Good early morning to you (03.24 am) Justin and Tamika and all on Black Opal Direct from me in Sweden! Love to see this and I get so happy when you cut a good little opal..
I just won my first 70ct Andamooka rough lot in an auction! I’ve learned so much from watching you, I’m going to have at it! Now if you want to catch Montana Trout, I will take you to one of my honey holes.
East of a tiny town in Oregon, Jefferson. On the banks of the North Santiago river, Steelhead and Chinook Salmon. That cushion cut ribbon beauty made me quiver a bit, I’ll admit. 🤪
Hey, PNW bro!!! I'm from Washington, but I've lived in Oregon for several years, and have been visiting several areas throughout the state since I was a literal baby. Jefferson def sounds familiar to me, believe it or not. Have you ever been out to Malheur Wildlife Refuge? It's in Burns; central Oregon, in the high desert area. We used to camp there every summer.
By the way, I LOVE fishing, too. There's a spot absolutely TEEMING with trout, called, of all things, 'Fish Lake'. I mainly do lake and river fishing, but I've been on a few ocean charters in my life. Do you get all the types of salmon down there? Silver, Sockeye, Dog (Chum)? I wanna find a good new spot where the salmon run every year.
@@veggiesarefruits I have only passed through Malheur a few times years ago. I rarely stray east of the Cascades, my heart is in the high creeks where there is gold to be wrangled. Hiya Justinm - G'Day mate from this Canadian Kiwi who also adores OPALS! Good to see you again - I watch all yoru vids andam sharing the joy with friends and family in AUssie and NZ and here in CANADA :-)
Do any of the jewelers you sell to have a channel so we could see how they decided to use the stone and the finished product? If not, is that a collab that could happen in the future?
As I understand it, the Lightning Ridge jewelers (maybe all jewelers) are very protective of their 'trade secrets' and don't like to reveal their techniques or their prices to give away any competitive edge. But I may be wrong. I hope so, actually cos i'd like to see that too.
You cut some beautiful gems Justin, and that ribbon pattern was amazing. Can't wait to see them polished up. Liking the new apron. Thank you and glad you enjoyed your fishing trip. Sounds awesome
I had to watch this in three sessions because I fall asleep within 20 minutes every time haha! This is the best insomnia treatment, no offence, your voice is really relaxing, Justin. This might be the reason behind the views spiking up :) I still watch for the content and find it all very interesting. Keep it up!
Justin how you find a gem from a rock is amazing. The ribbon gem was exciting, cant wait to see it all polished. I watch each week, hoping for another harlequin to come along, but the ribbon gem was getting close to the excitement of the harlequin you cut some months ago. Thank you for a great video, Tamika looking forward to seeing your photography, you have a wonderful subject to capture, Black Opal Direct have the very best gems to photograph. Signing off as one of your awesomeness (your words Justin) fans..... until next week... may the colour be with you Master Justin..... Ps Lets see the 2 kg Opal please Justin, do a big video on that one it would be thrilling to watch..
Great show! I wish I saw more opals here in the US. Surprisingly, I don't see them much. I dont think most here are very educated about them. They dont realize that there are many different opals with insane color and intensity. Most are just used to the white opals with little color.
Just what I needed to start my day with...Justin and opals! Thank you so much. My favorite today is the ribbon pattern opal, and going right this minute to see the end results! Yippee!
Love your opal cutting vids sooo much! I look forward to them, and every time I see an upload, I get so excited! You have such an amazing personality, Justin. Truly. I think you would make a great host for a TV show, based around opal. There's so much you can do, because you not only have years of experience and skill, but you have that "it" factor because you're naturally funny, charismatic, and real. You really draw people in, in a very unique way.
Sorry missed the live Justin enjoying the video now. You will have to visit bonnie Scotland 🏴 and fish for some wild Scottish Salmon. Only problem with Scotland is there is no opal to mine but we can still enjoy the lovely opal from Australia
I think I have just watched 6 lives in a row. I found your channel a few weeks ago and I'm loving it. I picked up some rough at an estates auction and I butchered it, but it wasn't great stuff and I guess that how ill learn. Love your content

Hello Justin, welcome, Tamika (spelling?), unfortunately you're on the other side of the world and your life sessions are almost impossible for me to catch, but that doesn't really dampen my enjoyment much - or the tension and hopes, I can see the live chats are marvelously well attended and people had a great time, it's good even to see in retrospect. I've always loved opals - not to wear, just cause they are so beautiful - but I never thought I'd regularly be following cutting sessions with such interest! Can't ait to see what you got this time. Regards from Austria ✴
Also, wait...on the last one, I think you forgot that you started with the back, taking it off first, but got distracted by multitasking with all the questions and comments, and forgot to turn it back over to reveal the top, once you saw color coming from the bottom. Did anyone else catch that? I rewatched it a couple of times and you definitely started by taking down the back. There could be an awesome stone in there! Love again from Olympia, Washington, USA! 🇺🇸❤🇦🇺
I am a fisherman to Justin. Never fished in Australia though. I am a fly fisherman mainly. I know they are small, but if you pull the wings off , and fry them in butter an garlic, they can be quite tasty.
Sorry I missed the live Justin. Latly has been gloomy and gray around here. Haven't done much, loads of wild fires. Hopefully I'll be able to get out to the area here and get some opal going from us in the northwest USA much love my friend hope things have been going good. A few guys I play online games with live in Queensland and said things got pretty bad for a bit with the whole covid thing lately . Be safe
Those little stones are important!! It brings opal into a more affordable range for the average consumer. $300-$400 for a pretty opal for a piece of jewelry isn’t too bad.

Question; Considering, from earths creation unit now has been one timeline, if the opal you are working on now were not dug up and stayed in the earth 10 million years more, would the line of color in opal be thicker then? Less potch more vibrant colors?
This is the first one I caught live, I do have a question on the starter parcels. I was wondering if it was all potch to practice with? Or if you tossed in one or two possibly riddled with sand pieces as well?
Have you or anyone in the following ever cabbed anything else? If I can do a good job and sell what I have then ill be going for opal. Love your work.. wish I could afford it lol
$400 is indeed better than a kick in the teeth, beaten completely by sand. I'll take it. Justin, you know what would be fascinating? Going over all the different shades of color in these stones. It's hard for us to tell sometimes watching through the monitor, but I've seen several shades of each color. Sometimes you talk about a specific red you call "pigeon blood red." It would be so cool if you could go over all the different shades sometimes.
why didnt u cut the pointy part of the 1st one off instead of grinding it away bc af a tiny sandspot? wouldnt it ve been a nice small stone for an earpiece or someth?
The third stone was still quite "milky" on top by the time you finished it. Yet on the side, you could see some very bright blue shining through. Why didn't you continue taking down the milky surface if such brightness was indicative? How sure are you to have stopped when you did?
I'm guessing, not that I'm talking for Justin, I'm just going by previous videos, that he knows how far he has to go down with polishing, and he's trying to lose as little of the stone as possible at this point. His experience will be telling to stop where he does, because to go further, and still have to polish does one of two things, a, risks losing value, and b, risks losing the colour bar all together in some instances. Of course, I'm sure Justin will correct me if I'm wrong, or there is more to it than my non existent cutting on a wheel knowledge is grasping 😁
Hi , from Chicago Illinois , I enjoy watching you make such awesome opals. The colors are so pretty. But could you explain where matrix opals come from?
With how much material those wheels are capable of removing from hard stones, how much damage would those things do to flesh if you were to accidentally touch one as its running?
