Nothing says "This is a paid advertisement" more than two paragraphs of disclaimer displayed on the screen.
So right
Indeed. Horrible.
I don’t own an EV but why wasn’t the Model Y Performance compared against the Genesis Performance?
Because this is a Hyundai ad.
A couple opinions about this “review”:
1. That Genesis as built is $70,125.
2. That Tesla as built is $43,990 and qualifies for a $7500 tax credit in the states where the Genesis does not, bringing it to $36,490 (or roughly half the price of that Genesis).
3. Tesla has a Performance version as well which would have been a more fair comparison and can still be bought for $44,990 if you quality for tax incentives or $52,490 without.
4. You can now get a Model X for $72,490 which is a class above both of these vehicles and almost the same price as the Genesis.
5. This was pretty clearly a Genesis commercial, not a “Showdown”.
None of those versions of the teslas have ANY of the luxury or high tech appointments that the Genesis has. The only different in those trims is speed or range. Model X is ranked 20th in luxury electric SUV at Car&Driver mag. GV60 is ranked #3. Model X costs $82K. $12k more then the GV60
This feels more like an ad for Hyundai rather than an editorial. Motor Trend is becoming the LinkedIn of auto journalism. :D
When your competition is so much better merely describing the differences between the two cars feels like an ad.
Motor trend on the payroll
Did you do a full review without mentioning the price once? This looks like cars from two different segments!
And that's basically because they are. The Genesis price as tested is about $30,000 more than the Tesla
Both electric SUV's. Tesla chose to have cheap interior and no tech. Genesis went the other way.
Is this an ad/sponsored content? It seems so exceptionally biased.
I guess Hyundai Motor Group has not only partnered with Amazon but also Motor Trend. Solid Commercial, just very very odd.
This was essentially a commercial.
Motor Trend lost its credibility through once single advertisement disguised as a head-to-head comparison.
no price comparison….

Genesis GV60’s Winning Edge over the Tesla Model Y.
I like how he threw his phone away when they said the model y didn't have carplay Lmao
When I switch from the Tesla to the Genesis.
I feel like I'm in a different world.
No desire to go back :)
Why? Please explain.
@@ryankozak99 I personally like this equipment in front of the driver, which Genesis asks for.
Got Head-up-Display in the front windshield. Got speedometers and much more rear steering wheel.
With Tesla only an iPad.
@@stefanek56 Thanks for the feedback.
Talk about comparing apples to oranges! 🙄
This was a waste of my bandwidth.
I just watched a Genesis commercial smh
Gripping comparison video? Felt a bit more like a rushed, poorly researched add for boomers. Literally missed all the luxury tech and benefits of the Tesla Model Y. One example...one of these cars car drive itself with minimal supervision virtually anywhere in the US and Canada. The other is the Genesis.
Waiting till Doug DeMuro makes a video about it lol
Correct, if you live in a place with good weather and well-marked roads, and want an appliance to drive you around so you can stare at your phone more, the choice is clear.
Cool Genesis commercial
There’s nothing in this video about range, battery manufacturing location, tax incentives, storage capacity…etc.
How much Hyundai paid Motor Trend for this commercial?? 🤔
No mention of range or charging speed. And frankly as a Tesla driver I don’t need Apple CarPlay.
No question at this stage this comparison is moot given the Model Y’s far lower price. Two years ago it would have been a reasonable comparison. But without a question in my experience, having owned a Model Y, and a Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited, a causing of the Genesis GV60’s, the Genesis kills the Tesla unless you’re in it only for the software. But again, it’s moot given the price difference.
Did Hyundai pay you to put it up against a model Y? Why not the X? Oh, because the X is cheaper, has a tax credit and is still better? LOL
This was an ad, no mention of price, tech, the super charger network - so decietful
"is minimalism cool or are we just saying its cool because its a telsa?". Bingo.
Nobody's fooled that motor trend is backing one of their biggest advertisers which is Hyundai. Wait until those batteries start dying in Hyundai doesn't honor their warranties like they do all the time.
Mental note, don't believe any Motor Trend reviews, I will stick with UA-cam!
Having had a Model Y and now the GV60…you guys are spot on. No comparison. The GV60 has a much better build quality..Beautiful and more comfortable interior, and the face recognition and finger print reader are awesome!! And it even has a crystal ball…
I'm glad to have your opinion. I was hoping to hear from someone who has equity on both sides.
Thanks
After the measly 200 mile range where are you going to charge it reliably? I also understand there’s a class action suit against Hyundai in general because their whole platform has problems with charging and overheating. havent read that that’s been fixed
@@pg6557 luckily, I get about 230 miles, and my daily commute is usually under 50 miles. Have level two charging in my garage. Also, le chargers will be open to this vehicle. It works perfectly for me. And it is such a great car.
Why compare a performance model to a non performance? Not a good "comparison" as everyone in the comments has echoed. Sad we can't even get real unbiased work from motortrend anymore.
I’ll prefer ZEEKR 001 instead these two
👍
Great comparison! Captivating imagery and scenarios!
This is an ad for the GV 60
The genesis is so good looking!
LOL!!! Compare the price and performance per kilowatt and Tesla will blow it away… as it always does… ooo and boomer complaining about lack of apple car play, apparently didn’t look at Tesla infotainment system past the first page lol… Cuz its better, this is not a Ford hahah … ahh paid commercials, well they gotta keep lights on somehow
Infomercial
I'll likely be buying a GV60 soon but I still think that was dreadful.
This is not a valid comparison. Not comparable trim levels, nowhere near the same price. ridiculous video. An advertisement.
😂😂😂😂😂
🚨a “comparison” without comparing prices? Tesla Performance Y is nearly 20k LESS = why they don’t say prices. This was a fake Genesis wins video from the start.
The G is gorgeous. Still a fake comparison tho 🧐
I'm about to buy the GV60 and wanted a fair Tesla comparison before I committed. This was not that. None of the negatives were remotely mentioned.
$70k vs $55k. Both get a $7500 rebate, but you have to lease the Genesis to get it. It's a loophole in the law. "commercial lease".
Cons for the GV60 so far for me are the gimmickly crystal ball that could break, wired only carplay and android auto, tiny frunk, and smaller trunk. Also ugly 21 inch wheels that wreck range and handling, and cost more for tires. It felt much slower than the mach e GT that is slower on paper.
Not exactly a glowing review, haha. Why are you buying it?
wired only car play(genesis) > no car play (tesla)
As a dedicated Apple person, in a Tesla you don’t need CarPlay because it does everything you need without it. and the whole navigation and supercharger aspect of it won’t work in CarPlay and that’s the most important part
I did buy the GV60, and I love it. It wasn't a "glowing review", but this video did that already. I was just pointing out the very minor negative stuff I noticed, because this video didn't. The "much slower than the mustang" ended up being the idiot dealership giving me a test drive on a low battery. Thing was cutting power intentionally.
Agree on the carplay comment about. Never had one thought about hooking my phone up for carplay yet. No reason to. It has nav already and can read a thumb drive for music. Carplay is for budget cars to get that stuff without adding packages.
You totally miss the point. In modern EVs the real luxury is software. Hardware luxury is a relic of the fossil era. In this test there is only one true winner. And it is not the Genesis 😀.
Boomer channel boomer viewpoints
"the real luxury is software" he yelled from his cheaply built, loud road noise, firm seat tesla.
Old guys.....y'know, the ones with some discretionary $ to spend, like switches. Treat your parents nicely....they're the ones writing the will.
Id like to think it's a combination of both.
Plush materials cannot be replaced by software for example.
@@washnote1042 and vice versa.
I like the Genesis
My motto is A.B.A.T. Anything but a Tesla....lol
A paid ad. What a shame Motortrend. You have lost your integrity. Sold your soul. Shame
GV60 is a beautiful car. I'm tired of seeing the ugly Teslas everywhere.
No one cares.
