This has always been my favorite version🎸🎶. He was in quite a mood that night, playful and loose. I enjoyed this offering very much! Thanks for bringing it today👌‼️

@@harrietmiller3982 yes I love this entire performance. Every song was brilliant and I’m kinda surprised more people to talk about it

@ I know! I remind people in the comments about Tokyo. So many of the same performances are repeated. Reactors are doing what’s asked of them. When he transitions from Tin Pan Alley into Dirty Pool I almost lost it. Talk about sick! And I don’t think I’ve ever see where he has done that before. And I can’t help but saying looking really nice all in Red. I love the dark green scarf and the emerald colored jewel in his headband. Enjoyed seeing his style change and mature over the years especially after rehab. He always stood out.

@ I’m going to do a video comparing early Stevie to sober Stevie. People always ask me what I think is better. I personally think it’s just different and don’t look at it as better or worse. He was amazing both ways to me

@@guitartroll I agree! He was born amazing and his biggest addiction was the guitar and he never wanted to give up. An interesting thing I learned was that after 5 months into recovery he felt his fingers! It felt like taking off boxing gloves! Said it removed the last barrier between him and his guitar that he didn’t even know existed. He actually went down to 0.11 strings after that.
So if he was playing like that with gloves and a barrier there it is hard to even comprehend. I’ve yet to hear anyone that had ever achieved that effortless mastery gloves or no gloves👌
The biggest difference between addiction and sobriety was his own personal health and happiness which only enhanced everything he did. His guitar playing was never not stellar.

I'm a 67 year old granny and listen to SRV everyday..Love Jimi too, he's buried in the same cemetery as my little cousin Jimmy in Renton Washington.

Myself I prefer Hendrix's studio version of the song. Sounds to me much more intense and psychedelic than Steve's live performances. The sound quality of Hendrix's live versions from 50 year's ago not as good .

Yeah, nice try by SRV. Had his version been out first, and then improved upon by Hendrix, it would have been a great acheivement in songwriting and what not by SRV, but the other way round, with Hendrix' version miles ahead, SRV's is just a faint reenactment. That said, SRV was still a great player, he just didn't have many original ideas.

SRV is a great guitarist and one of my favorites, but to say that his version of "Voodoo Child" is better than Jimi Hendrix's original shows a profound lack of understanding of Hendrix and the electric guitar. It's almost sacrilegious. I think if you don't know much about Hendrix, it's best to keep quiet or just make videos of your favorite guitarist. Jimi Hendrix's studio version of "Voodoo Child" is already genius, a phenomenal piece of music. Then there are the various live versions from famous concerts, which are incredible, mind-blowing and enlightening from Woodstock, Atlanta Pop festival, Berkeley etc... Stevie Ray Vaughan simply played his version of the song as a tribute to Jimi, he had no intention of reinterpreting or improving it. He played it in his own style, but it's certainly not better than the original
