We say both chillen and chillaxen here in the U.S. It became popular here about 20 years ago. People say call you and say "What's up?" And you respond "Nothing much Just chillin'."
As always, amusing and educational!
Thank you :)
in spanish, chavo is a slang for boy (and is pronounced the same as chabo)
That makes me feel much better hearing it come from a German citizen :) ! Germany looks like such a wonderful place! I shouldn't let anything come between us! Thank you! und keep posting these amazing videos!!
you are so funny and I like this video!
I am from srilanka its been six months in germany,u helped me a lot ,Thaks dude
Ignore all these negative comments, you were just expressing yourself. Good luck with your language study by the way.
British here, I've heard it used ironically as sort of a throw-back to the 80s, but I have heard it and people will understand you.
cool :) !
wow! i am amazed that German and Spanish share some words ^-^ thank you for answering my question as i was so curious :)
Man, du hast ein bärenstarkes Zimmer! *-*
thankyou very much for understanding that! i appreciate that comment! :D have a wonderful day! :D
no problem :D
I think 'einen Clown frühstücken' is my new favourite thing.
cool!! my german teacher was from Thuringia.
In English, we have two slang words like "Chillen und Chillaxen." They are "Chilling and "Chillaxing" (mean the same thing as the German equivalents).
I'm black too and love learning German. I would love to go to Germany. I wouldn''t be scared. I know my uncle was deployed in Germany, although I have no clue if he liked it or not. I never asked.
Chillaxen sounds like chillaxing lol
"checken" and "cool" are used a lot in southern germany where I am from
Oh yay! :D My cousin was stationed there, I should probably ask her how she liked it!
same way up in nothern germany ;)
Hey du Meister! Deine Videos sind total cool! I don't know, I think "Chabo" comes from "el chavo del 8", it is a very popular (and very old) tv show from Mexico. Chavo in Mexico only means kid. I think the word suffered a resemantization, like "gamin", which in French means kid but in Spanish means homeless person.
Great videos. I'll share them with my students.
hey! Sehr gute Videos, dankeschön! Mach sie bitte auf Russisch-Deutsch ;D
We actually have "chillax" here in England too!
Haha, we use the word chillax all the time, at least where I live in England we do. :)
Oh wow. I thought I was the only person who worried about that. I'm currently learning German, and I really like it :)
I'm native and I have never heard of the "cellulite center", also "chillaxen" is new for me.
Chabo seems like Chav in English slang, but it'snot really the same thing :) And I hope you know chillen and chillaxen are the same in english :P
Chavo is a Mexican slang word that's used in the US a lot- it sort of means "kid" or "dude." Possibly related?
im teaching my self. im in high school (junior) and all the school has is spanish and french. i want to be diffrent and learn something new.
Ich würd mal als Slangwort Charivari vorschlagen ^^
ist die Schmuckkette an der bayrischen Tracht
well, I think there are big differences between the different region of germany, especially between the south and the north.
for a lack of an better expression I would describe them as tiny little inside-jokes in your everyday language. :)
wow! this video i can relate to ^-^ in spanish we use a similar word "chavo" and it means basically the same thing:) is it true that there is the "gratis" and "maiz" as well in Greman language? Gratis meaning free and maiz means corn in spanish ^-^
love the videos btw, keep them coming :)
I love your videos!! I would like to move to Germany one day, but I'm scared because I'm black. people tell me not to go! :/ but I still want to learn the language :) thank you for posting! your videos are helpful!
Like he said :) Not every German knows all the words. I knew all the words from German slang and I come from Saxony.
we used to say Chillax in Florida, kinda faded out I think though
Yea im a Freshman at my High school and all my School offers is Spanish,French, and Latin which is gay. So I learn German on my own from dw.de (Deutschewelle), and my mom helps me aswell.
In American English that is. I'm not sure if British English has these two words (Chilling/Chillaxing).
Ey! Chill mal altaaa! XD
Its a good thing I have dual citizenship ^^. My German is pretty good but not Fluent yet. I wanna move to Germany :D
Lol all the German slang words that are the same in english
I´m german and I have to say that instead of being scared you can be excited.
An interesting fact which would oppose pretty much all the people´s thoughts about germany which tell you not to go is that I actually find asian and black people the most coolest on the planet =)
I´m satisfied with how it is but still wouldn´t mind to do the reverse Michael Jackson :)
Anyways if you are coming to germany you are welcome !
Don't worry what your parents say :) and you can still get a German visa, I want away from america aswell but where are you learning your German at?
in USA they have that slang chill out . NY city
hahah i didint get the clown breakfast at first.,. ahh im a slow learner xD
Chabo reminds me of an English chav hahaha
Yea my moms from Berlin and my dad is from America. So since my moms German and dad american I get German Citizenship and American citizenship which is Dual-Citizenship at birth :P
lol clown frühstücken, meine lieblings!
Maybe 30 years ago, or in some small villages in East Germany, but as far as I have seen, it's not bad to be Black here. I know a few guys who have lived here for 30 years, 1 from Mozambique (and he lived in the DDR) and 2 from Ghana (and a fair amount of Ghanaians live in Hamburg).
Do the people who tell you not to go have much experience with Germany?
awesome!!! :D dual citizenship?
lol, wo genau kommst aus Niedersachsen her?
3:07 Seriously.. This face will hunt me in my nightmares ;_;
I am black and I am German! ;) That doesn't matter bro!
viele slangwörter sind eben aus dem Englischen.
Wo in Deutschland kommen Sie?
Liebe Niedersachsen.. Braunschweig ist super
i would like to become a citizen of Germany. america sucks. they say land of the free, but i dont know where the freedom is. this government is horrible. i already started learning Deustche, but i am not fluent in it. im getting better but i need help
Sry aba... Chabo is wirklich kein Boss:D
Well... Babo is the boss and Chabos are his... idk but "Chabo" is definitely not the Boss ...
Why should you be scared ? Is the color of someones skin important? :o I dont think so :) We are pretty colorful here.
voll die scheiße
In german gratis means "free" too. But we write "Mais", not "Maiz", but its the same thing :D
