This video is amazing. Made an intimidating job a breeze because of your excellent and simple instruction. Thanks!
Nice video, simple no BS. Wish more youtubers did videos like this.
Wish everyone would use this as a “how to make a good car repair video “.
Your not windy, you get right to the work and the camera angles are good.
Thanks
You probably dont care but if you are bored like me atm you can watch pretty much all of the new movies on InstaFlixxer. Have been binge watching with my brother recently =)
@Johan Israel definitely, have been using instaflixxer for months myself :D
@Johan Israel Definitely, I've been using InstaFlixxer for since november myself =)
Thanks for the excellent tutorial. I appreciate you recorded the action of you completing each task for visual representation.
love the vid, editing, and explanations. I have to do my 2013 crosstrek and this was the best vid so far. Thanks for posting and keep it up
I'm not a mechanic by any means. I'd just rather fix things myself if I'm able. I just finished replacing the right side CV axle on my 2014 Crosstrek and it works great! The clicking is gone and the car handles just fine. I'm glad you mentioned to mark the places on the struts to keep the alignment straight. That's something I didn't see in other videos.
I hate to imagine what this would have cost if I had taken my car to a garage.
Keep up the good work. Thanks
Excellent tutorial. My Crosstrek axles are clicking.
Good tip on marking the pieces so you can get the same alignment without actually having to do an alignment job. Should be just like it was before you started.
Found your video because I thought I must be doing something wrong. Bottom strut bolt refuses to come out. Nope. Turns out I just need an air hammer. 😜 Thanks for the video!
Lol the voice he made on “what t heck is going on with that stuck bolt?”😂😂😂
Very good tutorial video please make more videos in this car.
Great video! Thank you!
Another awesome vid bro!
Well done and not all the extra fluff some add.
awesome dude 👍
"Ok bye!" Love it
I watched your rear wheel hub replacement on the same color and same year crosstrek like you did in your video and also had one hell of time removing it. Also have this clicking noise on turns start after I hit a pothole and blew my rear tire going about 80mph. Did this solve it for the customer?
Yes. The victim has no clicking noises.
had both mine done a few months ago. between that and the wheel bearings im done with subaru, now the oil problems on the engine.
I get to do rear wheel bearings on this next.
I just did both sides yesterday, the clicking is gone! I did notice a bit of grease squeezed out the top of the tie rod end boots. I wiped it off and took it for a test drive. Checked again and doesn't look like I tore the boots. Would you say a little grease squeezing out is ok? Probably from the extreme angle needed to get the axle out of the hub.
Leave it alone. If it has a grease zerk, it's aftermarket, and you can put a pump or two in it if you want. Replace it if it's loose, or making noise from a loss of grease.
The tie rods are original. They didn't lose a lot of grease so I'll just keep an eye on them. Thanks for the great video!
Hi Man.
My question is that clicking disappeared after replacement? Thanks
Yes. I replaced both axles, and the noise is gone.
What was the brand name for the axle used? And where did the owner purchase it? What was the price?
Just told the victim to mail order them, and buy new ones for the best deal. I have only had problems with remanufactured shafts so far. They are all usually Chinese.
THANK YOU have a BLESSED season.. BTW.. Is this something that all the cars like the one above have trouble with?? My car is exactly like the one you worked on. Just a 2018 version.. My toyota rava 4 had a similar problems when it was 7 years old.. NOT 2 years old bought brand new like the cross trek?? Just wondering..
If you don't mind me asking.. what is a fair ball park $$ cost to get this done? My 2015 crosstrek has the same clicking noise when making right turns. Dealership quoted me $686.73 to replace right front CV axle.
$686.73 I guess. I gave dude the option to buy 2 new ones mail order online, and I put them in. The dealer does not roll like that, and I don't get doctors wages. Apparently, people are not very fair to me.
The cost of one OE axle is just over $400. So that's $286 for labor. I'd say that's fair. However it's better to get an axle at O'Reillys for $130 (lifetime warranty) and do it yourself :) Might as well do both sides at that price!
My Subaru XV AXLE need to change and lot of noise while turning. What is the cost of
Axle?
I usually use money.
Lol. There's a TSB for a $20 spring kit available from Subaru that corrects the "clicking" issue! Original spring is too short and doesn't put enough pressure on the steering assembly worm gear, resulting in annoying, and very elusive noises from the front left......
Thanks! Is there a TSB#, or link I can read?
tie rod nut and lower ball joint then axle nut 20 min and is apart
more importantly, did it fix the clicking? because.. mine is clicking exactly the same... I have new lower control arms + bushings, couldn't get the damn bolt out and didn't want to risk snapping it (and slightly melted the axle boot which has a pinhole now) so i'm returning to the issue a couple of weeks from now with a new axle, a pair of new knuckles, and pinch bolts so i can go absolutely ham on it if required..
Yes the axles cured it.
@@RustBeltAuto Great! I guess I need one more.. hah. Guess I'm doing the whole front end. For a future where we decide that maybe just plowing and sanding the road is good enough and we don't need to dump 40 tones of salt on everything. I hear salt water is horrible for electric cars.. maybe that angle.
What about sound like"gluk2" when driving at the stone road? i'm from malaysia
I don't know what a "gluk2" sounds like.
Sound like something loose.what do you think of that sound?
@@rilekssakan8103 if it is making noise going over bumps, it is probably your sway bar link pins. Other than that, I have no idea.
Any idea why I can't remove my CV? Same car. Everything apart but a pry bar won't cut it. Do I need a CV remover tool? I've tried everything. 160k. CV looks original.
Does the car need to be in neutral or anything I'm missing? Cheers in advance.
Try 2 prybars. Pry evenly on both sides. Turn axel 1/4 turn at a time, and try again, if it doesn't work.
@@RustBeltAuto Thanks a million will try. Car is jacked on one side only. Does it need to be up both sides on the front because I cannot give the axle a 1/4 turn right now it seems
@@goldlion2222 try harder
Weeeelllll? Did it fix the clicking noise?
Yes!
Did this remove clicking?
Yes
Is an alignment required after?
Ok I watched a little more and got my answer
Best answer... It depends.
@@RustBeltAuto I just had the mechanics set things up as good as possible and give it a little test drive. We figured I'm just kicking the inevitable "can" down the road and they said it should be fine. I promised I'd go to them for the alignment when the time comes.
The Canadian accent made the whole video.

Rust Belt Auto, well kinda close? Maybe not lol, learn something new everyday
POS needs an axle already? Dude, I need one of those air hammers, find me a good one on eBay, shoot me a link! I like how you qualified "it's just that easy..... for me" OKAY BYE!
It's a really old heavy duty long barrel air hammer I have had forever.
What do you think of this one on eBay: is.gd/HlnOqn
That's fine. Your comments are showing up in my likely spam folder.
