THE DEPTH ADJUST IS METAL! Bridge City stated it is 6061 aluminum alloy with an oxidized coating.
Bridge City planes have great appearances. Your review about their shortcomings are well known. Veritas and Lie Nelson are still in my opinion are the way to go. My Veritas low angle Jack plane does 90 % of my work.
Well now I have to ask lol what does the other 10%?
@@BatCaveCreationsblock plane? 😁
This is a nice looking plane. Im kind of planed out, i haven't bought any lately but always looking online for an oddball or rare one. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and opinion on this one.👍
Teach me your ways!! I'm still always drooling over and keeping an eye out for planes hahaha
I thought the Bridge City Planes looked really nice, but for the price I could never justify them, even at $429 - especially now that they are no longer manufactured in the USA. I'm sure they are great quality, but that's a non-starter for me. Good review and thanks for sharing your thoughts!
If only they put more effort on function of this plane than styling.
This plane is state of the art. Art is a part of my motivation. In a few years we have to look to China and India to find the true valuable high tech art.
Im a professional woodworker (cabinets, stairs, furniture, Millwork). I use a power plane, belt sander, jointer, thickness planer, edge sander and wide belt for everything. I appreciate hand planes and was considering picking one up. Im kinda lost when it comes to a recommendation for the line of work im in
I would reccomed checking out the Veritas Custom line of planes. Across the board it's awesome for an everyday user and occasional user
Nice review for a plane I would never get.
Thank you! And... same lol
Love your videos. Subscribed & thumbs upped. My only complaint is that you deserve a better microphone. Your voice is fine - your current mic sucks. Get a good lavaliere microphone.
I got one :) it will be used in future videos and so far it does sound alot better. Thank you!
This plane is a statement and an experiment and by no means a tool. This is a piece of conceptual art that just happens to shave wood but appears to be aimed for a non-use purpose as an aesthetical element of a house decor. A techno-art frolic by the manufacturer which cries out: "just because we can". For this alone, I like it whilst secretly hoping that it had indeed been the original intent. A manifestation of form over function. It is brave, it is mad, it is beautiful.
Have you used one ?
@@williamn01 A loaded, yet pointless question. I can reply "yes" or "no" or "more than one" would it make a difference? Do you care?
@antonm8719 That's a no then , you should try one on that shoulder of yours !
@@williamn01 How patronising...Do you wear haute couture over your shoulders?
A magnet to pick out the blade?
Ooh thats a great idea!!!
I think I’ll stick with my Veritas Jack plane
Rex Kruger found the sole was not flat and required extensive work was required to make it flat but the iron was sharp and ready to go!
I would have been so mad, but I'm the guy that would have returned it vs putting that much work I to it hahaha
"Not for production " I feel like that was targeted! 😂
It was! TO YOU! Save your $ hahahaha
@@BatCaveCreations 😆 🤣
Did you check for flatness out of the box.
I did, this one was fine but I know Rex has issues with the one he got
In a few years all woodworking UA-camrs will have a Bridge City plane in their backdrop as an ironic conversation starter. They're nice to look at, but don't look functional. Especially since critical pieces of a $1200 plane were plastic.
I feel like at 1200 it should set and sharpen itself hahahah
@@BatCaveCreations and make you breakfast in the morning
So, basically, the plane was designed by someone who has never used hand planes. Good to know.
Hahahah YES!
$700!!! Seven hundred dollars! There should be no plastic at all on that thing. It should be made out of vibrainium! What a colossal waste of money
Agreed!!!!
Don't forget about the extra $50 for shipping from lie nielsen. Veritas is free over $50. Great video
LN deff has $$ shipping lol thank you!
Highland Woodworking sells all of the Lie-Nielsen planes and they offer free shipping.
