I assumed this review would be garbage because everyone hates it, but yo, Melon actually gives it a lot of praise, and a very detailed ANALYSIS. He obviously approaches it as a complex artistic statement (which is how any Kendrick album should be approached) as well as an album, and has a lot of deep and insightful things to say about it.

basically he rates music based on how much enjoyment he gets out of it. 0 means there is pretty much nothing that made his time listening to the album worth it and 10 is pretty much everything was entertaining to an extent. 5, being right in the middle, means that half of it gave him enjoyment somehow. 7 means the good outweighs the bad more than just a little bit and he enjoyed this album
I know how he said a 7 is good and it is however I atleast do not like the fact that he gave lil pump, Aminé, and lil yachty a 7 as well, I even like Aminé but I believed limbo deserved a 5 not a 7 now I do believe that Kendrick did sell out with the trap sound but still I see an 8 as the lowest

KENDRICK'S FATHER BEING SHOT WOULD NOT HAVE LED TO KENDRICK NOT BEING BORN. HE SAYS "COULD HAVE GROWN UP WITHOUT A FATHER." In itself it has nothing deep but if you view it as the alternate reality kendrick that would have existed if his dad didn't then it becomes more interesting. The "all over the place" sound is because he's one rapper half the time and the other rapper the other half of the time. BLOOD and DUCKWORTH are interchangeable intros and outros. I think it's called "Damn." Cause he's realizing the butterfly effect thing and how that small thing at KFC put him where he is now.

What do you mean 'changing my mind'? My dude, listen to the album. Get a general feel for it, and create an opinion on it. Listen to Fantano's take on it, and compare your opinions. Is everything Fantano says sound? Just because he's an intelligent critic who sounds like he knows what he's talking about doesn't mean he doesn't make mistakes, or that his opinion is the most reasonable. ACTUALLY LISTEN TO HIM instead of making up a belief and stubbornly clinging to it and ignoring what others say (not particularly directed towards you but for other people here), or immediately changing your opinion because a critic sounds smarter and says so and so.
Not only that, even if a critic reviews an album harshly, you can still love an album for other reasons, like sentimental value. For example, Anthony trashes J.Cole all the time (and I'm gonna be honest, I share some of his feelings), but I still love Cole's tracks and albums because of the experience they've provided me, even if they're not the most professionally and artistically put together pieces of work.

Art is obviously up for interpretation but I think you got the general message of the album wrong. It seems to me like the album is Kendrick struggling with his faith but by the end he’s more secure. I don’t think it’s any coincidence that he goes from Pride to Humble from Lust to Love. Not only that, he’s moving closer to God the entire album and further away from himself (DNA). It’s also pretty evident when you think about how Duckworth tells you to “put it in reverse.” I have a thought that the reverse is probably a reality where Kendrick’s father dies, which is why the song ends with a gunshot. Even without it, though, you have Kendrick moving away from God the entire album and settling on himself (DNA). Not to mention he now goes from Love to Lust and Humble to Pride. Instead of going from vices to values he does the reverse. Even the switch in the order of Element and Feel. Originally he goes from not “giv[ing] a fuck” that “nobody praying for me” to being depressed about it. Reverse it and he goes from caring about his spirituality and soul to saying he doesn’t “give a fuck” and is going to be fine with his worldly success.
