Want to know what Albert King thinks of Stevie's playing? Just look at him! Yelling and clapping the whole time.. Got to love that. RIP Stevie and Albert
Albert King's style includes challenging and exhorting his fellow players to bring out their best. That plus the fact that Albert is one of Stevie's influences. I think Albert King is Stevie's prime influence when you compare his sound to the others that people compare him to (Hendrix), and those he references (Albert King, BB King, Muddy Waters).
The fact that he can tickle those sounds out of that badass flying vee with just his fingers amazes me. My very favorite bluesman. He took some flack for it at the time but i love the way he incorporates a larger band and full horn section in some of his other stuff out there. Smooth and heavy and hard like polished concrete.

You can not like this because it's a classic case of clashing contemporaries. This is an entirely inappropriate duo. Albert's legend stands taller than Stevie's, and always will. But he's of a very different era and mentality which simply does not work in the context of Vaughn's explosive funk-blues. King was many wonderful things on the fretboard, but "diverse" was not one of them. He played the blues, and only one style of it. He did it as well as anyone ever could, or probably ever will again, but still, he could not play outside of that. It's a cool novelty to see two blues legends on stage together just the same, sure. But this isn't good music and there's a lot of very silly people in this comment section who've allowed novelty to turn off their ears, and celebrity to cloud their better judgement.
Sorry that we are all not as enlightened as you oh Lord Jai Guru; may you grace us with your great knowledge of how music should sound/does sound to the relative ear! I for one find it true that opposites attract, that sweet and salty do in fact go well together and that SRV and Albert King, though opposite in approach, connect Blues through this unique timeline of blues shown throughout this video. Being that King was old style and limited in his capability of moving from style to style... I believe SRV did a fairly great job in not over accentuating his very much louder and more funk-blues style playing. To hear a base track laid out by very good musicians, and to have that be the bridge that allows blues to encompass sixty years of culture is beautiful. These two styles meet in this middle ground that two masters have created in this room. Isn't Blues full of soul and emotion? I look at this like there is a soul that is pushing at the gate to wail (SRV) and does; then we see the emotion of a reserved, continually oppressed man (given the times in which Nelson was alive) being brought out in a powerful yet reserved way. This is history as the OP said.
I think, this man they call Albert King, may be the real King. This from a huge fan of Stevie, for better than 30 yrs. I see why SRV idealized this badazz blues man.

Oh My God!!! This Was Probably The Greatest Summit Meeting in Blues History!!! To See These Two TITANS AT THE Height of THEIR POWERS CREATING SUCH MUSIC TOGETHER, WAS NOTHING LESS THAN A GIFT FROM GOD!!!!!!!
What can be said about this session that hasn't been said already. Both Albert and Stevie both shredding and making both guitars just scream with heart felt emotion. Just like two great guitarists. they just flow with each other. I love how Stevie Ray is just studying and showing admiration as well as respect When Albert is taking the lead And Albert stands up and he gets Stevie Ray up too.. And only in the blues can you play a 4 minute song and turn it into a 15 minute song and at the end of the 15 minutes and at the end of those 15 minutes you wish they could have turned it into a 20 minute song and never get tired of it.Great video and RIP both Albert and Stevie Ray. I am waiting in anticipation until its my time to go to heaven and see the super group they have up there . Albert KIng, Stevie Ray Vaughn , Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley , John Lee Hooker, Howlin Wolf.....and up there I'm sure Chuck Berry and Elvis will be part of the super group too and fill in any of the other greats.....I still hope thats a long time away but until then. think how heavenly that group would be.
Stevie and Albert being Stevie and Albert, and a few people talking about how Gus is laying down the groove, but how about those goddamn drums! thats a mean beat man! Also love Alberts little bits between Stevies lyrics and how Stevie sings the wrong verse :'D
81 thumbs down ?! are we watching and listening to the same thing here. This is outstanding , pure creative genius from 2 legends . Bass player deserves a big hand can't sound and play this good without everyone playing their part. Fantastic , great post, cheers

Haha - I love how at 0:53 Albert hands off the solo to Stevie and says "come on Punk!" - you can tell they had a great time and respected each other. Blues guitar don't get no better than this!
It is so unbelievable how they essentially play the same thing over and over and still each phrase sounds completely fresh and new. They get the maximum out of handfuls of notes.... phrasing.... blues tone....
At 10:40 ish when Stevie (probably breaks a string) switches guitars so smoothly and Albert doesnt even miss a lick, gaining him time to swap and joins right back in… professional jam session right there.
im 22, just picked up my guitar for the first time in 10 years, never found srv and the kings til now. i cant believe iv missed out on this music for so long, i cant stop watching these old jam sessions. i feel like im learning so much. Some day...
Brother you’ve got a lot of great guitar tunes ahead of you.. haha.. check out Johnny winter too if you haven’t.. once the blues gets you you’re never the same again..
Stevie in his own words looked up to Albert King like his adopted benevolently father and would only let loose, out of respect, when Albert would wave him on. Stevie was so humble and respected these great like Albert so much is what made him do special along with his God given natural ability. This is my favorite DVD concert I own. This was done in Canada. A few years later Albert passed away and 7 years later Stevie died. RIP I'm sure wherever you're both at you're still jamming together making heavenly harmony ❤️👍❤️
@@RUGreen-tz6cu until he sat down and had another kind of father and son talk with BB King.. b said why are you working so hard I don't like to work. and it was right about that time that stevie would change his string gauge and start using a lot thinner string

12:30 when albert is soloing and the whole band goes quiet for his bends is criminally epic
its so fucking cool
The band dont go quite.. ur just sucked im by Albert's playing that all u hear is him
@@justicemcdonald2939 At 11:49 they go silent for him
@@rustinpeace770 those are pauses written into the song. They didn't "stop playing," they continued to play the song, exactly the way they planned it
@@rustinpeace770 , amazing.
Cant help it,,Keep coming back....KING is KING,not to mention Stevie.....
wen u dont even have the blues but the blues is so good that u make urself have the blues so u can listen to the blues
If either had been prejudiced we wouldn't have these minutes of ecstasy. We are all brothers. Love over hate.
Mamacita.
SRV heart was open 💖
Srv stopped a concert to lecture a audience about fighting at his concert and brotherhood once.
Damn! If you don't love the blues, this should convert you. Feel it in your bones.
Thank you Brothers R.I.P.
🙏😎💙🎸Thanks Mr King & SRV 💙 PERFECTION 💙🎸😎🙏
What makes Albert and Stevie so great is the way they switch from lead to rhythm and compliment each other
*complement, though I'm sure they did compliment each other quite a bit.
0:30 you're light is blinding me Mr. King, literally 👏🎸⚡ I genuinely feel pity for those who can't appreciate or know what greatness roamed this earth once upon a time... RIP 2 Legends🎩 hats off
No better music than the Blues it's in the Blood and class of special people who know what it means to love the the music at it's best by Legends present and past I for one will always love the The Blues and will always be greatful for the effors done by Legends who have sacrificed their live for us to forever love 💕 the messages sung to feel the Blues at Heart
You should read what Jimmie Vaughn says about Stevie and Albert's first meeting !
👍😎
Stevie is on a level beyond..well beyond the highest..incredible master of guitar..rest in peace great soul
But you can see how much more soulful and deep groove Albert is than Stevie. He makes Stevie sound like his hyper son.
@@ejskel5535 let's be fair. Both are legends.
Stevie made Albert feel young again...….PRICELESS!!!
That's enough to make a grown man break down and cry :' )
Shit y'all I'm crying
Stevie and Albert being Stevie and Albert, and a few people talking about how Gus is laying down the groove, but how about those goddamn drums! thats a mean beat man! Also love Alberts little bits between Stevies lyrics and how Stevie sings the wrong verse :'D
Yeh man, this drummer is baddddd too! Anyone know his name?
81 thumbs down ?! are we watching and listening to the same thing here. This is outstanding , pure creative genius from 2 legends . Bass player deserves a big hand can't sound and play this good without everyone playing their part. Fantastic , great post, cheers
81 that loves auto-tune rappers
Wimp men. Probably those chavvy justin bieber types that staned around impersonating black people and touch themselves like nonces in the street
There are clueless and classless fools in every town.
All I can say is that if you don’t dig this down deep, then you don’t know what true joy is……. and that is a pity!!!
They look like two kid with 20$ in a candy shop. Just pure joy.
Que bueno es encontrar semejante locura💯🌎🇻🇪☮️
15 minutes made in heaven
ramon berendsen , and 53 seconds.
Here in 2020 and UA-cams algorithm just dropped a 30s ad in at 10min point lol wtaf. Nice job, way to generate revenue u clueless dick heads.
Ecstasy
the beauty of blues
It’s not unlike a fugue turned into a feud 😉 I’m sure JS Bach would agree
Here from Monterrey mexico... This is up there with Chuck
The Earth is better because SRV & AK gave us music from their souls. 💕
❤❤❤❤
I keep coming back, this is toooooooo good! Forever toooooooooo good!! Whoever does not realize just how good this is...I'm sorry!
💯💃🏽
When Albert said "Come on punk" To Stevie. The best part of the whole jam. And then plays his part like a boss. Respect your elders kids.
At 10:40 ish when Stevie (probably breaks a string) switches guitars so smoothly and Albert doesnt even miss a lick, gaining him time to swap and joins right back in… professional jam session right there.
Mistakes are the best in live músic
im 22, just picked up my guitar for the first time in 10 years, never found srv and the kings til now. i cant believe iv missed out on this music for so long, i cant stop watching these old jam sessions. i feel like im learning so much. Some day...
bigAPsweetness
Someday: the better you get, the harder you work. Albert King
everybody learns by watching this piece!!
Keep it up man. It's never too late. The blues are timeless. Okay, I'm all cliche'd out. Lol.
Thanks all for the replies, im keepin it going!! Been playing everyday since this comment. Im lovin every second🤘
Brother you’ve got a lot of great guitar tunes ahead of you.. haha.. check out Johnny winter too if you haven’t.. once the blues gets you you’re never the same again..
Never be talent like this again
Folks gotta listen more to the blues. It keeps you grounded.
If you turn the screen off, it gets tough to tell them apart. It’s like father and son sharing the stage.
I feel like every other blues song ever was leading up to this and it will never be topped
now I can die happy
This is the best video I have seen in my life
Stevie in his own words looked up to Albert King like his adopted benevolently father and would only let loose, out of respect, when Albert would wave him on.
My fingers hurt playing along with these guys
SRV's fingers would bleed so bad, he used Super Glue to close the cuts!
Toni Jean - You need to drop your tuning like they do, then only play half the notes - you'll be fine!
Let’s be honest, you don’t play along with these guys!
My fingers hurt watching these guys
@@RUGreen-tz6cu until he sat down and had another kind of father and son talk with BB King.. b said why are you working so hard I don't like to work. and it was right about that time that stevie would change his string gauge and start using a lot thinner string
this is priceless, cannot describe how happy this makes me. Bless both of them
2024 and STILL my favorite music video!
💃🏽💯
This is some bad ass collaboration.
Now, this is something EVERYBODY EVERYWHERE says in the SAME LANGUAGE!🎶💃🏼
This slaps the soul so hard my teeth almost fell out. Masterpiece theater.
13:45 Albert is soloing so hard and full of emotion he has to regain his composure again back to reality.
The look on their faces when the other is soloing says it all, they're enjoyin ever note!
That bass player is good . Killing it
13:44 aLBERT PUSHED TO THE MAX TILL THERE IS NO MORE. LONG LIVE THE KING ALBERT!1!!!
My 10th quadrillion time listening to this 🥃
Play it again!!!!
The evolution of music is a wonderful thing
Stevie ,,You and Albert,,Both of You musically made Love to this Beautiful yet heartless world ,,and we really do Miss You !
Stevie pulls his strings so hard he has to get back in tune while playing 😂
How l love to hear and watch this man play his heart out. He was an awesome human! He had so much respect for all the other people he played with .He absolutely loved Albert King! I loved the way Stevie dressed, the way he sang, the way he played and he was so handsome!.He and Jimmie were so good together..l know that his passing left a hole in Jimmies big heart!
Yup i see jimmie play in memphis from time to time hes still great but people ask him to play songs and he won't....i think they remind him of his brother
I'm a blues fan also and everytime I listen to this video I learn something new 😂! How's about that? I know it's only Rock nRoll Music.🎶😊&!? Yes?
I almost cried... thank you
The Loss of Stevie Ray Vaughn we lost a Legend @ Icon @ ALBERT King wow what a duo they made. Greatest ever Blues Players Together.💜💚🧡💛❤
Great thing about becoming famous , you get to play music with your heroes. Stevie loved Albert King . Well ,who doesn`t ?
Only time you really see stevie play slowly is when he is with one of his inspirations and I love it. Pays great respect to those that taught him
Experienced this. Still have 2 copies...signed CD's. I come back and watch once in a while, just to humble myself. These 2 players playing off each other? will never be equaled....37 yrs. and counting.
You see the way stevie broke a string on number one then just changed guitars and never missed a bar chord like a legend
12:41-12:51 and 15:05-15:15 legendary riffs
