This is one of the videos people will be watching 20 years from now. Thanks Mike!
Thanks!
One of the things that is not in the book!
Coming up = the Boost Ring assessment!
Mike
we won't have diesel engines in 20 years time...!
@@fionanokelly Wrong. We won't have the AGW scam in 20 years time, nor will we have the EU nonsense. Diesels are here for a long time yet.
After the next meteor hits Earth, the only thing living will be cockroaches and TDi Land Rovers. Eventually the cockroaches will mutate and have something they can drive.

Brilliant video, extremely helpful and pulled me out of a massive hole, much appreciated.
Hey Mike! Thanks for this video! I have been looking for some info about setting Landy pumps, the thing is apart from 5 Tdi Landies I also own a VW T3 Syncro and put some years ago a 1Z engine, firstly with a VW LT pump but never liked that one, and after that, with a Landy pump like that, from a 300Tdi, and I am trying to set the pump which at least for me it's not easy being the first time...
Thanks for the info!
If there is another one trying to do the same, there is more information on forums and the internet, just use search engines and there you go. Also Thanks again Mike, your channel is turning into the most complete "Bible" about Landies and automotive on the Internet, keep up the good work!👍
I assume this shaft seal replacement procedure applies to all VE pumps? 2000 VW Beetle ALH TDI?
Great Help there Mike. I have same problem, but cant get hold of Gauge, so if I follow this Vid and get that Key at roughly 4 o'clock mark , would that get my Pump near enough timed so can get back on engine and run it until I can get Gauge to set it properly. ???
Did it work?
You may have answered this elsewhere, but why 1.6 and not the 1.54 in the manual? Just in the process of doing the timing for the first time and trying to figure things out. Cheers.
A little more advance works quite well
Thank you for this video help me so much 👍🏼
Glad it helped!
Great videos Mike ,really useful,I'm currently restoring a 1988 Land Rover 90 with a 200 tdi engine from a disco,it starts and runs fine but is very smokey,I've already cleaned the injectors which didn't improve things so now I've checked the timing on the FIP and I'm getting around 2.4 instead of 1.6,have you any idea of what could cause this? Cheers..
I am surprised that the engine is not knocking with the pump set at 2.4 - that is quite advanced
Has it got a boost pin fitted?
Is the turbo leaking oil into the intake?
Could be one of many things
@@BritannicaRestorations
Mike, there's no boost pin or oil leaking into the intake ,I'm more concerned about the timing at the moment, maybe I'm checking it wrong? I've uploaded a video here: ua-cam.com/video/TBbkGg3O8GU/v-deo.html
Mike,I know what I'm doing wrong now,cheers...
Have you done a full strip and rebuild video?
This seems the seal I need to replace as it leaks into the timing cover :/
hi there . i removed my ve pump had the front seal replaced only as it was reconditioned about 100,00 km ago,,, the guy said he reset the pump after a few adjustments it running ok it fititng on in a different position than before as the old position can be seen on the pulley , but now very loud now much more than before.
wondering if he has set the pump too high, this 110 has timing gears on it,
thanks
Sounds as if it is too far advanced
hi mike i have tried to set my 300 tdi fuel pump to 1.60 mm on the guage , which i can do but i then cannot get the timing pin back in on the pump , however i can if i put it back to standard setting , what am i doing wrong thanks Antony , Australia
You have to lock the shaft at 1.6, remove the pulley on the pump and refit with the pin in place - do not forget to unlock the pump when done
Great, thanks for sharing.
hello what is the catalog number of the gasket kit for bosch injection pump thank you.

@@BritannicaRestorations Mike a numer katalogowy dziękuję.
Are you sure this pump is supposed to be set to 1.54 or 1.60? This is the pump with EGR and as per the manual is supposed to be set to 1.4. Did I miss anything?
Trying to setup my own right now and I am lost.
On another hand, I removed the throttle positioning sensor from mine together with the EGR and don't know if I should go for 1.54 or 1.4.
@@BritannicaRestorations Thanks for reply. It's a pity I can not attach a screenshot in the comments because my workshop manual says 1.54 for manual pump, 1.4 for the pump with EGR and 0.45 for the one with EDC.

Mike
sorry for asking but just out of interest, how do i see if it is an EGR pump?
