Wonderful to see you picked one of our DIO live performances for your DIO medley. I was his last DIO bassist. Since his passing I haven’t felt on stage a vocal energy and command like his. Thank you for celebrating Ronnie’s musical legacy. Rudy Blessings and health Rudy
I remember talking to dave meniketti about ronnie. He said how amazing he was without any warming up, etc. Dave and ronnie my two favorite vocalists....
Long Live Rudy. You are one of my Heroes and living legends and one of the best bass player on earth, and Ronnie the King is my favorite singer of all time. I have all his albums from the 50's til' his last song. I wish you all my best from the bottom of my heart. Keep Rockin' man, don't stop.
Dio's tone was remarkable. Combined with his unbelievable range and note selections made him brilliant and very difficult to copy. His vibrato was so natural. Just a beautiful voice.
Dio's voice is so deceptive. At first you think he's just has a deep growly voice. Then you realize he is singing lots of A4s and B4s. Those notes are higher than you may think.
Ronnie James Dio's voice is so underrated. The way he carries the note forever! awesome! Damn you are pretty good too! Ronnie James a little Italian American man with a huge voice, could have done opera just as good and he invented the devil horns which is an old Italian symbol to keep the "evil eye" away! God, I miss when music was good!
I always find it amazing how Dio started as a doo-wop singer, then reinvented himself as a '70s rocker, and then reinvented himself once again as a metal god. Although Dio can have dark lyrics, Heaven and Hell, like most Sabbath songs, if you read the lyrics, is actually decrying evil rather than glorifying it. "The devil is never a maker - The less that you give, you're a taker."
It's not on the album version. In the live sets since the 80s with Sabbath he added the part "a little white shape looked down at me ". " Said I know where you ought to be". " I said go away I'm gonna burn in Hell with all of you "! Dio didn't believe in God or the devil for that matter. He always said for himself, Heaven and hell was right here on Earth.
From my understanding, Heaven and Hell was about the music industry, record producers, etc and how they would take advantage of the musicians. We will never fully know for sure but I can totally see it with the lyrics, makes total sense.
I agreed because he was iconic! But best ever? I don't know man. So many greats! Rob Halford, Chris Cornell, Layne Stayley. Man, I don't know! Who cares anyway!? Enjoy all the greats!

Ken, I chatted with Ronnie a few times throughout the years, and one of the most genuine things about Ronnie? He was the first person to tell anyone he'd be nothing without his fans. Always had time for them as well. There will never be another Ronnie James DIO. This is for my friend. Rest Easy Ronnie, Rest Free. For you are now where one day we'll all be. Thy load now light, thy tasks now done, thy battles with dragons won. Rest Easy Ronnie, Rest Free.
One of my favourite singers. Great range, tone and power, made it look so easy. Never, ever heard him sing a bum note. I have everything he ever did and I'm especially fond of the Rainbow albums where he often employed lighter, even bluesier tones (check out Rainbow's version of Deep Purple's 'Mistreated' from the 'On Stage' album, it is so much better than David Coverdale's original vocal. Not that the original was bad at all, but Ronnie breathes so much more life into it). I remember Doug Aldrich saying that Ronnie wasn't in good health when they played together, but that he still gave everything he had, bless his heart. Not merely a metal singer, but I think he was THE best heavy metal vocalist around.
He is definitively the personification of the heavy metal, and of course one the Metal Gods along with Rob Halford and Bruce Dickinson, among a few others I would put in the Metal Pantheon personally. But those three are to me the rulers of the Metal Olympus, the Zeus, Poseidon and Hades of Metal.
Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy Hi Ken, could you do a video about David Lee Roth’s scream and the vocal technique used? Runnin’ With the Devil perhaps? Thank you in advance! God bless
Omg! What an amazing performance!! Ronnie is one of my favorite singers of all time and Vivian Campbell is absolutely filthy!! I love your reaction and emphasis on technique. You walk the walk!
The first time I heard your student, Gabby Gun, cover "Man in the Box" I thought she sounded like Dio. I see your appreciation for his style in your coaching, I love it.
Hey Ken, loved your reaction to The Master Of Metal. (In my opinion, there will never be another one like Ronnie!) He was such an epic singer and frontman. He also was a very humble kindhearted person, and is greatly missed. I love when you sing here and there along with the song. Your voice is the closest to Ronnie's that I've heard yet. You are a beast!! Thank you, peace, and keep rocking!
We been gone for a week at my sons Military graduation..just was able to see this reaction vid. Ken, this one here REALLY goes a long way to showing anyone who wants to learn how to sing, or perform...how to manipulate their voice and not over do it. Ronnie is THE MAN when it comes to that, in my opinion. I totally see why you use him as an example. As far as I am concerned, he could have sang Opera and pulled it off. He was that good. The gold standard. Gonna go check out your other vids that I may have missed. Kudos Ken and God Bless. ..oh btw...more Ronnie James Dio is never a bad thing lol...I could watch that guy sing all day.
Ronnie had an extremely diverse voice especially considering he broke out in the late 50's. Ronnie and the Recaps if I recall, I know he had two bands around that time the one song I remember is An Angel Is Missing.
Ken, first, you really kill me when you "imitate" Ronnie Jame Dio (in the movements) you are very funny! I like you so much! And when you sing "like him" you are amazing!! (I've already told you in other videos). Returning to Ronnie I agree with you he was a great singer… that big and powerful voice always in tune! In fact as you I'm not into all the dark lyrics and this kind of stuff but I respect his talent! I have a friend (she is a woman) who is a big fan of Metallica and Dio. Unfortunately we don't see each other often but she is a amazing friend (she introduced me to Richie Kotzen many years ago) but when we see each other ..we start singing like kids "Holy Diver"! What memories! Thanks Ken for this video. ps: speaking of Ronnie James Dio I stumbled upon a Joey Tempest's tribute video to him yesterday night (it's a recent thing). It is very touching. It is a version with acoustic guitar and voice of "heaven and hell". I hope you like it.
what a great time it was to be alive and a teenager. I mean man.. We had RJD, Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford, Geoff Tate, Michael Sweet and the list goes on and on for incredible vocalists. Then we had Randy Rhoads (for way to short of a time), EVH, Vivian Campbell, Jake E. Lee, Vito Bratta, George Lynch, Adrian Smith and Dave Murray, Dave Miniketti, Steve Lynch, Carlos Cavazo, Warren Dimartini, Mick Mars and the list goes on and on as well. Man such an amazing time... so much incredible talent. What happened?
Ken, not to get mushy or anything..but wanted to tell you that you and your students bring much joy to not only me and my husband, but our kid who is in a brand new place away from home right now...in fact, the next 26 weeks. It really helps his morale while he's on base in between detail and so forth. You DO make a big impact for our soldiers at home and abroad. My sons fave singer happens to be RJD and Bruno Mars. Rock on Ken! God Bless...and back to work for me lol.
ArmyMomHeatherC. You've touched my heart! Thank you to your son, for his service, and thank you for the sacrifices your family is making for all of us. God bless you and God bless America! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
4:58 Cheers! May I suggest the 1986 sacred heart tour in Philadelphia. It's blue ray taped on youtube and super high quality, and the guitar tone is SICK! Love your tone when singing his songs, it sounds so much like him!👍
Dio's been the most badass heavy rock singer. His voice's filled up all enviorment. So natural and powerfull. God blesses you Ronnie! And so do you Ken!
Dio contributed his vocal ability (at least partially) to all those hours and years of playing trumpet, which gave him great lung power and breath control.
YAS, it's my favorite Dio tune actually! And, fun fact, I had to sing this song to a karaoke two years ago, and i prepared it with some of your vids, and I didn't do so bad with your help! So thanks :D
Great video of the legend and this was a great lineup Vivian was an influence on me as a guitarist and Vinnie Appice is a great drummer and a really cool guy. I'm really digging your content man great work. 👌🤘
I saw you singing Neon Nights and a was mesmerize by how you sound good! The vocal was flawless and is a difficult song to sing. I'm not a singer but my impression was that it was hard. Great job!
Love Dio. Always great inspiration for me as a rock band singer. Yes, I was in a band for a while, though I've always been most time singing in duos or alone, but he's been always an exemple to follow. Thanks for the video.
Magic... I think generations of singers took things from Dio. On 2009, may 9 if i remember well, I could see Heaven and Hell in Argentina, one of his latest presentations. He looked a little sick, but he left his heart on the stage as usual. We all cried excited that night, one of the best voices I heard. Thanks Ken 4 this video.
Hallo Ken! Thanks for the Video! Ronnie James Dio was one of the best and Most important heavy Metal singers.....and Holy Diver Just a famtastic Album! LG
I BEEN REWATCHING YOUR RJD vids during the covid 19 thing...been hunkered down..and this video may be the most amazing because Ronnie is much older in this clip on the second song here...and he is ill. HIS VOICE TONE IS STILL FLAWLESS.. HE PULLED IT OFF. The man was gifted. THANKS KEN.
Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy hey Ken, I’m a big fan of yours, I’m from Argentina. I hope you analize some of Axl’s live vocals during his 1992 tour (Paris, Argentina) or even his performance with Tom Petty during the 1989 VMA where he absolutely kills it. THANKS!!!
I always love to watch anything Dio especially these days. When he would do a solo tour he’d even filter in a bunch of Rainbow in at different times. The guy was a vocal monster until the end.
His enunciation is second to none in the rock world. VERY crisp and deliberate in each letter. HUGE presence, the very classical style of presence. I could go on and on about the guy, but there's no need to. All others know exactly what I'm speaking about and, Ken, absolutely awesome singing along with him! One of the very best I've heard! Keep up the awesome channel!
Added note while watching this video...the one thing I ALWAYS loved about Dio is that he genuinely comes off as nice guy. While performing on stage, he retained that heavy metal badass type of look...but he never looked evil, mean, or sinister. Just a truly fantastic performer.
La verdad es que conocí a Dio gracias a tu canal Ken ya que antes no solía escuchar mucho metal o Hard Rock y ahora me flipa Dio y canciones como esta o children of the sea son la ostia.Saludos Ken Y que viva el Rock💪🔝
Never knew his height, but Ronnie was the Supreme Wizard of the metal voices - wow! While I was the 'new waver,' my younger brother was the metal-head, but we both shared our idols with one another! Thanks for highlighting Mr. Dio, Ken! I too get that metal bug when I hear this tune!
I love it love it love it! Dio is what natural talent, honed skills, and magic sound like. Ken ....your Dio is spot on!!! I got chills as I always do when the entro comes on and I didn't expect it! I am extremely judgemental toward musicians and especially singers, but you certainly make my list of lifetime favorites. I find it humble and kind that choose to teach rather that force your way to the top!!! Love ya!!! And the (Yngwie reference!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)!!!
Ken I hope you know you are a better singer than all the people you react to.. you are a rock legend in your own right. And for me you are much much more of an inspiration than Dio. Can't wait to get your lessons next month
Vinnie Appice what a great beast playing behind was really a fundamental part to Dio band and of course Ronnie simply the best, every time I heard dio I can't stop feeling crazy things running through my mind, I feel a sad feeling, also I love Vivian he is out of this planet.
Dear Ken. I found your stuff from your video on the Last in Line. Your voice is fantastic. Dio is my favourite singer ever, I would go as far as to say he is the best male rock / metal singer who will ever live. He was outstanding. The thing is that he was so special live... There are so many gems that were recorded live. My personal favourite being his Rainbow in the Dark from Donnington 87. His power at the end of the song is out of this world. I have no idea how or why I find his singing so moving, but I do. The world is a better place for having him contribute so much music. Do you think there is any truth to the rumour that Dio had no formal training? I don't know much about singing, but I'd like to hear your opinion. Great videos!
1.Any time you do a Dio video, I know I can like it before it even starts playing. 😎 I wish more modern metal singers would've taken influence from him. 2. I've always heard a lot of his style in your voice which is probably one of the reasonsI totally got into your albums. (Still hoping you do another one....) 3. I love your shirt! I have a red one that is nearly identical.
Hell ya great reaction to one of the best singers to ever pick up a mic. Ronnie was a force of nature on this earth. I have so much respect for this guy. from the 50's all the way into late 2010 . He was such a nice guy, There is a sadness about his life also that I won't go into but I can only hope in the end He made peace with his Maker. Great reaction and a great homage to one of the greats. Thanks Ken.
What's most impressive about about him was the way he delivered this stuff with seemingly no effort at all, song after song, album after album and year after year. Others may emulate very well, but you can always see the red-faced, straining and sweating. I really miss the guy - what a talent.
Dio just had it!! There's a story from Eddie Trunk that he'd been hanging out with Dio before a gig and Ronnie got the 10 minutes to stage time call, Eddie being respectful asked if he needed some warm up time. Ronnie kinda bemused told Eddie to sit down and relax . Eddie was sat waiting for some kind of trick, nothing, right up to the point that he walked with Ronnie to the side of the stage and Eddie watched in awe as Dio killed it for an hour. Just a natural talent on that dude. Always had huge respect for Dio. I was in on a train Zurich, Switzerland the day he passed.. It was on one of the newspapers on the table, recognised Dio immediately and understood nothing except 'R.I.P Dio.'... huge loss ✌️❤️ true legend
Wonderful to see you picked one of our DIO live performances for your DIO medley. I was his last DIO bassist. Since his passing I haven’t felt on stage a vocal energy and command like his. Thank you for celebrating Ronnie’s musical legacy.

Dio was a monster talent, no doubt. He always brought the metal and just killed it live. Amazing.

Despite hitting pretty high notes in full voice, Dio looks absolutely relaxed. And that's one more reason why he's unique.
His voice conveys so many things all at once.... rebellion, hope, sadness, fear, strength, courage, determination, etc
Absolutely, shark3939!

@@kentamplin You are the best vocal coach ken...❤❤❤
Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy hey Ken, I’m a big fan of yours, I’m from Argentina. I hope you analize some of Axl’s live vocals during his 1992 tour (Paris, Argentina) or even his performance with Tom Petty during the 1989 VMA where he absolutely kills it. THANKS!!!
I wish i can hit those high notes, but I'm baritone, but still I hit some alto and soprano high notes with my falsetto as F#5, G5 (not cool to hear).
Athanas ken is also a baritone. Don’t limit yourself, bro.
I always love to watch anything Dio especially these days. When he would do a solo tour he’d even filter in a bunch of Rainbow in at different times. The guy was a vocal monster until the end.
Amazing Ken! Need you to come to South Africa!!!!
Dio is just a beast. Probably one of the, if not the best metal vocalist. Thanks for featuring him, Mr. Ken!
AMAZING....that's it,just amazing!!! Seeing this man live was nothing short of amazing. There's nothing else I can say.
Ken, new sub! Love your reviews so far, both have been dio, my favorite metal singer of all times, with bruce dickenson right behind him...
Thanks, John!
Deetroiter 👍👍👍
Deetroiter He was a very nice guy.

Thank you for verifying that! So fantastic that you had the opportunity to meet with him!
La verdad es que conocí a Dio gracias a tu canal Ken ya que antes no solía escuchar mucho metal o Hard Rock y ahora me flipa Dio y canciones como esta o children of the sea son la ostia.Saludos Ken Y que viva el Rock💪🔝
Antonio Ruiz Muñoz Glad you discovered Dio.
Met him in New Hampshire and yeah he was about 5'2'' and a 100lbs if that but the voice coming out of that tiny body
Love. Vinnie's one of my all time favorites too. He's was a big influence on my drumming
Thanks Jode!
Adoro seus vídeos. Você é uma grande pessoa. Forte abraço. Seu fã do Brasil!!
We Love you Dio❤!! For ever and ever The Voice Of Metal🤘Thanks for this awesome video dude!!!!
I'm glad you liked it, SDS 4Life!
Very informative, thank you! And you’ve got a great voice sir!
You’re so funny at the beginning! When I hear Dio, it’s metal mode lol. Very cool video!
Live Music Shows It was a time of such great music!
So much talent in such a small man, miss him so badly.
(Still hoping you do another one....)
3. I love your shirt! I have a red one that is nearly identical.
I love when you do vocal coach reactions to Ronnie James Dio.
Love this😊having fun ken?😘🙏safe travels✌🤙
Thanks, Cindy Sue. I am.
Thanks Ken.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Bill!
Awesome react!!! I love Dio. 👏👏👏 Beautiful video. You're a rainbow in the dark.
Thank you, Tamy!!
What a killer analysis by Ken and a hell of a performance by the mighty Dio. He's sorely missed.
I go all the way back to Ronnie Dio & The Prophets. He was great then.
VIDEOHEREBOB👍
I love Ronnie for more than 40 years, since I saw him in 1977 with
the great Rainbow Band.
Rock on!
He is so missed!
Love the head banging!!! And what a voice!
hobnob1979👍
THE MARIO LANZA OF ROCK !!!....AT 4FT10...AMAZING VOICE...(KENS AND RONNIES) THANKYOU...K.T.!
I recently found your chaannel...you are so good at what you do!
Yesss Dio is also 1 of my favorite bands :) R.I.P Ronnie
TheLassenman❤️
Loved Doug in the band LION!
Great vid, RJD was a vocal master until his death. R.I.P!
Great, great vocalist. Nice video
Dio played trumpet as a child. Maybe this helped his technique.
He never lost his voice as did Coverdale, Gillan and Plant.
Thanks for the visit! Rock on!
