My dog has been diagnosed with early stage of kidney disease, he is now 15. He still eat normal, but I want to modify his diet. I have been feeding him fresh foods, like sweet potatoes, squash, beef or pork. I may have not to eliminate or maybe lessen his sweet potatoes intake. My vet just recommended this Royal Canin renal, but told her I need to make some research first.
my dog is on Royal my vet kind of gave me know choice I am going to follow what you guys are saying. Thanks
As my vet told me to buy royal canin renal or hills k/d, I hesitated because I read the ingredients and... I wondered. First of all, royal canin has double the amount of phosphorus than hills. Second, they have liver in them, which is known to contain more phosphorus, so why do they put it in there. Third, they contain added sugar. My vet told me that has to be in there to get a higher calorie-amount. Bullshit. Kidney patients often have diabetes too. Only because my dog is 16, I won't feed her sugar... And the prices are just a joke as it is mainly water and cheap side products of human food production.
So, thank you for analyzing and telling the truth. I hope you will continue filming videos. Much love, Nina.

This is nearly 30years ago . I had a dog the vet suggested LD diet tinned. She wouldn't touch it . I happened to have a tim of Chappie . It was nutrient and micro nutrient identical except for one micro nutrients....!! Go figure ..
Keep the vids coming Cam! Excellent!
My dog is on Royal Canin Urinary So dry food. She had been treated 3 months in a row for infection. We are going for ultrasound and and urine tests today. This time she has been on antibiotics non stop for 2 or three month. I had her on dehydrated meats and she finally lost 6 lbs. I hate this dog food because of all the garage in it and she gained the weight back. I want to start making humane grade food but my Vet is saying she has to be on it for life. Oh and she has polyps in her bladder, and Struvite crystals. Our main Lab results recommend testing for Cocci as it is suspected.so today I’m going to ask him to do this. My other dog had it a few years ago but the Vet says this dog couldn’t catch it. I’m going to insist he does it.
I had another dog who was bit in the kidney and the vet back then put her on boiled hamburger and white rice. She was on IV for 2 weeks and recovered. The Vet was sure her kidney wouldn’t recover. But it did and she lived for 10 more years.
Change vets...
Hey my dog is 13 years old lst month he has very high creatinine level now he is recovered but he is getting very weak because my vet said that he only have to eat renal food and fruits and he is only eating fruits he is not renal food. Can you please suggest something?
Hi can you suggest me renal diet .. how did your futr baby recover from kidney problem? Can share your advice to me pleased
Will you review origen, specifically their grain free regional red formula? New subscriber, thank you!
My dog died of pancreatitis eating royal canin renal for more than 6 months. DON'T BUY ROYAL CANIN. I wished I saw your video earlier. Thank you for sharing your information, all dog owners need to know this
So Sorry for your loss… I read the ingredients at my Vets office and it included meat by products..That was a big no for me.
@@rosemarycatalano2914thanks, you're better off cooking for your own dogs really. Most of these kibbles are trash. I cooked for my dog previously for 5 years straight. I should've continued doing so.
so very helpful!
do you think wolfworthy is suitable ?? i've heard it has a high fat content
Cam can you do a review of Akela working dog food thanks great vids👍
Would you recommend pumpkin seeds for a puppy or should you use chemical wormers until they are more developed?
I lost my Staffie to kidney failure. The vets tried to sell me this crap but I just did my research and made it for him. He was fed raw with kibble his whole life.
No kibble for my next best friend!
Thank you very very much for your video. Please keep up what you are doing you helped a lot with your information.
Do you know if any of these could also apply to cats?
Thank you, happy to have helped. Yes, it applies to cats.
I agree that most of the ingredients that go into a processed food such as that sound ghastly, and pretty much none would be seen as human grade. But, certain parts that humans wouldn't touch are perfectly, and sometimes uniquely, healthy. Poultry heads for example. I'm in Latin America at present, with my dog of 10 years. She gets an all fresh meat, fruit and vegetable diet, of which fresh chicken or turkey heads make up a significant portion. The necks are frequently included, and it offers the dog lots of small, chewable bone and sinew, as well as eyes, brain, tongues, etc.. And it's typically extremely cheap as well.
Man keep up what you are doing.. Longer more ingredient based videos like this are awesome. Maybe try more breed specific or high drive menus.
Top marks!
Thanks brother, appreciate the support.
Excellent well explained vids something informed owners have know for long time... hills, royal cabin,Purina all crap! Vets love to recommend these 🤨😔💩thanks keep vids coming appreciated.

What food give my dog who have gastrointestinal? My vet say give royal canin
Why would feeding out pets food we don’t consume? Seems highly sustainable to me, where else is it going to go?
I’ve sent you a message on your website, I desperately need help with my dog, she had a large bladder stone removed, vet thinks it’s uric acid but is awaiting analysis, she had struvite crystals in march and oxalate crystals in sept, stone was removed last week. Vet is wanting me to put her on purina renal or science diet and I’m not wanting her to have these foods. I need some advice 🙏🏻
Hey there, I think I've replied. If not, email help@thedognutritionist.com
Wish I'd found your channel earlier. Like most dog owners I thought I was looking after my pooch by feeding her a top quality grain free dog kibble and had nothing to worry about but couldn't understand why I had to take her for dentals and tooth extraction too many times. The answer I got from the vets was its a problem with the breed. Yeh right! Then she died at an early age of kidney failure. I was fuming so did my research and realised what utter rubbish this industry puts into dog food and it should be regulated. Needless to say my new puppy is on raw dog food and she loves it!

Lots of water for your pet saves them from the kidney. Speaking from experience 👍❤🐕

So don't take your advice as medical advice but also don't trust my Veterinarian when they recommend this food. But also I should consult my Veterinarian before changing foods... Basically impossible to make the right decision for my dog. I can spend whatever I have to on dog food, but I cannot prepare meals myself. I need dry and canned food for my dog who was just diagnosed with kidney disease... After watching this video, I still have no idea what to buy instead of royal canin.
I'm trying not to get sued. Your dog needs fresh food. I am releasing a video in the next week or two on homemade renal support diets.
@@thedognutritionist I see, I see. Well I look forward to watching it. For now I found Dr Harvey's Canine Health. I just need to decide what kind of protein to add to it.

@@badandbussin did Dr Harveys work for you and your pet?
He is correct, you should consult your vet, if only to let him know what you intend to do. Weruva makes wet dog food that is low in calcium and phosphorus, which should help with the kidney issues. If you must feed dry, Now Fresh, a Canadian company makes a low phosphorus and calcium dry dog food. Good luck.
