"Thanks folks, thats my time, gotta set myself free." Hurts me every time.
Same 😢
Me Too.😢
It doesn't hurt me and Robin was my hero and mentor. Nice Peter and Epic Lloyd treated Robin With kids gloves. If you look at all the other people they have gone after, you can really see that Peter and Llyod really did care for Robin. They had to reference Robin's suicide, but they did it in such a way that if you know the facts of what happened to Robin and why he did what he did, he really did set himself free. It is sad that we lost Robin. He was a mentor for a LOT of people and showed us how to be an adult. I will always miss him. But remember that he did leave a legacy in his TV and movies for us. And more importantly, he left a legacy with his kids.
@@victorhayes5980 that is a excellent point
And she didn't even get the reference
Wilder than Gene is referring to Gene Wilder. Pryor and Wilder did several films together. I'm pretty sure the boxing references are just standard battle flexes.
Pryor's "Even the shit that I spit off the top. Flames" Is referring to when he got high and accidentally lit himself on fire.
Hannibal Burress is a comedian. He was the first to speak out about the things Cosby was doing.
Rufus is the character Carlin played in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.
In addition to being Gene Wilder, the movie with gene wilder, and Richard Pryor was the silver streak
Yeah, Stir Crazy is hilarious!
"Brain Droppings" is the name of George's Book
Haircut debacle (i think) is talking about the transition in the 1960's when Carlin started his change from a 'regular' comedian to what we know now.
"Hey Hey Hey", just before Cos joined in... From fat albert "Hey hey hey"
Chocolate Cake & Dentist are two of Cos routines (which he has a lip/talk issue during the dentist one)
You were right the first time about the pudding, that was Cosby, don not second guess yourself on a correct answer :>
Good morning movie bombs: Good morning Vietnam, also reminding everyone that all the others bombed fairly often in the movies (would disagree Prior did well with Gene Wilder), and later he names many of the good movies which strengthens his initial line
Comic Relief: Comedy special to get money to fight poverty
Mork/Nanu Nanu: His break in role into television was Mork and Mindy, where his 'greating' is Nanu Nanu (he first appeared as Mork in Happy Days season 5ish)
Saw you got the 'bumps' reference but did not comment on it
"Set myself free" is a double for how he left life
Joan had the strongest lines (agree) and originally was the end, they added Williams afterwords (and won emotionally).
@@juliangarnier526 They did several movies together, silver streak was one of them.
@@juliangarnier526 Silver Streak, Stir Crazy and See No Evil are the best known, they did a forth that isn’t as well known in 1991 called Another You
George Carlin played Rufus in the "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" movie, and it's sequel, "Bill and Ted'd Bogus Journey"... The first one was especially iconic when it came out... Also, Richard Prior was well known for setting himself on fire, IRL, and NOT for show...
I first knew him as "Mr Conductor".
The battle of the legendary Comedians. 4 died and one has a dead career.
Oh and the battle was supposed to end with Joan Rivers, but ERB's Patreons wanted them to include Robin Williams.
So with Robin closing the set, that would make them... a Dead Comedians' Society?
DON DEMARCO…. BANG BANG
I think Hannibal Buress was the first to speak publicly about Cosby being a dirt bag.
Also Carlin is Rufus in Bill & Ted movies.
So far I haven't seen a reactor get the _Brain Droppings_ bar. George Carlin's first book is called _Brain Droppings._
Robin was one of the best actors and comedians of all time. He started out doing stand up comedy. You should react to some of his stand up too. The man was hilarious.
I will keep it in mind, thanks! ✍️
ACTUALLY!!!! He was a graduated Juliard actor! But because he was so funny, he started doing comedy and made a name for himself in it. Then his acting prowess shined in EVEREY movie.
In case you don't know yet, Williams' opening line where he yells: "Gooood moooorning" is a reference to his movie "Good Morning, Vietnam" where he would introduce his character's radio show with this same "Goood mooorning".
¨Wilder than Gene...¨ refers to Gene Wilder, comedy actor, made several movies with Richard Pryor.
¨...silver streak¨ refers to the 1976 film Silver Streak, where Pryor costars with, you guessed it, Gene Wilder.
If you want to know more about Richard Pryor's life, he made a semi-autobiographical film called Jo Jo Dancer: Your Life is Calling (1986). Though embellished, it was inspired by many of Richard's experiences.
Wilder than Gene Wilder, Rufus is Carlin's characters in Bill and Ted
His comedic partner. Movies were awesome
Yes, that’s true about his mom and grandmother💯
When Robin Says he gotta set himself free, that’s a double reference to his character in Aladdin and the fact that he killed himself 😬
the line "non stopping brain droppings" is a reference to a book George wrote called "Brain Droppings" which was just full of his witty quips and ballsy bits. One of my favorite books of all time, as someone who loves literature *and* comedy, that is. Also, "I'm wilder than Gene when I'm killing the beat" is a reference to the comedy legend that is Gene Wilder. His most well known role was Willy Wonka in 1971's "Charlie and The Chocolate Factory," the OG movie, not the Johnny Depp iteration. Then the "let me move on to Rufus" line from Joan Rivers is in reference to the character George played in "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" whose name was indeed Rufus. When Robin said "80 years old but that nose looks brand Nanu Nanu" is in reference to the show Mork and Mindy, where Williams played one of the titular characters, Mork. "Nanu Nanu" was a greeting that his people (the alien race) used.
Richard Pryor help write Blazing Saddles and was supposed to play Bart but the studio thought that was the wrong thing so they got the guy who stars as Bart in the movie
ERB is great all are hood and fun to watch this is one of my favorites RIP to the late greats
Rufus was George's Character in Bill & Ted movies.
In fact George and Richard had deep love and respect for each-other.
@Britt, Gene is referring to Gene Wilder. His comedy film partner. Not for UA-cam reacts but for personal pleasure you've gotta go watch Stir Crazy, Silver Streak, See No Evil, Hear No Evil & my personal favourite Another You. They were a brilliant comedy pairing.
If you ever have time to rewatch any of these multiple-guest ERBs take careful note of the last line (or two) before each new entrance. Usually the entrance is in response to, or hinted by, this previous line.
In this case, Richard Pryor claimed to be the most iconic African-American stand-up comic, which is refuted by the line "You forgot the Cos".
There is always some sort of link to draw in the next character.
You definitely missed the Robin Williams references, "Mork is Work backwards" & "Nanu Nanu" which are direct references to one of his earliest Tv roles as Mork from the hit show "Mork and Mindy" that aired during the early 1980's. It was like a modern (for that time period) version of the show "My Favorite Martian" that aired during the late 60's to mid 70's. Also one of my favorites growing up.
"O Carlin my Carlin".............nice reference to Dead Poets Society's "O Captain my Captain"
Gene wilder and prayer did 3 film together. See no evil hear no evil. Silver Streak and I can't mind the 3rd
No matter what you think of Cosby, his comedy special Bill Cosby: Himself is comedy gold.
No matter what you think of Cosby, his comedy is garbage. He was just famous because he was the only comic clean enough to be on TV. And he turned out to be the worst of them all.
He was a comic genius although he wasn't very moral.
George Carlin was in Bill and Teds excellent adventures (where Keanu reeves became popular) and his characters name was Rufus.
I dont know if you planning doing more erbs but, romeo and juliet vs bonnie and clyde, gordon ramsey vs Julia child, are really good battles if you want to check them out.
Oh Gordon vs Julia was great
Cosby's 'What's wrong with my lip' is a bit from his routine talking about a dental visit when he was a kid. IIRC he has one other similar 'drugged' story as part of his repertoire. So it wasn't in itself directly a reference to THAT but...in retrospect that he has two stories about that sort of thing he liked to tell....well, "If I had a nickel for every time, etc." 2 isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice considering...THAT.
Rufus was a character that George Carlin played as in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.
When I was a kid me and my sister would sneak into my parents room to listen to their Richard Pryor's wanted. Wasn't old enough to get most the jokes but we still laighed.
I can't feel my lip was a Bill Cosby bit in his stand up days.
"Wilder than Gene" is referring to Gene Wilder, who co-starred with Pryor in a bunch of movies in the 80s, starting with Silver Streak.
"Wilder than Gene" is a reference to the late American actor Gene Wilder who was kind of out there, which is probably why he was used in the comparison.
If this was real, then my vote would be Robin Williams. That man's brain worked so fast, and his ability to improvise on the fly is off the charts. "Robin Williams at the Met" was over 2 hours of stand up comedy by less than 45 minutes of it was scripted - the rest was improvised
Disney apparently used the same technique for the genie, letting Robin Williams do one recording of the line as it was scripted (just for safety) and then let him improvise all the other takes.
Richard Pryor did some movies with Gene Wilder, that's where the "Wilder than Gene" bit comes from. Cosby did have an endorsement deal with Jello Pudding, Hannibal Burres I think was the prosecutor that put Cosby in prison. Joan called him Rufus because that was the name of the character he played in Bill and Ted.
When Richard has flames 🔥 on his head that means on one of his stand-ups his hair caught on fire just like Michael Jackson had the same thing happen when his hair caught flames during a commercial for Pepsi during a concert
The late great 'Joan Rivers'.
The Richard Pryor Boxing reference I think refers to the Richard Pryor vs Muhammad Ali benefit event - LA, 1978.
Wilder than Gene - Gene Wilder reference. They may be referencing the movie Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory Starring Gene Wilder, classified as a musical, where Gene Wilder sang a lot, and was regarded as not a good singer? (He is most notably a comedian & actor, but not so much a singer)
Richard Pryor & George Carlin were comedians of the same era. Yes, Richard Pryor was one of the 1st successful black stand up comedians in a mostly white male-dominated industry.
Bill Cosby - had an endorsement with JELLO, specifically for their Jello pudding, then pudding pops.
The reference to Bill Cosby & Drugs is - "In his testimony, Cosby admitted to casual sex involving recreational use of the sedative-hypnotic methaqualone (Quaaludes) with a series of young women, and he acknowledged that his dispensing the prescription drug was illegal"
Hannibal Burress - Black comedic actor. They are most likely referencing that he prematurely left "The Eric Andre Show" (In an interview with Vanity Fair, Eric actually revealed that Hannibal hadn't wanted to be part of the new season at all - in fact, he had to convince his friend to say goodbye to the viewers on camera!) - 2020
"Rufus" reference is the character George Carlin played (a mentor) in the Bill & Ted movie series.
I think the reason these 4 comedians are battling is because of this - "In a celebration of standup comedy, Netflix launched the Netflix Is A Joke: The Festival... The Hall was made to induct the first four greats of standup: George Carlin, Joan Rivers, Robin Williams, and Richard Pryor."
hellgatelance.com/5678/arts-entertainment/the-hall-is-a-touching-tribute-to-stand-up-comedy/
Carlin and Pryor were close friends, George thought very highly of Pryorr
The 1962 thing is because George Carlin went to either prison or jail, that year, and ever since, his comedy style was darker, whereas before that he was really family-friendly. And the movie Jumanji was one of my least favorite Robin Williams movies, but not because it was bad. It’s because I saw it when I was 5-6 and it caused me to develop crippling arachnophobia.
With the comment about wilder than gene, he's talking about Gene wilder, who is the true willy wonka and Rufus is a character that George Carlin played in the Bill and Ted movies
If you think this is wild with all the people jumping in, there's at least a couple others that have this many players.
Also, I recommend the 2 with Key and Peele in this: Ghandi vs. MLK Jr. & Muhammad Ali vs. Michael Jordan.
I could recommend others, but I won't clog the comments too much. Keep up the lovely work!
Jean Wilder..."Wilder than Jean". Richard Pryor did a string of movies with Jean Wilder in the 70's
Mark Zuckerberg vs Elon Musk
I hate when they make more and more people jump in, because those who starts never gets to respond to them, giving them a huge handicap.
I'm a grown ass man and I can say I shed a tear fo show when Robin Williams died u hit it on the head he was such a big part of my life and I grew up in the late 70s/80s lol I hit like on all ya videos I be watching yo cousin channel too!! 💯🔥🍀🤘😎
You have to react to So hyang “Raise me up”
Rufus is in reference to George Carlins role in the Bill and Ted movie series
"Good morning, movie bombs" references a movie Robin Williams was in (Good Morning, Vietnam), "O Carlin my Carlin" references ANOTHER movie Robin Williams was in (Dead Poets Society), and both "Mork aged backwards" and "brand new nanu" are references to the sitcom he was in (Mork & Mindy). These are just the ones you didn't mention.
Aye let's gooo
George Carlin was in the movies " Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventures" and " Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey" where he played a man from the future named " Rufus". That's where Rufus comes from.
"brain droppings" was one George's books.
I didn't know what a "bump" was until a certain former congressman mentioned it a few years ago.
Gene wilder btw
Also they were a comedy duo in multiple movies, including Silver Streak which he notes in the same verse.
GOATS
Richard Pryor if you haven't seen harlem nights man it's a must
damn. he said "monchichi". does anyone else remember that cartoon? it was from the mid 80's. the last line from their theme song was "monchichi means happiness."
Love your reactions!!!! Love to see your reaction to Chase Rice song Bench Seat. Very emotional song!
That Cosby impersonation was AWESOME XD
Wilder then Gene.. Refers to his frequent movie partner, Gene Wilder...
The speech at the end of Jack still rips my heart out, such a good movie!
Gene Wilder (Wilder than Gene) - was a comedian and friend of Richards.. they did some movies together.. you may know Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka from the original movie... he was also Young Frankenstien (the Mel Brooks movie like spaceballs and blazing saddles).. Gene also did movies with Richard (hear no evil, see no evil) as well as others.
Rivers absolutely destroyed them! Thanks for hitting this one and for your next ERB, might I suggest Freddie Mercury vs Frank Sinatra
glad you liked it! i will keep it in mind, thanks!
Cosby did jello pudding commercials in the 1970s miss those days.
Carlin has a book called Brain Droppings. If you never buy another book, this is the one to get. I laughed OUT LOUD so many times reading that book. I bought it at an airport and embarrassed myself laughing on the plane.
If you are around 30-40 years old Robin Williams was a big part of your childhood.
First time watching you. And I don't think I could have picked a better one. One of my long time favorites. Will be watching out for more content for sure.
Actor Gene Wider was his white collegue comedian
Rufus is the name of a Character George Carlin played in an old movie with Keanu Reeves about time travel
Cos had a sponsorship deal with Jell-o which also makes pudding
As a 35 year old man, fuck the video, I don't know which individual I love more, both were inspirational in my youth and young adulthood.
He's reference Gene Wilder, who starred with Richard Pryor in several movies (including the Silver Streak). The boxing is likely just for the rap battle motif. The flame is because Pryor literally set himself on fire, and it's one of his more famous bits. No, Pryor always took his own drugs. Cosby was the only one who drugged others. Yup, Joan Rivers! Both had heart attacks, yes! Rufus was Carlin's character in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.
Wilder then GENE.....GENE WILDER RICHARD PRYOR did a movie with him Silver Streak was the movie
5:04 oh Yes they went THERE.
They have done that a few times, letting more people appear in the battle. The first time it was absolutely shocking and awesome!!! Although right now I can't remember which one it was. I believe something with villains?
The "flames" reference was about Richard Pryor setting himself on fire while freebasing 😂 His stand up afterward is HILARIOUS! :D
Hannibal Burress was the stand up comedian the outted Cosby as a rap ist on stage, and someone got a cell phobe video on it. That video immediately went viral and led to the accusation and investigation.
29 stops during a 4:21 video....I think that's a new record! 😂😂😂
When Joan Rivers called George Carlin Rufus is because before Keanu Reeves was famous as John Wick and the movie Speed with Sandra Bullock a young Keanu starred with Alex Winter in two 80’s movies Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure And The sequel Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey basically the premise of the first movie basically is a
Time traveler Named Rufus(George Carlin) said that you two are the only hope of saving the future in other words just watch the first movie about Bill and Ted Excellent Adventure! You won’t be sorry and that’s why George is Rufus in that reference
"Wilder than Gene, now that's a silver streak". Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor did several movies together, one of them called Silver Streak. I personally think Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor made a wonderful team.
"What dreams may come" with Robin and Cuba was my favorite movie of ALL time.
You ever see him in Awakenings with Robert De Niro? 😭
I did this on purpose. I will decide before the battle even begins. Carlin delivered introspective. Pryor was too prior. They both had a lot to deal with, but Carlin did it better.
Wilder then gene means gene wilder an actor he did movies with
Cosby also had a comedy sketch about getting painkillers at the dentist's and getting all wobbly.
I don't think I've seen anyone not react and have the "Got to set myself free" line go over their heads
The jenie had someone set him free, relieved from it's bonds and set free,
Robbin set himself free-
Richard Pryor Light himself on fire freebasing. He was seen running down the street with his head on fire. Running joke is you light a match and and say Richard Pryor running down the street. I didn't get it till I saw Richard Pryor Live On The Sunset Strip later as an adult.
Richard Pryor saying he is on fire. Is literally as he was lite on fire and lite himself when drugged up on fire
Watch George Carlin and Richard Pryor on Johnny Carson. They both said great things about Bill Cosby.
I love Pryors response when Joan asked him if they could talk lol 8:34
Comedy legends ❤
Gene Wilder played in several comedies with Richard Pryor. Silver streak, stir crazy, see no evil heartno evil, just to nana a few.
Gene Wilder (played Willie Wonka in the old movie), he and Pryor made (at least) 3 movies together (Stir Crazy is the only one that comes to mind though).
you'll be down for the count/when this count culture counterman/ serves you with a stand-uppercut you cant counter damn! Regarded as one of the most important and influential stand-up comedians of all time, he was dubbed "the dean of counterculture comedians". theres the counter culture reference then counterman part is a boxing reference to a specific style of boxing [out-boxing]where they wait for the perfect opportunity to counter punches. stand-uppercut is a double entendre playing on the words [stand-up comedy] and [standing-uppercut] which is an upper-cut thrown from a lower non-standard position which is hard to counter because upper-cuts are not usually thrown like that. That gentleman playing bill cosby is the voice actor for Uncle Ruckus on the The Boondocks FYI. :]
Gene Wilder did four movies with Pryor including Silver Streak
Gene Wilder, the original WIlly Wonka. He was frequently in movies with Richard Pryor. Bill Cosby did Jell-o pudding pop commercials, etc. Shame Cosby has the, uh, personal problems he had, dude was a fantastic comic. Carlin played Rufus in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Robin Williams was the GOAT.
Bill Cosby was a spokesman for jello pudding
Gene Wilder and Richard co-starred in 4 movies. -2 of them are actually funny!
He was talking about Gene Wilder...
I recommend you watch Gene Wilder in young Frankenstein...
Classic comedy
the pause on Pryor-rhea is boss level
Bill Cosby had an endorsement with Jell-O pudding, pop, and Coca-Cola and yes, Bill was putting stuff but I believe it was in the drink not the food🧐
Brain Droppings was a bestseller he wrote.
britt, have you seen the ERB of Jim Henson v Stan Lee? if not then react to it. it's a good one.
Gene wilder as an actor played Richard Pryor in stir crazy
