You absolutely have to approach it that way. My mom loved to reminisce and could remember things from the past but could not remember short term things at all. It was so hard to figure out at times. I miss her every day.
Her presentation style is amazing! She balances humor and deep emotions so well... Feeling inspired to write some thank you notes after watching this ❤
It's hard to think about my childhood, there were a lot of unhappy times but the people who shaped me did it by being consistent which meant everything to me because my home life was so unpredictable
The way she described "borrowing glasses" as a metaphor for learning from others... that’s such a cool way to look at life. Makes me think of all the wisdom I’ve gotten from people around me.
That is a good thing. That means you want to let someone important now your feelings and that is the most amazing gift to give. Don't be so hard on yourself. Think about next steps/
I don't normally get emotional during tedx talks I swear lol but this one really got to me... I've been having a lot of issues with my mother recently (after marrying someone of a different faith) to the point where we don't even really talk anymore and I think hearing stories of someone who offered such unconditional love just has made me really sad at how everything turned out
Never thought about how getting food for someone could be a way of showing love but it makes sense, whenever I'm at work and someone asks if I want a coffee I always think it's so sweet of them
The way she talked about her mom’s dementia felt so real. I went through that with my grandma, it’s tough, but there are still little moments of joy if you look for them.
There are for certain moments of joy. Sometimes we would both crack up together and that was wonderful. Thank you for watching and taking time to provide feedback. It means a lot.

I absolutely do know what you mean lol. Not everyone is a real table dancer. But yes, do special things that help you strengthen a connection with those you love most.
Hey, I danced on a table once or twice - Once in college and once with my mom when I was nine. It was fun! See how I remember when I did it? It stood out.
I love how she took those stories from her book "The World According to Bess", and shared an important message to others. Today, everyone is always running and not paying attention. Thank you, Bonnie, for beautifully helping people to understand what really matters. Job well done. 👏
Bonnie this resonates with me. I'll keep your message in my heart as I work to remind others how much they mean to me. YOU impacted my college life in many important ways, but most of all by being my friend. Cheers to you.
my dad passed away when I was way too young to really get or express this kind of stuff but it made me think of him and remember some really nice times, thank you
I think we all have regrets and we don’t realize that until we start to experience death. He wouldn’t want you to have regrets. Those I have regrets about I talk to when I pray at night. Just wish I would get that sign from my mom. ❤
She said it a little more harsh then that, but I know you got the message. Always know your value. You deserve good things. Thank you for watching the talk. It means so very much.
Bonnie , I recently lost a very close friend of many years. Luckily, we spoke almost daily, and in our last conversation, he told me he loved me, and I told him the same. Watching your TEDx talk deeply moved me, and your heartfelt message and the life lessons you shared from your mother, Bessie, resonated profoundly. Your emphasis on gratitude and expressing love to those who have shaped us reminded me of the importance of cherishing and acknowledging our loved ones while we can. Thank you for sharing such a personal and impactful story. Warmest regards, Skip

What an amazing and inspiring talk. Bonnie makes us laugh and makes us cry by sharing insightful and sometimes irreverent advice from her mom but most importantly shares how she took the opportunity to tell her mom how that advice had shaped her life. I imagine this Ted Talk could have a ripple effect. Maybe the stirring of emotions will propel each of us to tell at least one or two important people in our lives how much they have impacted us. This isn’t just a warm, humorous collection of stories; it’s a crucial reminder. Act now, before it’s too late. Thank you, Bonnie!
Thank you so much. It is a universal message that everyone across the world can relate to and do easily. Thank you for your support. I love my JC family.
I was fortunate enough to see this talk Live, but it was just as good and heartwarming watching it here on UA-cam! Bonnie gets you laughing and crying a little as she shares the impact her mom had on her life. She also helps us all remember the importance of telling others how much we love them and appreciate them while they're with us! This is a great talk to share with friends & family of all ages!
Something I've learnt recently is how to act on feelings of gratitude and love in the moment by just expressing it. Giving someone a hug or telling them you think they're great. Doesn't have to be some huge grand gesture but just an acknowledgement
That means so much! I truly appreciate your comment and sentiments. This has been a dream come true and if it makes someone do something positive for another, it is totally worth it! Be well!
Phenomonal job and message. I laughed, I cried and you reminded me of so many wonderful memories of and with my own mom. Life lesson # 9 and life is one big connection really resonated. This is a lesson that I try to impart on my son as I believe this is a lesson that is lost with the younger generation. Talk about connections, my wife worked with your mom at a retailer in the Harford Mall and your mom would always remember my wife when we would see your mom out and about. Finally, I also think while your message speaks to telling others of their impact, it also speaks to the fact that we can never understimate our own impact on others, no matter how big or small - so treat people with kindness, give them a hand up if needed and connect with them. Thanks for sharing!
Amazing Ted talk Bonnie! Thanks for sharing such an important and heartfelt message about letting the people in our lives who have loved us and supported us know that they matter. That we love them too. And that there's no time like the present to show our gratitude!

What she said about her moms love language being burgers and fries was so relatable. I rarely heard my nan say she loved me but she picked me up from school a lot and would always make me honey on toast and let me have cookies and hot chocolate. I this talk made me think of her ❤

The part about all the things her and her brother said to her on her deathbed really made me tear up, especially the part about how she mattered. That's definitely something everyone wants to hear/know
That bit about McDonald's being a love language really got me. My dad used to get me nuggets if he picked me up after school. Maybe that was part of his love language

Thank you so much Greg and what a blessing it has been to work with you and watch the podcast grow. Thanks for your ongoing support and I look forward to more great things together.
It's hard to realize that stuff in the moment I think, it's only afterwards when you're reflecting on the course of your life that you go "ahh yup, that moment there."
We all have special relationships with someone who has made a difference. I also had a few special teachers and friends. Teachers make such huge impacts and I am grateful I had some who truly helped shape my life.
It is timeless and one of the best pieces of advice we can give our children. My mom only went to the ninth grade, but she knew what I had to do in order to be independent and she would tell me and all of my girlfriends this when we were teenagers. It stuck.
This makes me think of my granma and how she was on her de*thbed... not talking but just present while we all said things to her. It's hard to explain but it was a really powerful moment that I don't think I'll ever forget

To be honest, I found some parts a bit too sentimental, but I can’t deny that the message is important. We should all take the time to let people know they matter.
There's someone in my life who has made a huge impact on me but he's kind of a tough cookie and I don't really know how to engage with him in a meaningful way like that
What if it's someone whose impacted you in a really big way but you're not necessarily close enough to really let them know? Like it might be more awkward than appreciated?
Life really is one big connection, we need to nurture and strengthen through the important people in our life, maybe even the strangers.
And the holidays and this week is a great time to do it! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch my talk. It means a lot.
Gran, wasn't the easiest person, but the life advice she gave will stay with me forever.
Cherish it. You are lucky to have had a good Gran.
Watching a loved one go through dementia is rough, but like she says, you have to cherish the bright spots when everything else feels heavy
You absolutely have to approach it that way. My mom loved to reminisce and could remember things from the past but could not remember short term things at all. It was so hard to figure out at times. I miss her every day.

We never really realize how much another person impacts us until sometimes after they are gone.
I’ve definitely been guilty of not saying thank you enough but I didn't expect to get so emotional about it now that I'm thinking about it all

The way she talks about her mom is so heartwarming. Reminds me to appreciate the wisdom our elders have to offer. Great life lessons here!
And they have a lot of wisdom to offer for sure. Thanks so much or watching the talk. I appreciate it.
Loved her moms advice about finding a real partner, not "half an a$s" - life’s way too short to settle for someone who doesn’t have your back.

You can work through this. Where there is love, there is hope and the mother-child bond is complex and very deep.

I relate so hard to the mom worrying about being lonely. That's exactly how my dad is with me.
This was for certain the most real and raw moment I had as her daughter when she said that. Still brings tears to my eyes. 😢
The bit about animals and empathy got me thinking. Maybe that's why I trust my dog-loving friends more. They just get it, ya know?

To be honest, I found some parts a bit too sentimental, but I can’t deny that the message is important. We should all take the time to let people know they matter.
There's someone in my life who has made a huge impact on me but he's kind of a tough cookie and I don't really know how to engage with him in a meaningful way like that
Man, I wish I had the guts to dance on tables. Maybe I'll start with my kitchen counter and work my way up 😂
Yes like tell that you love your FAMILY so much 😍🥰 like EVERYDAY 🤍🤍
Thank you! I totally agree! Thank you for your support.
Thank you for watching and your time and feedback! Appreciate it!
YES. Every day. Even when they don't respond back lol. As long as they know your love for them.
Dad. But I'll never get to.
You don't need to let go. Just remember that he wants you to be happy.
What if it's someone whose impacted you in a really big way but you're not necessarily close enough to really let them know? Like it might be more awkward than appreciated?
I feel like my love language is sending memes at 2AM lol
Hah! That is a fine language, too. Thank you for watching the talk. It was a dream come true.
@@BonnieHabyan great talk....
@@eric-tran Thanks. That means so much. Thank you for taking the time to let me know. Life is fragile.
