Das sind alle sehr gute Punkte zu beachten, nicht nur für amerikanische Touristen in Deutschland. Gleichfalls sollten deutsche Touristen daran denken, man soll sich nicht erlauben, andere Gäste in einem amerikanischen Restaurant zu photographieren. Denn Restaurants sind privat und haben auch ihre eigene Hausregeln, damit sich alle Kunden wohl fühlen.
Bei uns wird es auch als unhöflich empfunden, wenn sich deutsche Touristen über das Essen im Ausland meckern, und das einheimische Essen mit deutscher Küche vergleichen. In jedem Land gibt's sehr gute sowohl wie auch schlechte Restaurants. Ich freue mich auf den dritten Teil dieses Themas!

For me the funniest thing was when I wanted to catch a bus in Germany for the first time. In Brazil we have to "signal" the bus for it to stop (otherwise it will just drive away), and the gesture kind of looks like you are doing a nazi salute :O (a gesture that absolutely doesn't have that connotation here). When I tried to signal the bus my friend almost had a heart attack. lol

Great. Germany seems like the country I was born to live in. I'm a very anxious person and therefore I'm always trying not to bother anyone and be quick, silent and prepared for any situation.

Point 2 is very important, especially at discounters like Lidl or Aldi, where I’ve found that the cashiers have honed their skill of dragging monumental amounts of goods across the register with what appears to be close to light speed.
It pays off to think about the order of the items when they’re on the conveyor beforehand. If you put hard and heavy objects on first and then the lighter ones, you don’t have to sort later during the ensuing time trial.
If you have a shopping cart with you, it’s often easier to just put it back in (more or less orderly) and then step aside after paying to store your items. Most shops will have a little area for that, or at the very least extended windowsills to put things on.
Reading this is like reading a doctors theory on curing any disease and yet you just wrote about a supermarket trip 😂 Germany is world for itself. We are all mad here 🎩
How do you do it in other countries? I noticed that the queue is getting longer and longer at our supermarket if someone is working in a lower speed as usual and the people in the queue are blocking aisles with products.
In die Uk everybody does what they want, cross the street where you like and do whatever the hell you want in a supermarket. There are no rules for anything the more random

@@MD-cu6wq Well it’s not a rule, you can shop disorderly if you like, you just have to bear the consequences (longer wait times, horrible order in your bag, smashed groceries and angry customers)
And if you put the vegetables and fruits, that has to be weight by the cashier, at the end of the line, u have a little more time to put everything in the shopping cart. 🦊
You're only a proper german if you're faster then the cashier. I even developed own techniques and learned some from my parents

@@stefaniafollini2165 1. Cans and other tough products on the conveyor belt first, so the light products dont get squished when putting in your bag. That makes you faster
2. If you buy fresh pastries or buns (the ones you choose yourself and put in a paper bag), put them on the conveyor belt last, because the cashier then has to check what products you chose and enter them individually. This buys you time to put away the other items :D

@@stefaniafollini2165 I don't do any of that complicated math. At the cachier I put my stuff back to the carriage, then pay the check and go with the carriage to the special packing tables, where I can pack my stuff as slow as I want. There are also trash bins where you can throw away some of the packaging, then you have less trash to take out at home.

Ich glaube, es ist schon gut, dass die Kassierer/in schneller sind, das großte Problem aber ist das man wenig Platz zum Einpacken hat.
Du brauchst einen Plan 😂 Z. B. lege ich die schweren Sachen zuerst auf das Band, damit diese am Ende unten im Rucksack/Tasche liegen. Am besten vorher schon Geld zurechtlegen, damit man nicht erst suchen muss. Man muss auch den perfekten Zeitpunkt fürs bezahlen finden. Wenn ich Z.B. mit Karte zahle, dann packe ich nicht erst alles ein, sondern mache das in dem Zeitraum, wo die Kartedaten an die Bank übertragen werden. Die Zeit reicht meistens um den Rest einzupacken. Damit kann man einiges optimieren 😂
Immer auch drann denken den Abstandhalter/Trenner zum nächsten Kunden aufs Band zu legen, sonst kann es peinlich werden, wenn der Kassierer den Schlüssel anfordern muss, um eine Stornierung durchzuführen.
In einigen Supermärkten muss man sogar noch das Gemüse/Obst teilweise selber abwiegen. Achtung, nicht vergessen, wird sonst auch peinlich.
Aldi in den Vereinigten Staaten haben einen anderen Tresen weg vom Kassier, wo man Lebensmittel einpacken kann. Bevor ist es einfach in Einkaufswagen gestellt worden.

There's an easy solution to the supermarket "problem". Just take a cart with you. (German) Supermarket registers are designed so the cart can get put up against the end of the register (so the cashier can look inside if you have forgotten to put something on the belt) and also for you to be able to just quickly throw everything back in.
After you leave the register there's usually a space behind the register or at the windows with a wide windowsill where you can tetris your purchase into bags.
Why is everyone making this out to be so difficult?

@@Olivier-GM That's why I always take a shopping cart when shopping in Germany (even though sometimes I buy only 1 or 2 items). Put the shopping cart next to the checkout, throw everything in the cart right after the cashier slides them through the barcode reader, pay, and then move to a corner and put things in my backpack.
I swear going to Aldi gives me more anxiety than going to job interviews.
Another funny thing though, is whenever a new checkout lane is opened, everyone and their dogs rushes over as if they're competing against Usain Bolt for the 100m Olympic gold medal. Same thing with buses and trains on arrival.

Das wichtigste beim Kassentetris: Die Reihenfolge der Steine schon vorher auf dem Band festlegen.
haha..damit hat meine Uroma mich früher immer ein bisschen genervt ( sry OMA =)) ) es geht darum die schweren und stabilen Sachen wie Konservendosen , Milchkartons etc zuerst aufs BAnd > dann werden sie nach dem Kassieren als erstes eingepackt damit leichtere und evtl instabile Verpackungen Joghurt,Quark inkl Obst, Gemüse nicht von schwereren in der Einkaufstüte zerdrückt werden ...macht absolut Sinn....hat sich eingeprägt bis heute , ich vermittel es mittlerweile an meine eigenen Kinder weiter.. =)) >> DANKE OMA

Actually, when I was in Berlin, people also crossed the street with a red traffic light. They never did by themselves, I always did it first, but then the whole crowd followed me every time 😂 I felt like a prophet, it was really nice.

Well that's true sometimes you just have to cross red lights when you don't want to miss your train or when you simply don't want to get stuck.😅
Yeah but you should know that crossing a red light in Germany even as pedestrian can lead to prosecution resulting in a fine or in very rare cases to loss of your drivers license.
Most Germans don't even realize that.
That said, you can technically cross the street everywhere so you don't have to "use" the lights but that is hardly worth a discussion with an officer if lights are close by.

Thank you for reminder of these cultural differences. My biggest tip could be life saving do not walk on bike path the bikes are fast moving and if they do have to stop the rider will tell you off in no uncertain terms, I was honestly more fearful of accidentally walking in a bike path than I ever was of cars as a pedestrian in Germany. Mind your space, pedestrian, lol. As a Berlin serial cyclist, it's wild to me how one could ever overlook the red strip on the sidewalk. But then again, many places don't even have biking lanes and even here they can't be found on any street

@@mso68 eher wegen Erregung öffentlichen Ärgernisses, das pinkeln im Park selber ist nicht das Problem, dass die Leute dafür die Hose runter lassen müssen schon. Der Preis fürs pinkeln kann anders sein, wenn man zB statt im Park an ne Häuserwand pinkelt, dann ist es Erregung öffentlichen Ärgernisses und Sachbeschädigung.

I really appreciate to teach me what to be careful about in daily life in Germany. Initially, I thought it might be inconvenient that all shops and restaurants, except for tourist spots, are closed on Sundays. However, after experiencing it firsthand, I realized that on Sundays, I am actually relieved of shopping stress and can spend quality time with my family. The rule of "Ruhezeit" is also clear, and as someone who dislikes noise, it makes living here comfortable. Vielen Dank！
Another thing I've learned is that you shouldn't celebrate something before the actual date. Can't even say "happy birthday" a day or two before the real birthday!

The trick in the supermarket is to put the heavy stuff at first over the band so you organise everything before putting it into the bags. Then it's only dropping in, and that's it. Usually the heavy stuff are vegetables, so they have to weight it first and it gives you more time to prepare the bags 🤣

I remember when the cashier took paper bag, checked it, then pushed away and it FLEW ACROSS to the wall in the end of a market and I was just standing there in shock. Luckly I had the cart so I put everything there before going to pick my bag. I know it was an accident, but THAT'S A SERVICE FOR SURE!

Füllen Sie den Einkaufswagen wieder auf und verlassen Sie die Kasse nach dem Bezahlen. Suchen Sie dann einen geeigneten Ort, der nicht im Weg ist, und nehmen Sie sich so viel Zeit, wie Sie zum Packen Ihrer Tute benötigen.
Einige Geschäfte haben sogar einen schönen Packbereich, in den Sie gehen können.
Genauso erledige ich schon seit Jahren meine Wocheneinkäufe 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 das Einkaufen hier in DE empfinde ich trotzdem als sehr stressig.
D'uh! Machen das nicht alle? :D naja, ich bin eine dieser die immer ungeduldig sind, deswegen versuche ich auch die anderen nicht zu irritieren. :D
Sie haben auch vergessen zu erwähnen, das auch Kassierinnen und Kassierer sehr ungeduldig werden könnten. Ist zwar nicht Gang und Gebe, passiert aber doch immer mal. ^^
leider gibt es solche tische nicht bei edeka oder rewe sondern nur bei aldi oder lidl. da schmeiss ich auch alles in den wagen zurück und packe dann ein. bei edeka oder rewe muss man gezielt ware aufs band legen, damit man beim einpacken in den korb nicht erdbeeren unten hat und 5 wasserflaschen drüber.
Vor Aldi und Co gab es nach der Kasse immer viel Platz wo der Einkauf landete. Da hatte man dann nach dem Zahlen genügend Zeit einzuräumen, Es gab auch eine mechanische Trennung zum nächsten Kunden. Aldi oder Lidl kam dann auf die Idee den Platz zu sparen, man ging davon aus, dass jeder Kunde einen EInkaufswagen hat, in den die Sachen dann eingeladen werden. Das mag ja beim Wocheneinkauf auch so sein, aber hier in der Stadt wo jeder nur für den nächsten Tag kauft nimmt so gut wie keiner einen Einkaufswagen und dann wird es eben stressig, weil die Kassen dafür nicht vorbereitet sind.
Ein Tipp beim Einkaufen: immer das Obst und Gemüse am Ende auf das Band legen. Das wird nämlich (in den meisten Läden) an der Kasse gewogen und benötigt deshalb auch etwas mehr Zeit als die anderen Lebensmittel. So hat man „Zeit“ in der man beim Einladen in den Einkaufswagen aufholen kann😂

Hier in der Schweiz müssen wir das immer vorher selber wiegen.
Noch eine wichtige Sache ist in Deutschland, dass man bei fremden Leuten meistens siezen muss. Ich als eine Türkin habe es sehr oft erlebt, dass wenn man an geduzt wird, als Respektlosigkeit rüberkommt und dass die Person das sehr ernst nimmt und einen sogar ermahnt. Tolles Video 👍
Das überrascht mich jetzt allerdings! In der Türkei siezen sich doch sogar junge Leute auf der Straße oder sogar beim Kennenlernen im Freundeskreis erstmal für eine Weile...

Die "Don't do in Germany" Videos sind herrlich Ich liebe es, über mein Geburtsland zu lachen, das vertreibt den deutschen "Ernst". Das mit der roten Ampel habe ich mir ganz schnell in Amsterdam abgewöhnt und für mich hier in Deutschland eingeführt ☺ Wobei ich immer darauf achte, dass weder Kinder noch die Polizei in den Nähe sind 😅

Woher hast du das erste Emoji? (Übrigens nicht deutsch)
kleiner tipp fürs einkaufen: die schweren und unzerbrechlichen sachen vorne aufs band legen und die empfindlichen nach hinten. Dann kann man einfach alles schnell in den rucksack packen ;)
Noch ein Tipp zum Einkaufen: die bereitgestellten Einkaufswägen verwenden! Die sind nämlich dafür da, dass man an der Kasse alles schnell reinladen kann. Das Umpacken in Taschen macht man dann, wenn man bezahlt hat in einem Bereich des Ladens oder draussen, wo man niemanden im Wege herumsteht. Das ist aber auch in anderen Ländern so. In den UK habe ich bereits erlebt, dass Kassiererinnen die Alarmtaste drücken, wenn jemand nicht schnell genug einpackt und bezahlt. Dann kommt das Security-Team und räumt schnell das Kassenband leer. Bezahlen kann man dann nach einer Taschendurchsuchung im Nebenraum. Beim nächsten mal nehmen die Leute einen Einkaufswagen, zahlen mit Karte oder machen sich mit der Währung vertraut.
Und Obst und Gemüse ganz hinten aufs Band. Das braucht länger bis es eingescannt ist und somit hat Mensch zum Schluss mehr Zeit zum einpacken.

Das mit dem "in die Augen schauen" kommt übrigens daher, dass man ganz früher (vermutlich von den Römern) immer darauf geachtet hat, dass beim Anstoßen etwas vom eigenen Glas in das Glas des Gegenübers kam. So konnte sichergestellt werden, dass man nicht vergiftet wird, weil alle miteinander anstoßen und sich so gegenseitig jeweils ein bisschen vom Getränk austauschen. Also bei dieser Tradition hat man NICHT in die Augen geschaut, sondern auf das Glas. Das "in die Augen schauen" baut jetzt darauf auf, nämlich dass sich in einem engen Kreis, also Familie und Freunde, alle blind vertrauen und nicht darauf achten müssen, dass beim Anstoßen etwas von jedem Glas dabei ist. Das "in die Augen schauen" ist also ein sehr altes Symbol für Vertrauen, das in der Moderne neu interpretiert wurde :)
Zu dem "leise sein in der Öffentlichkeit" gibt es die Theorie, dass besonders auf Festen, der Tisch mit dem Anführer des Clans/der Gruppe, der lauteste war. Lauter zu sein als der Anführer Tisch wurde als eine Art Herausforderung angesehen und endete oft in mehr oder weniger tödlichen Auseinandersetzungen.
Ja, die erste Erklärung ist bekannt. Genauso wie das Händeschütteln hat das eine alte Tradition, die ich ungern breche. Leider wurde sie gebrochen durch Corona und scheint sich zu verabschieden.
Die zweite kannte ich nicht. Ich weiß nicht, ob es da seinen Ursprung hat.

Ich halte das einfach für höflich. Während in anderen Ländern eine richtige Kultur um Reden beim Anstoßen herrscht heißt es hier trocken "Auf dich!" "Prost", o.ä. Da ist es dann zumindest schön das gefeierte Zusammensein mit einem Blick in die Augen zu unterstreichen.

My experience on the "no free tap water" issue has been that I usually get it if I ask nicely; probably 9/10 times. It's worth it to ask, especially if you're already ordering another drink anyway. My feeling is that as a non-German visitor in Germany you should act as you see fit while maintaining a respectful and positive attitude. If a German calls you out on your actions that's ok, and really their problem. Just keep smiling and don't let it bother you. Cultural interaction is a two-way street.
Plus in bigger cities they offer free refill for the travel-bottles. Especially in the summer.
It's similar in Poland although we are adapting to UK way of things, where tap water is free. Such an important issue for me personally :P
Germany is unfortunately known for shitty customer service, you are the customer and pay money for a service, that should be honored, but it is not. Some businesses treat you like a piece of sh***, they are totally clueless that you do much better business by being friendly and courteous with customers and treat them nice. I grew up in Germany, but all that I learned there about good business I had to forget when I moved to the USA, the country touches you much better how to be good at business because with a free market, rude companies and owners immediately die because nobody buys anything anymore at these nasty people. In Germany, the market is not really free and is overlain with seemingly millions of laws that limit competition and define what is fair and what is not. That protects some businesses that are really horrible in treating their customers, like Taxi drivers that got protected from competition by Uber by just declaring Uber illegal.

@@APCLZ Hahahaha, that would be an easy world where you could deflect any justified critical comments with that line. Free water not available is not a custum, but just bad service. You get free water everywhere on the world, it is the base gesture of all hospitality, it is ancient.

In Garmisch, we were told we couldn't use the clothesline on Sunday. On Holy Saturday the small food store was only open until noon, and the line was long. A woman with a full cart "struggled" to pass through the line so she stopped to chat with the strangers around her and slowly turned her cart into line. Oh the kerfuffle THAT set off! She was shouted at by everyone! Memorable.
I dated a German and he definitely changed my life forever, I was born in Mexico, raised in Canada and now live in the US. I have met a variety of people through out my life, but the German has been by far my favorite 🥰 so much so that I've become fascinated watching all these videos learning about your culture. The trick for me in the supermarket: use a shopping cart/ trolley even if you don't have a lot of groceries. Put the stuff from the band into the trolley again which is way faster than filling bags/backpacks. Then move from the cashier to a side and pack your groceries at your own pace (many supermarkets have dedicated packing areas). And of course prepare your wallet in advance (maybe in your coat or trouser's pocket - if you have them) I even take the card out in advance. Keep the talking with the Cashier to the bare minimum.

I would agree to "keep talking to bare minimum" since small talk is not part of our German culture. Having a random conversation with a stranger is in most of cases just making the other one feeling uncomfortable. But there are exceptions, like myself, I do not mind doing that and I am actually starting it, if I see an opportunity for it. It always depends on the situation and if I think the other person would like a short conversation. For some people I can tell right away, that they do not want to talk to me in any way.

Im from Greece and one time in Munich my fam and I were traveling to the zoo, and I made the mistake to throw an empty plastic bottle off a bridge , suddently a teacher from a school field trip passing by grabed me by my arm and yelled at me for littering. After that I took a real look around and saw how clean and nice everything is and compared it to Athens , where you can find big sums of garbage thrown away everywhere ,even downtown. I took a valuable lesson there and started realising how important community spirit is for a nation's prosperity.

Zum Supermarkt hätte ich einen supertipp. Gerade während Corona aber auch sonst. Benutzt doch einfach einen Einkaufswagen. Da kann man an der Kasse alles rein tun und dann nach der Kasse in Ruhe einpacken
Ja, die Idioten ohne Wagen (oft Hipster) haben das Prinzip nicht verstanden.
Genau, einfach chillig einen Wagen nehmen, dann noch eine klappbare Einkaufskiste mitbringen, diese nach dem Aufs-Band-legen der Einkäufe in den Einkaufswagen stellen, und man kann die Einkäufe direkt vom Kassenband in die Kiste räumen und muss sie damit nicht doppelt erst in den Einkaufswagen, und später dann nochmal umräumen. Hilfreich ist dabei auch, schon beim Auflegen aufs Kassenband die Sachen so zu sortieren, dass man die zerquetschbaren Lebensmittel wie Bananen, Eier oder Sahnebecher ganz nach hinten legt, damit sie dann später in der Kiste oben liegen.
Und das Einräumen selbst macht dann irgendwie richtig Spaß, das ist dann so etwas wie ein 3D-Tetris-Spiel... :-)
Früher ging es im Kassenbereich wesentlich entspannter ohne Druck und Stress zu,denn der Kassenbereich war noch anders konzipiert : großflächiger, mit großer Ablage und eine Kassiererin die der Warteschlange körperzugewandt saß.
Da aber in Deutschland seit mehreren Jahren Zeit Geld ist und es immer irgendwie Druck geben muss, gibt es extra Konstrukteure für Supermarkt-Kassenbereiche und die auch für deren Optimierung zuständig sind. Alles kein Zufall: enger Gang mit dem Einkaufswagen im Kassenbereich, die Kassiererin sitzt körperzugewandt parallel zum Band, die Ablage"fläche" hinter dem Band ist nur noch auf das minimalste flächenmäßig beschränkt, der Einkaufswagen soll in einem bestimmten Winkel hinter dem Kassenband positioniert werden, spezielle Waren-Führ-schienen ermöglichen der Kassiererin schnelles einscannen. Ziel: möglichst viele Kunden in kürzester Zeit abfertigen, daher keine trödelnden Kunden beim Abfertigungsvorgang erwünscht oder Kunden die ihre Ware nochmal ansehen. Das gelingt indem man dem Kunden unterschwellig psychologisch Druck und Stress macht. Die Enge, wartende Kunden dahinter, eine Kassiererin die 5x so schnell die Ware über den Scanner jagt und dann noch kaum Ablagefläche. bitte nicht im Portemonnaie nach Münzen suchen, denn das dauert zu lange. Und die Kunden dahinter in Warteschlange schnauben genervt. Am liebsten würde so manch Kassiererin die gescannte Ware gnadenlos direkt in den Wagen werfen, weil ihr der Kunde mit dem wegräumen zu langsam ist.
So hat man den Kunden in Deutschland bewusst "trainiert".
Hat geklappt würde ich sagen.
Es bleibt gerade noch Zeit zum nebenbei Guten Tag und Auf Wiedersehen sagen.
Traurig aber wahr. Schön ist das nicht.

Nee Du, mindestens die Dose(n), die nicht parallel zur Kassenbandrichtung liegt/liegen (also deren längere Seite der Lage einer Geraden entspricht), die versetzt man keinesfalls in eine Drehbewegung. Die liegen vollkommen korrekt!
Hingegen die Dosen, die einen 90°-Winkel dazu bilden und aufgrund der vorwärtsgerichteten Kassenbandrichtungsänderung in eine Drehbewegung geraten (könnten!), sollten um 90° durch eine extern einwirkende Kraft gedreht werden.
Damit diese nicht mehr orthogonal zu den g-Geraden-Dosen liegen.
...und ncht, weil es Dich stimuliert, sondern damit die Dose korrekt liegt und aufgrund der Kassenbandrichtungsänderung NICHT in eine Drehbewegung gerät.

Stattdessen scheint das beschriebene normwidrige Verhalten zu einer Trennung der Gemeinschaft vom Nicht-Verursacher derjenigen extern einwirkenden Kraft zu führen, welche bei ihrem Vorhandensein zu der gewünschten 90°-Drehung geführt hätte.

Ich schaue gleich, ob die korrekte Lage von Einkaufsgut auf dem Kassenband in einer Norm festgehalten wurde. Mindestens gehört diese Anweisung aber in eine Verordnung.
Sodass das Darniederlegen von drehbarem Einkaufsgut zu einem privatem Verwaltungsakt erklärt werden und dagegen in der eheähnlichen Gemeinschaft Widerspruch eingelegt werden kann.
Nachdem das Formular dazu beantragt und genehmigt wurde.
Bitte die Ausfüllhinweise beachten.
Denn - um Goethe zu zitieren:
Wo nicht immer von oben die Ordnung und Reinlichkeit wirket, da gewöhnet sich leicht der Bürger zu schmutzigem Saumsal, wie der Bettler sich auch an lumpige Kleider gewöhnet.

'Don't talk to loud' also applies to using public transport. Same when you listen to loud music in tram, bus or subway, as it is considered to be rude, disturbing and reckless. Be prepared to get an angry or annoyed look by other people.

I agree, but most Germans are afraid to interfere, they lack the courage. Thus, they keep on staring, and even look away when the disturbing guy feels annoyed.by the "evil eyes".
Most things you mention are pretty universal in a lot of countries, like Belgium. I don't know about the Netherlands. In Belgium it is not done to make noise on a sunday, like wash your car or use a lawnmower. When using a toilet you have to pay as well, unless you visit a pub and you order something. You also don't get free water in a restaurant, unlike in France. On the other hand, if you walk through a red light, nobody will comment in Belgium.
When I was in Germany I remember there were free public toilets. Maybe that differs from city to city. Also, there was a strange situation on a bus: I was sitting on a folding seat, an elderly woman went in and seeing me sitting started speaking to me. I do not understand German much, so I stood up to free the seat, but the lady kept on "telling me off", or whatever. No idea what I did wrong, this is still a mystery to me.
not german but same thing in my country wrt elderly people being pissed off at anyone under 40 existing on public transport (and in general lol). lost count of the times i saw someone get yelled at or was myself yelled at to give up my seat for an elderly person when there were several free seats only a step away. i truly dont get it.

I'm Belgian, working for an international company. In the Belgian office, if you open the kitchen cupboard, mugs of different sizes and colors will almost fall out of it, being stacked in arbitrary fashion. Then I went to visit the German office and found the cupboard filled with only company branded mugs, arranged in perfect order (one up, one down). That had me crack up.
Another difference is that I had expected the German work ethic to have them work late hours, only to find myself alone in the office at 5 PM (and being the last one in if I'd be a few minutes past 9 AM). They don't waste time chit-chatting through the day though, making everything of every minute.

I don't know about other working places, but for me "being on time at work" means, that I come a bit earlier to put my bag in my locker etc. , so I can start work exactly on time.
But it also means: I go on time. 😀
It also means, that I work during working hours ... that is what I am payed for. 😀
The Cups....that really sounds as if you opened the cupboard for guests. I guess in most german offices and other working places, the stuff cupboards look exactly like the ones in Belgium. Very often people bring their own cups and are very fussy about that and don't want other people to use it.
Depends. Most of us work 39 hours a week. Well I guess. Hope I'm not the only idiot wasting 23,21 percent of his life at work. ^^
It's true regarding work hours. We get in early on time, but we also leave sharp after 8 hours of work. We are very serious about work-life-balance. Sometimes, if the work load allows, we will have chit chat, too. But again, if you have a lot of things to do, you better get on it now. People will give you looks or comments if they see you in the kitchen half day.

Beim einpacken der Einkäufe: Bei Aldi z.B. sind das die Kassen wie im Video gezeigt, bei z.B. Rewe oder Coop gibt es lange Rollbänder und bei ersterem auch zwei Spuren, was nicht nur chilliger, sondern auch für Supermarktkassen effizienter.

unfortunately, me being luxembourgish, we do this too. I embarassed my german fellows a lot I guess, they often asked me to pipe down a little. I had no idea. But when I was on a Business trip once in Basel, years later, there was a luxembourgish couple in the same hotel than me. I knew the fist morning. Because the were impossible to be overheard at the breakfast 😅. Not so many of us around in the world, but you still will hear us out easily. If you recognise the language. Anyway, that precise moment I really had to think back to my fellow student friends. I guess the stereotype of the loud luxembourgush people could very well be true.
You don’t really have that stereotype here in Germany. It’s actually Americans that are always obnoxiously loud.
Great video!, I once said 'ja ja' in response to a story from a colleague and received a lesson that saying 'ja ja' a certain way might mean you dont really care about what the other person is saying.

I was visiting Germany to see family friends and it was our last day. We walked with their daughter to the school bus stop so we could wave bye before leaving and this is when things got strange. She put her bag on the pavement behind one of two perfect lines of school bags and then went to play with friends. When the bus turned around the corner they all ran to the spot they had put their bag, quietened down and waited. The bus stopped with its two doors perfectly lining up with the kids and they all walked on in an orderly manner.

When I left primary school in the late 70s and had to use the school bus to go to secondary school, we did the same.

You'll always be able to find a public toilet where you don't have to pay or where paying is optional. It's not like you have to pay everywhere. The upside is that these toilets are usually very clean compared to what I've seen in other countries where you don't have to pay.

We’re spoilt in Australia. The checkout person packs your groceries immediately after scanning the price. Except for ALDI. Unfortunately, customer service isn’t a German strength but people love the special buys. Self checkout and home delivery is where food shopping is heading.

Here in America (at least where I come from) you can take your time at the checkout. No one stresses you and they sometimes help you pack.

das mit dem einpacken an der Kasse löst man einfach mit einem Einkaufswagen(war in der Coronahochsaison sogar Pflicht!!!),einfach die Sachen zürück in den Wagen und sich dann ein Plätzchen suchen, wo man dann alles in Ruhe einpacken kann.Kaufland hats uns noch leichter gemacht, indem man mit dem Selfscanner den Einkauf beginnt, das hat den Vorteil, man nimmt die Sachen während des Einkaufsvorgangs nur einmal in die Hand, scannt sie direkt und legt sie in den Wagen.Dann scannt man den QR Code am Bildschirmrand der Expresskasse, zieht den Scanner über die Scanfläche und geht dann in der Menüführung zum Bezahlvorgang. Superpraktisch!!!Das Beste ist,man hat den Kassenzettel hinterher auch auf dem Handy und kann den aus Papier direkt vor Ort entsorgen .
