- Official HD Video for "I Wouldn't Want to be Like You" by The Alan Parsons Project
`I Wouldn't Want To Be Like You' was the first single from `I Robot' - a 1977 studio album by The Alan Parsons Project. The video depicts Alan uncovering an ancient mask to reveal a robot figure (played by Eric Woolfson) that comes alive. It is then involved in a game of cat and mouse with Alan until...well you need to watch the video to see what finally happens. The uptempo song features Lenny Zakatek on vocals, Eric Woolfson on Rhodes and Wurlitzer and the regular trio of Ian Bairnson, David Paton and Stuart Tosh on guitars, bass and drums.

@PHIL R. It’s a guy from GTA V
@PHIL R. GTA V stands for Grand Theft Auto 5, a video game featuring this song
@@olivierrivard9782 Which station? I’ve played the game for so long but only stay on Los Santos Rock Radio
😂😂😂
Inclusion of this song in GTA V is genius. Now countless millions of younger generation players were exposed to this classic which they would probably never discover otherwise.
Exactly!
I’m one of them
I picked up "I Robot" in a record store just because the cover was striking to me (and I have a sort of sympathetic thing for robots). Some of us would have. :)
Very rare that I pick up a record out of the blue like that, but it was compelling. And I was not disappointed.
They would have anyways. One of their other songs was in GTA Vice City Stories
For real. That and Yes with "Roundabout"! And don't forget the KILLER soundtrack on San Andreas.
One of the best guitar solos ever recorded. Short, sweet and to the point. Anyone else think so?
I was thiking the same thing about the solo in Games People Play.. must’ve been something they we’re aiming for in some way.. amazing solos that’s for sure
@@supercrazy03 - Yes, the solo on Games People Play is definitely a good one. The last half is a pretty good walk around the fretboard. The first half definitely seems to have some influence from the boys in (the band) Boston. Definitely a very Tom Scholz double harmony lead vibe.
Actually, his solo on Nothing Left To Lose (in the Turn Of a Friendly Card suite) is not only my favorite of his, but one of my all-time favorite solos period.
Yeah. It's up there. It's simple. It's cool. It's good. I do agree that it's one of the catchier licks. Definitely jammin'. One of the best? I don't know about that. Top 50. I'll give it that.
The sax solo in Don't Answer Me is also great.
Futuristic even by today's standards

This song was a hit in 1977...the year I graduated from high school. Hadn't listened to it in years until it was on MindHunter. Brought back a ton of memories!

Both the song and the album - and such a brilliant, understated intro! Those opening, numinous harmonics are like a Pink Floyd outtake... :) - old soundmates.
This song is freaking brilliant. What a groove
Pre-MTV videos are so interesting and bizarre. Love this and the song is legendary!
APP made a better “i, Robot” movie than the one Will Smith was in.
So true. I was about 11 when MTV debuted and I remember truly original videos that just kind of popped up. Works of art.
The most underrated band ever.
Certainly ONE OF.
MOST under-rated is easily Crack The Sky.
Listen to their eponymous 1975 album & enjoy.
Most underrated band is Klaatu
Easily !!
Styx klaatu is really good but a little too crazy for my taste. APP is way more dignified and mature imo
Not sure if they are so underrated.
This great band deserves more credit...
Good things are usually not so well-known.
You two dumbasses Alan parsons project is a very famous band
Ziad Jamal this and it's actually not a band in a classic definition
Svetlana Model way more credit!!!
The Alan Parsons Project got plenty of credit and accolades. They were a studio group only and were considered a little avantgarde at the time (mid 70s to mid 80s) thus never really broke seriously into Top 40 radio....why much of "the masses" haven't heard much of them. However their musical impact was profound. Alan Parsons himself was producer/engineer on Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon". That right there is all the credibility you need in the big scheme of things.

...Ricky, it wasn't just the parties, every day in the 70's was much better than it is now! Even the bad days when we had to sit in line for gas because our stupid President (carter) had 'made up' the gasoline shortage and given away our hard earned Panama Canal...We were more mellow, the music was great, things still made sense, liars and crooks were still dealt justice (except President Nixon!), radio was still mostly AM and genres were non-existent (we heard country, rock, reggae, soul, r & b, jazz, blues, pop, folk, etc. all on the same radio stations {until FM came out}), there was NO crack or crackheads, the girls hadn't started doing plumber's butt low-waist jeans or tattoos over their whole bodies yet, 104 octane gas for my motocross bike (which I used to ride short stretches of public street to reach my various riding areas on) was 27 cents/gallon, everybody had a van [best vehicles EVER], good weed could be sampled and purchased from and shared with friends with no guns drawn, we still pledged allegiance to the flag in school, stood with hats removed, right hand over our hearts, and sang along with our National Anthem....it WAS a time that those of us fortunate enough to have lived thru would gladly give up a kidney to go back and live again! Going back now and knowing what we know now, that'd be something worth a kidney and maybe one eye too !!! : )'
i thought in the background at the beginning it said cock flick.

And considered state-of-the-art at the time, despite the fact that it likely had no more than 1 MB of on-board memory. According to Wikipedia, one of the first Univac computers ran at a clock speed of just 2.25MHz and could process data at the rate of 1905 bits per second.

The fact that this song came out in 1977 at the height of Punk, I always wondered if this was an anti-Punk statement--defiantly Prog in the year of Punk--they were saying, "I don't care what you do, I wouldn't want to be like you--PUNKS!"
I like that theory. Punks could even be the "robots"...the "nonconformists". What a laugh. In 1977 the nonconformists were listening to this. So who were the punks then, eh?
