What a beautiful reimagining of that poor old No1. So little of it left, has gotten me thinking about doing this with something a little less precious, like a 9 1/2 low angle block plane.
Great video, Dave!! I have a friend who is an ER doctor, and he has drilled into my head that you should never work with metal rings on. There's a chance your finger can get stuck in something, and before you know it, you've degloved your finger (ouch). Anyway, I love the videos; keep up the great work!
I think the plane looks better with the plain knurled nut at the front with the Rosewood one behind, also looks as though the lever cap is putting more direct pressure on the front of the iron which should in theory aid the cutting action and reduce most chatter. Nice job.
Great video. I bought a broken No. 3 at an antique shop for $3. I was going to try my hand at brazing to put it back together but this looks like a lot better idea.
Beautiful job. It turned out great. Your skill and attention to detail is outstanding. Keep’em coming and I’ll watch every one. Hope you’re having a great holiday weekend.
What a video! Dave, you're one amazingly talented bloke! What a beautiful plane. I hope you realise how much your work is appreciated! Inspiring Personally, I'd prefer one of your 101 planes to a Stanley no.1 I've two 101's ready to go to town on! one for testing and one for a finished piece.... And also, love the co-lab between you and some other passionate tool people's (I'm sure they won't mind that description)
That's very nicely done. Bevel up seems a little high angle on the cutting edge. With your setup, and how thick the blade is, I think it may also work bevel down.
I tried to keep the angle as low as possible, 12 degrees was not possible and I couldn’t get the Reed adjuster to work at 20. Bevel down might be a good option, I’ll make an iron and give it a shot. Great idea.
Really nice work man! I even learnt a thing or two! * I keep trying to hit the Like button again 😂 YT should refresh the Like each quarter so you can continue to like things
Prefer the wooden knob in the back position makes a better and quicker tighten down on the blade iron. You can sharpen a chisel plane as a push scraper to do quick clean ups. It will not dig in.
In case someone finds this and gets wound up over the hacksaw being used to cut the slot in the barrel but, lol up Edwin Hahn Planes. He made his tote screws from wire nails by threading the "pointy end" and cutting a slot in the head of the nail. I have one. It's 112 years old and works very well.
Best wishes Dave from England UK, great video, I am going to make you sick now I picked up a Stanley sweetheart No 1 several years ago for £1 best £1 I ever spent, and its like near new condition too .
Yes you made me sick…lol. I’m optimistic and keep waiting to see one sitting on a shelf at an antique mall or in a box at a yard sale. I’ll keep looking.
I wonder, if a person had the money and was committed enough, could they buy up a bunch of Stanley no1s and artificially inflate the price even more.....
I would absolutely love to have something like this one day! This one looks awesome! Great craftsmanship as always!
It's like Christmas morning seeing a new Dave Corinth upload.

So little of it left, has gotten me thinking about doing this with something a little less precious, like a 9 1/2 low angle block plane.
I don’t think I could get rid of any part on a No. 1, and honestly I try to find a use for almost all parts or other unusable planes and tools.

Not easy to get me to watch an entire video, but this was super fun and interesting to watch! Please do show us more of your talents Dave!
I am happy that I got a No 1 a couple of year ago and never need to hunt for it any more.
I think the plane looks better with the plain knurled nut at the front with the Rosewood one behind, also looks as though the lever cap is putting more direct pressure on the front of the iron which should in theory aid the cutting action and reduce most chatter.
Nice job.
Thank you very much, I’m going to post a video on a larger version made from a broken bedrock soon, and it too has a knob on the front.
Amazing work! I have a couple of broken no 4, I was thinking of turning one into a chisel plane. May give it a go now. 👍
Knob is pretty. Plane is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Excellent.
That was a cool build Dave. Nicely done
Thank you very much! Not that often you get to cut up a no 1.
Great video. I bought a broken No. 3 at an antique shop for $3. I was going to try my hand at brazing to put it back together but this looks like a lot better idea.
The bedrock 603’s make great chisel planes due to the fully machined bed. Never tried it on a No 3 but it should work just as good.
I always appreciate your videos, probably one of my favorite ones to watch.
I appreciate that!
Beautiful work. We shared this video on our homemade tool forum last week 😎
Love it. Thank you for taking time to make the video
Hi Dave I really enjoyed the video! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for watching!
Beautiful job. It turned out great. Your skill and attention to detail is outstanding. Keep’em coming and I’ll watch every one. Hope you’re having a great holiday weekend.
Beautiful
I laughed at the knob protruding. Definitely the type of mistake I would have made, except mine would have been much uglier! Well done :)
Just seen your video now l want one or have a go making my own
This was wonderfully entertaining and informative. I love the plane. A real beauty. I look forward to more videos in the future.
Thank you for watching
Wow, now that was impressive! Thanks for anther great video Dave!! 👏👏

If you ever need any info feel free to message me on FB, under the same name. Would love to see some pics of your 101 when you get it done.

Greeting from Australia, I know talent when I see it and I just saw it.
Well thank you very much, the compliment is very appreciated!!!
That was really cool to watch I loved it great job!!
Very cool conversion.

Nice plane Dave.

@@PPHalpert I thank you for the compliment and of course the like!
Beautiful work! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
What a beautiful work of art!
Thank you!!!!
Dave you are à Genius..! Congratulations !!
I think genius might be a slight overreach, but thank you for the compliment.
Great job!!
Amazing job, man!!! Holly sh....
Awesome! Great job!
Thank you for another excellent video!
Pretty freaking awesome!
Prefer the wooden knob in the back position makes a better and quicker tighten down on the blade iron.

I have sharpened a chisel plane before with an iron near 90 degrees and it does well as a scraper and to remove glue! Great tip!
Great video! What do you use for your mill and DRO setup?
In case someone finds this and gets wound up over the hacksaw being used to cut the slot in the barrel but, lol up Edwin Hahn Planes. He made his tote screws from wire nails by threading the "pointy end" and cutting a slot in the head of the nail. I have one. It's 112 years old and works very well.
I’ll let them get wound up, haven’t quite upgraded to a slitting saw yet…..did not know that about the Edwin Hahn planes…
Magnífico!!!

I'm assuming you're from central Illinois somewhere. Great video as always.
I live on the very southern tip in a little town called Galatia. I’m about 45 min from Kentucky.
Brilliant
Really stunning little plane but I’ll stick with just using normal chisels
What did you use for a black finish?
Dupli-Color Black Semi-Gloss Ford Engine Paint.
Another beautiful piece Dave, but I was disappointed……….😊
Супер!
Thank goodness for the first twenty seconds....I was having a minor aneurysm.
I wanted everyone to know I didn’t cut up a perfectly good no 1 body.
I was thinking “He’s making lemonade, I hope”
That’s plain to see😊
Man, that is not a fret file, it's SM's luthier file but def not appropriate for fret work.
Well now I know.
New life for an otherwise useless plane body. I wonder what the person that has it in a hundred years will think of it?
I wonder, if a person had the money and was committed enough, could they buy up a bunch of Stanley no1s and artificially inflate the price even more.....
No one has to worry about that from me for sure. At least the money side of it.
