Fortnum & Mason, The Dorchester Hotel, and The Savoy are my favorites in that order, I have about $500. worth of tea shipped to me in the USA shipped to me annually.
Fortnum’s never disappoint in my experience, I’d recommend their produce if you fancy something just a little bit special for home, the teas, preserves, biscuits & chocolate products are all very good indeed.
Fortnum and Mason is always welcoming. Turned away from the Ritz when we arrived (having booked) for afternoon tea because two ladies in our party were wearing trousers (elegant couture trouser suits), we headed for Fortnum's for a lovely, cosy, delicious afternoon tea.
I remember my late Grandmother having afternoon Tea. She made almost everything except the clotted cream, she would make homemade Jammie Dodgers with a Mulberry filling. However it didn’t cost Sixty Five pounds. That’s a steep price for childhood memories, but so worth it.
For me the french Maison Bertaux in Soho is the best place for desserts and tea. Its rustic and charming, chaotic and it what it is. Highly recommend going there after this pandemic.
So angry at my recommendation page for showing me your channel.... so late!! why have I JUST found you?? Your channel has exactly the food videos i love 😁 i loveee afternoon tea and scones!! please review all afternoon tea places near you hehe
I liked your video so much I'm going look at your other videos. Thank you for a thoroughly researched, clear and informative on point video without the waffle. You have a gift for filming. You know how to captivate your audience. Love it.
It's changed a lot over the years then - I worked very close by in the late 80s and my word were the shop assistants and floor walkers snobbish unless you were obviously wealthy. Terence Stamp used to have tea in the afternoons as his Club was just a little further along Piccadilly. I had no idea who he was at the time, but he was the most elegant and handsome man I'd ever seen at the time.
I have been F&M several times when in London, always a joyful experience, unlimited refill and attentive staff. Dress code no shorts! But the F&M shop in HK, the afternoon tea is not served unlimited refill.
Fortnum and mason one of the last bastion of the british empire. So much authentic tradition and british style. Those 55 Euros is standard for that quality and service. And for that price you have to enjoy this with all your sense...
Those desserts look attractive, nice work by the Pastry Chef. Great choice of China close to “Tiffany” blue. Prices went up. When it was designed by another unmentioned Royal & Presented to ERII, it was never to be over 50 pounds per person, 100 for two. Rising costs represent a mismanaged economy. Wonderful products & place, nonetheless.
I have just discovered your channel by watching this video. Very nicely done and to the point. I also liked very much your presentation and analysis. Just a question, I am intrigued by your accent, from where are you from? Greetings from Argentina! PS: I have subscribed and I am looking forward to more of your videos. Have a nice day.
@@Baerchenization Being Canadian, I refer to it as "high tea" which is commonly thought of as a full afternoon tea with everything. A lot of venues here promote this as high tea, as well as "afternoon tea". For the detailed conscious who honour tradition it's actually "afternoon tea" or "low tea".
I’m lactose intolerant so can’t eat most of the food served but so enjoyed the video. It was a feast for my eyes. Not I’m off to the kitchen cuz it made me super hungry
Hello there! Ive been watching your videos non stop! Im going to London next month, the Ritz Afternoon Tea is completely booked the weekend I am there :/ From Fortnum & Mason, Sketch and Savoy Afternoon Teas, which would you recommend?
Hi. They are quite small, so we actually finish them with scones. But I am sure if you have some scones left and ask they might give it to you. Or, the beauty of the afternoon tea in Fortnum & Mason is that you can always go downstairs to the tea shop and buy all these jams and preserves there.
My grandfather, a Naval Officer and businessman, adored F&M, and he'd bring back hampers and goodies on his business trips, I was the only child for sure at my school who would eat caviar, foie gras and lava bread! He only liked elegant places, and I actually got to see it one day, not go in, in passing and it did look impressive. Inside in your video it looks lovely, and the tea rooms look as good as my beloved Betty's in Harrogate, (who have a beautiful Victorian style shop attached where you can buy what you eat in the tea room) it's what a proper tea rooms should look like, so after Covid it would be worth a visit, and to pick up some of those beautiful tea caddies. Thank you for showing this, it brought back memories of my grandfather, who I miss dearly.
True. The noise level in London in restaurants is very high in general. In that sense the Afternoon Tea at the Claridge's was probably the best. The space there is quite big and tables are further apart. The Ritz is the worst. It has gazillion tables squeezed into a tiny space.
I wasn't talking about the possibility that one "took" the idea to use that shade of blue from the other. I was just noting that they both use the same shade since it is a little unusual.
FM have their own Herend design which is in their brand colour (but not the one in this video); all luxury department stores have their own Herend design, which is basically the same, only the colour differs. I have a tea tete-a-tete for/from Asprey which just so happens to look the nicest in dark blue :)
If you cant go here in person, you can order many items online. I like their Russian Caravan Tea Bags, they work out at 22p each, add Traditional Hand Made in Ediinurgh Shortbread, at 55p each and you have a exceptional experience for 77p. Only slight issue, both are so good, I have 2 cups of tea and three bits of shortbread, so call it £2.09. Cup ot tea and a muffin in McDonald is £2.48, mass produced poor quality food with a muffin full of palm oil. Fortnem and Masons are perceived as being very expensive, but compared to others, they are not. Also, they deliver all over the world, so get ordering your gifts for Christmas and treat family and friends, they will be impressed!
I am coming home in the fall I want to spend some time in London with my mother. We would like to try afternoon tea in London. Where is the best place to have this wonderful tea experience? Also is Fortnum and Mason a good choice?
Hi Melanie. Fortnum and Mason is a good choice! Actually, there is no bad choice! All afternoon teas I tried so far were very good. They all had food and teas of high quality and the professional and friendly staff (and pretty much the same prices). The biggest differences are in the atmosphere. Hotels (the Ritz, Claridge's) are generally more glamorous and formal while Fortnum's afternoon tea is a little bit more relaxed. So, it depends on what style you would rather experience. If you want to have a nice 'girls' time out with your mum, dress up, take photos in extravagant interiors then I would go for the hotel afternoon tea. But if you want something more casual (but still with great quality!) and maybe do some shopping afterward in the oldest department store in London (I sometimes buy their jams and teas as gifts) then Fortnum and Mason would be an excellent choice.
As a Londoner I would recommend Claridges but there are so many options. If you want a genuine bargain, The Delaunay in the Aldwych serves a great afternoon tea in a wonderful setting for around half the price of a top hotel.
Avoid Claridge's. It is full of loud, badly dressed people. It just isn't what it was, and I can remember it as far back as the 1960s, when it was special. Try The Ritz, the Goring Hotel or, if you don't want to take out a mortgage, Patisserie Valerie. Fortnum and Mason is good, and again I remember how it was from the 1960s, before it was enlarged. Now a must have on the tourist trail.
Question and for clarification about what you said...the extra scone and finger sandwiches....you must pay extra for them or are included? Thanks in advance and cheers from Chile!!!
Hi Emma, it's included in the price. They always ask you if you want more. People usually go for two plates of sandwiches. You wouldn't be able to eat much more. There is a lot of food and tea to be eaten in two hours.🙂
No, it's made by heating milk in something like a bain marie. You let it cool, when thick lumps of cream called clouts come to the top. That's clotted cream. As for butter, that's cold churned.
@TheRenaissanceman65 Thank you so much for your wisdom! Like most Americans, I associate tea with a simple cup of that soothing elixir, as opposed to "tea." I'm becoming increasingly fascinated by the ritual and iterations of tea.
120£ for tea, a couple sandwiches and a couple pastries while being surrounded by the chatter of so many people. Meanwhile you can have tea at home, bake something and surprise your family, or your friends or just buy one or two of your favorite sweet treats and have that in peace, quiet and the music of your choice.
I hope these businesses are still there when we overcome our current crisis. Meanwhile, I hope everyone remains safe and healthy.

I was here today for afternoon tea. Its beautiful, staff are amazing. We were served by a Mr Pinto. It was divine.

This is my favorite place for tea in London - plus, it's right around the corner from my tailor!
I loved having tea at F&M a few years ago. I bought a lovely tiered serving dish and beautiful teas in their signature tins.

It is really delicious, could not eat everything but I tried. They take your coat and the service is lovely, friendly but professional

Literally the best afternoon tea EVER. You get so full though. 😂 Really delicious food and great, elegant service and place to shop afterwords.
It really is. The whole department store is amazing.
Can u have as many scones as u want included in 1 order of afternoon tea? Or each extra scone/ sandwich you have has an extra cost?
