Kevin Barry We don’t have small children but we keep buying minivans. Odyssey by far is the best out there. SUVs are nice, but not as roomy inside, plus mileage is very different. Our 2018 Odyssey Elites easily gets 30 miles per gallon on highway. Total price is thousands cheaper for comparable equipped SUVs. If perception is not an issue for you, minivan is way more practical than SUVs. Don’t get me wrong, I like SUV too
As for the Pacifica, I sure hate driving around in what is essentially a Boeing 747 VIP. Traveling as a passenger in first class comfort is such a burdon....
You sold me! I just bought a 2020 Odyssey Elite today and traded in my 2016 Pilot EXL. I wish I had test driven an Odyssey years ago! Now I’m a true convert. 🥳
I own an Odyssey 2003 model. Done 145k miles so far. Absolutely reliable and lovely vehicle. All these years , I have changed the timing belt once , in 2018 after 125k miles, changed brake pads thrice , tires twice , wiper blades more than 5 times and other usual stuffs like oil change , air filter change etc .. Other than these maintenance, vehicle is a gem. Still does 0-60mph in under 8secs😁😁😁
It does not have the Acura / Honda Torque Vectoring AWD :)... otherwise, it is a winner. Kidding aside, nothing beat a van on the highway to Disney World.
The Odyssey needs a protective PKG w/bulletproof windows, doors, panelling & a reinforced protective shell over that Alon with a biohazard pkg. Oh & an updated flux capacitor. Can never have too much cow bell either!
Minivans will slowly come back around. Make no mistake, the hype with crossovers will inevitably make them known as the “soccer mom” cars that they have become and people will gravitate to something that not everyone has sitting in their driveway... a loaded out minivan. The automotive world runs in revolutions. If this weren’t the case you wouldn’t see Honda making them. They know it’s only a matter of time.
Why ALL Odysseys don't come with chrome-plated roof rails will always be a mystery to me. I think the promotional images of the Odyssey have no roof rails at all, which just make this thing look like a hearse... or a cargo van. It's weird how much of a step up it feels like to me.
the camera probably a gimmick, but from experience driving older minivans its difficult communicating with third row people without having to raise my voice
not gimmick at all. If you have small children or elderly with you, the cabin camera is very useful, the touch screen can enlarge like cell phone. Very good tool to check on your folks. I have never used cabin talk, just the cabin camera
deadlyapollo $2 dollar mirror makes economic sense, but not sure it works well, especially nighttime or low visibility conditions. Don’t forget infants, they sleep all the time. This cabin camera however works well in darkness. enlarge the screens focus is another thing that any mirror can’t do:)
The camera has pinch-to-zoom so I can see if the rear facing baby in the center row fell asleep or just looking out the window. Or I can zoom out and see who hit who in the third row. The cabin talk is nice. In the lower trims, it only works thru the entertainment head sets. In the elite trim, it also works thru the speakers and you sound like you should be giving pre flight safely details on an airplane. The cabin talk pauses the videos while you talk so you don't have to fight for the kid's attention. To get the heated steering wheel, folding side mirrors, ventilated front seat, wireless phone charger, and 19" wheels you have to pay for the Elite trim. It seems the 2020s are the same as 2019s.
If Honda can put 4WD on this, and figure out how to stow away those second row seats, I think people would buy them, especially for those living in the north and Midwest.
I think they used the Ody as a the guinea pig since its 2wd, was only in 2 trims before and now in all trims. I have a 2020 Ody and am very happy its not the ZF tranny, I'm sure we will see other models with the 10speed honda tranny soon.
Great informative funny review. Wonderful vehicle but who the heck wants to lift out 70 lb second row seats? That is a deal killer. They need the stowaway like Chrysler. Surely they could figure that out. Plus the Sienna comes in AWD.....if they want more of the three row SUV crowd then they should employ currently available tech. Plus Toyota RAV4 prime has plug in hybrid available now with 39 mile electric range and 40 mpg. Why’s doesnt Honda just take the whole market and integrate the tech thats is currently available.? Who wants to lift out and store two huge heavy seats? Had that in my 1994 and 2000 Town and Country vans. No thanks. Hope they are listening....
@@jonnykromps9836 couldn't agree more. don't want experience unscheduled repair shop visit. Pacifica needs to earn the reputation on reliability before I can put it on my shopping list next time
Odyssey is the least reliable minivan. So, no for me. Plus, there was a time when so many minivans were on the road and the antidote for these had been crossovers. Minivans have served their time. These will soon be forgotten.
Nice try. FWD is not gonna satisfy the crossover buying public. Myself included. The Sienna is the only minivan with AWD option. And that thing is so old it belongs in a museum. Oh, did I mention that it costs over 50 grand fully optioned? Yeah... so I went and bought a Palisade Limited for the same price. And ya know, the crossover platform is just an arbitrary form factor in vehicles. No different than sedans. If we lived in an alternate universe where crossover was the "norm" then we would instead be having a conversation about the new trend of why "people love the sedan so much". The sedan is not and was never the purest form of a vehicle. It was borne out of arbitration just like anything else. And finally, how come nobody is saying anything about pickups? They've been trending for decades! What's the deal with pickups and why so many people buy them even if they dont need a bed! Leave crossovers alone! 🤣😆😂
I despise "crossovers" and hate that they're killing the sedan market, but it's fairly obvious why people choose crossovers and family trucks over this thing. the Odyssey vans from 1999 to 2004 model years have Severe Transmission problems.
That's true. Nearly all of Honda and Acura's lineup during that time had some issue related to transmission failures.
Even later than that. Even 2019 models with 9 speed had recalls and engines had gasket failures
