I am 62 years old, my nephew sent me a link for these guys, and they are everything that everyone says below... Listening to rock since i was 10, and this is up with the best
Hell yeah I mean sixty-year-old people definitely tore up in that generation tour they know the fundamental concepts of musical composition but nowadays people don't understand that they just download some template and rap about how they are child of a single welfare mother living on food stamps. I don't care about how you rap about having $20 bills and hoes
I can´t imagine more appropriate way to describe this song and what it does to me than give you this quote "The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls." - Pablo Picasso
Surely you jest? These engineers, you feel, are “Masters”, i.e. par excellence, nonpareil? I’m not trying to be a shit head here, really, but I descended on the comments to vent about this very topic. Engineers par excellence is not the impression I’m left with. How would you account for the last 2 minutes of the song? This is a very solid -...... NAY! This is a FUCKING ICE COLD and at the same time BURNING HOT solo from TWoD’s lead vocalist - I was less familiar w/ his guitar work before seeing this and, despite the atrocious mixing, it is what convinced me that he may be one of the most underrated leads in this era of pop rock. BUT..... the mixing is downright awful! From 5:20 to the end (~ 7:00) the guitar comes thru weak and unreadable, I would expect a strong reprimand and to be removed from any high profile events for a least a year. And for 5:00 to 5:20, well, I would expect to be downright fired on the spot. Gone. And if I were in charge of that outfit, I would fire whoever was responsible for that mess. Once again, on the spot. Sounds a bit harsh, but damn it, We’re talking the lead singer’s fucking epic 2 min solo to close out a spirited rendition of one of their best records.... oh, and did I mention .......lt’s The War on Fucking Drugs! This is a major act, a major moment. You check, double check, test, then check again to BE SURE you’ll get it right..... My 2 cents, perhaps only worth $0.01, maybe y’all got a deal?! Anyway, thank you for reading my comment...
@@johnb1759 I agree that it's a shame that the guitar is so poorly audible during such a delicious solo. But considering that his guitar comes through pretty well for most of the song, I'm tempted to think the pedal he's stepping on at the beginning of that solo messed up the guitar level.
and the bass player is smooth sailing all the way, with or without a pick, the keyboardist is enclosing the entire song with its dreamsynth waves, loving the drummer that gives me goosebumps with his concentrated pleasure vibe in his eyes and arms... everyone is doing an incredible job for us to live this moment over and over again... thanks to KEXP, and this sensational band "War on Drugs"... that shoots quite addictionnal songs haha.
The best version of this great song that I've heard and I've been coming back for years to see this incredible performance. The studio version is great but this is the pinnacle. Thankyou so much to all involved for creating this masterpiece. Timeless classic in my opinion.✌
These guys have been popping up as a suggestion for ages . Finally let them on autoplay and in like the second song i felt like i need to enlighten the neighbourhood and turn the volume up
Not sure on lyrics, sleaford mods might have the edge, but he must be the greatest active guitarist in the world. It’s like Mark Knopfler meets Springsteen. Under the pressure live is absolutely at the very pinnacle of rock and roll

The first time I heard this song was this very performance as it happened, listening to the radio (Kexp) while driving. When I got to my destination, I didn't move. The song finished and the host, Cheryl Walters, was so choked up she could barely talk.
Just got turned on to this song via a friend, and now discovered this live version. Wow. It doesn’t get better than this, and my heart and soul knows it. Excellent musicianship, excellent recording. Thankyou!
I love this live version so much, the guitar solo is just fucking incredible and the way it builds up to it is amazing. I must have watched this video about 500 times lol
Run away, I'm a traveling man Been walking every day I watch you as you hesitate Walking through the rain I bet against the company, again They try to redefine Everything that I know and love Gotta know you're mine Yeah Feel the way that the wild wind blows through the room Like a nail down through the heart That just don't beat the same anymore That might as well be gone I'm in my finest hour Can I be more than just a fool? It always gets so hard to see Right before the moon Far away Ma there's a black sun rising overhead As it moves through the midnight rain How can I surround myself in time and time again? How can I be free? Just want to lay in the moonlight And see the light shining See you in the outline It never gets too dark to find Anybody at any time I'm at the darkened hillside And there's a haze right between the trees And I can barely see you You're like an ocean in between the waves
A lot of talk about the guitar solo. And rightly so. It's like taking a trip through the life you've lived so far, all the good, all the bad, all the happiness and all the sadness coming together all at once. Can't ignore the sharp highs and lows of the bass adding to the sound.
The best band in over 20 years.! Granducial, is on another level. But this version is off the charts.... You never want it to end. Also, bravo to whomever did the mix..!! 🔥🔥🔥🤘
This is one of my favorite songs ever and I've watched this video who knows how many times, and I just now realized that, sometime between 5:17 and 5:37, the drummer yeeted his headphones into the shadow realm.
This song is so amazing, the only one I can repeat for so long and not get tired of. Like someone else also said, this song just touches my soul in a special and wonderful way
Holllaa, gerade erst entdeckt, dabei folge ich The War On Drugs seit einiger Zeit. 👻
There’s a lot of indie hipster shit out there and honestly I listen to a lot of it but War on Drugs is something different ... transcends “indie hipster shit” by far and taps into something ineffable.
I always feel sad when it ends because I want another 15 minutes of this awesome track. It's like the live recording of 'What goes on ' by the Velvet Underground - you never want it to end. Awesome track.
What an incredible band! Music and nature are my drugs, no need for war against that! The War On Drugs is perfect backdrop to nature and amazing companion on travels!
For decades, MTV, VH1 and MuchMusic never caught on to what KEXP, Tiny Desk & The Basement have been doing from jump. It’s a shame as this format is so much better.

Greatest and most moving guitar solo ever. I feel like I'm rushing on MDMA every time that solo kicks in. Purely magical and genius
Guitar solos are barely ever cool and this one is SO COOL.
I want to play guitar again and learn this solo
Yes my man ! Next time I'm rolling this is definitely going on

Gotta love the drummer layin' down that steady beat. Makes everything feel alright.
someone read the pitchfork review?
the bassist keepin that steady rhythm too

Good job.also the others go smoothly with it.one off the greatest songs for me.

Spending my Saturday afternoon dancing with my toddler to this in the living room. Time well spent. 😊
Hard to imagine how much fun that would be. Goodonyou.

cheers for that
Hit the nail on the head with that one!
What a quote
thanks for this quote, bro
Far out,I'm 70,was at the isle of wight, music is eternal
This sounds better than the version on the album. The sound engineers at KEXP are fucking masters! (And the band too)
Right?
After several years of listening to this, I still can't get over how good this version is.

exactly! I think the same way, is pure talent.
The part beginning at 5:41 gets me emotional everytime, such a wonderfull guitar part and solo!

Sounds a bit like the solo at the end of bodysnatchers
On a transam, hair on the wind, ripping down a highway.

Just one of those tracks you don't want to end !
Whoever the KEXP sound engineer(s) are I hope they are well paid.
That solo is still hits 6 years later, I was mind blown when I saw this band live, pure talent at best
What makes it better than other solos? I usually think they are corny, but not this one.
The only song where I've never wanted it to end, so I keep rewinding to the guitar solo over and over.
Same here one of the most epic guitar solos, major goosebumps
absoluteley agree on the guitar, is is epic
I wish this song was endless
Brooks Greene this guy knows. I always go the long way home when this one is playing.
And several years on this is still stunning and best music EVER.

it is amazing that KEXP can get even better versions than the studio songs, i would pay to go to a KEXP session.

I don't know what it is, the 5 senses can't account for it, but when that band rips into that guitar solo something seriously happens to me.
