I worked in the '80s music industry with lots of big named bands. I've also followed Darren from the beginning....THE beginning. Needless to say I have heard many great performances from him and the talented people around him. I never thought that I would say this and I've even made fun of people that have made this comment, but this is the first cover I have ever heard that I honestly believe is better than the original to my ears. Well done Darren and the entire group because the sound was a team effort. Darren, your vocals were unbelievably good. I felt it!

The performances on this one take are perfect by all . Listen to the vocal work . My God Melissa's voice took this to another place . The songs you mention were all produced by top industry producers and musicians in studios . The performance here is phenomenal . Darren and the band f##king nailed it 110 % and thats coming from a big Meat loaf , Steinman , Rundgren Fan . I have listened to it around six times already . In my opinion this song is better than any of the songs you mentioned and from one of the biggest selling albums of all time .

What I’ve always appreciated about Darren is that he mixes around his musicians/singers and has not fallen into the trap of the ‘boys’ club..
I LOVE this song. But fuc* me, the lead vocalist on the Piano, Darren Mullan, deserves a Gold Medal for his rendition of this absolute blinder of a song. Perfect Tone, Perfect Pitch, just PERFECT! This rendition gave me Goose Bumps!

I do not agree, sorry. Meatloaf had an intensity, authenticity, immediacy, a depth of emotion that is not present in this version.

Darren, I’ve watched this video quite a few times since you guys put it out. It never gets old. It just brings me back to my youth. Your voice and the backing vocals are gorgeous. Meatloaf probably only sounded this good when he recorded this and trust me, I’m not knocking down Meatloaf. Thank you for this beautiful rendition.

In his later years, Michael (Meat Loaf) lost a lot of his hearing and although his voice was stillo strong, could not 'hear' when he was in tune as much as when he was younger. When you can't hear, you can't sing in tune. Still a legend in my opinion 🤘🏼

The lead singer / pianist sounds like Meatloaf did in his prime (late 1970s). Meatloaf’s vocals are rangey and powerful - not easy to sing - but this singer made it sound easy. That’s talent.
Michael Lee Aday is smiling big time. What a Friday night treat to watch this one. Damn Darren, what a soulful delivery....OMG WOW WOW WOW! Love the location, acoustic piano & guitar and flawless background vocals (bass and drums are perfect too!). What an incredible thing to mix a live performance down to a studio quality recording that ANY artist would be proud to release. BRAVO!

Such power in the vocals, been a life long meatloaf fan and was incredibly saddened by his passing in 2022. As one of his most famous tracks put it - not a dry eye in the house!

I am literally (nearly) lost for words. Finding it hard to write with this playing for the 4th time. You've always had high standards Darren, but this is next level. Such an emotional song, you and the gang gave it everything. The grand piano suits a grand song. I'm sure you decided the basement wasn't the right setting for this masterpiece. Mel and Cam's vocals just add the right touch to your performance. Mario and Gary sweeten the deal. This deserves world-wide recognition. Thank-you for bringing this to us, from an emotional Matty 🤟

This cover evokes an emotional response in me that the original doesn't. Meatloaf's performances are a bit camp, a touch extra, so I don't take them seriously. However, this cover is absolutely heartbreaking.
I agree, this one was extra special in every way. I vote for a few more ballads with Darren on lead vocal. Beth from KISS is one that immediately comes to mind.

Jimmy Johnson's rendition of this Meat Loaf classic many years ago performed on the Don Immus show was the best I had ever heard. However, Darren's version and the outstanding backup vocals and post production mix makes this even better. I would not have thought that Darren's voice would sound so much like Meat Loaf. My new favorite.

I've loved this song since I was a young boy, but it wasn't until I was older that I really understood what it was about. Meatloaf's voice has always captivated me and Darren, you channeled him like I've never heard before. This was absolutely brilliant!
You made it your own.
I don't think a lot of people realize how difficult it is to not just cover a song, but to truly represent the original artist's delivery. Harder still is to accomplish live what the original artist did over several hours or days in a studio.
This is, without doubt, one of the best and most accurate covers I've ever heard. Every tonal inflection, every part covered to perfection.
I've played professionally for 28 years and had some great bands, but nothing even close to this. What a pleasure to listen to.

@engine22emt Interesting. I never really heard that, but I also can't find anything on it in terms of articles or studio stories. What I will say is that, like many artists I've seen, Meatloaf kind of stunk live. It was a great stage show, but the quality of his vocals was awful. The same was true when I saw CSN, Jack Bruce, The Outfield, and many others. Loved their studio work and performed their songs with bands for years. Saw them live and thought, "I've never been so disappointed! If this band was in a club we walked into, I'd walk back out."
That's why I'm always so in awe of a band like this who covers material that isn't theirs and still does the song so well.
Saw Leonidas and Friends live (phenomenon Chicago tribute band) and they are a good live as they are in the studio. Was blown away.

Today I commend you as highly as I can for your performance. You sang a brilliant Meatloaf song superbly.

Quite frankly, Meatloaf’s classic song was one of those that most folks thought could never be covered with anything like the musical magic that it deserves… We were wrong. The outdoor setting, Grand piano and Darren’s voice blend perfectly with the backing vocals and perfect playing by the band - it’s as emotionally moving as the original, which is impressive In itself..! Bravo.

I don’t find this vocal at all as emotional as the original. Meatloaf had more intensity, authenticity, pain and loss in his voice than almost any singer I’ve heard. This cover is beautifully rendered, but Darren isn’t Meatloaf.

The real deal. I'm 65 . Meatloaf was my ERA. TRUTH TIME. You are better then meatloaf. Now you might ask why or how. When meatloaf performed live you often got iffy vocals. You just pulled off a studio recording quality of 2 out of 3 ain't bad. RESPECT TO ALL.

I talked with Meatloaf several times on messenger in the past, he had endless struggles, but never gave up. This song personifies his greatness as person who took risks in an uncharted territory. The searing emotion in Darren’s vocal delivery may well be explained by this being recorded during the middle of the drawnout legal saga. It’s only justice that he’s now been able to post this here to share with a much wider audience since his new channel has launched. The backing vocals and musicianship are always first class, and lift this already poignant track higher, a fitting tribute to commemorate the departure of Meat Loaf to the rock and roll dream beyond. Darren was always known to me as a singer first, and I’m still hoping he might one day do the track that he emotionally destroyed me with when he did a karaoke version of it years ago. He knows what it is!! Either way, he will undoubtedly continue to be exceptional with every performance he brings to his audience. Great singers impress with technical ability and performance. Exceptional singers move their audience and touch them emotionally.

@@sharonedeau Wow, I knew they split, but had no idea the problems. After the split, HSCC sounded terrible, better now, but Darren was the juice behind that group. So Glad he landed on his feet and for the better.

I usually watch every week and enjoy and like but never comment, everyone usually says what I would say anyway but, I can't not add a comment to this, it was just next level and I didn't think there could be a higher level than you usually perform. Darren has a fantastic voice but this just blew me away, perfect delivery and clarity, powerful, warm, full of emotion and sentiment, and with the harmonies just stunning, the mix, the video, everything you guys and gals do it so professional, by far my favourite cover band on youtube.
