The Bulova Jet Star is MASSIVELY underrated. If you’re looking for a great watch with a great second hand sweep, but aren’t looking to pay $5k plus for a Grand Seiko spring drive, look no further! And, Bulova just released a 100 piece only limited edition Bulova Jet Star Complecto, absolutely stunning.

Teddy the Tissot 1938 is just beautiful. I'm so happy to have have bought it here with the assistance of sales rep Will. He said it would check my boxes and it most certainly does. Subtle salmon dial, lovely case, and the COSC accuracy, and NO DATE! It's simplicity and retro looks are compelling. Even the smaller crown give it more of a vintage vibe. Home run at that price!

I'll fight and die on this hill but that white dial Tudor looks like a TImex Q. That might be why it's not as popular as it could be. Drop thousands on a watch that looks like a $150.- Timex from ten feet away???

I think the "Problem" with the Tudor GMT is that is it too big and especially too thick. If they would make it in the case of the 58 I personally would buy it immediately. Same with the Harrods Edition. Tried it on last week and I can't wear it with my 17,5cm wrist.

I have 7.25-7.75” wrist and I do like the size quite a bit-it is on the upper end of what I’d wear on my wrist these days, and it could could stand to be a little thinner (I had the old ETA Black Bay and I do miss that watch’s thinner case and lower weight-as well as its lack of rivets in the bracelet), but overall, I’m happy with the size. Although, I’ve only worn mine on the bracelet and sometimes the weight does get to me.

    • @gssf.gr29
      @gssf.gr29 10 місяців тому

I agree. I am not a watch collector and I know comparatively little about watches in general, but I know they're a longstanding, traditional brand and for me they're missing a trick.
"Not knowing what their identity should be" sums it up perfectly. The most recognisable aspect of the brand is the logo, and if you know nothing about a brand you probably still recognise their logo. Even if you don't know what they do, it identifies a brand as an established company. For Bulova it's the tuning fork. But they don't use it! It doesn't even show on their website, and many of their watches don't include it either. Not only that but they don't even use the same font.
Compare that with Seiko for example, who even have a separate logo for their 5 series. Zenith have their star, even Vacheron - As a layman I probably wouldn't readily recognise or remember the name, not being 'into' watches - but their maltese cross logo instantly jumps out at you, identifies them and tells you you're looking at a premium product. Bulova need to do something like that with their fork, and stick to the same font. It probably wouldn't have mattered 50 years ago, but now with a new brand appearing seemingly every day it's crucial as they're getting lost in the mire. It's a shame because they make some excellent watches at very affordable prices.

The Longines Spirit Zulu Time GMT on S&G in 39 mm is just immaculate… I bought it 3 months ago and I wear it more than my Omega Speedmaster Pro… Although the Spirit Zulu Time may have got their time in the limelight, I think the S&G version which is absolutely gorgeous kinda slid under the radar…
As for the Bulova Quartz offering, I’d prefer to refrain and save up for a bit to get the Cartier Tank Solar Beat… just my opinion of course…

The BB58 is so perfect and a GMT version would be insanely good. A white dial (rather than opaline) with pepsi bezel is such a great combo....BUT to me, its all about the thickness. the BB58 is magical because of the slimness. What about the new Longines Master collection with small seconds? Absolutely stunning dial, very classical. There's hardly any marketing materials for the three versions of the watch...

Honestly the release of the Seiko SRPJ81 has been great for me, because I've been looking for ages for an equivalent of a Hamilton khaki field for smaller wrists. The size, 36mm is the maximum size I could wear for a watch (maybe a little too big for me), but still I bought it and I'm really happy with the purchase

I really like the Tissot because of it's looks and it's in my price range. The Bulova would be a close second. I agree Teddy, the Parmigiani is an interesting watch.
It's nice to see the Parmigiani family used their success in the cheese business to branch out into fine watch making.

I think part of the problem with the Seiko SRP, even given the love for the SNK (wearing mine as we speak), is seemingly availability. I had 0 clue the new srp line existed until I looked at the Seiko USA site specifically. They aren't on the Canada website

just received my Tudor GMT opaline face. Love it. Just is not as bulky as a lot of people believe. It is relative I know. Also took delivery of my black dial IWC ingenieur (it is just a perfectly proportioned watch). Expensive yes, but its exceptional on the wrist.

Dude you've absolutely been under a rock with Bulova... I'm not saying that watch isn't remarkable, but their movements have been severely underrated for a while now, because that's their bread and butter... You've been able to buy that sweep at $500 for years in really attractive packaging, but this is perhaps a better packaging than most I've seen before I'd have to concede.

I have just bought a Sinn T50 and it really is a fantastic watch and so well made. I have mine on a titanium bracelet and it is super light and comfortable. There are not many T50’s out there and I like it that they are under the radar. As you say , for those who know - they know! Pound for pound a brill watch 👍

The Swiss, German. and Japanese watch industries make some excellent product but the Seiko 5 range is no longer worth consideration. Their price to quality ratio is markedly worse than many watches being made in China/Hong Kong (albeit mostly clomages) for $100. The Tissot COSC is a gem. I love the Parmigiani Fleurier too, but the price!!

I ordered a Bulova Jet Star the other week after seeing it mentioned in a video on this channel. It arrived last week and it is awesome. Bulova is a brand I was curious about when I first started looking into watch collecting but the neatest stuff was always too big. The Jet Star both is more wearable but also stands out design-wise today. It's already one of the few watches I've worn that's gotten a comment from a non-watch person

Those Bulova are very cool. Zero issue with those watches, quartz or no quartz. In truth, that’s a more impressive quartz movement than any SW200 or equivalent powered watch for the same or more money. Nice design language.
The Longines Hydroconquest GMT, at first glance, I think they look fine, but the dial IMO is a mess. Three different Indice shapes, the hands look clunky. All it lacks is the kitchen sink.

Are we on the cusp of a quartz return to force? Makers keep pumping out those sweeping second hands and people are noticing. If you are able to pay quartz money for the same aesthetic an automatic provides while gaining accuracy, the market might just shift.
