At least in the part of the US I'm from, "buoy" is pronounced "boo-ee" for some reason.
Nice video! Your English skills are exceptionally good.
I love how you brought up Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation. I remember an episode where Doctor Pulaski pronounced his name wrong. What you said reminded me of that. :P
You said squirrel perfectly.
nps man :D I appreciate the effort~
great video tag , i like the word pecan because they are really yummy and your pronounciation was great, i liked seeing the German spelling for each word as well, very informative ^-^
and everyone who wants to be overly critical of the pronounciation of the words, settle down, MeisterLehnsherr went through the trouble of making this clip and posting it for everyone to enjoy and learn from, its not about pronouncing words correctly its about appreciating the differances ^-^
Hahaha random southern drawl outburst on Alabama. :P Your English accent is really good!
you have a good pronunciation, it was nice to hear! do you use English regularly?
Don't get me wrong, your accent is awesome :-D very nice!
A buoy where I'm from is a marker in water that indicates the area that's allotted to swim.
The Alabama thing had me laughing my ass off. What part of Germany are you from? As an American who is in love with all things German, and loves learning about German culture, you have made me a subscriber of your channel.
Am I allowed to do a tag video as a German aswell? c:
And btw: where do I get the words from?
Your accent is so thin! I can only hear the German accent in certain words but your pronunciations are fantastic!
It's weird, I can't really hear your accent too much.
Sehr gut! sehr gut!
When I was in Germany, I attended some meetings, and it was common at that time to address a crowd with "Meine Damen und Herren".
i like that i am trying to learn German and that was cool . Ich mag dass
well done, but just some notes:
ruin - die Ruine (in addition to your translations)
soda water - das Tafelwasser (carbonated tap water, 'Mineralwasser' must be from a natural source)
"the kind of spider ..." (harvestman / daddy longlags) - der Weberknecht
On the east coast of the US buoy-is pronounced boo-eye and is the flotation marker that marks lobster traps, each buoy has its own markings / colors /stripes etc so the fisherman can identify which trap is his/hers. Great video!!
As someone on the East coast I pronounce it as boo-ee.
i am also on the east coast of the US... AND also pronounce it boo-ee :)
I call those long legged spiders weberknecht (daddy long leg) :)
I'm Australian, and I started learning German this year. How do you guys know the right genders? (die/der/das or ein/eine) It's very confusing! Haha
Es regnet und die Sonne scheint...
Würde ich im Sommer einfach Sommerregen nennen ;)
haha even the computer pronounced buoy wrong! it's pronounced like "boo-ee" just so you know in case you ever go boating in America. :) I can totally see how it looks like
"boy" though. great accent by the way! you have a really nice accent when speaking english. distinguishable to tell you are foreign but really correct pronunciation so that there are no misunderstandings when you speak!
This is the first video I have seen where a native german speaker can pronounce the word "squirrel". This shows just how well you know the english language.
you're a very nice young man!
A comment on the spider-thingy... I think the question asked for "daddy long legs", what would be translated to "der Weberknecht"
you so remind me of a Hungarian exchange student at my school :) He has a Hungarian accent and it's kinda similar to the German accent. He speaks German too :D
Buoy is BOO-EE; it's a thing that floats in the water to guide boats.
I have a question. Being an old person, the Germans I know (or have known) are now also old. And, with one exception, they all put a "v" where a "w" should be and the other way around when they speak English--even after living in the United States for a long time. In your videos and an in other videos with young Germans, you and they don't do that. Though I suspect more exposure to American and British media at a young age may have something to do with it, could you tell me why that is?
By the way, I continue to be impressed with your English. It's amazing how close you come to speaking with a General American accent, which I hear everyday. The only German I've known who speaks English better than you do served in the United States Army and had (when I met him) lived in the United States for a good many years.
If you're interested:
The "b" word is www.bing.com/search?q=buoy+definition&qs=SS&sk=SS2AS1&pq=buoy+&sc=8-5&sp=4&cvid=c063ca3aad354a4cb04b3e993a10047e&FORM=QBRE.
It seems that if you want to know if someone is American, you should ask him or her to pronounce "pecan." Americans say it something like www.bing.com/search?q=pecan+definition&qs=AS&pq=pecan+definit&sc=6-13&sp=1&cvid=dfb8e1a3d407495193f91dea86a8fca7&FORM=QBLH. And I think that's the most common American pronunciation of "pecan." Mine may be slightly different. If the non-Americans I've seen were to pronounce "pecan" in Central Illinois without proper context, it would confuse the heck out of everyone. They'd all think you were talking about a small city: Pekin. :-)
Rain during sun shine is a "sun shower".
Ich hab viele gründe germanistik zu studieren. Der erste grund ist deutsch klingt sehr sexy XD deutsches aussprach klingt stark, streiten, hmmm wie eine sprache von des soldat. Obwohl die deutsche deutsch spricht, klingt es schon sexy. Wie eine saldatin(ich weiss nicht, ob das wort im wörterbuch steht) ich mag dein aussprach auch~ haha:)
It's a floating thing in the water that marks depth, and many other things as well that are too numerous to list. XD Usually they're achored to the bottom, but sometimes they just float about. :)
In USA, der Einkaufswagen is called a "shopping cart". Trolley is probably British.
I love how everyone screws up buoy...it is a stupid looking word, but it's almost as fun to listen to as a German saying squirrel :D
We call it a "sun-shower" when it rains at the same time as the sun is shining and toilet paper throwing is generally considered to be a form of vandilisim, unless you are a person who is young and rude and actually does ,then its "tradition", even then not alot of people approve of it, especally not the receiver of the "tradition" :s
sun-shower means "Sonnen-Dusche" in german... actually sounds pretty funny xD
LOL
i forgot how to save a file from my webcam
Did you learn english from america??
Ohhhhh I first read it as an "Akkzent Tag" meaning Accent Day. Not Accent tag you're it.
Yeah, according to the dictionary it’s “deita” for data. But it’s also “root” for route (don’t confuse it with the word “rout”). But in practice everyone seems to pronounce them the way they think they should be pronounced.
Wrapping houses/ teepeeing houses in America is a mean little joke! Hahaha :) you run out to someone's house very late at night when they are asleep and throw as much toilet paper as you can on the trees, house, bushes, etc.. so they wake up to a big mess and have to clean it up! Mean, but funny.
Okay, so I'm a native English speaker, and I'm from New Hampshire; which is a region in New England in the United States. Here, we say buoy as boo-ee, not boy. It's much easier to distinguish the two.
The metal things you buy groceries with is a "shopping cart" in the USA too :] Some states say other things. I am from California. Texas says "buggies".
You sound American. Do they teach the British dialect or American dialect of English in Germany?
I'm going to do a British Columbia, Canada version of this... It's like an American saying things with some British pronunciation.
Allright, gonna do a video tomorrow then, thank you! :D
Yeah, just recognized that. s-sorry^^'
sounds way cooler, also wader not wota ;)
you're thinking of bayou.
I'm German, but I don't have an accent ;_; can I still do it?
nice haircut!
Actually, we spell Aluminum that way too. It's not wrong, it's just different. Same as herb.
Loved it when u said Ooo Yea! I m from Alabama :D
Also Aluminium wird bei uns mit langem i gesprochen: "Alumieniejum" (ich glaub das trifft die Aussprache am ehesten) :-)
Did anyone come up with "sunshower?" That's what the Amis call it when it rains while the sun is shining. I've never heard a German equivalent, though.
I'm Mexican American, but I want a German accent. really badly.. I'm learning German as well!
Du hast ein Amerikanisch Akzent. Great job!
sind "figures" nicht die zahlen?
You have excellent pronunciation. In USA...I've heard buoy pronounced both as "boy" or "boo wee". Also, in USA, we mostly pronounce the word "salmon" with a silent L, like "sammon". You said the word "garage" correctly the first time you said it, like "Ga Raj" with a soft J. And here, we have 2 ways of saying "pecan" depending on where you are from. Some say it like "peee kan". Some say it like "pa kawn". :)
On the word "pecan", make the 2nd syllable draw out a little longer, like pee kaan or pa kaawn. Does that make sense? Hope so. Garages are more common in America I think.
Please do a normal conversation in English but with a German accent. Thank you.
it just sounds right, I think :D
Its so funny how you're split like 50/50 between U.K. pronunciations and American pronunciations! Interesting.
I think you quite didn’t get the point. The Accent Tag is about what people call different things in English rather than interpreting them into one’s native language. So, for example, for the question “ what do you call gym shoes” you should’ve answered something like “tennis shoes” or “trainers”:)
I love the word "Eichhörnchen" because Germans can say to English speakers, "I may not be able to pronounce.... skvirel... but can you pronounce this?" Muahahaha >:)
This is how you pronounce "buoy" - "boo-ie"
I hope this helps.
in Russian we do have a special term for the situation when it's raining and the sun is shining. it's called грибной дождь - a mushroom rain xD people believe that after such a rain mushrooms grow faster)
The Toilet-Paper-Throwing thing is TP-ing someone's house and it is definitely a VERY rude thing to do, so yeah. Depending on where you're from it happens or doesn't happen!
A bubbly carbonated drink is like soda or coke))
"buu-ii" not, boy :D Grüße aus Rheinland-Pfalz
you have an german accent while speaking
crayon heißt wachsstift oder buntstift :) chalk ist kreide
Squirrel. I was thoroughly dissapointed when you said it correctly. I was hoping for "shhhvvuuurl" :(
Good old PA Deutsch!
even so, what is the actual word? buoy?
A lot of people pronounce buoy like boo-e (like chewy)
Many people find it strange but I actually really like German accents and I wish I had one
I know what a buoy is D: I just wanted to know if that was what he said.
Great idea! Buoy is not pronounced in a logical way... it is boo ee. Keep the great videos coming!
I have 6 pixels camera. But I try to make a video my Russian accent. so do video! we waiting!
Like für die beschreibung "they make you look geil''
Are we supposed to make a video of ourselves pronouncing German words and send it to you?
I think lieutnant translates to Gefreiter, I am not sure though
Please let me hear you have a normal conversation in English but with a German accent. Thank you.
When I hear you stress leisure and other words, it sounds like a proto-Texan twang, not that surprisingly, since, as you've probably heard a thousand times by now, many Americans are German.
I was raised in WI and I say Boo-ee too
I'm English and I use "sk" for schedule :p
Also, Salmon is pronounced "sam-mon."
I'm german and my english accent is the same like he's
it's pronounce BOO-ee :P
It is in American English but it's "boy" in British and Irish English. I don't know how Canadians, South Africans, or our Antipodean cousins say it.
did you learn our Russian? : There 6 plagues, three kinds ....=)))
yay u can say squirrel nt many germans can say it lol
OH! XD Yeah, he was saying buoy, just saying it as boy. I thought you meant what it means. XD Sorry.
=))
You don't want come to here (Brasil) teaching a classes in UNESP? :) You're Willkommen
sorry guys you need to learn "der/die/das" by heart, there is no other choice ;)
Regenbogen?? nien???
hi
British people do pronounce it 'boy'.
I pronounce buoy boo-ee...I am the only one?
the word buoy is pronounced bu...ee.
