Totally agree about the mpg. I own the 200bhp 2.2D and cannot better 36mpg overall. But, You don't see many on the road and it look superb in carnelian red with the black grille and charcoal grey /black Cloth/leather upholstery. Downside - the steering wheel mounted rotary buttons for the cruise control are incredibly difficult to use. My BMW 330iSE was much better - a short flick on the lever changed speed by 1mph and a longer pull gave 10mph.
The EU let car manufacturers arrive at these high MPG figures by removing the fan belt so there is no drive to the alternator / air conditioning systems, running with higher tyre pressures than standard and using tape / blanking off vents to increase the streamlining, so all MPG figures should be recalculated down by 20% at ;least.
32mpg is appalling for a super polluting sooty diesel.... Never understood how somebody who can afford to spend £30k+ on a new car would then be daft enough to spec an underpowered 2.2d to save a few pennies.
2.2, avoid the 3.0 (chocolate engines), and the 2.0 in the later ones are horrendous. The 2.2 is the DW12, the 2.2 version of the 2.0 DW10 thats in the black mondeo. Only thing to watch on XFs is windscreens leak, any steamed windows etc walk away, the electrics under the seats cop for the water that comes in and corrode the connections on the ECUs, other than that they are really good cars. Cambelts are 72k or 5 years.
Think you are stuck in the 1970s or 80s still. British cars are more reliable than German cars these days, especially modern Jags they win JD Power surveys with ease.
Forget the Jaguar, you are far better with a BMW which you can hand over to the dealership to keep for months on end whilst they wait for parts because otherwise the car will go on fire. German engineering.....haha Don't even get me started on Audi who can't even stop their seats from falling apart and Mercedes quality is just a visual perception - squeaks, rattles etc.
hilarious, another UK review of a British vehicle. I thought whatcar would be far more objective than other UK reviewers, but this videos exposes all their biases. from the review: Old 2.2 diesel with enormous turbo lag and limited powerband Transmission's hesitant, poor visibility WORST infotainment system ever tested poor fuel economy bmw is cheaper good steering and soft suspension no problems after 1-year best of all: "This car might not have the technology or depth-of-engineering as its rivals but it has charm and curb-appeal".... Personally, i think the car is butt-ugly... i mean the butt is ugly. The Passat 5.5 wagon is still the best wagon design, IMHO. there are a multitude of superior vehicles at the same price point! are people fooled by these types of review, serious question?
+notformebeaky LOL, this car with ALL its faults received a 4 out-of 5 stars from whatcar, that is more than enough proof that this is a biased review. Internet rule of thumb: NEVER TRUST A BRITISH AUTO-REVIEWER!
+notformebeaky If whatcar gives practically every car a 4 out-of 5 star rating, then it's more of a marketing platform than a journalistic one. All cars are rated relative to what is currently selling, 0-60 mph is relative, 10-years ago 9-seconds was acceptable today it is 7-seconds. UK reviewers will say something like "sure the car cannot perform as well as it competitors, but it has charm and character" haha. british cars always get points for purely subjective criteria. UK auto-reviewers are biased checkout any review and read the comments, it's that obvious. This car was already outdated when this review was published. It deserves 1.5 out-of 5 stars.
+notformebeaky "Not a single company makes a bad car anymore" land rover is at the bottom of long-term reliability ratings, this is by Consumer Reports. Outdated is not subjective, if the xf cannot accelerate as well as it current competitors then it is outdated, this is measurable. Same goes for safety systems etc. If I were to say the design looks outdated then that would be subjective. "It's a review you berk, not a quantitative analysis. You can't measure comfort, you can't measure value, you can't measure style, you can't measure kerb appeal. " You fool, this was my argument in the first place. British reviewers overlook the real, measurable data which is were the points should be given and score on purely subjective things such as prestige, pedigree, blah, blah. At most 1-star could be attributed to these silly subjective criteria and the rest should be on driving dynamics, reliability, total-cost-of-ownership. When with comes to British autoreviewers reviewing UK cars, they are biased and give points on subjective criteria to even up the overall ratings. "I doubt you've ever driven one, I doubt you could ever afford one," I doubt you've ever driven something modern. I live 5 miles from Tesla HQ here in Silicon Valley, I have over 25K miles on my EV. I've have had a chance to drive Jags, even the new XJ LWB. The conclusion after every drive is that Jags just cannot compete on performance, efficiency and technology. Even sitting in the back of the XJ LWB seemed slightly cramped. Add to this the astronomic TCO of the Jag which makes it a POS. Let me put it this way, no one in Silicon Valley would be caught dead in a Jag. The defacto vehicle is the Tesla P90D followed by the new uber sedans from the vaderland. "You can't object to a subjective review, and then put down the car based on your own subjective views" lol, now the entire review is deemed subjective so its ok for the jag to get 4-out-of-5 stars. Like I said UK reviewers are biased and give way too many points on subjective criteria towards british cars. It's not just me that is stating this, it's an internet meme....
+notformebeaky JLR has to give long warranties because the reputation for reliability is very bad. This either costs the manufacturer or the owner. Anyone buying a british brand out-of-warranty is a fool... like you. Tesla already has done that, a Model S 70D costs $75k, has a range of 240mi and can be recharged in 8hrs at home or 1-hr at a supercharger. When total-cost-of-ownership is included it leaves the jag and other ICE cars in the stone age. "Tesla are NOT zero emission" that is what they are deemed by the EPA, stop your petty whining Tesla new Model 3, to be revealed this month will address the mass market with a $35k car that does over 200mi. "I'd happily have a Tesla though, if it was the same price as a 5 Series, but it's an absolute rip off." just because you cant do math doesn't mean it's a ripoff, you have to consider ALL costs, and then the tesla is CHEAPER than a BMW. Maybe with your budget you could buy a 3rd hand BMW. "Tesla competes with S-Class and XJ" ha ha ha. It's nothing like that size. have you been in a model s, do they allow you into a tesla showroom? FACT: the model s has comparable space and more storage "THey are all 5star NCAP cars." what does that mean, a honda odyssey scores better than a jag in govt tests. The Tesla has far more structural integrity than ANY OTHER CAR, more than what any current testing methodology can measure. Just the forces to crush the roof pillars are far greater for a tesla and a british barge...the jag. "Why would any companies be scared of a company that is yet to make a profit AND when they are already making and developing electric cars FOR THEMSELVES." Ok, so you are in denial or just cannot comprehend what is going on in the automotive industry. Tesla is building capacity to DOMINATE the market, you do understand how economies fo scale work right. They are developing electric cars because of TESLA, these are the words from Lutz when building the Volt: "We are not going to be upstaged by a bunch of programmers from silicon valley" Same goes for BMW with their i vehicles. But it is too late, its not just Tesla that will be selling EV, it could be GE, Samsung, Bosch, TATA, Mahindra, BYD, Siemens. I am going to enjoy the next decade, mostly because cars will be consumer electronics. There will be very little nationalism tied to products. It will be like an iPhone or high-end Android device, nobobdy cares which country builds it. This will really hurt the pride of euro-snobs and of course british pricks. Jag will be dead in its current incarnation within a few years, TATA will probably use the name and slap it on some generic EV. "Tesla WILL have minimal effect on the motoring industry UNLESS " lol, you cowardly tried to weasel out of giving a straight answer
+notformebeaky So, let me explain why long warranties: Low reliability cars (JLRs) need long warranties in-order to sell cars High reliability cars offer long warranties because it costs the manufacturer very little to honor the warranty. "NCAP is the GLOBAL method " ncap, iihs, nhsta, etc all have measurements, the Tesla goes far beyond their measurements. In some cases the Tesla should be getting 7-stars (roof strength) Just look and any crash test of the Model S, you know it can take a lot more punishment IN order for Tesla to be successful they have to do 4 things. >>1. Make a car that matches petrol/diesel range, e.g 400 miles. You don't need to drive 400 miles in one day, if that is the case then don't buy a Tesla. And for the times that you do, most households will have a gasoline vehicle or the best option rent a car. I know many people with gasoline cars that will rent and drive 2k miles rather than put mileage on their car. 2. Fully charge in the time it takes to fill a car with petrol/diesel. Not required, remember EVERY MORNING you have full range. Right now most Tesla owners wake up with 250mi range in the morning. 3. Be as cheap as a normal car. Again, total-cost-of-ownership.. the Model S does this vs MB / BMW, the Model 3 will do it with the rest 4. Have a network of charging stations commensurate with petrol stations. There is a huge network, it's called your garage, apartment charging plug and of course tesla superchargers >>Tesla haven't been particularly innovative. again, go to your local pub and say that line, it will be a laugh track Tesla's battery technology itself is very advanced, in fact they suggested using Tesla batteries in the boeing 787 since boeing batteries keep exploding I don't think you understand that the automotive industry has been essentially the same for the last 50 years, Tesla is a disruptor. Again, sit back and watch the next decade. If you are a nationalistic car dude then it's going to be a bumpy ride.
Best reviewer by far!
yes, it has a charm

for a second there I thought he was James May...
What car, owned by Germans and the mouthpiece for BMW. Would NEVER buy your anti British magazine
I have a 2.2 diesel sportbrake,2013 with only 16,000miles.I drive it sensibly everywhere and struggle to get much over 32mpg.
Wow...that's put me off a little.
@@michaelroxby3937 Probably coming up to 18000 now, 32 is about it round town+ if i go on a journey can get up to 38.4 but no more.

Does this not somewhat make a mock of your own True MPG figures? As you say, you're getting nearly 20% worse economy!
"True MPG figures" are never that. If you read the small print, you'll see that they're over a number of specific drive cycles.
James May on heroin?
+Montagoo hahahaha best
He look like paul mccartney too! haha

Moteur with belte or moteur with chaine ?
2.2 Chain, 3.0 Belt.
Wow
Ah, the English and their never-ending admiration for their cars so brilliantly engineered to break down for the slightest of issues.
Think you are stuck in the 1970s or 80s still. British cars are more reliable than German cars these days, especially modern Jags they win JD Power surveys with ease.
Rather hilarious and very ironic, coming from an American.
Neither, Audi or the Merc
