  • The 2022 Toyota Tundra Double Cab SR ($56,335 CAD as specced, ~$49,995 USD as specced) is a brand new pickup filled with Toyota’s latest tech. It gets many new updates over the outgoing model, such as rear coil springs and a new infotainment system. But in lieu of a V8, Toyota has opted for a twin-turbo V6 engine in all 2022 Tundra models. Thomas and James are excited to see what the new Tundra is about and if the updates have made any noticeable improvements over the previous generation. We hope you enjoy the episode! Subscribe!!

    I kinda disagree about towing with the turbo v6's. I've had quite a few 3.5 EcoBoost trucks and only one 5.0L. the EcoBoost is at 90% of its torque at like 1700rpm. The V8 is constantly fishing for gears at every little hill or headwind. The turbo v6's pull more like the way a diesel pulls. Fuel economy is awful on either option when towing so that's not really a consideration in my mind. Not too sure on long term reliability as I haven't really had any major issues with either.

    • @ph00ny1

      Key is that it's at 1700RPM with turbo spooled up not on its own. Prolong turbo spool isn't good either with oil temp plus engine compartment heaat

    That’s actually more of a bottom trim than a mid-trim. SR is the base trim, and because it’s a double cab it costs significantly less than a crew cab. The bread and butter truck for Toyota will be the SR5 trim, with crew cab, and 4x4.

    • @chrispy3045

      yeah SR is detuned compared to the SR5 . Technically theres 3 different power outputs for this new tundra . 1. 348hp and 405lb/ft - 2. 389hp and 479lb/ft -

    Admittedly not a truck guy but I totally agree, they do all more or less look the same to me. The Rivian was the first one that really caught my eye. That’s less about the what i.e. what features, and more about the how i.e. how they’re delivered, how it looks. It’s very distinct, I was legitimately impressed, which is a big feat from a truck for me.

    • @haydenwiseman3056
      @haydenwiseman3056 2 роки тому

      The only problem I see with things like the Rivian is that these EVs just seem too quirky. I can't wait until the F150 and the Silverado come out as they seem much more mainstream. I get that these startup companies need to make a name for themselves but it just seems like most EVs don't really fit in, they all try and look special.

Whenever Ford does release the Raptor R (if at this point) it's going to be pretty limited and likely you won't find one for under $150k.

    So Diesels use turbos and are great for towing. Turbos are fine for towing. People are just skeptical at about the V6. If it was a V8 with Turbos no one would say anything. So the issue really is the V6 and let's be honest those who don't like it hate the sound. I'm perfectly happy with a Boosted engine (no matter size or cylinders) as long as it had power.

      lol , man , you do know the 5.7L ISNT as reliable as people who dont know shit about mechanics think right ... The older 4.7L V8 was bulletproof for sure, but the 5.7l had problems. Toyota has been testing this 3.5L twin turbo V6 for 10 years. It launched in the Lexus LS 6 years ago and prior to launch in the LS , did 4 years of testing. This is toyota , not your brain

    • @MrDonohuea

      @@georgehugeabutt9947 I didn't say shit about the 5.7. Its more about a new model year. If you think a new model year is going to be more reliable than an old gen, you don't shit. But I'll throw in two twin turbos that wont last 150,000 miles as a door prize for ya. I'm sure the tested the shit of em, just to make sure they don't die under warranty. LOL

      Old school V8 old school gas mileage, great sounding radio, reverse camera looks like something Alpine radios came out with 25 years ago, seats are very comfortable, ride is comparable to the last generation ram with coil spring rear end, 9-speed autos pretty smooth, a lot of throttle delay in stop and go traffic, not as much storage inside, no flat floor in the rear, crew cab rear doors do not open as far as other manufacturers, you don't realize it until you go to open it up and you about break it thinking it's going to continue to open, HVAC system not the greatest the temperature control doesn't exactly match what you're asking for, you'll find yourself hunting for the correct temperature. Quiet cab, interior panels vibrate or rattle if you have the radio up, you cannot turn off emergency braking you will have to shut it off every time when backing the trailer even if you back it up two feet pull forward and try to back again you will continually have to hit the button to shut the alarm off, voice navigation or voice recognition is on par with Ford sync 3 sync 2 another words not very good, lighting is excellent, save your money and buy a regular four-wheel drive the pro 4X is nothing special think of it as a appearance package with a rear locker that can only be used in 4low, traction control cannot be turned off no matter how long you hold the button it will always intervene. Tow mirrors are excellent big enough to where you can see what's going on small enough where it doesn't look like Dumbo to elephant rolling down the road like ford has on their half tons. Fuel tank in my opinion is too small for a full size truck especially considering the fuel mileage the truck gets. That's a pretty quick overview of what you're going to get. This is based on my own experience I have since sold mine. This was the second Nissan Titan I have owned.

    I ordered the sport before I had seen it in person,@ the time I had only seen UA-cam videos…When I saw it in person @ my place of employment in the parking lot it looked lower than the showroom model I saw previously which was just the basic sr5….I cancelled my order & took the TRD OR,it was $200 more with locking rear diff & a higher suspension,it was a no brainer…The sport looked like a bigger Tacoma to me in person.

    Normally love your videos guys and I know this was a one-take sort of review, but I feel it was a missed opportunity NOT checking the back seat leg room, if there is any. Those back does look stupidly small and I’ve been wondering if they would just be better as suicide doors ever since this truck came out? Anyways, carry on.
