Hey man, excellent video. A lot (,or at least all the videos ive seen, have talked about all the guitarist shown and mentioned, but you are the first (to my knowledge) to shed a true light on the fact that Billy G was his favorite guitar player. Awesome
Many people aren’t familiar with ZZ Top’s early work. They didn’t become famous outside the south until MTV made them icons. Nobody sounds like them. They were the tightest and funkiest blues rock band I’ve heard and it wasn’t close. Billy Gibbons and bass player Dusty Hill played a relentless hard charging style that was all their own. My favorite album is Tres Hombres. Check out the little old band from Texas. You’ll be glad you did.
@@TomWilhelm-zn4sj unfortunately they’re not the same band. Still comprised of legendary musicians but without Dusty Hill it’s not ZZ Top. It’s like if Rush tried to regroup with a different drummer but even more so because of how tight Dusty and Billy played . But I am sure it will be a great show!
You forgot two VERY important names, the King Of Surf Guitar Dick Dale for whom Jimi wrote the song "Third Stone From The Sun" and Robert Fripp from King Crimson, the band that Jimi called the best band in the world. Jimi went to shake Fripp's hand with his left hand because it was closer to his heart.
There were and are many awesome guitarists. There’s no way any individual can actually identified as the best guitarist. That would be down to personal preference.
I love Jimi and have since I was 16. I especially admire that openly shared his admiration for other musicians in such an ego-less way. PS. Jimi also admired Jeff Beck, his style and licks. And yes, as someone else mentioned below, Leslie West.
Phil Keaggy and Glass Harp. Versatile guitarist in all genres of music, since "68 to present. Over 60 albums. He adlib jam extensions to some of his tunes live, and studio .
My favorite guitarist from the list in the video was Eric Clapton. My favorite guitarist(s) not mentioned are Jeff Beck for Rock, Fusion, Techno, Progressive and Stevie Ray Vaughn for Blues although I have to give props to Frank Zappa.
Being a lefty guitar player I’d turn my right hand SG upside down but I have a friend who owns one of the largest online lefty guitars businesses so I now own many high quality and priced electric guitars and acoustic ones. Had enough guitars that were like Stratocaster but better than fenders. I bought a 63 Fender Basemaster cabinet and head and a Fender Musicmaster cabinet and head. The Bassmaster sounds incredible. I met the Grateful Dead in 1971 when I asked Jerry if I could sit behind the amps and he let me. The first person I meet is Bear dropping liquid acid on the back of people’s head’s and then they licked it off. I stuck my hand out and he put four big drops on the back of my hand and I licked it off. Bear hooked me up with one of his local dealers and I kept messing more people engaged in all the different aspects of the LSD world. The Wall Of Sound was just unbelievably good, especially on acid. I saw Hendrix in 1968..⚡️🎸⚡️
Talent is an amazing thing- (and greatly misunderstood by most people). All of the guitarists mentioned are/were very talented. It's my belief that Jimi was on another level than they are/were. And, on some level, we're all blind to our own talents- (let that sink in).
I actually agree with you...Infact Albert King berated Hendrix!! Steve Cropper,B.B King and Buddy Guy out the might of been ones Jimi genuiely loved and respected...The Billy Gibbons part some of that might of been true also..I'm not sure he admired them but Albert Collins,Elmore James and Otis Rush Jimi might of just really liked their styles..But not mentionned on that list was Leslie West, another guitar man Jimi liked from Mountain, rumours I heard had it that they even fooled around on a couple of jam sessions with Hendrix picking up the bass for fun...Who knows really... I get you tho, so much BS out there not all is true and what's real or actually factual is often left out!!
ry kooder...jesus of course, and jeff beck, ritchie was a killer too keef ! is my all time favorite just as a writer of these famous riffs and my favorite songs idk if skillwise he can match up with the others but his unique take on blues playing is just awesome...later on its van halen and knopler probably the guy from red hot finishes it off. and one more is that is a little underrated is jj cale he has that low down blues groove thats hard to match.
As far as Talent, Jimi Hendrix was lightyears ahead of everyone else. But he was very humble and sweet. But let's not get it twisted Jimi Hendrix is the greatest guitarist of all time.
We Guitarists all have our reasons why we like another Guitarist. It comes down to riffs & styles that stand out from the rest & resonate in our souls. They don't have to be speed players, just emulate certain qualities that stand out from the rest, but it always will come down to personal taste. To me there is no greatest guitarist in the world. Diversity & taste will often rule our tastes.Hendrix was one who played in such a way that resonated within most Guitarists souls, & created popular riffs, his playing also resonated well with the listeners.
On this topic, Hendrix is like a kid in a candy shop, ....going from display to display, "Oh wow, that's my favorite...." next.... "Oh, look at the colors of that one, that's my favorite, " ...on and on. There are guitarists Hendrix never heard who, if he heard them, he would say, "That's great. that's my favorite." I'm not depreciating Hendrix, but simply saying he loves hundreds of guitarists/musicians, .....some he's heard, some he hasn't.

Music is a very personal Thing . Tone makes the Music . The Best Guitar Player ? I don’t know . Technical I love Al Di Meola . But My Favorit Guitarist is Eric Clapton.
But for Red House and Bullfrog, Hendrix was only a psychedelic rock guitarist. Talented ... yes. I love him. BUT, Rory Gallagher and Peter Green (in his prime at 20 years old) were truly great, and Albert King ... yes, yes, yes! It's not how loud or fast you can play. It's about how you make every note capture one's soul.
Jimi was extremely generous in his praise of other players. Albert King was a disingenuous prick who said Jimi couldn't play the blues. Who do we remember today for their blues playing? Bye, Fat Albert.
Who is my favorite guitarist? No such thing. Everyone who lands on the favorites list, have influences and mentors. They may be famous or totally prefer to remain unknown. They may not even have played a guitar. In fact they may not have played any music at all. But... they made a huge impact on someone, who, in turn passed on the goods that make one decide to pick up the guitar (or whatever instrument), in the first place. So... if I were to say I like this player or that player, I am also including all those who influenced that player. It is such a deep question. Young people can inspire me as much as my older heroes who have long since passed on. There is a LOT of talent out there. Everyone picks up something from someone else. There is nothing new under the sun.
Hey you can’t mention Albert King without adding in Jerry Beach. His daughter is a friend of mine. And if you didn’t know Jerry wrote “I’ll sing the blues for you “ Albert’s top hit. I have a video on my channel playing this song with Robin Beach on lead vocals. At an open mic. ✌️
Hendrix was not the "greatest guitarist of all time." An idiotic statement. Even Hendrix said he wasn't the best guitarist during his lifetime. It's a huge disservice to the fantastic jazz and classical guitarists who came before him and those that were around him at the time. They were well ahead of him in technical ability and musical knowledge.
Rory Gallagher was a great guitarist. But he doesn't have 1 known number. He was a mediocre singer. His collaborations with Frankie Miller are his highlights.
These lists are bogus 1:Jimi and Albert King didn't get along. 2:Jimi said, Terry Kath was better than he was, he never said he was his favorite, as a matter if fact they intimidated each other. 3:Jimi never said Rory Gallagher was the best. That's a myth. 4:Jimi loved Jeff Beck and he's not on this list. That's blasphemy. This youtuber needs to get his facts straight before posting a video 🤬
Point No. 2. He only allegedly said Kath was better than him. That's only according to Kath's bandmate James Pankow so it's just a story , not an established fact.
Rory Gallagher was a great guitar player. Better than hendrix?not even close! Hendrix had better technique, showmanship, and presence in his little finger than Rory had in his whole body.i seriously doubt if he ever heard of rory. Enough said...

Jimmy Hendrix and Rory Gallagher were both on the Isle of Wight festival in 1970.
If only they'd jammed together and got it recorded!
Unfortunately, they played on different days -- and Hendrix's set was not very good. Rory's band Taste OTOH, blew the crowd away.

Buddy Guy!!! I love the story about Hendrix asking Buddy Guy if he could put his reel to reel recorder on the stage to record Buddy!!!! ✌️ ❤️ 🎶
