I envy you if you are listening for the first time..that moment you know you've discovered a piece of music that will be close to you for the rest of your life.
I can tell where I was (local bar) the day (one sunny Sunday afternoon), what I was drinking (Camden hells) and who I was with (my beautiful wife). It felt like everyone fell silent for those minutes. ♥️
@@geordiewook Does life get any better than that?!
This is my first time and you nailed it
For me that moment comes like 20th listen
Truly
I took my mom to a WOD show. They closed the festival, and punctuated the weekend with total grace and feel. I listened to the band through my own ears, also tried to conceptualize what my mother was feeling. This was an epic experience, to put it mildly. Thanks War on Drugs: an absolutely moving performance from empathetic artist. Thanks.
I remember hearing this song for the first time. It was at a party where I knew almost nobody. Most people were stoned AF but I was fully sober. When this song came on we were sitting outside and heard this song on the background, we just sat there listening and I think that moment will stay with me for a long while.
that's meta considering the band's name.
I had a similar moment like this, but with a different song
I can’t think of any song ever written over 10min that keeps me gripped like this beautiful song. I think it’s my fave song by them and there’s a lot to choose from.
Desolation Row - Bob Dylan
try listening to pink floyd-animals. dogs, pigs, sheep
Try Pink Floyd’s shine on you crazy diamond 👌
This and AlugalugCat are my two all-time favorite songs!
Though The Silence by Manchester Orchestra and The Sound of Silence by Disturbed are a close 3rd and 4th.
Arriving somewhere, but not here- Porcupine Tree
This song got me through some real tough times. Years back i suffered a psychotic break and got diagnosed with bipolar 1. I felt like I didn't understand myself or the world around me anymore. This song helped me remember again while recovering.
Love you, never forget it.
My heart and soul is with you in spirit. I've gone through deep bouts of depression all of my life, mainly from existential angst, pondering real deep stuff, I get severe anxiety from it too. All is not lost though, because it cultivated such a deep capacity to love, understand, and be empathetic. It is who I am. It is the journey I am on. I am so deeply empathetic towards you and what you've gone through, please don't ever feel you are alone. I hope you're doing ok. Godspeed.
that moment at 2:57 when the riff starts, takes you to another dimension, fighting with your own feelings, giving, taking what you never had......
This is proof that great music still exists...it's just harder to find.😌
This song and Strangest Thing off of this album are such masterpieces. I can listen to them over and over and over again. They never get old.
Totally agree. So many masterpieces to pick from with this band but those are probably my top two favorites that you just named.
Adam Granduciel is a true genius when it comes to layering all the instruments in a song.He tinkers with lyric and melody until he thinks it is perfect and by God he gets it right just about every time! This is the song and performance that hooked me 3 years ago..found them by accident because UA-cam plugged in similar artists
TRUTHAT
trueee
When I grow up I want to own a carpet store called the war on rugs!
This song is like coming home from a long trip, equal parts relief, excitement and comfort. Hearing the voice of a loved one for the first time in years.
❤
Easily one of their best songs written. The build up and the middle break. When I first heard the song never would've thought it was 13min. Flows so well
It's amazing! I listened to this song for a dozen times before i finally realised that it is so long.
Eric Mundt me too..same feeling
Couldnt't have described it better. It truly is a masterpiece
Martin Gutierrez this entire album is an unrealized masterpiece
That’s because this version is ten minutes!!
One of the more beautiful pieces of music I have listened to in my life...
i've never done heroin. but i imagine it takes you to someplace like this song.
Less beautiful than you, if you allow me... even if I find this song fantastic! ;)
I was addicted to heroin for 7 years ending in 2006. The War On Drugs are my favourite band in the world at the minute. If you've never taken heroin its hard to describe the feeling but what you said comes pretty close. If i fell in love with heroin you can probably understand why i love this band so much.
Leah Krokowski they are so awesome what a beautiful way of music I have never heard of them but so awesome my favorite music
Yes d'accord
This is my favorite song of all time. I've heard it hundreds of times, and it gives me chills every time....
Me too ...
Good choice
I am 63 the 70s music was it for me.But wow mind blown.I found them on independant music channel. So much to explore.I ordered a cd.So much going on in there music so full so dreamy
I completely agree, this song is something else. It is amazing and gets me everytime
This song kills me and brings me back to life
I walked up the aisle to this amazing song last year in Siena, Italy. Not from the start obviously as it would have had to be a pretty long aisle but from ‘ come and take my hand babe’ it was an amazing day 😍
What an amazing story and an excellent idea! Would have loved to see this; I absolutely adore this song.
Beautiful 😍😘congratulations 👏❤💖
My dream to do this too!
I am not usually a fan of live recordings, but this band is on a whole different level. I cant believe it took me till 2020 to discover these guys. Incredibly talented.
So intriguing that everytime you come back to this song you know exactly you're in for an emotional ride but you never quite know where it'll take you...
You comment is also good, for only one reason, it is true.
Oh my ,..
It feels like the first time everytime, because it is so good...
Hello song, it’s me again.
Love it , emotions r flying out and the lyrics blow me away....xxxx
When they released Lost In the Dream, I thought to myself, "There's no way they're ever going to top this. It's just too good." Here we are, three and a half years later and The War on Drugs hits us with another spectacular album. As of right now, this band can do no wrong. I consider myself lucky being a fan of them.
me too
me too, looking forward to see them in Mexico next month :D
same here...this band just keeps getting better and better...would love to see them Live!
This was the best concert of my life
@@Anoalekontrieger I'd want to drop acid so bad.
I've discovered this song, and band obviusly, when i was taking care of My dad during the nights of the clínic. Him suffering a terminal decease. And i can Say that this song gave me peace in the hardest Moments.
Best song on the album and probably their best composed song thus far imo.
Every song I listen to by them on this album is my favourite song, and so is In Reverse and so is Eyes To The Wind!!!
THE BEST SONG
Rain is falling outside. War on Drugs in playing in my ears. My life is in the balance and my loves and friends and plans are all over the place. This song remains on the horizon like a constant.
People complain a lot about that there is no good music these days. Well War on drugs proves the opposit! Love Supreme!
I get so mad when people say that. I tell them they just aren't looking hard enough. There are still some amazing artists out there, you just have to dig a little.
pero lo que es triste es que hay muy pocos... y por eso "thanks to war on drugs... BRAVE"
One of the few examples
There has always been few actually innovative and creative musicians at a given moment. What's really happening nowadays that most people despise is the supremacy of generally poor music genres and a constant flow of artistically meaningless lyrics. We're definitely not on fault in _good_ music tho
Hell I would come to say that we have more quality than ever, with the variety we dispose of right now. So many new artists are emerging, due to the accessibility of the music industry growing more and more.
This is exactly why I DONT listen to main stream music. They have killed music! I explore and search and come across beautiful gems like these independent artists so unique and talented. Their sound resonates with me so much. ❤

can i have your playlist pleaseeee
every artist is unique, stop your elitism. Just enjoy the music.
@@mikenolan9440 I think they're entitled to their opinion.
Una explosión de nostalgia, amor profundidad y algo que no sé que es... Esta hermosa canción lo tiene todo. Me hace viajar y olvidarme de todo y de todos. Me hace sentir que todo estará bien.
Totalmente de acuerdo
My local community station tircoed radio played this Friday night while I was doing a workout. The presenter said, just let your mind drift for 11 minutes... never heard it before and I love it. 😊
I discovered this band/song during diy duties in covid19 lock down. What an absolute blessing this has been. Total bliss. Loved it from the moment I heard it 😍😍😍 will carry on listening to this band for the rest of my days 👂💖👂💖
I can't really put my finger on it as to why this song is sooo damn good. Perhaps it has all the right ingredients. Usually when I listen to a long song, 10+ minutes, I'll know, I'm aware while listening right, but this song, it has you so involved that you loose yourself. If someone would of told me it's 11 mins long, I wouldn't believe them.
Really good musicians playing really well for a long time
Røvmads Exactly. Cheers!
Every time I've listened to this song I think of the 11 minutes beforehand and then disappear into it's melodic reverie and its false endings and then wish for it to be even longer! Gorgeous song...
the song doesnt seem that long to me. mainly because when i hear it i close my eyes and seem to lose track of time and my surroundings. dreamy
What ingredients?
I used to listen to the radio as a kid in bed. Finger on the volume knob. The 70s 80s .. Am/Fm radio.
Dreamscapes on the edge of sleeping .. canyons and peaks .. heard Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin. One night the DJ played the entire Tangerine Dream "Ricochet" album.
I was ten at the time. I hadn't even kissed a girl. I am there now .. reaching for the volume knob.
I love this. Thanks for sharing ♡
Wonderful story telling. Read this comment out loud to my husband. We both really appreciated it. Very refreshing. Thank you.
Make UA-cam great again! With comments like these!
Back again - favorite comment on yt
Thanks to everyone.
I challenge the viewer to find another song on you tube that has inspired so many poetic, poignant, and powerful responses. So inspirational and heartwarming to read how many love and thrive on this gem
It was back in Little Bend that I saw you
Light was changing on the water
Where birds above had flown
There was pain in your eyes
So you vanished in the night
Missouri River in the distance
So I lied upon the lawn
I remember walking against the darkness of the beach
Love is like a ghost in the distance, out of reach
Travel through the night 'cause there is no fear
Alone but right behind, until I watched you disappear
I'm moving through the dark
Of a long black night
Just moving with the moon
And the light it shines
And I'm thinking of a place
And it feels so very real
Just moving through the dark
Once I had a dream
I was falling from the sky
Coming down like running water
Passing by myself in light
In the morning, I would wake
To the sound of someone's voice
Like little whispers through the silence
I'm moving through the dark
Of a long black night
I'm looking at the moon
And the light it shines
But I'm thinking of a place
And it feels so very real
Oh, sufferer of love
Come and take my hand, babe
There's a turn in the road that we've been taking
Let it set you free
'Cause there's a rhythm in the way that we've been moving
Yeah, there's a darkness over there, but we ain't going
See it through my eyes
Walk me to the water
Hold my hand as something turns to me
Love me every night
Drown me in the water
Hold my hand, is something turning me?
See it through my eyes
Love me like no other
And hold my hand as something turns to me
And turns me into you
Lead me through tonight
Pull me from the water
Hold my hand as something turns to me
Turns me into you
Just see it through my eyes
Love me like no other
Hold my hand as something turns to me
Turns me into you
Turning me into you
Best band in the world. Bands like this don’t come around often....and oh how there beauty graces with age....thank you so much for making art and making this world such a beautiful place.
This song brings me peace
Guitar solo is bliss
I heard this song for the first time last week . I can't stop playing it ! I listen to it over and over again ! It touches my soul and makes me happy and sad at the same time . Great song !
Today I went to the funeral of a 20 year old boy. He died a week ago while being hid by a car. My daughter and that 20 year old boy were very close. During the funeral, the boy's favorit music was played. This song was one of them. I was very much touched by it. Hundreds of people were at the funeral and because of the fact that there were so many people, the greeting of the coffin took a long time. I heard that song 3 time. I had never heard the song before and I took my phone and used Shazam app in order to know the title of the song. It will always remember me of that boy who still had a whole life to go. He had such a nice character and we all will mis him a lot😢
Love 2 you ! I'm fishing with Grandpa. Thinking of a place.
Today is the first time I have heard this. At first I thought they sounded like Tom Petty, then glimpses of Dylan. Now it just sounds like them. I will be listening to this often.
Rarely a day goes by that I dont listen to something from these guys
This song is simply flawless.
i love smokin up to these dudes....
I grew up in the 80s and for some bizarre reason their music brings me back to when times were so much more simple and we hung out with friends by lakes and in parks during the long summer days just talking and hanging out. Thanks TWOD for these feelings. Forever grateful.
The drugs(weed) made this even better. No war necessary.
Am i crying? Sure. Crying for this beautiful music-place. The lyrics, the music OMG
War on Drugs the best rock band now
M a s t e r p i e c e !!!!!!!!!
Antony Kein little whispers gets me all the time!
This arrangement for the song is the best version I've heard. Special band that never ceases to amaze.
Adam is a true master of his art. Music made for the right reasons.... And it's not to make a dollar like the rest of the awful music ACTS faming it everywhere these days.
You have a hole in your heart if these guys don't touch your emotions, dang pretty music.
Lost in a dream is one of my favorite albums of all time. When a deeper understanding came out I wondered if it could top it. I listened few a few times and it didn't instantly grab me, but by the third listen I was hooked, by the tenth listen, I was pretty sure this is an absolute masterpiece.
The hallmark of a good musician is their ability to unearth what you've chosen to bury.
Waking up at 03h45, getting ready for a 10-hour roadtrip. This song comes on.
...
Es hermosa
Very cool that you can translate so good...
mios dios, parece que me voy a morir

The atmosphere you create with this song is something very raw and rare🫡
"Love is like a ghost in the distance out of reach.." I feel this line in my soul.💕
This is one of those songs you'll always remember where and when you heard it first. Pure melancholy to me
Saludos 🤘
music from heaven, this song should hv been longer
IMO, this is their best performance of this song!
As we acknowledge that this is just life passing by, it's beautiful to just catch a glimpse of how beautiful it is every now and then 💜
July 2020 first time hearing this song on the radio and I'm instantly mesmerized🥳. Came here to check on the band and everything. I'm a fan now❤️
Wow best live version of this song ever. Greetings from The Netherlands
I bought the song when it was first released as a single and listened to it on repeat every time I went to work on the TV series Castle Rock. An hour's drive of pure bliss. Could not get enough of it! Still can't!
The kinda music where the mile markers fade away
The most beautiful song I’ve ever heard ❤️
One of the greatest songs ever! Thank you. This song saved my life

Me too. A strange longing.
Uhh! Hold on there. Ever?
@@DbeeM I mean that's an opinion . Maybe favourite would've been a better word
I believe it.
I can't stop listening to this song when I need to feel calm. I love it so much. It gives me hope and feels so great...
I could listen to this everyday for the rest of my life and never get tired of it
A beautiful blend of Springsteen and Dylan. Cinematic and emotive.
I feel Inxs and Mike and the mechanics at times.
Shimmery vibrations, poetry, nostalgia and sheer beauty - pretty cool
This song and this album are my favorites of 2017. I'm so impressed with the live production and that it holds up so well to the studio version. There's something about this song that touches me deep in my soul. I haven't connected like this with a song in years.
I'm loving this song first time I have heard it and makes me feel happy.
They rip ripple the heart. It's such a gift to give and receive. I cry when I hear them. I know little but it breaks me with gratitude.
Love, love this band...took my youngest daughter to their show in Nashville, great band, great memories!
Song that remains my father live in heart. Cried too many times. In my opinion this guys are so greatest band 🙌 ❤️ thank you guys. This song gives me super power.
My Mom passed away a few weeks ago, right around the time I found this song, and the harmonica sound near the end of this song gives me a nostalgic feeling about her that moves me to tears.
I wish you the pain would dissolve and that only the good memories with her can reinforce🙏
That is sweet.
RIP Ray's mom
I'm back. Each time I watch/listen to this I'm moved by the musicianship of these guys. Soothes my soul.
I'm so glad and thankfull having found this lovely music , it's simply magic!!!
Anything played in Jimi Hendrix's studio seems to have just a little bit more magic it seems.
This song takes me to a place that I cannot explain like a river of magic and emotions carrying me in its flow, down the stream of memories that are long missed but never forgotten.
this music in times of corona, it really helps
The shifts in rhythm guitar are subtle and beautiful.
Yeah that is definitely something he learned from Kurt Vile - - to phrase things carefully and with intention - it is the mark of a craftsman :)
Geo L yes!
I discovered this song yesterday! I cannot stop listening! one of the best songs I've ever heard!
I would pay for feeling back what I felt first time I discovered this song...
Heavenly...
Recorded at Jimmy Hendrix Electric Lady Studios... Sounds great!
I want to see them live so badly. I wish I could pick the songs too. But I’m just A dreamer.
His voice is naturally beautiful
I lost a friend to drugs last year....we weren't romantic...just friends....but when I listen to this song...I think of her....she must be in a place where some deep sadness resides inside me....some deep and mournful place...where there is always a vague pain....I miss you Angel....weird how that works....eh?
Thank you, this song has helped and soothed me so much. My love had voice box removal surgery and I have listened to your album for the last 4 weeks en route home from the hospital at night. Beautiful x
Sara MacKenzie so touching
Giving my 8 month old girl brekkie and introducing her to this masterpiece. Please God we will be attending their gigs together in future like I have in past. Come back to Ireland soon lads! 🇮🇪
I am a late comer with this band. This was the song that put the hooks in. I am almost 50 years old and there is something nostalgic about this song and sound that takes me back to great times.
One of those songs you can just get lost too.... that voice and that sound.... gets me every time 💖
Class,Class, and More Class. What an absolute wonderful, Beautiful live version. Thanks For This Glorious Upload. Regards Frank
This is such a great song. I just love turning down the light, turning up the headphones and e-drumming along to it. Losing sense of time and place completely :)
SAME
This song puts me in the drivers seat on a road trip in California- at night
This band is so underrated, they deserve more recognition.
Their songs are just amazing, pure talent!
I only discovered this band a year ago. There last album is a master class in song writing and production. When listening to it through headphones there is so much going on its amazing it all comes together. Genius music making.
i heard this playing in the ending credits of sharp objects. i was mesmerized. now i can't stop listening to the the entire album, deeper understanding! beautiful!!!
Superb track. The section that kicks in at 6:44 is especially sublime......Come and take my hand baby.....
Found this group on a deep Mushroom trip. A Deeper Understanding is now one of my favorite albums.
What an underrated band
hitting like button before watching is regular when the title is : The war On Drugs
i love your music folks!
thebestever475 you don't tell someone to buy music when they are complimenting. Way to be a douche and kill the vibe.
THIS is the music i feel the most related to. Sensual and delicate but without hesitation. Like you know everything's gonna happen the way it has to.
I am shocked at the beauty even possible by this song.
so beautiful, all their music puts u in a state of bliss
