When people say “why do you watch music reviews” I point them to this video. Your passion and attention to detail to the point of view of the artists is very admirable. I went through a slump where I didn’t appreciate music as much but as I watched the video on how you review music to see videos like this I started changing the way I listened. This definitely caused me to stop enjoying a lot of artists i use to because I stopped looking for catchy one liners and “hard” beats. But it made me appreciate not only real hip hop artists who put time and thought into their albums, but other genres I may not have cared for. Basically I wrote this to be another to acknowledge your impact on music and it’s listeners. In case you ever see this never stop being you!

As a metalhead who rarely goes out of his way to listen to other stuff, I decided to finally give Kendrick Lamar a try. I listened to Section.80 and GKMC, and I’m upset that I’ve been missing out on this art. Kendrick has an amazing ability to write compelling and in depth stories in his lyrics and flows while not giving up awesome instrumentals and just overall catchy music. It’s artists like this that make me wanna venture off into more hip hop music. I’m onto TPAB and I’m so interested in how it’s supposed to top his previous 2, since I just cannot stop listening to them.
EDIT: TPAB is one of the best albums ever

The track overall goes really hard. I don’t care too much for the beat switch, but the song is very lyrically sound nonetheless. You could make the case that there isn’t a skippable song on the album with its catchy hooks, beats, lyrics, etc. Personally I wouldn’t make that case, but you certainly could.

It really was an instant classic, and I really hope its legacy shines further into the future. One of my absolute favorite albums of all time, one of the best I've ever had the pleasure of listening to.

I think this album is a masterpiece and it's crafted incredibly well, but it only works for me if I treat it like a book or movie. I gotta start from the beginning and go all the way through. For example, "u" literally feels like a scene out of a movie, so it's weird when it randomly comes on shuffle. There are only a couple of songs I can listen to on their own and really enjoy, but mostly it feels better as a whole. Does anyone else feel this way?

I've been listening to the album endlessly for the past few days and its honestly one of the most satisfying experiences in music I have ever had. Each new listen I get that much closer to figuring out and deciphering the messages he places into the songs. I salute Kendrick for believing in his fans\listeners and not insulting their intelligence by giving us something to really analyze and sink our teeth into. And thus, this is now the first album I have ever understood the lyrics to, and it's one of the greatest things I have ever had the privilege of listening to.

That's part of what keeps it enjoyable, ya find something new everytime ya here it. And the fact that he can weave such a web is a huge testament to him as well. But yeah, everytime ya here it ya have something new to chew. I prefer that to something like Drake's new album for example any day. Ya here that once and ya got it, but Lamar gives you something with repeatability.

Let's all take a moment to acknowledge the fact that this influential masterpiece of an album lost album of the year to Taylor Swift's 1989. They don't call it the Scammys for nothing 🤷🏻‍♀️🌚

Count on the fucking Grammys to always pull the safe card... “Let’s go with what’s ‘The-In-And-Now’ to keep up that fake moral.”

Well, shit. I don't think it has to do with race. Most mainstream platforms adhere to what is mainstream in itself. A LOT of records are acknowledged and praised for certain aspects, yet it always seems like the Grammys are so narrow-minded into awarding the status-quo.

    T(w)o Pimp A Butterfly = TPAB = 2PAB
    T(w)o Pimp A Caterpillar = TPAC = 2PAC
"Kendrick leaves with a great poem that he made for Pac and leaves us with a caterpillar which becomes and butterfly to escape the m.A.A.d city."(taken from genius)
Knowing that the album has many deep and hidden messages, this can't be a coincidence.

i keep coming back to this review, it's so rare to see melon so passionate about a record, his joy is incredibly infectious.
the comments on this video are hilarious, too.

for real, melon did a great job of selling this album. I wasn't all about it the first listen through, but after i watched melon's review and how he raved about every single song and when he said you really need to listen to what kendrick is saying. It was all very true, and glad i gave this album another chance, now it's probably tied for my favorite of all time along with gkmc.
