I have only one syngonium, a small but compact and healthy specimen. It is a "descendant" of a massive plant which my father grew in our living room back in the day. The clipping I got has changed households, offices and countries... My father passed away 19 years ago -- he was a real enthusiast when it came to plants and we used to say that if he stuck a pencil in the ground, it would end up blooming. Sometimes, I amuse myself with the thought that my dad can somehow see me garden and gets a real kick out of it. :) Thanks, Summer!
I CAN NOT EVEN TELL YOU HOWWWWW LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG Ive been trying to find out WHAT this plant IS!!!!!!! Lol! I cant even believe after like 7 YEARS!!!! I finally have seen the same thing that I have!!!!! I got it at the thrift shop I volunteer at like 7 years ago!! THe lady that donated a bunch of little plants she grew as cuttings never came back in or at least never mentioned it was her that dropped them off and for 7 YEARS, lol, Ive been asking anyone I meet that is a "plant person" and NO ONE could tell me!!! UNTIL TODAY! I actually grabbed a realllyyyy cool vintage Pocket Plant book at the thrift shop (I still volunteer every monday and find the coolest stuff, lol!), which I got for the pictures in it (to photocopy and use for decoupage) and then I seen a pic that looked SOMEWHAT like my plant....the "Sweetheart Vine"....from there, in my recommend was YOUR video and BOOM! THERE IT IS! Lol! Im sooo happy I found it! Its also funny you say you volunteer at the Sr Living Center, because the thrift I volunteer at is at my local Council on Aging, lol! Too funny! When these plants were dropped off, no one took the one I ended up with bc it was really sad looking, lol! They almost tossed it until I said ILL TRY IT...Im not good at plants AT ALL, but I also get VERY LITTLE sunlight in my apartment...It get Sun up facing sun, for about 3 hrs in my window before the sun rises up and is then covered by the roof hangover and trees...but this is the ONLYYYYY plant Ive been able to keep alive, lol! Its such a cool plant that has REALLLYYYYYY grown! Im not a great waterer, which is why this plant does so well, lol! I do give it room temp bottled spring water (my water is WICKED hard!!!) For some reason this ole gal does so well in Massachusetts...I literally killed everything else, even ALOE! I swear, if you have a 'black thumb' like I do, this is SUCH a great plant to have. Thanks for this vid, it took so long to finally find out what she is, but now I know! =)
I know this is nothing about the plants, but honey you have the most beautiful glowing skin that I have ever seen on UA-cam! Could you PLEASE do a video about what you use on your skin to make it unbelievably gorgeous?! Sorry it's way off the topic, but I couldn't resist!
In the store where I work, they all went down to half price because they've been in the store for over a year without anyone buying them! I don't get it!
I had 2 last year, killed both of them....I think it was because I had them in the bathroom which faces north with a little window. I'll give it another try this spring & put it in the south window. Thanks for all the tips.😉
My elder aunt used to work as a horticulturalist in her "younger working" days, now she's a retiree... And she had a ton of plants and as she says, about 20 years ago she threw away potful of plants into a nearby bamboo forest due to reasons and till now the syngoniums dominate that bamboo forest along with pothos. They are really huge and mature and some even bloom. I live in a subtropical climate in Assam, India and here we get temperatures down to 5° C(41°C) and they don't seem to mind it. And i think syngoniums are super underrated! 💚
My geometry teacher in high school had an enormous arrowhead plant growing by a window on top of a filing cabinet. I coveted that plant but only got one 30 years later. I grew it for several years in a hanging pot in my bathroom under artificial light before taking some cuttings and starting a second plant in mostly indirect light in my living room. I’m not sure why these aren’t as popular as pothos since I think they’re prettier (although they grow more slowly - that having been said the one in the living room exploded about 6 months ago and has been growing like a weed). I’ve never had trouble with rot although leaves will brown up and die if you underwater them.
I love my Syngonium and it's so true when everyone says it's so underrated. It's so easy to grow and now I like to recommend this plant to friends who are new to plant care.
I feel Sygnonium doesn’t get as much credit as Pothos and Philodendrons among the vining aroids. They’re such great resilient plants, and so easy to care for. Love these plant care vids! And Merry Christmas to you!
@@mkpetersen1607 haha well once you find the perfect blend they’re pretty easy. Try giving it an aroid blend. I gave mine the mix I give my philodendrons, put it in a terracotta pot, and put it in medium light. I water it once every 5 to 7 days and it’s doing well.
syngonium is so underrated i have more than 6 pots of them growing in medium to bright light and they just keep growing and i keep propagating in water. they're so rewarding bcs they grow so fast
A neighbor who moved out threw one in our dumpster. There was barely a sign of life left. One year later and it's doing great! Comparable to the one you keep at the Senior center.
i have five types of syngonium. plant one of them in my garden below the mango tree and they grow like crazy. the older leaves divided into three separate leaves. so happy!
I am in QLD Australia, I am used to thinking of these guys as invasive plants but now I am trying to grow a couple in pots; one on the verandah to shelter my Hoya Australis a bit, another inside, since they are so easy and I want green. Thanks, this was a useful video.
summer!!! you are the best! your like the plant mom of youtube🪴 you are the whole reason i got into plants in the first place. i always watch the ads for you💜 ily!
My arrowheads are mostly common varieties that you can find on any store. I bought a dying cream allusion on clearance last summer and it's gotten huge. It just needed some water. Always check the clearance section of box stores if they have one.
just seeing this today, it's extemely informative, thank you. The video hits on some basic houseplant care which I keep reminding myself over and over it helps to re-learn, I've kept houseplants, reef tanks, etc. and it's always a good idea to re-learn what we've forgot. thanks again, Todd.
i recently got my own arrowhead plant! it was drooping when i first got it, did research on basic watering, checked the soil to see it dry. i gave it a bit of a watering yesterday and woke up to the whole thing being risen up!! your video gave me so much more info on this plant thank you!!
I unintentionally left my S. neon pink in my old greenhouse and the temps were averaging 4c at night but it never did any damage it just stopped growing its now indoors and has started to grow again . Great video thank you.
I found this growing up the trees at my aunt’s house. We’re in central Florida. I brought a long vine home to water propagate and try my hand at it before trying the colorful varieties in cultivation for the houseplant market.
Beautiful! Thank you! My new favorite plant from my mama. Once she get's bigger I believe I will buy her a moss pole like I did for my golden pothos vine. Plant happy!
Syngonium 's grow like crazy...very easy, easier than Pothos or Philodendrons. I now have too many of them 😅 Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you!
What a wonderful Christmas gift. I got one 2 years ago (like the one UA-cam cut) I now have 9 plants. On one plant I have so many different colors from white to dark green and all kind of varigations in between. One should have a Syngonium in the home.

I have never seen one like it in any plant shops around here. It grows very easy and have given cuttings to friends. Maybe I've found a new type of plant but it's fairly common in that area so probably not. I learn a lot from your Videos.
I have been growing syngonium Randy for years in a pot in pot self watering system. They do dry out occasionally but seldom & no problems at all. And they are in regular potting soil. Soil hasn’t been changed forever. Guess I should repot them. Your videos are always informative & interesting. Thanks

Always happy to see your notifications👏 A friend gave me a small white butterfly I keep in a NE bay window; looks great and has really started to grow. I placed a 12” piece of driftwood in the center to stake it up and I really like the look...now I can barely see the wood and those roots are INTO the base of the driftwood. I got 3 plans bought 2 from Walmart and 1 from homedepot 10.00 I really like it very much. It's so easy to care bright light, medium light, or low light it just OK sure I will buy more syngonium different colors or different varieties.
Hi, Summer. 👋 thanks so so much for this informative and inspiring video! Syngoniums, once you start to adopt one, you cannot help but want to collect them all! 😆 I have a white butterfly, pink allusion, neon robusta, crazy plum! And I am hoping to get more and more!
Makes a great hanging basket plant . I have one growing on a living wall outdoors. Winter night temperatures are typically in the 40’s f. It hasn’t gone below 40f. / 5c. No cold damage. It’s not invasive inSoCal.
I LOVE Syngoniums! I have the white butterfly that is actually growing quite large and has started to vine, I am growing the "Maria" she is a maroon color and a bit more finicky, she keeps dropping leaves right now, it being winter I am thinking that's why. I have the variegated albo which is loving life and growing like a weed up a coco coir pole. I have the pink splash that has been staying quite small and compact but very very cute! and another regular yellowish colored one, I can't remember the name. and I also have a mottled one that has also proven to not care for the winter months. Alive but not too happy at the moment. lol... Either way I love them all equally! Certainly one of my favorite aroid species. Great video! Thanks so much Summer!
MERRY CHRISTMAS SUMMER!! love you & your videos. I appreciate the calming sounds you use in a lot of your videos, your voice is soothing as well, and i love watching them while being sick with covid - you help calm my anxieties
We have this growing under a balcony in the mountains in Southeastern Brazil, where occasionally we get freezing temperatures. The plant is doing fine, probably because of the microclimate in that space.
I have two syngonium in my house, the one that grows under a skylight (roof window) grows far more better than the other one which grows on a shelf next to a normal window, second one is less appealing bc it has a deeper green color
Thanks for this interesting video Summer, I have four pink syngoniums which thrive on neglect. I water them only once a month and they love it. The pink color is very interesting and makes for a nice display with other green plants. A merry Christmas to you and your family, stay home stay safe.
Hi! I'm wondering if you could maybe do a video covering how to "observe" your plants? I often find that sometimes when I observe my plants that they aren't necessarily showing signs of needing water or anything else, but then I check the soil and it's very dry. In that case, I'm not really sure what I should be doing. The same goes for things like too much sun, etc. It would be really nice to have some information all in one video. Thank you!!
I found one at the store, and my goodness was it so cute and tiny, it’s starting to grow very tall, I don’t have any moss poles but always thought it was a vining plant. It was labelled “tropical plant” which most plants are labelled at the stores here.
This was amazing !! I'm growing a exotic maria allusion arrow head plant in a 4 in pot and I bottom water it because I'm too scared of fungus gnats it's just too much honestly
Merry Christmas, Summer Rayne! I love these plants! I have four different varieties and am on the wait list for the Alba variety! Mine are in self watering with LECA. They are just beautiful! ⛄❄

We have this growing under a balcony in the mountains in Southeastern Brazil, where occasionally we get freezing temperatures. The plant is doing fine, probably because of the microclimate in that space.
Ty for all your hard work this year! Have a wonderful Christmas & a better New Year! 💜
Very comprehensive and detailed! Thank you! Ms Summer Rayne, 😘💕 watching from 🇵🇭
Fantastic video it survives anything it’s amazing plant!!
Thank you for this video! I just got my first Syngonium yesterday and it’s beautiful
Bought my first syngonium today - a cheery little pixie.
I’ve noticed that they can also do ok not watering them all the time.
This is very true, our little coffee field fill with that plant and its very hard to kill .. very invasive .. thanks for this videos ..
Love you videos always so informative.
These are so beautiful. Wish I had any luck w any of the syngoniums ❤🌿
Hi summer. I love your videos. I’ve learned a lot. Thank you 😊
I have two syngonium in my house, the one that grows under a skylight (roof window) grows far more better than the other one which grows on a shelf next to a normal window, second one is less appealing bc it has a deeper green color
i love your detailed videos a lott
