For the first UK route in TSW, I think it's nice, but of course it was quickly eclipsed by newer UK DLC packs. It'll be interesting to see how the remaster turns out
Maybe Dovetail should try to update the older routes or reduce the cost at least. Selling a bargain bucket product for a bit less is still income. TSW2 routes are still £20 plus on average. They've made them seem obsolete themselves by rebranding the game rapidly .
Really this should of done this route later when the Electrification was completed towards reading and the 387s and IETs were running. That would of made it a bit better, although even then, I wouldn't expect the Thames Valley Branches....as Dovetail wouldn't be arsed even then
Sadly, any sort of GWR or FirstGroup (owner of GWR, Avanti etc) related content couldn’t be done as DTG I heard have lost the licences of making FirstGroup related TOCs. (And hence why the rivet games’ west Cornwall local was set in BR era instead of current time). The only reason I had got the Great Western Express route is really just I wanted some GWR branded trains. Plus you get the HST with MTU engines to play around with. Even though the route is short for it to be in (coincidence that both routes consisting of the HSTs are all in very short routes). And using the HST on different routes being that they usually run a lot of different services to different places. And even if DTG would return in making GWR related content (which probably won’t gonna happen in the near future sadly). I would like them to still keep the HSTs, as driving it only on the London to Reading route is far too short for driving in it and I personally would like them to have a more longer route of these HSTs to run on. If we are going for a IET experience then ECML would do it for you and probably more better if the next route is too short.
Awesome review, and I agree with every point of this video. The distant scenery is god awful in every part of the route. I never play this addon because of it.
@@DC4260Productions how often do you update the train Sim world if you’re on PC try verifying the files coz i’ve got the update for the HST straight away mind you I’m playing on Xbox DTG did put the patch notes but I do agree with you on some respects that DTG don’t fix some bugs, like, for example, the back door always open and you can’t close it on the class 377 on BML
Hi there, great video. I was going to say that A train haa to have already been made by dovetail (either for a route or as a loco on it’s own) for it to be used as AI traffic on routes such as, in this example, the GWE route; SWR traffic would not be seen at reading or take for instance an XC Voyager since neither of the latter have been made by dovetail. It is also the case, therefore, that they would spend a lot of time making trains which in the end would only be used as AI traffic, rather than any playable services, except possibly for a few miles or ECS movements
Interestingly, the first class sections remain on both GWR’s Class 165 and 166 sets, though at either end of their 166s, whereas only one is represented in game. It usually runs declassified now, however. As for Chiltern, none of their 165s have had first class for a long time, and they have quite different interiors to GWR’s sets thanks to a refurbishment.
I think it was more likely to do with the technological limitations at that time plus the fact that this was their first UK route on the then new TSW platform. The route was made for the original Train Sim World where pretty much every route was about 35 miles overall, it wouldn't be until some time into the TSW2 days that we actually started to see the average length pushed up to around 50 miles. Had events been different and this route hadn't made it to us until TSW3 or now TSW4, and considering that we now have 85 miles of track from Peterborough to Doncaster, I could imagine they might have pushed from Paddington out to perhaps Didcot or Swindon.
That's something I discovered when I was setting up to record brief scenes on the Training Centre route. It begs the question as to why there's a secret FGW livery still in the game.
@@DC4260Productions Dovetail I'm pretty sure explained and said the original version would of had FGW branding but GWR wanted it in the current brand of GWR, the FGW version was completed, so was left in storage until hackers got to those files.
It's a shame that DTG doesn’t do more with the gwr license. I do like the great western railway but DTG cutting this route to Reading made no sense. I hardly use the Class 43 because of it. I wouldn’t recommend this route either. It’s just too outdated and doesn’t offer much really to do
It feels as if the HST is only there for Ai services, since you've got more to do in the 166. I don't recall ever hearing a reason from DTG on why they cut the route at Reading. If they were to ever make a GWR route again, I'd love to see Exmouth to Paignton in TSW, complete with the Class 800 and Class 150/2 (or have it set a few years in the past and include the Class 143 Pacer as well).
@@DC4260Productions I live near the exmouth to Paignton line in the dawlish area if DTG ever made it for TSW I would be able to tell if it’s accurate or not
How hard is it to make quality routes that feels lived in and have variety? I proposed a route a while back that would require a lot of realism. Because it's an entire railroad. That being the Louisville and Indiana. Even provided links to some, if not many of the customers they serve and their all time roster, so we could for once have a complete railroad.
Entire railroads simply aren't possible, even for a much larger company. You'd be talking about a route that would be well over 150-200 gigabytes minimum. Recently a guy was annoyed on the forums because the Semmering Railway was only 60 something KM, and put a map of what he wanted instead. It was a map of the entire OBB Railjet network, from Vienna to Prague, Berlin, Frankfurt, Bolzano, Venice, Zurich and Budapest. Austria has over 6,000km of railways, as a single DLC, it would be impossible
I recently purchased the GWE in a Steam sale for just under £12 (NZ $25.89). I have been determined not to purchase it. But now it's being remastered, and is bound to have a price increase to £29.95 (NZ $64.61) I thought I would bite the bullet and purchase it. I must say, now I have it, £12 isn't even worth it. For me it's just a dlc loco pack with the HST and the C-166 that I can use in free roam. I just hope that DTG make a good job with the remaster? A extension, more layers, and a new loco being added would be very nice, and then maybe I can say.. £12 for this. What A Bargain!
I said in the video that I refuse to buy the Diesel Legends pack. Same goes for the WSR and WCL (in the latter's case, I'd just be far too angry throughout the video because of how much I hate the route concept).
This route introduced me into TSW but I never got it because A. My hardware was not compatible (using an old MacBook) and B. Everything was too expensive but I vowed myself I would get the game and this DLC in the future, now later with all of the problems mostly out of the way and actually owning TSW, I find this pack not really worth it and my enthusiasm has significantly died out, maybe SEHS completed screwed over my standards for what a DLC should be.
The route was a mess when it first came out 😂 from bugged train systems to bugged AI trains at stations causing me to rage quit after waiting 15 MINUTES
Most of DTG dlc’s lazy and poor as DTG do not care about making a good route all DTG care about money re some reason the class 166 got a extra variant that only spawns 1 car
Actually when it comes to the original FGW liveries. That's not DTGs choice. GWR wanted their new branding in the game, rather than their old branding. When it comes to things like that DTG have no say in the matter, they have to listen to whomever the license provider is

I think you are reading too much into it, for it’s time this was revolutionary technology, and was well ahead of its time. I still think it is very fun to drive, and to compare it to current TSW standards is unfair.
I would love DTG to come back and remake this route, with an extension towards Swindon or Oxford.

DTG did fix the HST numbers plus they added to livery designer back in July of this year
If that's the case, then why would I still be seeing five zeros on my end, especially when I don't have any mods installed?
When did you record the footage then?

Technically you can make a 165 if you take two of the FGW 166 you can make it into a 2 car variant in free roam
