21. The tires wear when we drive it.
22. If you slide a hard object down the side, the paint will scratch.
23. If I close the hood and I leave my hand resting on the radiator, my hand gets smashed.
Good observations, I’ll have to add those to my next video.
🤣🤣🤣
24. Whenever I stick my hand in between the door while it's closing it will open back up. 25. Whenever I run a red light people will start honking at me. 26. Whenever I use my phone while driving the car won't start driving to the destination by itself. 27. My car doesn't read my mind and automatically know where I want to go. 28. When I'm trying to find my car it won't automatically come to me.
29. If I'm immature and impatient, nothing seems to go my way.
30. If I complain too much, everyone tends to ignore me, but please subscribe to my channel and watch more of my rants.
i always take a quick peak at the comments before starting the video, i thought this was an odd comment, now half way in, i get it haha. though that #2 should have been a recall (assuming it wasn't).
Our family has owned 7 Odysseys from 2000 -2019 and they have all been awesome vehicles,
Thanks for watching
SEVEN?! I have a 2006 sienna and we are just now planning on getting a new one!
@ResistanceofNWO hahahahahahha right!? What a clown 🤡
The worst issue is the spear tirer location where you remove all kid or baby & seat before get out in middle of highway & bad wheather!!!
@@troyn936 that’s where it’s located in 2011-2017 I drive a 2017 located in the 2nd row floor storage and I had flat tire so I had to get the spare tire and put it on and drive it to Mavis. Then they had to put a whole new tire on. But yet the odyssey still running.
I've heard a lot of complaints about the elite and touring models. We own a 2018 exl with nav / res (maybe a 1,000 less than you) and we love it. We have no issues with it. The remote start issue is interesting because I can start it in my house, in my work building (I have a window on the 2nd floor and the car is ground level but it starts), even when I'm at the store I can be at the beginning of the isle and the van at the end and she will start for me.
I 100% agree with you on the apps. I wish we could download more. Since I have the exl, I have to use my mobile Hotspot to get our fire stick to work. It's a pain and we just use movies 99% of the time.
I can say the rear vents concerned me because when we bought the van my daughter was a newborn. However even with it set to 70 degrees, she was cool to the touch. (We live in South FL so we get some serious heat) The remote start really helps cool the car off so by the time we got in, everything was cool off.
Hopefully whatever time you have left with the Odyssey, you enjoy it. As of now, our plan is to keep it until the wheels fall off.
Thanks for your positive comment. I wish we would have bought a lower trim like the ex-l, but we will use this until the kids are grown, and hopefully it will be reliable
That's honestly my biggest concern. Growing up my family had a 2002 Odyssey. That thing had almost 300,000 miles on it. (A lot of cross country trips) She was in an accident 6 years ago and they totaled her. If this Odyssey can last as long as that with just basic maintenance, I'll be happy.
When you get a flat be ready to see what the really issue is it doesn’t matter exl or top . Your worst nightmare is when have a tirer flat in middle of a bad storm . Try get spear tirer out. Remove kids , baby, seat before you can get it out.
@@troyn936yeah they started that with the 4th gen (putting it in the floor behind the drivers row). I carry a plug kit and inflator, can fix about 90% of flats on the spot.
Love my 2022 model....so far no complaints!
👍
I still have a 2011 ex-l and been debating upgrading but I think I’ll stick it out. I love my big cup holders in the door, the cool box, etc.
Yeah I think that’s the right move.
The adaptive cruise, backseat camera and automatic wipers have been my favorite features on ours. Odd criticism of the wireless charging - if it works for you anywhere, it works here.
Thanks for watching
Same for us. I have a new 13 max in a case and it works just fine for me.
Thanks for taking the time to post....and willingness to endure the criticism of providing constructive criticism.
Some many things we don't realized or think about until we have lived with them for a while.
I am considering trading for a 2020 or 2021. So this was very helpful.
Thanks for the positive comment!
Normally I don't criticize, but if you are going to run a vacuum plugged into your vehicle, it is ADVISABLE to keep your car running. A battery is a battery is a battery! The vacuum has a motor for crying out loud. Even in your home it sucks current like nobody's business.
Good video. We have a 2018 Elite; however, we are very happy with it. NOTE: We previously had a Dodge Caravan, so anything else is a big step up.
Thanks for watching!!
Glad that I came across your video. Thank you for the information. I was actually about to go out and buy an Elite 2022 model. You have a lot of valid points. I don't think that I'd like the placement of the vents for the 2nd and 3rd row seats either. I personally wouldn't find the vacuum very useful. Glad that they got rid of it for the 2022 model. Now I am rethinking if I even should get the Elite trim after all. I wished that there was a "hotline" or a place (website) where actual users, customers or potential customers can leave our feedback for the manufacturer.
Glad you found this helpful. Thanks for watching
I bought the 2022EXL.. it’s $15,000 less than the elite,I gave up the entertainment system which I have replaced with a small TV behind the headrest with a tuner building and PlayStation hook up.. i don’t care for the vacuum,I use the one at the car wash for free..the only thing I would like is 115 V outlet, but I have a pure sine wave inverter installed..so it’s worth it for me to save $15,000..and get the EXL, I think it’s the best value for the money.some of his complaints are petty some are valid.. deceit remove ability and arrangement don’t bother me..the seat coming out!!or heavy doesn’t bother me,at least it’s removable the Toyota sienna they don’t come out at all.And I don’t care for hybrids just yet.
@@Eelgnotsa wonder if you can retrofit the ventilated seats to an ex-l.
we have a 19 and just put over 20k on it, only valid complaint to me is the 2nd row vents with a backwards facing car seat, but we do pilot seats and take the center out, and slide the seats in 2 clicks for the air to make it to the 1 yr old, never been an issue, no electrical problems, and if you go down 2 trim levels you lose the 10 spd transmission, and having to use a loaner van of the same model for an oil change........it makes a huge difference on driving experience from the 8 speed.
Thanks for sharing your experience
I haven’t had the problem with the vac causing the low battery like you have. I’ve run it for 10-15 minutes and I don’t remember it giving me an issue. I’m sorry to hear yours has been a pain. Definitely agree that running the engine is not desirable because of the exhaust
Thanks for watching, I appreciate your comment!
Thank you for this video.
You have made some great points to aware potential buyers like myself. I am disappointed to see how much consumers pay for the technology which makes driving unsafe and unpleasant.
Were those electrical issues (point # 2) resolved? How much did it cost to have them repaired?
I didn’t have to pay, the car was only 6 months old with 4,000 miles so it was under warranty. Thanks for watching
Wow, I really wanted the elite when we got our 2019, but seems like every thing I wanted in it was worth less! We settled on ex-l so all the things you mentioned weren't a problem. Nice video
Thanks for watching. You made a better purchase than I did. I wish I would have bought the ex-l trim and then put the elite 19” wheels on it.
@@Myksgarage I have a question, other than the looks, is there any benefit to the 19” rims?
@Myksgarage Yeah then you wouldnt get the bluray player, only the exl with res/nav
Damn. I just bought the elite 2022 today. Will keep these things in mind.
It will probably be a good vehicle for you.
I have same model got 50k on it as i drive alot. So far no complain still original breaks. Couple recalls but caused no problems just took it in and they update. Just normal oil changes and tire rotation. Love this vehicle, i think it is best family vehicle that you can buy in the market right now. Not sure why you are having so many problems. I will say next time take it to a different honda dealership, maybe it will help. Good luck
Thanks for watching!
what type of recalls did you have? I am seriously considering this car.
@@alinavanessajimenez2392 rear camera may get condensation inside the housing.
Rear 12 volt power source wire may rub against the sheet metal and short out.
Those were the two recalls I had on my 2019 Elite. Minor issues and easily fixed.
thank you for your honest and practical review.
Thanks
This is what a helpful review looks like. It's not nit-picking. It's showing exactly how well or how poorly executed the features are. I've had the same issues with '14 Odyssey brakes. 2008 Sienna had Poor execution of the adaptive cruise control making it unusable -- why did I pay for it?
Thank you! I’m glad you appreciate an owners perspective!
This video is the definition of nit-picking. He complained that the rear seat monitor camera was too grainy and that there wasn't a fridge.
Opposite to what you felt, I used the LKA and ACC all the time and it’s very helpful especially during road trips. I did got a similar feeling that if other drivers invade your right of way and safe distance, the ACC’s reactions are a bit abrupt. But that’s to keep you safe. And, it’s other driver’s fault because they are not making a safe lane change
Thanks for watching my video!
This review might be a hoax.
👏👏👏 I was looking for the difference between the Elite and Ex-l thank you very much.
I’m glad this helped! Thanks for watching!
I bought the EXL is the best value for the money the only thing I’m missing is 115 V output everything else I have worked around it’s $15,000 less than the elite
Thank You we are shopping for a new minivan and want to compare we know all makes and models have their own issues but some major safety issues we def want to know glad you made this!
I'm glad this was helpful!
For #7 with the MPG, I find that to be an issue with pretty much every car today. You can’t expect wonderful mpg with a heavy vehicle with a large 3.5L V6 engine.
Yes I expect an improvement over the previous generation, which this did not
Well, sadly Honda did make lots more improvements on the 2021 Odyssey, but those improvements are not available to the USA. In Japan, Honda offers the Odyssey Hybrid. I own a Honda Accord Hybrid and it has the best mileage of its class. Since the USA gave Honda a hard time selling hybrids and hybrid plugins, Honda has opted to not offer their best technology to us. Search for the UA-cam video of the 2021 Honda Odyssey Hybrid! We're still going to lease the Odyssey without the Hybrid and hope that Honda can and will offer the hybrid version in the USA soon.
I love my Honda Odyssey I go camping with beds on the back for 2 and lots of storage drives smooth its what you pay for that you get kids love the entertainment center I bought a custom built fully loaded limited edition of Odyssey lots of room mine seats 8 when family want to go out in 1 car its fun. Not a race car you cannot expect mini van to save a lot of gas. Lol. Any mini van is good. Just bought my wife a Mercedes EQS for Christmas she loved it not getting a divorce haha.
Toyota sienna is heading towards right direction. No car is perfect every vehicle has some flaws you just gotta evolve your way around it.
@@Myksgarage well its gained 1000 pounds over the nearly 30 years. if you want them to revert back to the tech from then with a modern drivetrain, m sure you will get in the 30s. odd to have a critique that is listed in the window sticker. they also did it without adding a hybrid tech that will cost you 5 to 10k in 10 years
Can you use voice commands to enter Navi details while driving? Btw, it’s great seeing owner feedback because if a “reviewer” said these things, they would never be invited back to a vehicle launch.
LOL, that was funny to hear. Yeah most reviews are people just reading a list of options or reading Canned PR scripts created by Honda. I bought this vehicle and I regret doing so, had I known these annoyances, I would have bought something else. Thanks for watching! I’m not sure about the voice command on the navigation
Myks Garage thanks for the reply. The Sienna also has a screen lock out while driving feature but you can use your voice.
To be honest I’m not a fan of the touch screen. Try selecting a radio station while on a pothole laden road. Scroll wheels, track pads and voice is preferred. Thanks again.
Very valid complaints, reinforces our opinion to look elsewhere for next minivan. 2010 still serving us well.
Yes, I wish I would have kept my 2014. Good luck!
What about 2015? @@Myksgarage
Are you sure the rain-sensing "sensitivity" adjustment you are mentioning is not the intermittent wiper adjustment? That escalating bar that rolls from thin to thick is usually how you adjust the delay on the wipers when in "intermittent" mode (INT). I am not familiar with a rain-sensing sensitivity adjustment.
I’m sure
Thx for sharing. I wish to see your review of Pacifica and Sienna.
Coming soon!
You nailed it.I leased 12 of these between 2000 and 2021. The brake and tranny issue is on all except 2000 and 2021. The new GLOSSY screen looks terrible with finger prints. The second row seat back on all except 2021, could be folded flat unto the seat. This allows for a sheet of 4 x 8 stored in an angle. Now it does not allow. My lease is up soon and am sorry to say , I may do the Toyota. The only thing going for the Honda,is the handling. My 2000 reached 575000 km before I gave it away.
Thanks for your comment! Best of luck to you!
I have the same issues. I just came out the dealership for a recall on the 3rd row outlet that had to be replaced.
Interesting
Thank you for such a candid review. I know now that I Don’t want an Elite. Great info!
I'm glad this was helpful! The Ex is a much better value!
Thanks for sharing these issues. I decided to look into the 2023 Odyssey Sport trim instead of getting the Touring.
That's a better value!!
Sport trim is way to go u wont really be upset with it in own one with white color n black interior
Thank you, good points to pay attention to
Thanks for watching
This was very helpful.
Thanks for watching
You mentioned that you have ceramic windows film. How is it working out in the way of what its supposed to do.
Do you feel its worth their cost after the initial installation?
Are ALL the windows ceramic filmed rto include the sunroof?
I ask because I live in Southern California, our 02 accord is in need of the old tint removed. I'm considering 70% on the front windshield and both front door windows. And ceramic limotint on the two back door windows and rear window glass. We just had the AC serviced I was told Ceramic window film would greatly benefit the AC in the car. I look forward to your input thank you in advance.
I’m not sure how it would be without it. The A/C in this van sucks to begin with, but I’m sure the window film is helping reduce the heat
I got ceramic tints in my Accord. Yes, they are much better. Well worth the extra money.
Thanx for helping us make decision !!
👍
I was considering buying the elite but a voice inside me kept saying you’re paying $10,000 for a DVD player and should really get the EX or the EXL trim and your video has confirmed my suspicions. Thank you for posting.
I think you're on the right track! Elite is a waste
Great to watch your review before buying Touring trim, quite similar to Elite.
Thanks for watching!
@@Myksgarage I’m looking at EX trim with optional features which is better for me. I don’t like leather smell when it’s getting old or in hot weather. I guess the higher tech in the car, the more problems with electrical issues.
I think the adaptive cruise control having farther distance is a good thing because some of us drive way too close. This is a family vehicle so staying far away from the person ahead of us only keeps us and our family safer.
Good point
Defensive driving courses teach 3 second rule. Pick out some stationary object on side of road beside car ahead of you. Count 3 seconds. If you are past that object by 3. You are too close. Really has helped and become a normal habit. Can pretty much judge that distance without counting as habit develops. Saved my bacon couple times in the last 20 years.
We bought 2021 Odyssey Touring model. So far we have driven about 14k miles and have not experienced any problems yet. It’s a good vehicle with many safety features.
Thanks for watching
hi hows your Honda odyssey ? do you still have a transmission problem ? like driving 45 mph then going to complete stop? im looking to buy honda odyssey this week EXL 2021 , sense Sienna overpriced (((( or kia carnival limited stock
I sold mine back in 2021, thankfully Covid drove prices up so I could get out of it, it only had like 20k miles and after dealer fixed the electrical issue it was fine after that
Some time after you uploaded this video but do you still have this car? (checked out your channel and I see content for other cars so I'm guessing no?) Curious just to see if you still have it or got rid of it for one of the other cars.
Recently got a 2023 and since I live outside the US, we only get 2 trims, and the "touring" trim is the lowest one and it comes with most of these features except for: HondaVac (discontinued due to ShopVac closing during pandemic), Blindspot monitoring (chip shortage), auto wipers and heated (but still ventilated) seats, a plus though is that Auto stop/start is abscent (Mexican units don't get it....I see not having it as a feature lol).
LKAS and adaptive cruise do work better, we just went on a roadtrip not 2 weeks ago and if anything I wanted the car to be a bit more decisive when pulling out from following a slow car, I was not in eco mode, so current system heard your complaints and the closest setting to follow was closer than what you showed here. Fuel economy was around 25mpg, and this still with waiting in line for some 30-40 mins.
We have mixed feelings regarding the "are we there yet" feature our young kids do get a kick out of it, but it would sure be nice if it was also available via using Google/Apple maps from carplay. We live in the desert so we are a bit curious as to how it's going to fare with summertime heat, and whatever car we where going to get a must have for us is some nice ceramic tint on all windows, so hoping that helps, we usually don't run it under 70°F though purely because that's what we're used to.
Appreciate this video. I think each of the few remaining minivans have their own thing going for it and if you really value one you'll end up choosing it and having to deal with compromises: Sienna: MPG and or AWD, Gas Pacifica: Stow and go (and also AWD), PHEV Pacifica: Better MPG but still have a v6, Carnival: Latest tech, Honda: only choice if you want the upper trim with seating for 8/trying to be Goldilocks and or Jack of all trades feature wise. We where originally going to get the Sienna, but those are just impossible to find right now.
I sold it as soon as the pandemic hit, and I was able to get my money out of it thankfully
@@Myksgarage Cool, yeah that was a heck of a time for selling cars/houses.
Game changer for us. We were considering a newer Honda Odyssey but this makes me think twice...more than twice.
Thanks for watching, good luck in your search!
We were too. Not sure we will go ahead with it. Love the Odessey but ...........
Get a Chrysler Pacifica!
We just purchased a 2023 model, a few weeks ago...... we are FREAKING OUT after watching this!
@@supportourtroops1513 2023 is way better than earlier once.. just got mine too sport trim
Thanks for the video
👍
I’m sticking with our 2016 Elite
I think that is a wise choice
i still have the 2012 version :) it has a hge tv though-
Is a 2015 ex-l a good choice?
I have the 2019 Odyssey EX and I haven't had issues with the brakes or transmission yet. This video does make me concerned about the brakes since I have only put less than 10K miles on mine's. I do want to also point out that the Odyssey uses a GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) engine with VCM (cylinder deactivation). I've read that older Honda VCM engines had issues. Also, I heard that GDI engines are susceptible to carbon buildup on intake valves. I may need to look into installing an oil catch can but I'm not sure yet if this would void any warranties or be detrimental in any other way. If anyone knows about this, please reply.
As for the transmission shifting to park unexpectedly, there has been a recall issued for the 10 speed which the Elite trim does have. The recall fix is to have the transmission shift to neutral rather than park if TCU reboots. NHTSA RECALL NUMBER:19V-299. As for the EX trim in the one I have, the 9 speed ZF transmission is used instead. I personally don't like how it shifts and reviewers have noted this.
I'm glad I didn't waste money on the higher trims with the useless features. In fact, for the rear seat entertainment setup for my rear passengers, I just bought tablet holders (tinyurl.com/yaxkoavy) and attached them to the headrests of the front seats. I agree with point on the bad placement of the AC vents, I believe it would be better on the ceiling. I also feel that the rear AC vents are not that strong.
Personally, I don't regret my purchase decision since safety was the priority. The IIHS gives the current gen Odyssey a Top Safety Pick rating. On the other hand, the current gen Toyota Sienna is still on a decade old platform. I believe the upcoming Sienna might be worth considering since I believe it's likely to do well in IIHS testing. Also, Toyota didn't offer Android Auto at the time and driver assist features came at a higher price premium than on the Odyssey. Though in Toyota's favor, their Sienna is probably more reliable especially with their dual injector PFI GDI engine design that is resistant to intake valve buildup.
Thanks for watching and for the well thought out and detailed comment. I think the odyssey is still a good choice and a better value in the lower trims, the Elite trim is a waste. Thanks
I have Honda Accord V6 2012 with VCM which will switch from 6 to 3 cylinders. After 10K, I have to replace both catalytic converters as they were fouled up. Usually they last forever. The issue is the cylinder rings of the back three cylinder leaks and allow engine oil burns thru the exhaust pipe and you will lose the engine oil 1 qt after 2K miles. Honda knows that and had a recall. After the fix, no oil consumption but I still paid 2K to replace the catalytic converter.
The rain sensing wipers and wireless charges are a few of the features Honda is charging for upgrading the the Touring trim (here in Canada), an almost $7000 premium over the next lower trim. That these don't work as intended is a real bummer. The electrical issues are especially troubling and echoes similar complaints from Consumers Reports on this car.
Yeah it’s not worth the upgrade cost. Stick with the lower trim levels.
Awesome review. Have a 2018 touring and trading it in for a 2022 Touring this weekend. All those issues are facts. They have now deleted alot of features so you pay 6k for grey 19" wheels and AC seats. Went from silver/mocha to a white pearl/beige.
Thanks for watching! what’s new on the 2022?
@@Myksgarage the elite comes with piping on the seats and grey 19s. They did away with the vac, cool box. Only real difference is the cooled seats and the nicer 19s. Now even the touring has 19s so the 2 models are almost identical in features but cost about 6k more. They did all get an upgraded 10spd trans. Did like 8 recalls on it last week. Wife said screw it just get a new one. She loved your video. Always hated that she had to be damn near next to the car to auto start it. While my Ram 2500 Laramie could be started from across the parking lot and could hear the horn to let you know it was one.
Thanks for the response. Good to hear about the latest model, doesn’t sound like much has changed. Good luck to you!
@@minituck04 i would gladly pay 6k to have cold air blowing up my butt crack on hot days. Is that standard on both touring and elite?
Thanks for your great video! You answered a lot of questions I had. Thanks again!!
Thanks for watching, I’m glad this helped!
@@Myksgaragewould you tell me which one should I buy odyssey or pilot?
Correct on the brake pads. I thought I needed rotors but it was just the pads. Sounded and felt horrible. Changed the pads that needed to be changed and it was driving great again. These Honda’s are very sensitive to worn out brakes.
Yeah I’ve had that problem with the last 2 generations of Odyssey’s
I think the rotors are undersized also...they get hot and the rotors have to perfectly torqued...looks like I am saving for Grand Highlander....
Hi do you think the faulty gear selector issue is corrected for the 2022 model ? Thanks
I would hope so. It turns out it was a loose cable at the fuse block
No longer getting a Honda van. Thanks for honest review
Thanks for watching, I hope this gave you some insights into this van
Good informative Vido
Thanks for watching!
im glad i watched ur video, i have a ,2012 elite, offwhite, and I feel likes it looks better and I love/my kids the dual screen in the middle. I though about upgrading but with less than 100k , not even worth thinking about it
Exactly, I wished I would have kept my 2014 instead!
Thanks, I was in the dealership and your video came up. I asked on these issues and fun fact nothing changed in the 2023. We left and saved that 50k going to Toyota now.
Interesting, thanks for watching
The v6 hasn’t changed since 94 lol and they put it in a 5000lb vehicle we just bought a 2021 odyssey touring we love it
Yeah the engine needs to be updated
I’m also curious what happened to your pbs kids app. I’ve read that some updates have removed it for some people. My 2019 still has the pbs app and is fully updated to my knowledge. Not that it really matters, as the onboard is kind of a joke and you’re much better off using an hdmi device like you did.
Yeah we never used the onboard apps, so not sure if it’s still there. streaming Netflix and Disney+ from the FireCube has been our best bet
We have a Touring model, and there are NO SPEAKERS in the rear row in any models except Elite. Absolutely mind blowing. My kids in the back row cannot hear a movie playing unless we turn up the sound full blast.
Interesting, I wasn’t aware of that. That sounds frustrating! Thanks for sharing
@@Myksgarage I truly couldn’t believe it. Our 2005 EX was better for listening to music. So weird.
Im thinking about getting 2018 odyssey ex trim. Should i buy it or get the sienna instead?
Ex trim is a good value. Elite and touring are a waste
I heard the 9 speed vs 10 speed that the 10 speed had better response.
How reliable is the transmission ? We have doubts because of a 2003 with 2 transmission fails
Well it's a new 10speed for this model year, I wouldn't have much faith in the transmission, long-term
We went on a big road trip with our 2020 honda odyssey an we got 32 MPG with the A/C on. The worst fuel economy we got with the van is 28mpg the best is 36 mpg. We did notice the same thing that the back didn't have good air flow with the Vents.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
AC is the worst
We live in Florida and we wish the a/c vents were better positioned. It takes a long time to cool the car down in the summer. a/c worked much better in our 2006 Odyssey.
Yeah that’s a big short coming of this Van....
Ah yes, thank your government for this...just like the stupid auto stop/start. They require R1234YF instead of R134a. It's an inferior refrigerant...oh, and bonus- it's corrosive. You should see all the Civics with A/C issues. It's nuts.
My comments will not be to critize but to try to help. I’ve had a 2018 Odyssey and currently have a 2021, both Elite Touring. Concerning auto wipers, the 2018 had problems from the day I got i. You could see something out of place behind the rear view mirror, as if it had not been assembled properly. the dealer worked on it several times but was only able to improve it not completely fix it. The 2021 has no problems and works as expected - so I don’t feel it’s a design problem. Regarding the cruise control, it works flawlessly on mine. Regarding the start/stop problem I find that when the engine stops (I occasionally forget to turn it off) just releasing the brake or the slightest tug to turn the steering wheel will immediately restart the engine. I keep it turned off to reduce starter wear. I have never experienced an engine stop while moving. Maybe your problems are holdovers from your battery cable problem? Concerning the tailgate hands free I learned to wave my foot from one one side to the other (about 1 foot) under the sensor. Works every time and operates no slower than using the key fob or the dot button. I have had zero brake problems and have been impressed with how quickly it can stop for such a heavy vehicle. Concerning the vac - that’s a gimmic feature. I’ve used it a couple of times in emergencies. Usually I get my big shop vac out or use the one at the carwash. Regarding th fold down seats, I simply fold them down for long items. They are heavy though. My DIY days are behind me so I don’t haul a lot these days. Hope some of this helps you. I have also owned a 2915 which didn’t’ t have the auto/stop or adaptive cruise or the automatic wipers. No problems with it - my daughter still driving it. The only issue I’ve had with them is the wipers on the 2918. Great cars for my family.
Thanks for sharing!
I have the 2020 Odessey Elite and I agree with all of your points! I had a 2006 and swore by Honda. This one I hate and does not compare to my older model.
That’s for sharing your experience. I felt the same way. Luckily i was able to sell mine in April for a pretty good price. Lesson learned
Hello I agree. I purchased a 2019 Odyssey Elite, my 3rd Odyssey I had a 2016 Odyssey Touring, I HATE the 2019. I have had it in the shop 4xs for the poping and static noise with the audio and Bluetooth. I was told it is a known issue and Honda has a fix with harness replacement. Well, the fix does not work. Also upset that the middle seats do not have a back pocket. So my kids in the 3rd row do not have anywhere to put the headphones. Very disappointed with the Odyssey.
Loved my 2005 with 330k miles when it got wrecked. Bought a 2011 "lightning". Hate it with a passion. An "Oldsmobile" float-boat, plus the steering is horrendous! The other day i had a car come suddenly into my lane-- almost lost control over-correcting. Honda has truly lost its way. Also had a 2000 Odyssey -- now that was a true sports car.
I had a 2000 and 2005. My 2011 "lightening bolt" is a float boat with body roll and horrendous steering feel. Just like my Father's 1980 Oldsmobile. Honda has truly lost its way.
I love my van and don't have a problem with most the things that here listed. The vacuum doesn't have enough power but really that's the only think I don't love.
Thanks for sharing your experience!
Some valid complaints here, and some bs. Brakes are fine on mine, 65k and no pad changes or shaky brakes. I don't think there is a pad/rotor quality issue, at least not for all vans. Maybe you got a bad set? The vacuum is gimmicky, not real strong suction, by mine has run for 10-15 mintues with no battery warnings. You might want to check your battery. My lift gate doesn't get hung up either, but the foot wave thing doesn't work great. You missed the two biggest issues with these vans: 1. - can't unlock or lock doors or open/close doors with the remote at all when the vehicle is running. 2. - the radio/infotainment system has had numerous bugs and hangs up and won't reset without a keyboard or yanking the battery terminal off for a minute. Overall I like our van, but I'm definitely disappointed in the usability of some of the features. That being said, Chrysler products are pieces of junk, so there was no way we were buying a Pacifica.
Yeah I agree with your comments. I was lucky enough to sell this month. I won’t buy another Honda

Thanks for watching!
What about the reliability ? like transmission and engine? i`ve heard bad stuff about transmission failures.
Yeah I've heard that as well
The elite has the premium audio with 11 speakers. Do you think it’s an exceptionally good sounding audio system?
I don’t even notice, Because most of the time we have the DVD movie playing over the speakers with some annoying kids movie....
I wonder if you've experienced electrical/popping noise from the speakers - with or without the audio system on. I have a 2020 Elite and I've been experiencing that noise almost every time I drive. I have 7,500 miles on it, it's going in for an oil change this weekend, I'll have the dealer's service department take a second look. I have no other complaints.
We haven’t experienced that popping sound. I wonder what could be causing it.
@@Myksgarage As with just about anything that goes wrong, I googled it and found others have complained about the issue with various other Honda models. The service department at my local Honda dealer tells me that they have had a few other complaints about this electrical/popping noise. They've had to replace the entire head-unit and various other components (that I'm not familiar with.) But glad to hear this isn't one of your issues with your Odyssey.
UPDATE: The dealer's service department has replaced the wiring harness connecting (apparently) all or at least many of the audio components. I picked up the Odyssey today; so far, so popping noise.
I’ve heard that the cause of this is the fiber optic wiring being bent in the car
I was having this issue to no avail. And come to find out either the wire harness or just one connector on the back of the dvd player. My middle console entertainment system is completely black/off now. Getting it fixed this week hopefully. But that's after I did the research for my service center 🙄
Great video. We have a 2018 Elite and will be upgrading to a 2022 Touring. I am experiencing brake shudder at 20,000 miles as well. Side note - the start/stop feature is federally mandated. All new cars must have it. Thanks again government!!
The Start/Stop feature is very annoying. Is the 2022 the same generation as your 2018? What has changed?
@@Myksgarage Same generation. Not a lot has changed, front end is slightly different. Vacuum isn't an option anymore as they can't source the parts. Other than that, it's pretty much the same. I decided to move down to the Touring as the Elite features aren't worth the extra money and I didn't use any of them.
I have '21 Elite. I disagree on couple of things:
1. Kick tailgate works great and reliably for me. Love it and use it almost every day.
2. Vacuum. I have both sliding doors open for cleaning, van out of garage and no passengers around. So had no issues with exhaust.
On the other hand I completely agree about limited availability of useful applications. They could have made a huge difference by allowing Netflix or other apps.
Thanks for sharing
These issues make it seem like your vehicle is a lemon... we’re thinking of trading our 2016 touring for a 2021 EX-L/Touring on lease (to save money, almost $300 a month!) I hope you get these issues figured out/compensation from Honda!
Thanks for watching, it sounds like that lease deal is pretty good.
So hard to know everything about a vehicle with one test drive.. Good video
Thanks!
I wish there were mor reviews like this
Thank you!
Excellent review and I will keep my 2004 Odyssey, just because the backseat vents.
Yeah I wish I would have just kept my 2014.
Thank you for your great review. This is the type of review I want, so I make a wise decision. Thank you
Exactly! Things I wish i would have known.
1. Checked, my rotors were warped at 20 thousand km, dealer replaced them under warranty
2. Checked, mine had a "transmission system error" message, loud banging sound when shifting gears occasionally
Sounds about right
You can often buy aftermarket solutions to turn the auto stop off permanently.
Yeah I’ve seen those solutions. Thanks for watching
Thank you! Great info! I think I will wait for Sienna 2021........😅😅😅
Good idea, the new Sienna will be interesting
The AC does struggle and does not cool our van in Texas. Unfortunately we’re stuck with it unless we want to pay 1000 a month for something else.
Yeah that was a big problem for us as well
What video has the Netflix streaming info? I can’t find it. I am interested in the hdmi set up you had.
Use an Apple TV or an Amazon fire stick
@@Myksgarage what was up with your hdmi? It look like just wires. Can you send me the link to the video you talk about the set up?
Your car went from Drive to Park at 45mph 20 times??? Holy gear grind!
Yeah about 20 times, and it lost power when it did that!!
I’ve read it a recall issues with several years and trim models. I bought ours 2 days ago from Vacaville Honda and it’s a 2018. Had it one day and paint chipping off front bumper as it was wrecked but not reported to Carfax. The underside is gouged and muffler crushed. Missing plastic push pin screws to hold bumper to trim and overspray on headlights, side marker lights and overspray on bottom of car. I traded in my car with ALL3 keys and remotes and this came with one. Didn’t tell me until deal was done and signed. Plus it was NOT certified pre owned as it’s been abused. Took one day at my house to figure this out. They lied and said 70,000 miles is cutoff but every Honda website states 80,000 is cutoff for certified pre owned. I was passed around like a slut in a whore house from one salesman to another then to another just to distract me from looking at vehicle closely. I have my salesperson license but can’t do it as I have morals and integrity. They are called stealerships not dealerships. I could continue as the lane departure changes lanes and I’m pulling hard on the wheel to correct this. Even though I’m 100% in the middle of my lane. I have Class B and motorcycle license for close to 40 years now.
Thank you very much
👍
My complaints to add to yours: It doesn't have enough ambient lighting at night so the kids can't see in the dark (our Chrysler T&C had awesome interior lighting). I hate the button to open/close the door for the sliding door (Instead of having to hit the top of the button or the bottom of the button, you should just have one button to hit to open/close the door instead of having to look at the button every time and read it to see if you mash the top of it or the bottom of it). Also, I hate that the sliding doors stop for like 5 seconds if you accidentally hit the button twice or hit it in the middle of it closing/opening (It makes you wait the whole 5 seconds before you can hit the button again to close/open it which is very difficult during school drop off). It doesn't have an option for 2nd row heated seats like the Chrysler. ...These are just off the top of my head. I know I have more.
Thanks for sharing your experience!
I'm glad I didn't get an Elite. I wrote a very bad evaluation on Edmonds last year about my 2019 EX.
I had a 2016 which I loved, I thought the 2019 would be better with the 9spd transmission. Mileage is great features suck. You must be short. My 2016 EX I could open the rear door and walk under it, the 2019 I hit my head and have to duck to walk under the tailgate.
Great video. Honda is losing ground.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
I had a 2014 Elite, LOVED it! Definitely miss the cool box!! I also don't like where the air vents are located in the back rows. Weird placement.
Yeah we loved our 2014 as well, this 2019 was a step back for Honda
2019 Honda Odyssey Elite, 18,541 miles
Have you had issues with yours?
Oh yeah the gas mileage does suck!!19 city 26 highway is terrible in 2022 however it’s a proven V6 that powers a lot of Acura products the only issue was the transmission and this is a new 10 speed unit hope it holds up..I only use odyssey when I need the room I drive my other car to run short trips alone,it burns gas like crazy
Yeah that new transmission gave us problems when it shifted from drive to park while driving multiple times
Seem like Honda Odyssey has the brake problem like you said. I had 2009 Hondao Odyssey, changed the brake rotor several time, but still got this problem from the first few years until now. I just bought 2024 Honda Odyssey, I hope I don't have the Electrical problem like you said...They should RECALL this problem.
Yeah this should be a recall, thanks for watching!
My biggest complaint is road noise. I'm considering selling my 2020 for that reason only, though it could be a wee bit more comfortable.
Yeah I recall having some road noise aswell
Concur with everything listed, but you forgot a big one. When the middle seat is left folded forward (common with kids) - the seat slides back and forth until it's physically locked back in place. This is super annoying when you are driving the van alone and can't reach all the way back to manually push it back into place. Ugh.
Yeah that is annoying, I totally forgot about that
There is something also over the engine battery if one needs to utilize jumper cables like in winter not easy to acces the part he did not mention would make 19 issues.
The exhaust could be rerouted with a custom to the side to avoid the exhaust of CO into the cabin but why purchase problems to begin with.
I agree don't like the auto switch off button so close as one could even accidently push it also but seems it goes on at will that is dangerous with family in mind.
The single screen dispaly being over cluttered with uselss info some of no use.
They would have learned from older generation of cars and Honda seem better without the distractions and gimmicks. What is the point of brake sensors if brakes are faulty or don't work there seems hardly any mileage on the new vehicle. I like Honda alot but this seems like a lemon for the price. So glad to someone posted an honest review. So much push for electric cars but seems they are alot of things need to be rethought in design.
Thanks for your comment! You make some great points
Thanks, I was looking to buy one but heard about transmission problem. Both 8 and 9 speeds. Is yours the 10 speed Honda made ?. I heard good thing about the Sienna but the body is old and I am waiting to see the new style. Also it is available with 4 WD - I don't need it as I have Subaru XV.
Yeah mine is the 10 speed transmission, I still think this is the best minivan you can get, it just has some quirks
have owned an ex, ex-l,touring and elite. the elite is my favorite for silence and ride quality. had the brake issue on four models which were all lease returns..the cure on the elite was change the fluid on a regular basis.
Thanks for sharing your experience
I have a 2021 odyssey touring. . . and it's been nothing but trouble. Mine shifts into neutral and sport, and it started itself in the service drive at Honda and they aren't admitting there's any trouble. Shifting into Park while driving at 45???? I would have lemon lawed that thing fast. That's a huge safety concern! Problem is, getting American Honda to care and actually take responsibility.
Yeah it has been crazy dealing with this, Honda NA hasn’t been much help either! I’m glad I was able to sell it a few months ago
Hi, could you tell me about the fuel consumption, please
It gets slightly worse than the EPA states Mpg of 19 city and 28 highway
We had a 2008 EX-L, it was great until a red light runner totaled it in 2014. We replaced it with a 2014 EX-L. It was great until it also was totaled by another red light runner just recently. It had 100k miles and was great. Replacing it with a 2023 EX-L. The Odyssey gets equal or better mileage than any other similar vehicle not a hybrid, but drives much better. We never used the cool box so not worried about that. Rear entertainment is a waste in any vehicle, get a couple iPads for far less that will be much more versatile. I don’t understand why anyone pays for Rear entertainment post the introduction of the iPad a decade or so ago. The only App needed in the car is Apple CarPlay. How many USB ports do you really need in the back seats. If you really need more than two just buy a cheap portable battery. I never found the seats hard to take out. Just lift up and out to the side in the garage. How often do you go to Home Depot to by ply wood and that decision took you off guard? The vacuum is pretty silly, not sure why anyone would want one in their car. I do agree that the rear vents were better overhead though and the EX-L is a better buy than the Elite or Touring.
Thanks for sharing your experience
2023 EX-L is a great van. We bought in 2019 and avoided the lower trims only because they had the problematic German ZF 9 speed transmission. Honda finally stopped using it and all Odyssey trims get the Honda built 10 speed transmission.
How is the odyssey thus far? Im looking at a 23/24 model as well.
Wow ken boy having a bad day here. Sorry for your losses my guy.
🤷
Well all the technical issues you have with the 2019 Honda Odyssey is so messed up especially when it is brand new.😮
I know, it's been frustrating
I usually stick a magnetic thing on the screen to hold my phone when i need navigation
The Apple car play + google maps works great.
Yeah that’s a better way I agree
3. Wireless Charging pad doesn't charge through a case. That's a issue with the case not the pad. There are cases that specifically advertise they work with wireless charging, I have a civic with that same charging unit and it charges my phone fine with a case.
Sometimes, our phones don't charge wirelessly if the phone is not flushed against the charger. Whether we had a case on the phone or not, but having a case on it requires better placement on the charger.
Good point, but if the wireless charger doesn’t work for my situation, it provides no value and therefore a useless feature
@@Myksgarage this comment is from a year ago, why are u commenting now, you had the option to check out the features before you bought, so can't really complain after you bought it.
