I agree whole heartedly. I've listened to Dire Straits singing this maybe hundreds of time through the years and its haunting beauty has never failed to bring tears to my eyes. And while sounding slightly different (took me 3-4 go-rounds to get used to Tim's bass rumble) this rendition has become just as beloved.
I was a military wife for 20+ years, lost my hero to PTSD, they made this into a amazing tribute to the military, I cry every time I listen, been a Home Fry for years, but this song just sealed my love of Home Free, thank you God for them, they are all angels
I know this it has been 1 year ago since you reacted to his.. One thing to note in this that no one I have seen has commented on.. is Adam Rupp is SINGING in this one NOT doing his usual beatboxing. I maybe wrong but you asked who is doing the really high voice? It could be Austin or it also could be Adam Rupp! Adam Rupp did the high pitch voice sounds on Home Free's version of "Listen to the Music" cover from The Doobie Brothers. Also excellent and pretty much "Listen to the Music" has Adam Rupp's talents all over it! Not only in doing the phenomenal beatboxing but the high pitch sounds he makes in that video!
Adam Chance has said that this is his favorite song since he was a teen. BTW, it was Tim's idea to add the echo effect after those few lines. Genius move on his part.
I find it amazing how Home Free always seems to one up themselves on a consistent basis, even though I thought their previous performance was outstanding. Can they continue to blow my mind???
As you enjoy them more and more the small things will make you more excited and then the big thing makes you go crazy and they will keep getting better for some time.
You said it - their diction is so clear that one often realizes meanings in a song that you hadn't really heard previously (for example their rendition of "Born in the U.S.A." - I've seen American politicians use it and obviously they've misunderstood it!). Thanks for playing this and your analysis and commentary.
That was gorgeous wasn’t it?!! Stunning. Loved this. Those harmonies were so good. Loved Tim’s low notes. Can you believe he can sing tenor too? Amazing. Loved the film. The black and white film and lighting made Tim and Chance look ghost like in the windows. Just amazing. Great reaction Christopher. Try Helplessly Hoping next.
Thanks for watching! I definitely agree…there’s so much I could comment on as I venture into so much more than music including production, but I don’t want my videos to be 30-45 minutes long haha.
@@creativecrewfam their arrangements are so good but their camera and video guys are amazing also. I listened to this numerous times when their Land of the Free Album came out. But the video added so much more depth with the vocals.
They saved me too, I owe those boys a deep debt. When I feel like I’m drowning I just let their voices carry me away from everything, and watching other people discover that same magic? It’s amazing!
I love that we got to hear Adam sing in this one. I wouldn't be surprised if he was doing that high part you mentioned about halfway through the song. He has a beautiful tenor voice.
The dropped jaw when Tim sings the opening lines seems to be the standard reaction from just about every reactor I've listened to. And the amazing thing is that there is no bass line in the harmonies behind the beginning of Chance's first lead. That means Tim was singing high harmonies there. They are all so amazingly talented.
All I could think of listening & watching this video was the futility of war in any country. There are no winners only losers. I have always loved this song by Dire Straits but think Home Free did an excellent version of this song. Tim's natural bass was awesome & so were all the guys doing 5 part harmonies. And you are right these guys enunciate the words clearly where a lot of other singers mumble.
You almost need to listen multiple to times to absorb everything going on, the harmonies, the vocals, the emotion. Tooooo much all at once. Great reaction
Home Free just gets better and better if that is even possible. From Butts remix, Hillbilly bone, and others that show their vocal prowess AND humor, to Hopelessly Hoping, How Great Thou Art to this song, that puts you on emotional roller coaster. I cant say ANYTHING negative about any of Home Free's music, and this one is SO beautiful, and as you said, timely. Great reaction.
This totally took me by surprise. I didn’t think after hearing MAYDAY they could top it. I didn’t think any song would get any better than Mayday. Lord, I’m at a lost for words.
This song brings tears to my eyes, and even though it makes me cry, it's also so beautiful, haunting, wonderful! As always, Home Free moves me in so many different ways!
Haven't heard this song in years, or maybe even decades. Hearing this version brought on so much emotion! Had to go back and listen to the original Dire Straits which is just so powerful! To all of our brothers and sisters in arms who have put their lives on the line over the years defending the red, white and blue, I offer a most grateful thank you.
And that sir, is why Home Free is the BEST!!! I was looking for new adjectives to describe them, because, honestly, I'm running out of words. So, I'm stealing yours... BISCUIT!!! ❤️ Thank you for your reactions! You are a sweetheart!!! 🤗
This song is beautiful and haunting at the same time. Tim and Chance did wonderful and Austin, Rob and Adam held the background so well. Thank you for reacting to this amazing song.
I am emotionally wore out. So beautifully done by all, lighting, staging, singing, and harmonizing. I call Tim Foust (the bass singer) "The Singing Dragon", the depth that he can go and the "scale" he can go high is nothing but amazing!!
Wow is all one can say...wow. This is so powerful... another one that is really gorgeous Is Helplessly Hoping. Thank you for commenting on their diction which makes them such a pleasure to listen to. Thanks for your Home Free reactions.
Along with every musical gift you could pack into a song, the visual effect of the window frames being visible through the “phantom figures” was excellent! Yet another masterpiece
Perfect arrangement, perfect vocals. Tim's bass gives the vocal weight that this song demands. And Chance's smooth baritone...I swear his voice was made for songs like this. But then he does something like "Some Girls Do" and I have to rethink it. Since we are heading into the holiday season, I would strongly suggest "Do You Hear What I Hear?" for several reasons. 1. Arrangement is by Adam Rupp (the beatboxer) and is one of the most unique and breathtaking arrangements of that song I have ever heard. 2. The Vocals are stunning. 3. You may be able to catch some of the things Tim does vocally. (Hint - Watch his hand. He tends to conduct himself, especially in his lower range) It is an older song, before Chance joined. At the time, co founder and brother of Adam Rupp, Chris, was covering the baritone/tenor range. But is still very much a masterpiece.
I heard someone say it's called Tim's bass hand. Watching all the video's that they have done I find myself smiling sometimes because I think between Tim and Adam if they were standing too close to the other guys they could knock them over....
@@brendagrothier967 Tim calls it his bass hand himself and claims he can't always control it as it is such an unconcious movement for him. Lol. But yes, those two could hit accidentally smack someone!! Lol
@@lisaseverance6785 Actually, there's a video of them performing on the CMA press stage in... I want to say 2014 where they were given only 2 mics, so Rob, Austin, and Chris took one, and Adam and Tim took the other. Adam's beatboxing sometimes involves him pulling the mic in close or moving it further away, so Tim was constantly trying you adjust you where he needed to sing. Toward the end Adam accidentally (lightly) hits Tim with the mic. I've often joked that I'm not sure Adam could beatbox if his hands were tied.
Just wanted to drop a line to let you know how much I enjoy your comments on the songs you react to including how the artists (especially Home Free who I have recently come to enjoy) form their harmonies & how their chords can affect your mood while listening. I subscribed because of the way you explain things. Stay safe & I look forward to your future reactions. 🤗🤗🥰🥰👏👏❤️❤️
I loved the original Dire Straits song and love the Home Free one even more. The eargasm you get from the harmonies, Tim's low notes, the words being sung just make you tear up. Nice to see there are others out there that feel the same listening to this song.
There were more visuals in this video that some may not have noticed. As a veteran and understanding this song, I noticed this group of men standing in distant formation and as the light passes through Chance and Tim it signifies the soldiers who didn’t make it home. Also, when Tim stands in front of the window and the ray of light passes over him it makes a cross as his silhouette resembles that of the soldier on the black POW/MIA flag that’s flying under old glory.
Great reaction sir! This one completely broke and actually left me breathless. Perfect harmonies and brilliant arrangement. The cinematography is Amazing, loving the way it makes the guys seem see-through and the way the light is at the windows. This one seems " Holy " to me like being on sacred ground!
The echoes remind me when you do military funerals and hearing Taps….how the sound literally rolls across the hills….the acoustics in a cemetery is something similar to the effect,
Their harmonies follow the guitar part in the song. Was on the English band Dire Straits album back in the early 1980s called "Brothers In Arms". Their album quite rightly was a worldwide smash hit!
This is the first time commenting on your channel but you are quickly becoming one of my favorite reactors. I really enjoy the way your love of music shines through and am glad I found you and subscribed. God bless from a TN Home Fry.
Great reaction. Subbed. Thanks for subbinng to HF. I always say I love HF's 'diction'. So many songs with unknown lyrics until HF cleared it up for me.
not sure if you noticed but there was no vocal percussion. Typically when this happens, you will notice another layer that is extremely high. That new layer is Adam Rupp. You can really hear it in their version of How Great Thou Art (PSA: bring a tissue.)
Great reaction Chris. New subscriber here and can't wait to see more Home Free, especially as we get close to Christmas. So many fantastic songs, Do You Hear What I Hear, Auld Lang Syne, Grandma Got Ran Over By A Reindeer, etc... The Cinematography on this song is just on point here. Also, I don't know if it's been said yet so here goes. You may notice when Tim and Chance are at the windows, it gives the same silhouette you'd see on POW flags, which I thought is a very cool addition.
Check out Adam Rupp (beatboxer)'s "drum Solo", you'll get a glimpse of just how ridiculous his range is too. Anything they do where Adam gets to join the harmonies is stunning.
Some of the high harmonies were Adam Rupp. He has a stunning tennor voice and I've read that Tim has said Adam has the biggest range in the group. Great reaction
It's absolutely a gorgeous song. Very heart felt and meaningful to anyone that is active duty , family members, or a veteran of the military. 😥💕 Could you please look into doing In The Blood by Home Free?

Such a genius touch to show the silhouette of the fellas in front of the window. I know some see it as a "ghost"y reference but it strikes me as a reflection of the POW/MIA flag. We'll never know just how many of those met the same fate as the soldier of this song. 😥
You know, I know your channel is new, but your reaction to Home Free and Auston is phenomenal, I love it! *Bisquit!* So, now I've watched all your HF+Auston reactions like 10 times, and decided that it was about time to subscribe to your channel (knowing that you're doomed to continue falling into that rabbit hole). I can't wait till this journey makes you start reacting to Peter Hollens as well, he's a legend, and works so much with Home Free, and with their members individually, especially Tim. Can't wait for your reaction to "Helplessly Hoping", as Mette suggested below. And you haven't done "Man of Constant Sorrow" or "In the Blood" yet, I just can't wait to see your reaction to them! Awesome channel, I like your personality, and your explaining - it shows you're a teacher, love it!
Awee thank you so much! Thanks for subscribing too! I definitely know about Peter Hollens and will be adding him eventually, too. Excited for more creativity! :)
Subbed! Thanks so much. It's awesome isn'tit? I appreciate you immediately mentioning the minor chords. A lot of people don't realize that is not that easy to sing such tight harmonies, and even more so in minor. It's what makes things so haunting. Love this arrangement. Like organ chords here or there and the end one! Take care, thanks. So many more we love from these guys! We are super loyal fans, been to six live shows. They are hilarious and fun and funny. This one wasn't that way, of course, but love them all the time. They do sing their words so clearly don't they, in their live shows also. They are well trained musicians!
This arrangement is actually from another, older group called Club for Five (though they did make it their own of course). I'd love you to readt to the original version! ua-cam.com/video/Gerr99h0nS8/v-deo.html
A lot of those high notes are also Adam Rupp. His range is insane and when he's not beatboxing, he's up in Tenorland doing more wonderful things with his voice.
I enjoy the A Capella style of music, I count myself as a "Home Free" fan & do think the group did a very admirable job on it... Unfortunately.... "Brother's in Arms" has been my all time fav Dire Straits song since it first came out in '85 & never fails to move me to the verge of tears. The lead-in of the light guitar notes mixed with the storm... the thought provoking lyrics Knopfler's soulful & absolutely ICONIC guitar... As said above, HF made a great effort, but to me, this falls short when compared to the original.
Absolutely fantastic musical and emotional reaction to this piece, but surprised you did not comment on the videography with them being transparent, denoting that these were the spirits of deceased soldiers.
This was my first time hearing the song all together, so I was trying to focus on many things…didn’t really grasp the true meaning of the song until after I reacted. Went back to listen again :)
@@creativecrewfam Please don't get me wrong. If I came across as critical, that was not my intention. Been playing and singing since I was 6 (72 years and counting) and Home Free finally surpassed the Hi Lows as my favorite quartet (I don't count the beatboxer).
Brothers in Arms written by Mark Knoffler of Dire Straits in the 80s . Falklands War. Mark was left handed but played right without plectrums. Listen to the original, also listen to Sultan of Swing Alchemy. I love ♥️this version. 👍

Thanks for watching and subscribing! I’m glad you enjoyed. Stay tuned for more creative videos :)
This arrangement is actually from another, older group called Club for Five (though they did make it their own of course). I'd love you to readt to the original version!

sure it's meant to be a solemn song However Home Free takes you to Church with it.
Even though this isn't a laughing Song. I get tickled just watching your reactions! Just found your Chanel.....much respect.
Glad you enjoyed!
Powerful.
Another one for harmonies is How Great Thou Art.
I was SO EXCITED to see you do this! Those boys give me rolling chills time after time and I hoped they would do the same for you!
I’m glad you enjoyed and were excited for this one! I definitely enjoyed it myself :)
A lot of those high notes are also Adam Rupp. His range is insane and when he's not beatboxing, he's up in Tenorland doing more wonderful things with his voice.
Tim’s and Chance’s solos are magnificent and the harmonies are superb! I could listen to a whole song of just their harmonies.
I agree!
I'm a big fan of Home Free! Unbelievably beautifully sung! I believe the arrangement originally came from the Finnish vocal group Club For Five?
You earned a new subscriber.. Great reaction. I was around for Dire Straits' original.. mind BLOWN with this interpretation.
Thanks for watching and subscribing! I’m glad you enjoyed :)
The lead-in of the light guitar notes mixed with the storm...
the thought provoking lyrics
Knopfler's soulful & absolutely ICONIC guitar...
As said above, HF made a great effort,
but to me, this falls short when compared to the original.
I’ll have to check out the original!

All good! 😊🙏🏼
I think you are ready for reacting to Man of Constant Sorrow. A little older than what you've reacted to but showcases their talents.
Already done! Just got to edit it :)
Beautiful reaction!
Thank you!
Brothers in Arms written by Mark Knoffler of Dire Straits in the 80s . Falklands War.
Mark was left handed but played right without plectrums.
Listen to the original, also listen to Sultan of Swing Alchemy.
I love ♥️this version.
👍
There's always a market for harmony. But it's always in short supply. When will they learn? Beatles anyone?
Watching your reactions from "now to past" (sev hours), and liking most of them.
But this one deserved a subscription :)
Great! Keep it UP, please!
EDIT: Hit your beginning on youtube, and I think THIS ONE is the best. Cheers!
Wow, thank you!
