I am 66. I put this on repeat for 5 times. Then I do my running on the spot to the beat. At the end I am beat but happy. Makes my mind young at least. Who will be able to say that of today's music decades from now?

I'm 56 and we most definitely had the greatest music ! It was so good the bands of today are remaking their own versions of it, and why not? Your not going to make anything any better?
Just remind yourself every morning that unless you want to, you won't die until you've had your fill of ALL the songs in the world. This works; as long has I'm mentally , emotionally & physically healthy, relatively pain-free & interested in living life I'm here til I'm 103. (I went through the hellish nightmare of terminal brain cancer and was given a life span of 6 weeks. Since I had a 2-year-old daughter I decided to fight.) 25 years later I'm still here, listening to great music like this! From the bottom of my heart I give you blessings, comfort and hope, and courage too. As long as you want to, live. Natalie :)
70 years old woman from South Africa. This song is still as good as it was when I bought the single back in the day. We old timers still had the best music.

Underrated? In my country this really great song became a No. 1 hit and was 14 weeks under the best 5.... in Germany :) And I am happy to meet here more fans of Sniff´n´the Tears !
Yet another ageless, timeless classic from the 70s. Sounds just as fresh and cool now as it did when it was first released, and probably will do so in another 40 years. 70s was an amazing decade for music.
I honestly kind of agree with you like MOST PEOPLE ARE OLD AND STUPID but the late 70s and early 80s are going to be remembered like the 1920s. Can someone say this out loud? Music from the late 70s and early 80s will be remembered like the 1920s.
No, it doesn't sound just as fresh. Not even close. This is my first time hearing this song (06-07-2021) and without knowing anything about it I could have easily told you that this song was definitely recorded in the 70's. That's not to say it's bad in any way, shape, or form. Songs and music SHOULD capture the 'sound's and 'feel' of the era in which they were created. A song in which no one could feel the 50's, or hear the 60's, etc. would just be missing that certain something that makes music magical.
@Kneon Knight I love that song.... I also like Love is like Oxygen. I have quite an eclectic playlist on my channel called "Videos I highly recommend." Honestly I like a lot of songs. But all very good songs 👍 (I even made a couple videos, I really like The Little River Band, so that was definitely one I wanted to make)
Being 18 years old and driving down to the South Jersey shore in the middle of the night with this playing on the radio. Simple pleasures good times from the past.

Come on folks, admit it. This is just about the greatest one hit wonder ever recorded. You can debate it, and yes it lies in the ear of the listener. But a gem like this can't be beat. Case closed.
I'm taken right back to being 16 years old. I met Stephanie, she was 17. She was unbelievably gorgeous, her parents had bought her a new car, a Toyota Supra. I remember blasting this song, her and I singing and we didn't have a care in the world.
Gotta love a song where all of the words can be understood and the instruments are clearly discernible in the music. Beautiful song, brings back memories of simpler times and too many loved ones lost to the march of time.
The 70's truly was the best time to be a teen. The music, the clothes, the freedom, the BEST weed! I think of some of the shit we used to do and am totally surprised I'm still alive. These tunes bring the memories rushing back! I miss those care free easy days.
I was just a kid in the 70s and a teen in the 80s. I have to disagree with you on the weed part- The stuff we had in the 80s was awesome! Long story short- Joined the Army, spent 21 years, was part of the cannabis study by the VA for PTSD (4 combat tours) 1 year into retirement. The shit they have now blows EVERYTHING away!!! I get it medicinally in the mail for PTS! First they try to get you killed, then they get you high! My friends are jealous!🤣
“Driver’s Seat” by Sniff’n the Tears was released when I was 21 years-old and I fell in love with the song. I’m 65 years-old now, still love it more than ever, consider it one of my all-time favorite songs and still listen to it regularly. Contains my all-time favorite lyric, “Jenny was sweet” and another lyric that always brings a tear to my eye, “I remember my time with you”. This song is interwoven with the fibers of my life. Thanks for posting :^)
Driving around looking for guys to meet in 1983 and this song pops on and everybody, at the "mall crawl" was digging the beat and vibe that this song created in the listeners minds ...
Theres one called Bolero composed by Maurice Ravel. More of a symphony than a song… but it makes you feel for the drummer keeping the beat the entire time
I have actually heard this song today or yesterday afternoon on bbc radio 2 by Steven Wrights big show. And i was hooked. And he said afterwards something like, oldies, and 80s. And i was like what??? Wait a fucking minute. Checked it up afterward. Just could not believe what i was seeing......I actually thought that it has just been released now or something similar. OMG...... UNBELIEVABLE.
@@cecillambert8727 - It's actually really good. Fact is, this song right here almost instantly became so larger than life none of their other songs got any airplay. At least a few could have, and probably should have. Several of the band members left the group right after their first album. Their 2nd album was released with a new lineup but sadly contained no hits. Anyway I've had Fickle Heart in my collection for many decades now. Worth the price of admission for this one song alone, but it's a pretty decent album in my opinion.

A cassette player!!!!! Ah yes that's how music in the car was meant to be heard. Loudly and over and over by simply pressing rewind and waiting patiently for the beginning of the tune. Remember? The hell with Bluetooth, the hell with immediate song retrieval, there is something to be said about that worn out tape deck that never failed you, until it decided to eat your tape which you had to roll back in place pronto. Now don't get me started on mixed tapes.
Wife and I were out with friends at a local pub. This song came on and we all got up and danced our asses off. Oh there was no dance floor but that didn’t matter to us. The song was electric and we were having fun. Great tune, period.

RIP Todd.😢 I obviously didn't know him, But your comment makes him live on! He had good taste in tuneage! Hope he's forever in a better driver's seat..YEAH. 🎶
Same age as myself and the 70s were just such a magical time.....I always loved this tune still do to this day and 1978 was a great year musically xx better times......
This song has everything. Voice, lyrics, piano, drums, guitars, saxophone and an amazing song. There is no other song like this ever made. And im 62 and will never get tired of listening to it. Just like Into the Night or I go Crazy.
The strength and weakness of this song is it's just too good. Impossible to follow up. It was always destined to be a one hit wonder. For these few minutes, they were on fire. It sums up a moment in time whilst, at the same time, being timeless. One of my all time favourites.
Trouble is, if you lived through the 60's to 80's there was just so many like it. Think 'Black Betty' 'Copperhead Road' 'What I like about You' 'Turning Japanese' 'My Sharona' (maybe) 😂. The list is endless when you give it some thought. Back in the day there had to be talent, before there was a contract. How many hits since 2000 will still be listened to in 30 yrs time, when so many of the younger generation are turning to listen to this music already, usually because their parents, or even older in my case, are still listening to it.
The Knack were definitely NOT a one hit wonder. Good Girls Don't, Frustrated, She's So Selfish are just a few that come to mind. True that My Sharona was their biggest hit, but they had quite a few others as well.
God Damn! I was 18 when this song was played every 20 minutes that summer. A confluence of awesomeness. Maybe 'cause it was the summer after high school, but also because this song is still incredible!
The 70s music will put you on another planet that no one will understand unless you have a love of the 70s music. You don't need drugs or alcohol to appreciate the best music ever. God....take me back to the 70s and leave me there....I'll be just fine.
This song holds a very special place in my heart because of a dream I had about a decade ago. I was driving my dad's 76 Olds Cutlass on a deserted highway. It was night time. My brother Jaime is in the passenger seat. On the horizon I could see the road angled straight up to the sky. Next thing I know we are up above the clouds and my brother and I were pumping our fists in the air having the time of our lives while this song played on the car radio. My favourite dream.. it replays in my mind so vividly and this song was the music track to that dream. It will forever remind me of my brother whenever I hear it. He left us this past March. I miss him so fkn much! Amazing piece of music. No idea why it was the song playing on the car radio in my dream but it was the perfect choice. ~Til' we meet again, my brother, I'll be missing you
I remember this song very well!!! It was 1979 and disco was still disgustingly popular. I kept wondering whatever became of real rock and roll songs. When I first heard "Driver's Seat" I said to myself "Now there's a real rock and roll song!" I thought Sniff 'n' the Tears were going to be ridiculously successful but this was their only hit. As someone once said "if you're going to be a one hit wonder, THIS is the hit you want to have!!!"
With all due respect,it's a lot easier to'hold down a beat' if U're playing theeeeee most basic of kits,( kick, snare,hi hats) with no distractions like toms, floor tom's,roto tom's etc....the better the drummer, the smaller the kit!! Tubbs
I’ve played drums for 23 years and I’m no pro but a 6 year old could play this beat on a hi hat, bass and snare. While he’s keeping the beat in time, let’s see him do same beat (although boring for 2 hours) for a full 2 hour concert. That would be impressive. Serious not mocking this song but I played this when I was 9 years old on a monkees kids drum set.
Always loved this video and song.Back then I thought backup singer Noel McCalla was too cool with his shades and antics. And the guitarists looked like Scott Baio and nailed it with his distinct sound. The singer had a voice so surreal sounding that was sooo perfect for this song. Then the drummer....well he was without a doubt the driving force behind one of the best songs and videos ever.
I remember when this song first came out. Still hard to believe it was never a bigger hit. Love how the drummer keeps that steady highly charged beat. Nice touch.

It was what if band the lead guitarist keyboardist and drummer quit 3 months after this song was released the drummer became popular and has gone on to play in a few big bands
Big rebirth for fantastic tune. The energy, the rhythm, the words, the drummer, the base guy, the back pup singer in the shades and that synthasizer. They nailed it.
Those shades on the back up singer were called glacier glasses. They were a short time fade in that era. Notice the light blockers on the outer part of the lenses. Didn't do much for peripheral vision :)

Same here - I guess it didn't get a lot of airplay in late-70s San Francisco. But 'Boogie Nights' is one of my favorite films, and I've combed through the all of the songs in it - this is one of the definite standouts.
Fabulous movie, and soundtrack. However the soundtrack doesn't have every song in the movie. I still have it on VHS 💗 good times. You want something that will blow your hair back. Get the Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway album and drop the needle when boogie nights starts, with the movie muted. Absolutely cool, and disturbing kinda too.

I close my eyes and it takes me back to September 1979, a junior in high school driving to my 1st job. Beautiful memories when things seemed so simple.
This song is the perfect "bridge" song from the 1970s to the 1980s - has elements of what made both decades' music popular and even has a bit of a 60s sound to it. I remember it from when I was about 4 and it still rocks today.
Yea you're right. Even in 78 the times were beginning to gradually move toward the 80s. Shorter hair different styles of clothes and music etc. But damn this tune DOES have a timeless haunting sound to it.

Bless you.
Natalie :)

Yet another ageless, timeless classic from the 70s. Sounds just as fresh and cool now as it did when it was first released, and probably will do so in another 40 years. 70s was an amazing decade for music.
And the band play their own instruments 🎹
A super catchy tune, I always find myself grooving out when I listen to it.
I honestly kind of agree with you like MOST PEOPLE ARE OLD AND STUPID but the late 70s and early 80s are going to be remembered like the 1920s. Can someone say this out loud? Music from the late 70s and early 80s will be remembered like the 1920s.
Yes it was
No, it doesn't sound just as fresh.
This is one of the greatest songs ever written and I'm tired of pretending otherwise

@@cecillambert8727 - It's actually really good. Fact is, this song right here almost instantly became so larger than life none of their other songs got any airplay. At least a few could have, and probably should have. Several of the band members left the group right after their first album. Yeeaaahhh!
@Kneon Knight wow exactly what i was thinking...
This is one of those songs that could turn up and be a “hit” at any point in time.
This is a timeless classic! So cool!

The strength and weakness of this song is it's just too good. Impossible to follow up. It was always destined to be a one hit wonder. For these few minutes, they were on fire. It sums up a moment in time whilst, at the same time, being timeless. One of my all time favourites.
I dunno - "What Can Daddy Do" is pretty damn epic, too. It just never got a fair shake on-air.
Putting "n" in your band name doesn't help either.
Definitely a strong contender for being the greatest one hit wonder song ever made.

@@patriciawilson7550 I didn’t know that. Nice one.
@@duran5706 I heard it on another commercial too. They all must have just discovered it too 🤣
I'm 62 and just found out about the song about a year ago can't quit listening to it! How did I miss it!!!
Iam 62 as well. Saint Louis Missouri. I knew it from day-one.
I don't know! Welcome to the fan base for this 1 hit wonder from our youth!!
This song came out the same year I graduated from high school. Just played this on cd at our 45th class reunion. Unfortunately, 29 of my classmates have passed away.
I was stationed in the Philippines in 1979. I wasn't able to hear this song. I'm 67 and just heard it for the first time yesterday. Is now my favorite one hit wonder of all time.
78 sorry
I close my eyes and it takes me back to September 1979, a junior in high school driving to my 1st job. Beautiful memories when things seemed so simple.
1978 I THINK
This song is the perfect "bridge" song from the 1970s to the 1980s - has elements of what made both decades' music popular and even has a bit of a 60s sound to it. I remember it from when I was about 4 and it still rocks today.
Well put!
Very true...that bridge also includes BLONDIE, IAN GOMM, SHOES, THE BABYS, et al. Interesting period, aesthetically.
Yea you're right. Even in 78 the times were beginning to gradually move toward the 80s. Shorter hair different styles of clothes and music etc. But damn this tune DOES have a timeless haunting sound to it.
Yea mate,great analogy
A timeless classic. Takes me back 40 years in an instant. The 80s were special.
Yes sir.
PISS on the 80s this was 1978
@@loumonte658 No Sir this was the 70s TRUTH
I stand corrected. Spare us the hostility.
@@bruceblackerby3742 LOL Thts fine lol
This is one of the BBC radio DJs ,Steve Wright's favourite . He passed away today. This one's for you Steve.
Rockfile
I was wondering who Steve Wright was. Keep coming across songs that say Steve Wright remix. No one would tell me who he was. Maybe I should have googled him.
@@melissatyree566 Sorry to say that you missed out, big time. Steve Wright had an amazing uplifting quality which made his time on air pass so quickly. It was a massive loss and shock when he passed so quickly.
Thank goodness for recordings of groups like this. Awesome song.
@@allegheny1633....thanks for your reply. Will try to learn more about him. Have a wonderful day. Ps. I love thus song. Classic.
I can’t remember the first time I heard this, but I remember being blown away. It is still one of my favorites.
@@tracycase4520 - Always made me relax and just cruise. I can't think of a better song ever written just to drive.
wrong side of 30 and agree
This song never gets old. One of the best songs ever. It’s 2024 and I’m still listening!
2024 and 2025 right behind. ❤🎉
Timeless classic, on a drive with the radio on, turn up the volume.
The drummer’s a human metronome, robotic, hypnotic, and demonically astute in rhythm.
dont forget the subtle nuances of his hi hat lifts. really accentuates his beat. !
I know this song from my youth, but listening to it again, I IMMEDIATELY noticed the beat. It's a fricking winner. It's tight, but it still swings.
Good sh!t, guys. Spot on.
A song you can hear many many times and never get tired of it !
Yes love this song
Terry, my neighbors may not agree. But i do. 😎🇺🇸
Yeah! I usually put this on endless repeat for a little background excitement while I'm doin' something even more exciting than drivin' - if ya know what I mean.
One hit wonders, but wow, what a hit !!!
Yep if ya gonna have one hit make a good one
Notable song Rodeo Drive
Better one hit than no hit.
Bryan Nelson I wonder why it wasn’t a bigger hit! This song is IT. Listen to it over and over. What a great one!
Talented before there time..💋👌
Nothing but a group of excellent musicians just jammin. They are in the grove.
If you're gonna be a one-hit wonder, this is the hit you want to have.
For real, that statement is debatable. Lots of damned good one hit wonders out there over the years, but this song is among the best of the best.
They must have done ok. Those sunglasses that the backup singer is wearing are limited edition, hand made Louis Vuitton aviators, worth about 18k in the 70s, today they fetch about $50kusd.
This and Radar Love..🤔
@@douglasgreen437 Golden Earring had more hits than just Radar Love though. It's not an apples to apples comparison.
@@carlosspeicywiener7018 It's far more likely that they're knock-offs, but sure.
It was a post disco era and I was entering the 7th grade when this song came on the radio, what a way to kick off your teenage years. I wouldn't trade for anything.
😊
😊
This was years ahead of its time; if it had been released in the mid-to-late 1980's these guys would have become world-wide superstars.
Totally agree. It's an underrated masterpiece.
1978…
Nah, by then music was a bit past the "AM radio hits of the 70s style". It was destined to be a one hit wonder. Name another song by Sniff n the Tears (without Googling).
@@suchabadkitty1293 wtf do you know? Get lost.
November 2024 and that guitarist is STILL AWESOME!👏
