I picked up this dead Sharp PC-6500 laptop from marketplace a while back.
Its a 286 with 1 Meg of RAM running DOS 5.0, and has a 20Mb hard drive.
It's finally time to see if it's fixable.
There's a few surprises and disappointments along the way.
Can we get it working?? Watch to find out!

I kind of love the look of this thing
Me too! All serious business with its grey on grey colour scheme.
that is a real antique, haha wow never knew it was like that
Its working becuase you took the battery out. It was likely shorted.
What a cliffhanger!
Not by design, I had really hoped to repair it! 😅
Oh awesome something to watch whilst I try to recover my 3ds SD card that decided to die right before I wanted to take a backup of it ;-;
Nice video and channel, hoping you make a followup! It's great to see so many new (to me) channels about "old crap" popping up. BTW, when you get to it again make sure to remove that green battery pack, since they're among the fleet of leaking things too.
Thanks for the feedback! Yes I forgot about the green battery, great advice. Hope you enjoy watching all my old crap 😆
Oh Also, leaking capacitors usually eat out traces and vias. Look for any capacitors you had replaced nearby the graphics chip, and check those traces. I bet theres one that went open.
Good idea, I’ll check it out.
I had another close look around the graphics chip. No sign of any damaged trace and I tested them all for continuity. Back to the drawing board 🤔
@@TheBasementChannel Hmmmmmm Interesting.... Isnt retro hardware fun? Rabbit hole!
Find out what the DIP switches do. I have a Datavue portable and one of the switches is to disable the built-in LCD if you only use it with an external display.
Yes I tried every possible combination
Please get that Varta out.
That green battery i would remove immediately, brca3use it will leak and kill the machine
Good reminder. I went back in and snipped it out 👍
