- Official HD Video for "Games People Play" by The Alan Parsons Project
`Games People Play' was the second single from the Alan Parsons Project's 5th studio album The Turn Of A Friendly Card and was released in 1980. The song peaked at number 16 in the US charts and has remained one of the APP's most popular singles ever since. Lenny Zakatek was chosen to sing the upbeat song about the dangers of gambling and can be seen in the video alongside APP stalwarts Stuart Elliott on drums, David Paton and Ian Bairnson on guitars. APP founder and songwriter Eric Woolfson (on keyboard) and producer Alan Parsons (at the mixing desk) also appear in the video. The title came from a psychology book of the same name, which Eric's wife Hazel was reading at the time.

So true. All perfection about this song.

So did the new guys. They respected the song and re-made it right. Lenny was the king
Is that who did the vocals?
If you were listening to Alan Parsons in the 70's we are friends.
Of course! On my first pair of speakers: Radio Shack 3 way towers. Still have them and sounds amazing! 43 years later…
Hello, friend. lol
And the 80's

So fortunate to have been a part of music during the 70's and 80's ❤

Lenny Zakatek is a underrated singer. The guy kicks ass.
salozmen29 it’s because he wasn’t the face of the band, sad to say.
that's why Parsons and Wolfson picked him as vocalist on so many records...they had to make "arrangements with "XYZ Records" to get him on the albums. They found talent
And HOT
No, he isn't. He's just not very well-known. Not the same thing.

Love their Songs especially the "I ROBOT" #album and their debut, "TALES OF MYSTERY..." should in Everyone's personal #Libraries!
It is time (no pun intended!) that Alan Parsons was named to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He certainly deserves it!
Damn right!
Or maybe someone should open the real rock and roll hall of fame that does not have pop or rap acts in it but actual people who were in rock and roll. That is still a very diverse group of people.
Hell, his work on Dark Side of the Moon alone should get him in the Hall.
@@bergerfry Was gonna say this. Anybody who worked on Dark Side (and Alan was lead engineer) should be inducted!
There are many great groups and singers that have still not made it to the HoF. I recently found out that America and Kansas are also not in the Hall.

One of my dad's favorite songs, I remember riding in his Datsun 280Z turbo and he would always hard shift when the drums came in. Laid him to rest Aug 24th 2011. Miss you pops....
LOL. I used to hope to God that Heart's "Barracuda" didn't come on the car radio when I was in traffic driving my dad's 1974 Dodge Charger. Just hearing that chugging bass rhythm at the start made me want to mash the pedal, which happened a few times.
Your Dad had great taste...👌
Same here! My dad played rhythm guitar and Loved Alan parsons and bands like ToTo and QuaterFlash. He really loved The Cars and especially Rush. He drove a 79 Celica GT liftback 5spd when i was a kid in the early 80s and while he was a very subdued man you can see his Demeanor change when He listened to his jams lol. We laid him to rest at a young 58 in 2012.
This is the most heart warming comment I have EVER read.
You are a good man ,your father is 20 year old in heaven.
A young Lenny Zakatek...he's about 73 now, and still performing. And still exuberant and listenable.
Joseph Rotello-IF, that's who singing here? I think this guy is very cute here? He looks like a young James Spader, to me.

If you like this song and are not familiar with the Alan Parson's Project, do yourself a huge favor and take a deep dive into their legacy! They remain my favorite artists from a time when true masters of the art abounded. Eric Woolfson and Alan Parsons together made music like Bach and Beethoven would have if they'd lived in the 1970's. Pure genius, and pure ecstasy to listen to!
I concur. Tales of Mystery and Imagination....masterpiece! The Raven still gives me chills listening to it.
These Guys Made Some Great Friggin Music. So Many Hits To List. They Need To Be In The Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame.
They're one of my favourites; being a toddler when this came out had everything to do with it. Eye In The Sky and You Lie Down With Dogs (I liked how the sound is different when they sing "you're gonna get something but you do what you please" like it's done with a cheaper mic or something. Kid me loved the effects.
So basically it was the synthesizers, the notes they use that have that cool late 70s early 89s flair, and vocoder use like in The Voice.
(On the inside of the jacket of Tales of Mystery and Imagination, it states that the vocoder can only be found at Abbey Road!)
Breakdown and wouldn't wanna be like you are my faves..and this one of course
Agree. Unfortunately they never got the recognition in the UK that they got in other countries. In fact it wasn't until Sirius and Eye in the Sky that the British public started to sit up and take notice - largely because Sirius was just an awesome piece for introducing spectacular events and was widely used. Some science documentaries in the late 70's did use some of the material from I'Robot but generally the band was ignored by the mainstream music industry and radio which was more interested in promoting punk. I went to a special audiovisual screening in a cinema on the release of Pyramid in 1978 and was hooked. Thankfully, the rest of the world took them seriously and they went on to great commercial success in Europe and South America. My personal favourite albums were Turn of a Friendly Card and Pyramid.
This song is a masterpiece and Lenny Zakatek a terrific singer... one of my favourite songs ever!!!❤

This song is sooo dark lyrically, yet so musically uplifting. It's a curious dichotomy.
All of Parsons' music haď really dystopian lyrics. Pretty jarring, when you realized what you're rocking out to!
thejollyjumbuck That's what makes it so good; and knowing how to blend sounds together instrumentally.
The charm of The Alan Parsons Project, their darkest sounding songs have no words but their brightest sounding songs have dark subject matter. Seriously, contrast Sirius and Eye in the Sky and you will see.
I am well aware of that. I've owned "Eye In The Sky" when it was released in 1982.
SpooferJahk. Interesting how they chose different themes for each album, isn't it?

Preach it brother!!! Alan Parsons doesn’t get the credit he deserves. He helped make one of the greatest albums ever DSOTM. Extremely talented man. Lenny’s vocals punch a huge hole in the stratosphere. The only thing better would be if Lenny was a part of the Kyle Gas Project
Heck, they don't enough credit for their live performances either, it was super awesome!
The diversity of APP's songs always amazed me, and the production / engineering, OMG. Kind of reminds me of Steely Dan in regards to perfection being ultimate and use of session / studio talent that may have gone unheard had it not been for APP's inviting them to be on his brilliant albums. So sad when AP passed. He wasn't that old. We tend to think, at the time when they are around, nothing like that is supposed to happen, they just can't leave us like that. But putting myself in his place I would be happy to know his music has found new, younger fans too. He left an astounding legacy and that's what living the dream is all about, right?

Why does Alan Parsons Project look like a bunch of NASA Engineers started a band?
Unfortunately that hurt their airplay on MTV in the early 80’s and that’s why they sort of became a widely popular cult band (if that makes sense). These guys were old school musicians and didn’t sell out, so they never got that mass appeal they should have gotten.

No doubt. Other than the keyboard lick sounding a bit dated, this could be mistaken for a contemporary release.
/ok the video and the fuzzy recording gives it away. but other than those.

But....There's another major aspect of this song that would give away it's age, and prevent it from fitting in with modern rock: Its got a great lead guitar solo(2 actually). Quality lead guitar work is basically non existent anymore, unfortunately.
This take, as good as it is, was not the album track. It is a type of "Kaytel" version,if you know what I mean. The lead guitar solo is not complete. The bridge is shortened also. Still a great song; just not fully played here.

Looking at this video is like taking a time machine to go back in time. It is literally a piece of music history coming to life again. No computers, no vocal autotuning, just real instruments and real musicians, in the hands of one of the greatest sound engineers in the world. This is what real Music is about
well let's not glorify this period either, over-dubbing, multi-track playback, reverb, auto-mixing, distortion, metronomic beats, auto-leveling, auto-gain, auto equalizing, just to name a few were all very popular, used on this track, and certainly are artificial enhancements to the creation of music.

Greatest prog rock band of all time!
I remember listening to this song around 1979. I am my parents youngest child and had just graduated high school. I remember wondering how my parents were going to manage the transition into empty nesters. Now, I am the empty nester, looking into a shorter future. Mom and Dad, you did great. Thanks for showing me how it's done.
❤❤❤ forgot how much I love this song❤❤❤❤

This was so good that the situation of music today makes me want to cry.
Shut up you dumbfuck.
That’s what happens when art is corporatized and quickly becomes no longer art, but a money making machine that follows a psycho-methodology designed to make people stupid and buy their cookie cutter garbage. It also happened to nearly every pro sport you care to mention. And it’s why anyone over 40 knows contemporary pop is all manufactured shite.
@@MIKECNW The situation of debate skills today makes me want to cry.
@@TJ_Mc Shut up.
@@dewfall56 if people like it, it's good. leave people to their tastes. same to you, cesar gil
