This is probably my favorite Home Free Song. The harmonies are so amazing. The arrangement was done by Club for Five an a cappella group from Finland. Tim called them to ask about their arrangement and Club for Five just gave it to HF. Which surprised the heck out of Tim because they were complete strangers. It's one of the reasons I love a cappella groups they are very giving to each other. Tim did tweak it by adding the echoes.

Their rendition of this song is hauntingly beautiful. The chorusing between the 2nd and 3rd verses always puts me in mind of people keening at a funeral. I think it's Home Free's ability to vocalize the emotional context of a song that elevates them to the next level. Too often a group can be technically perfect but without that emotional context it will still fall short.

Thirty-three years wearing Air Force blue (26 years 1974 to 2000) active duty. Those of us who are lifelong sworn to an oath to defend the U.S. Constitution are, to the last of us, willing to put ourselves wherever our nation needs us. For some, that means putting yourself voluntarily in harm's way. For some of those, they come back with scars, some not visible. For some others, they put down their lives. We, contrary to common belief, hate war more deeply than civilians do or can.
The visual light passing through these singers and the mist hanging around them are symbolic of the fact that the horrors of war have little changed for centuries. This is not just the voice of one fallen soldier, it is the echoed voices of all the fallen
The next war needs to involve just two people: the leader of the two nations at war. Let them be unarmed and go after each other. After all, it is their war; we just historically fight and die for it.

Home Free is unapologetically patriotic and they tackle many sensitive social issues head on without hesitation. They leave their egos at the door. Nothing is more important than the music and it's message. Even when they're doing a funny video, the music never suffers. The harmonic blending of all five voices call to mind a huge old pipe organ being played solemn and low.
There was a lot of symbolism at work as well. Ghostly silhouettes before the windows for a warrior slipping away, the image of the MIA-POW flag for the many lives lost in senseless wars.

I have always loved this song by Dire Straits but think Home Free did an excellent version of this song. Tim's natural breathy bass was awesome along with Chance's smooth baritone & loved it when all the guys were doing 5 part harmonies. Who would believe humming could sound so good. Beautifully sung by Tim and Chance, but the background and harmony of Adam, Rob and Austin is also so beautiful. It looks like a choir or actually a kind of church organ sounds. @@EthanDrewMusic - I'm not sure most Amercans have any clue when or what the Falklands war was or what is was about - no disrespect intended but U.S. schools tend to only teach American history. I once saw the play "Cavalcade" and sitting behind me was an American couple (their accents were Texan). The play includes vignettes from the Boer war, WWI, WWII and the death of Queen Victoria. Tim’s “chest” range appears to bottom out at around G#/Ab1, while his growl and chest fry range appears to bottom out at the G0 (which is INSANE). "We're fools to make war on our brothers in arms" indeed. I say let the psychopathic billionaire oligarchs & banksters (& the politicians they own) go kill each other while we, the 99.99% of humanity, live our lives in peace.
The Dire Straits original is striking in itself, & Club for Five are due major shine for this amazing arrangement (when Tim enquired with Tuukka about it, he just straight up sent him the arrangement & wished him well!), but this is *deeply* #Haunting. A profound song, sung profoundly. Sure as sh!t makes *me* cry (& I'm a stoney-faced auld Scotsman!), so don't be feeling alone there fella! ;)

And I'm with you in saying that we must do better in how we treat each other. Think of how people treat each other after a natural disaster or like 9/11. Nobody cares at those times what someone's background is. Only that people need help. And then when the worst is over, we go back to acting the same crappy way to the very same people we just worked so well with during the time of need. We need to retrain our brains and give common sense a try.

Like all art, there is intentionally room for interpretation.
You are right in saying that the original was "about a soldier dying in battle and his brothers in arms watching him slip away." But, without changing lyrics, Home Free expanded the meaning. In their words:
"The meaning of Brothers in Arms rings true across more than just when we’re at war overseas, but when we’re fighting amongst ourselves. When political and other divisions split us, we have to take a step back and remember that we always have more in common with each other than we have that is different. And we need to see all of our fellow human beings as the brothers and sisters we are, so we can live in a more harmonious society."
You said you were not going to analyze and talk ... and then proceeded to do soanyway.
    Still, a good review.

Unfortunately, breaking down the music in a reaction/analysis video on this channel is inevitable for me. I do try my best to really enjoy/feel the music while I’m breaking it down, but my desire to help my audience understand the musical “genius” in these performances/arrangements just takes over sometimes. I will say, I do listen to the music several times over after filming!
Nonetheless, thank you so much for stopping by and watching, as well as commenting, I appreciate you! ❤️

really enjoyed your reaction to this song. Don't care what others think about it since this is a reaction channel, if they don't like someone talking during it then go listen to the songs only and stay off of reaction channels. As for your "thank you" to those who served,,, I did my time starting during the Nam and ending after Desert Storm and my reply is that you and everyone else are worth it. Glad to hear the meanings you took away from this song. My only addition would be that the firemen and police officers can put themselves in this song too, especially in todays society.
