About the whole JJK stuff. The authors of JJK and Chainsaw Man are actually friends and take inspiration from each other. Fujimoto, the author of CSM even joked about CSM being a rip-off of JJK. So yeah, you can expect certain similarities.
I hate when youtube comments are like "OH MY GOD WAIT UNTIL EPISODE X IT'S GONNA BLOW YOUR MIND" and stuff like that, so all I'll say is : Yes there's more to it than Denji being down bad !
Yeah those people are the worst. They don't even realize that they spoil it by creating expectations. If you know that something exciting will happen, every plottwist loses the surprise aspect.
I feel like a lot of people just boil Denji down to being perverted. But you also have to remember he literally hasn't had a normal life. He was living in a small rundown shack, constantly in debt and eating small pieces of bread. No freedom, no happiness, just constant work. The reason why he reacts the way he does is because this is the first time in his life he can relax, eat good food and be normal. Sure, Makima still treats him like a dog, but at the very least, his doghouse got bigger. And Aki and Power seem nice enough.
Also only real human interactions were with Yakuza who were using him and also were being used by a devil. Like legit this dude don't know how to human and raging hormones of a teenager at the same time.
Also if him going from being essentially a feral child with no world experience to where he is now as a 16 year old kid you gotta be stupid to think he wouldn't have the motivations he has.. like shit. Denji is the most relatable MC with that context. Also he does get good development which peaks through this episode a bit it's just a bit.. simple...as of now and will grow as the series progresses.
Its definitely a stick to measure how he reacts to things. He's a 16 year old with no education, no social skills, no friends and no real world interactions. He's a pretty blank slate, but with puberty hormones in full. I don't think end of series Denji is as good as he is if he isn't immature and horny at the start

many people say Denji's dream is ridiculous, but is it? by the way, when Denji said I want to hug her again or something, Aki was like "wtf are you talking about?" it's because the japanese word for hug simply means hug someone or something, but it also means "get laid". that's why Aki looked like he was pissed off.
I think people's expectations are off and that is partially because people hyped up Denji when he has never been close to the most popular character in the series. He is an interesting character, but not who people actually like (he has never been voted higher than 4th on character polls). I view him as kind of a Thorfinn like character in that he enhances other characters through his simplicity, but has the opportunity to evolve as well.

Yeah he was in survival mode for all his life of course his goals won`t be grand he is also teen and never got affection but doesn`t think non transactional affection is something he will get so the easiest thing is basic physical stuff
Like you guys said, Denji's never had any of his basic human needs satisfied before, once he does satisfies some like food and shelter, he seeks affection that he relates to sexuality (which is another basic human need) because he never had any of it, he doesn't know/understands anything about human relationships or complex feelings... So in his naiveness, he can only think of boobs as his "ultimate goal". This "boobs" thing has more depth than it seems at first, and I promise you guys that there is definetly a whole more to learn about Denji and his goals/motivations as the story goes on. I can speak for all the manga readers when I say that you can expect a really wild and deep story, it won't be ultra popular if the only theme were boobs or sexuality.
as the last chapter of Part 1 ended back in 2020, it became one of my favorite mangas i've read, the story , the characters and the symbolism, Fujimoto writes characters that he became one of my favorite mangaka
Agreed - plus He’s also 16. At 16 I think this is something on most peoples minds lol. It’s a refreshing take on a Shonen protagonist’s goal. It’s not something as grand as save the world riddled by devils or whatever. It’s I wanna touch some boobs.

The way Fujimoto writes characters and how they are really realistic, how he entails themes and ties things up, and how he conveys emotions through paneling just made him one of my favorite mangakas. Chainsaw Man (Part 1) doesn't have a single bad or boring chapter, the story gets progressively better, and the way things come to conclusion is chef's kiss. Those last 20 chapters are amazing, but the last 5 (93-97) is just pure CINEMA.

Denji is a teenager with hormones going wild AND with desperate need for human connections, so yes, sexuality plays a big part in the story, and his naivety is a reason for many plot points. It's not for comic relief, it's for character development and for major story related events to even happen.
Yeah, even if you are anime only like myself, it is easy to see this narrative set up. Everything about it makes sense. You gotta start somewhere simple, it was where we ALL started, the most simplistic bare bones motivations.

Btw, no characters were 3D in this episode, including Denji in the car. Even the background characters weren't. It's just really smooth 2D with realistic lighting, shading, and movement.
Denji is just going through Maslow's hierarchy of needs as he is actually living his life for the first time. That's the best way to explain his development. So you can now see how he will grow later.
If you wanna know where the story might be going or what kind of writing you can expect from Fujimoto, you can read one of his one shots online like "goodbye eri". It's godlike storytelling.
You can tell how nuanced an individuals thought process is by how easily they only see things on the surface. Yes the show and the mangaka in the manga presented the underlying "Denji lacks human connection" via "I want to touch boobs". However if you think about it that is pretty easy for a teenager to do, Denji doesn't truly grasp all the complexities of the human experience or how to connect with others or even that it is what he is truly desiring. So it is HUMAN to then grab on something that is CONNECTED to the thing you truly are search for before actually understanding the thing you are searching for. So yes, teenage boy that is stunted in maturity is going to first think "I want boobs" or "I want sex" or "I want a girlfriend" before they realize that what they really want is a sense of belonging and to connect with others.
This is why I like group reactions more than solo reactions. In a group, people can have different opinions for the show. They can have an actual discussion instead of just fawning over the events of the show in a lesser summary. CSM is the gift that keeps on giving.
I mean, the charisma of the show at the beginning is how grounded and human Denji's motivations are in this ridiculous world, it's refreshing to not see a protaginist with big aspirations, seems like y'all wanted the same thing we see on every shonen. Suffice it to say, the anime isn't just Denji after boobs, idk if I'll keep watching the reactions cuz your discussions and jujutsu comparisons aren't really doing it for me, but i hope y'all get to see why we love this story.
So since you guys seem confused, all the character animation in the past two episodes, besides a couple shots where Denji was Chainsaw Man last episode, are 2D. The reason it looks 3D is because of how fluid the motions are on the 2D drawings for the characters. The animators brought onto this show are legendary, and are what some would consider the "anime avengers." The quality should be this great throughout the next 10 episodes.
I think theyre artifically increasing the framerate of the animations, since most animation studios have access to programs like that, part 5 of JoJo's made use of that program when Burno fought King Crimson for the 1st time and his punches looked super smooth

No spoilers don’t worry, but the show will for sure be one of your favorites. The amount of crazy things that happen and how everything progresses is so unique and well done. I thought it was going to be a generic shonen when I started reading, and it’s almost my favorite manga, just slightly behind attack on Titan. Only barely though
Denjis goal is pretty realistic and he literally has never had a normal life so the bare minimum is his dream. It would be more unrealistic if he just suddenly wanted to “be some The Greatest Devil Hunter in the World” or “want to Change the World.” The main characters goal doesn’t have to be out of this world. Most people in life have simple or more down to earth goals and for him it’s the same. He’s had a very bad life and has never received love besides maybe Pochita and has never received intimacy. He also never finished school and didn’t really have a social life, so he’s very naive and childlike in that sense. So he has a very superficial idea about love and easily falls for people who are somewhat nice to him because nobody before has been nice to him. So it makes perfect sense for him to have the basic goal of intimacy of just wanting to touch Boobs and also just Eat Bread with Jam. Anyways great reaction guys, can’t wait for you guys to continue watching this show.
Fair reminder that Denji is not your typical family gene pool formula of anime protagonist, he's starting out an average teenager. And it's a normal thing for every teenage men of peak puberty to have a basic needs and goals such as touching boobs. He's different from itadori in that he hasn't figured his purpose yet due to living in poverty and focused on just survival. For some people he's more relatable than most anime MC with big goals.

Without saying anything about the source material, it’s important for the author to develop and set a baseline personality so character development doesn’t feel rushed or forced and it comes of as genuine, realistic, and impactful.
I see some hates on the comments and I just want to say that even if I don't agree with some of the thoughts about Denji, I love your reactions and find it interesting to hear that point of view. Denji does have more to him than simply a "simp wanting to touch boobs" but at face value that's what most people would think of him. Love your reactions, keep it up! ;)
CSM is one of those properties you just have to keep watching and know that it will deliver on the characters and story. I would view it as sort of like Jujutsu Kaisen in that you don't have the full scope of what can happen until after more about the world is explained. Another way of thinking about it is that while CSM is loved by an incredibly diverse group of fans, they are not all given their dessert at the same time, and in terms of story, CSM takes a bit to get going. I only say this because the manga too had plenty of people giving up on it in the opening chapters because they were looking for something that had not yet developed. I have yet to meet someone who went back and finished the series who has regretted doing so.

It’s also appears in opening in the first second behind Denji. This picture is from “The Divine Comedy” by Dante Alighieri, it is attributed to the moment “The spirit of Navarre chose well his time, Planted his feet on land, and at one leap Escaping disappointed their resolve” (since I have this book in my home library, then I checked it myself, but I have it in Russian, and I took the translation from the electronic English version, there may be translation flaws, so sorry if something is wrong). So, the bottom line is that, like the spirit of Navarre, Danji decides to "jump" into this new life in order to avoid the "execution", just like Navarro's father ruined the entire estate, leaving it to his son, whom the baron then took as his slave, and later the king too, in the service of which the son indulged in passion, also and Denji’s father leaved him with big debt, Makima took him like a dog and he now have lustful dreams, because he can think about something other, instead only how to survive). He leaves the past terrible life, in a happier one (in his opinion). HOWEVER, later in the book, a demon (presumably someone in the future) set off after him to got him back, but did not have time. Very chic Fujimoto's work on the details! And in the end, I would also like to say that despite how pretty Makima is shown, something terrible, terrible is felt in her ... they perfectly conveyed the atmosphere and aura of the character, very interesting to know more about her. I’m translated this based on my own knowledge of English, so there are may be mistakes, sorry for them😅
Fujimoto stated to get the characters and manga more mainstream he had to abide by certain tropes( i.e., the trio trope) as a means to curtain his more wierd touches in terms of story and character direction, which will be explored in later chapters of the show...
All I’ll say is Chainsaw Man does not go about booba grabs and pervert stuff in the same way most anime does. - The trio thing is interesting. The way I put it together is the altruistic hero, the serious rival, and GIRL. And I think CSM subverts those tropes. Our altruistic hero just wants to live a comfortable life and not save the world, our serious rival is more like an older brother/ parent, and our GIRL (Power) isn’t trying to be cheery or please the main character. Makima kinda fits in the boss/teacher role to keep everybody in check.
I mean he is not really trashy wanting that kind of goal though considering what he went through. It's not like he will do it without the consent of others (he isn't that kind of person I read the manga)
Normally animes have 12 fps, but Chainsaw man has many scenes done in 24 fps (a lot of in-betweens), so it looks smoother than normal and for people who don't actually know much about Animation, they will say it's 3D
Despite what some people might say, the painting in Makima's office is not the painting we see later. This one depicts a scene from Dante's Inferno, where a sinner in Hell is fleeing from a demon.
2:15 This actually isn't 3D. I mean, it does look like it, but that's because it's just so well animated. It's not an actual CG model of Denji there. Also, Chainsaw Man's story gets way WAY better as it progresses and to be honest a lot of these earlier parts become extra impactful once you have the full context of the story. There is a reason behind Denji being horny as well, as awkward as it starts out. And it'll get a lot better
Waiting until they get to the meat of the story to realize Chainsaw Man is so much better than JJK. Coming from someone who's following both mangas, Chainsaw has so much more to offer. Fujimoto's storytelling is just something above.
I mean I wouldn't say that is so much better that is a stretch i think both are somewhat relative and have strong points and weak points. and both are more modern manga that have fast pacing they are similair in that and and are somewhat dark with chainsaw man being a bit darker I would say. But yeah chainsaw man is a good manga with a somewhat interesting story despite being weird, it has weird aspects but if you can look past that or you are used to that stuff in anime you obviously will like it. What I will say is that chainsaw man for how wacky it is and how it is written it does stand out from the other battle shonen.

I also think the story suffers from shitty pacing, bizarre decisions, broken expectations in weird timings, generic tropes, bland dialogue (seriously, characters are always explaining what they just did and what they are about to do; take this in contrast with Fujimoto who is a master of the "show, don't tell" and said in a recent interview that he tries to keep text to a minimum). I like the worldbuilding, the characters, but the exposition is so much... explanation of techniques, of new characters, why this dude that just appeared is a badass because he is from this clan of badasses. I'm really not a fan of the storytelling, of the writing. I started reading both almost at the same time and ofttimes I struggled with JJK, while I devoured CSM. I respect your opinion though! But I do think Chainsaw is *a lot* better.

I say chainsaw man is even faster paced then jujutsu kaisen if anything like compare the 96 of part 1 chapters of chainsaw man and jujutsu kaisen and you find that chainsaw man has gone completely haywire throughout the entire manga... So I kinda disagree on that one chainsaw man is just as chaotic fast with a lot bizarre stuff happening and random stuff that don't get explained and show and don't tell has it's flaws it doesn't work for everything.. Some gross even. I can't comment on any broken expectations or timings you have. But when it comes to generic tropes i don't think JJK is really that generic also generic doesn't really matter the execution matters. Chainsaw man while unique I will admit it is more unique then JJK it definitely has it's own generic tropes. Aki is very much a trope character, but that doesn't really matter because he is executed well same thing goes for most stuff in JJK. Jujutsu kaisen is more generic in the fact that it is is a power system fighting manga chainsaw man doesn't really have a set power system that everyone has so it doesn't need the same amount of explanation because devils are all different in chainsaw man. It's not a verse made around cursed energy or nen or whatever the fuck. Also jujutsu kaisen has a lot of things that need to be told to be honest the powers are very diverse it's kinda important in chainsaw man show and don't tell and works because stuff is very simple for example you don't have to explain what a chainsaw man can do it's pretty self explanatory. Just like how it's not hard to tell what a blood devil may be capable of you can make it complex but it's not needed.

I feel like chainsaw man with it's chaotic pacing even more so then JJK and the speed of conflict and the devil stuff I think chainsaw man takes a bit longer to digest. Like I can remember jujutsu kaisen of my head way easier then chainsaw man chainsaw man feels like it may need at least a second reread for a good digesting of the story not that it is a bad thing. I think you guys aren’t grasping what exactly Power is. She’s not the case of Denji who’s a perfect Devil/human hybrid. She’s a corpse, who is being possessed by a Devil. The girl we’re seeing probably died months ago, and all that’s left of a Devil using her body to move and talk, like the bugs in Men in Black And most importantly, Fiends, are known by everybody. To the point that it’s even taught in SCHOOLS. Because they are that dangerous as they are devils hiding in human form. That’s why she needs to stay out of sight.

I recently started reading Vagabond after I got caught up on Vinland which are both in a broad sense about people finding purpose in life. So it's weird to come to this and Denji's purpose being so simple, I agree with Will though there's got to be more to it.
I was very busy and now I finally watched this whole episode. You asked what I think about boobs, what are my dreams in life and what I think about this show. When it comes to boobs I think woman should follow "The New Anime Plot" and man shouldn't have it. 🤣 My dreams is to find a well paid job, girlfriend and have at least three kids with her. Great reaction as usual. Although I'm not with Sam on this one(team @Will). But at the same time, I understand that Sam's not that very familiar with anime in general, I do admit that I struggled myself when first started watching animes after AOT, because of it's realistic take on the events, other animes felt stupid to me, cause I expected in a world with devils/curses, the characters should be scared.. But I can tell that both Jujutsu Kaisen and CSM are trying to balance that through comedy and goofy stuff. At the very least to me since I'm an anime only, even JJK's goofy moments were for a reason(Yuji fought a doll, to show the principal's cursed technique and to say to each has its own technique, it also helped Yuji steeling his resolve if he chose to be a jujutsu sorcerer..), I think since CSM's author is close with Akutami(JJK's mangaka),I'm pretty sure that there will be more to Denji than just that..
Ah complaining about something that makes complete narrative sense if you use even just 2 brain cells for more a single second to ponder on Denji as a character and what you know about him and this world thus far. Gotta love when people don't understand basic narrative things.
I'm with Will. JJK does have some stupid things but the whole premise is stopping an immensely powerful evil entity from awakening and taking over the whole world from episode 1. And it has pretty mature and dark stuff going on sometimes besides the goofiness. It's very different. Now, we are just in episode 2 of this anime. I agree with Will that it would get boring if it's always only about boobs but I'm sure it will get more complex. People praise it and I'm confident there are more reasons than 2 for it 🤣. They still have plenty of room to add nuance to the plot and characters. I'm faithful.
That boob thing does bother me at first but you'll see its more than just a joke along the way. IMO that's probably many of the lines are comedy gold but some seems cheap and immature to some
i mean well the first episode has somebody being cut up and but in a trashcan of course this anime isn't just about comedy and goofy i mean i don't think you should expect only that since you watched the first episode.. Yes denji is funny and pervy but chainsaw man is a very dark show I think it's probably the darkest shonen manga currently fujimoto gets away with a lot of gore, i was thinking about jujutsu kaisen but i say that is more chaotic and more murder happy then jujutsu kaisen. So I would say it is a few inches darker then jujutsu kaisen. Also when it comes silly premises about characters don't forget that todo beat up megumin just because he didn't like his answer on what type of girl he liked. But I love my boy todo tho but yeah.
Well the reason CSM is dark is not gore, more like (spoilers) Makima being manipulative bitch, who groomed and abused a minor, also causing events at the end, including what happened to Power and Aki and Denji himself...

So unlike other, like all other, shonen protagonist, Denji has had the worst life you can imagine. He never went to school, he hasn't had a parent since he was like 7, he had to sell organs(those numbers were in yen. So 100,000 yen is like a few hundred dollars). He has never had any of the basic life necessities and he is young and going through puberty. If you catch all the way up in the manga, he is just now getting to the point at which all other protagonist start their adventure or journey on. It's really sad. And this is an absolutely brutal manga. Like, it's hopeful but depressing. Just don't get attached to anyone. The dog stuff isn't really a kink either. It's a very deep anima, and if you only skim things over, it's gonna catch you off later. You kinda have to really look at what is being said, the tone, emotion etc. Glad y'all are watching though. Enjoy.

He doesn´t have what we could call "trascendential motivations" bc he barely survirved day to day eating only bread. Yes, it can be quiet tedious having a main characters only thinking about boobs and women, but until now, he bottled other needs (bc of work and paying debts) and now he has the chance to let them flow, so now that he has the time to think about women, it is flowing rlly hard (also, remember that he is a teenager)

About the whole JJK stuff. The authors of JJK and Chainsaw Man are actually friends and take inspiration from each other. Fujimoto, the author of CSM even joked about CSM being a rip-off of JJK. So yeah, you can expect certain similarities.
I hate when youtube comments are like "OH MY GOD WAIT UNTIL EPISODE X IT'S GONNA BLOW YOUR MIND" and stuff like that, so all I'll say is : Yes there's more to it than Denji being down bad !
Yeah those people are the worst. They don't even realize that they spoil it by creating expectations. If you know that something exciting will happen, every plottwist loses the surprise aspect.
I feel like a lot of people just boil Denji down to being perverted. But you also have to remember he literally hasn't had a normal life. He was living in a small rundown shack, constantly in debt and eating small pieces of bread. No freedom, no happiness, just constant work. The reason why he reacts the way he does is because this is the first time in his life he can relax, eat good food and be normal. Sure, Makima still treats him like a dog, but at the very least, his doghouse got bigger. And Aki and Power seem nice enough.
Also only real human interactions were with Yakuza who were using him and also were being used by a devil. Like legit this dude don't know how to human and raging hormones of a teenager at the same time.

He's a pretty blank slate, but with puberty hormones in full. I don't think end of series Denji is as good as he is if he isn't immature and horny at the start

I think people's expectations are off and that is partially because people hyped up Denji when he has never been close to the most popular character in the series. He is an interesting character, but not who people actually like (he has never been voted higher than 4th on character polls). I view him as kind of a Thorfinn like character in that he enhances other characters through his simplicity, but has the opportunity to evolve as well.

Like you guys said, Denji's never had any of his basic human needs satisfied before, once he does satisfies some like food and shelter, he seeks affection that he relates to sexuality (which is another basic human need) because he never had any of it, he doesn't know/understands anything about human relationships or complex feelings... So in his naiveness, he can only think of boobs as his "ultimate goal". This "boobs" thing has more depth than it seems at first, and I promise you guys that there is definetly a whole more to learn about Denji and his goals/motivations as the story goes on. I can speak for all the manga readers when I say that you can expect a really wild and deep story, it won't be ultra popular if the only theme were boobs or sexuality.
as the last chapter of Part 1 ended back in 2020, it became one of my favorite mangas i've read, the story , the characters and the symbolism, Fujimoto writes characters that he became one of my favorite mangaka
Agreed - plus He’s also 16. At 16 I think this is something on most peoples minds lol. It’s a refreshing take on a Shonen protagonist’s goal. It’s not something as grand as save the world riddled by devils or whatever. It’s I wanna touch some boobs.

@@エル-d7e I share the same feeling. The way Fujimoto writes characters and how they are really realistic, how he entails themes and ties things up, and how he conveys emotions through paneling just made him one of my favorite mangakas.
Chainsaw Man (Part 1) doesn't have a single bad or boring chapter, the story gets progressively better, and the way things come to conclusion is chef's kiss. Those last 20 chapters are amazing, but the last 5 (93-97) is just pure CINEMA.

Denji is a teenager with hormones going wild AND with desperate need for human connections, so yes, sexuality plays a big part in the story, and his naivety is a reason for many plot points. It's not for comic relief, it's for character development and for major story related events to even happen.
Yeah, even if you are anime only like myself, it is easy to see this narrative set up. Everything about it makes sense. You gotta start somewhere simple, it was where we ALL started, the most simplistic bare bones motivations.

Denji is just going through Maslow's hierarchy of needs as he is actually living his life for the first time. That's the best way to explain his development. So you can now see how he will grow later.
If you wanna know where the story might be going or what kind of writing you can expect from Fujimoto, you can read one of his one shots online like "goodbye eri". It's godlike storytelling.
You can tell how nuanced an individuals thought process is by how easily they only see things on the surface. Yes the show and the mangaka in the manga presented the underlying "Denji lacks human connection" via "I want to touch boobs". However if you think about it that is pretty easy for a teenager to do, Denji doesn't truly grasp all the complexities of the human experience or how to connect with others or even that it is what he is truly desiring. So it is HUMAN to then grab on something that is CONNECTED to the thing you truly are search for before actually understanding the thing you are searching for. So yes, teenage boy that is stunted in maturity is going to first think "I want boobs" or "I want sex" or "I want a girlfriend" before they realize that what they really want is a sense of belonging and to connect with others.

I mean, the charisma of the show at the beginning is how grounded and human Denji's motivations are in this ridiculous world, it's refreshing to not see a protaginist with big aspirations, seems like y'all wanted the same thing we see on every shonen. Suffice it to say, the anime isn't just Denji after boobs, idk if I'll keep watching the reactions cuz your discussions and jujutsu comparisons aren't really doing it for me, but i hope y'all get to see why we love this story.
So since you guys seem confused, all the character animation in the past two episodes, besides a couple shots where Denji was Chainsaw Man last episode, are 2D. The reason it looks 3D is because of how fluid the motions are on the 2D drawings for the characters. The animators brought onto this show are legendary, and are what some would consider the "anime avengers." The quality should be this great throughout the next 10 episodes.
I mean literally the next episode is by freaking Tanaka with his Storyboards, Episode direction and Animation direction as well so yeah
I think theyre artifically increasing the framerate of the animations, since most animation studios have access to programs like that, part 5 of JoJo's made use of that program when Burno fought King Crimson for the 1st time and his punches looked super smooth

Denjis goal is pretty realistic and he literally has never had a normal life so the bare minimum is his dream. It would be more unrealistic if he just suddenly wanted to “be some The Greatest Devil Hunter in the World” or “want to Change the World.” The main characters goal doesn’t have to be out of this world. Most people in life have simple or more down to earth goals and for him it’s the same. He’s had a very bad life and has never received love besides maybe Pochita and has never received intimacy. He also never finished school and didn’t really have a social life, so he’s very naive and childlike in that sense. So he has a very superficial idea about love and easily falls for people who are somewhat nice to him because nobody before has been nice to him. So it makes perfect sense for him to have the basic goal of intimacy of just wanting to touch Boobs and also just Eat Bread with Jam. Anyways great reaction guys, can’t wait for you guys to continue watching this show.

Fair reminder that Denji is not your typical family gene pool formula of anime protagonist, he's starting out an average teenager. And it's a normal thing for every teenage men of peak puberty to have a basic needs and goals such as touching boobs. He's different from itadori in that he hasn't figured his purpose yet due to living in poverty and focused on just survival. For some people he's more relatable than most anime MC with big goals.

Without saying anything about the source material, it’s important for the author to develop and set a baseline personality so character development doesn’t feel rushed or forced and it comes of as genuine, realistic, and impactful.

I see some hates on the comments and I just want to say that even if I don't agree with some of the thoughts about Denji, I love your reactions and find it interesting to hear that point of view. CSM is one of those properties you just have to keep watching and know that it will deliver on the characters and story. I would view it as sort of like Jujutsu Kaisen in that you don't have the full scope of what can happen until after more about the world is explained.
Another way of thinking about it is that while CSM is loved by an incredibly diverse group of fans, they are not all given their dessert at the same time, and in terms of story, CSM takes a bit to get going.
I only say this because the manga too had plenty of people giving up on it in the opening chapters because they were looking for something that had not yet developed. I have yet to meet someone who went back and finished the series who has regretted doing so.

Very interesting detail with a painting on the wall in Makima's office 6:28. It’s also appears in opening in the first second behind Denji. This picture is from “The Divine Comedy” by Dante Alighieri, it is attributed to the moment “The spirit of Navarre chose well his time, Planted his feet on land, and at one leap Escaping disappointed their resolve” (since I have this book in my home library, then I checked it myself, but I have it in Russian, and I took the translation from the electronic English version, there may be translation flaws, so sorry if something is wrong). So, the bottom line is that, like the spirit of Navarre, Danji decides to "jump" into this new life in order to avoid the "execution", just like Navarro's father ruined the entire estate, leaving it to his son, whom the baron then took as his slave, and later the king too, in the service of which the son indulged in passion, also and Denji’s father leaved him with big debt, Makima took him like a dog and he now have lustful dreams, because he can think about something other, instead only how to survive). He leaves the past terrible life, in a happier one (in his opinion). HOWEVER, later in the book, a demon (presumably someone in the future) set off after him to got him back, but did not have time. Very chic Fujimoto's work on the details! And in the end, I would also like to say that despite how pretty Makima is shown, something terrible, terrible is felt in her ... they perfectly conveyed the atmosphere and aura of the character, very interesting to know more about her. I’m translated this based on my own knowledge of English, so there are may be mistakes, sorry for them😅

The trio thing is interesting. The way I put it together is the altruistic hero, the serious rival, and GIRL.
And I think CSM subverts those tropes. Our altruistic hero just wants to live a comfortable life and not save the world, our serious rival is more like an older brother/ parent, and our GIRL (Power) isn’t trying to be cheery or please the main character.
Makima kinda fits in the boss/teacher role to keep everybody in check.

2:15 This actually isn't 3D. I mean, it does look like it, but that's because it's just so well animated. It's not an actual CG model of Denji there. Also, Chainsaw Man's story gets way WAY better as it progresses and to be honest a lot of these earlier parts become extra impactful once you have the full context of the story. There is a reason behind Denji being horny as well, as awkward as it starts out. And it'll get a lot better

Waiting until they get to the meat of the story to realize Chainsaw Man is so much better than JJK. Coming from someone who's following both mangas, Chainsaw has so much more to offer. Fujimoto's storytelling is just something above.
I mean I wouldn't say that is so much better that is a stretch i think both are somewhat relative and have strong points and weak points. and both are more modern manga that have fast pacing they are similair in that and and are somewhat dark with chainsaw man being a bit darker I would say. But yeah chainsaw man is a good manga with a somewhat interesting story despite being weird, it has weird aspects but if you can look past that or you are used to that stuff in anime you obviously will like it. What I will say is that chainsaw man for how wacky it is and how it is written it does stand out from the other battle shonen.

I also think the story suffers from shitty pacing, bizarre decisions, broken expectations in weird timings, generic tropes, bland dialogue (seriously, characters are always explaining what they just did and what they are about to do; take this in contrast with Fujimoto who is a master of the "show, don't tell" and said in a recent interview that he tries to keep text to a minimum). I like the worldbuilding, the characters, but the exposition is so much... explanation of techniques, of new characters, why this dude that just appeared is a badass because he is from this clan of badasses. I'm really not a fan of the storytelling, of the writing.
I started reading both almost at the same time and ofttimes I struggled with JJK, while I devoured CSM.

I say chainsaw man is even faster paced then jujutsu kaisen if anything like compare the 96 of part 1 chapters of chainsaw man and jujutsu kaisen and you find that chainsaw man has gone completely haywire throughout the entire manga... So I kinda disagree on that one chainsaw man is just as chaotic fast with a lot bizarre stuff happening and random stuff that don't get explained and show and don't tell has it's flaws it doesn't work for everything.. Some gross even. I can't comment on any broken expectations or timings you have. But when it comes to generic tropes i don't think JJK is really that generic also generic doesn't really matter the execution matters. Chainsaw man while unique I will admit it is more unique then JJK it definitely has it's own generic tropes.
Aki is very much a trope character, but that doesn't really matter because he is executed well same thing goes for most stuff in JJK. Jujutsu kaisen is more generic in the fact that it is is a power system fighting manga chainsaw man doesn't really have a set power system that everyone has so it doesn't need the same amount of explanation because devils are all different in chainsaw man. It's not a verse made around cursed energy or nen or whatever the fuck.
Also jujutsu kaisen has a lot of things that need to be told to be honest the powers are very diverse it's kinda important in chainsaw man show and don't tell and works because stuff is very simple for example you don't have to explain what a chainsaw man can do it's pretty self explanatory. Just like how it's not hard to tell what a blood devil may be capable of you can make it complex but it's not needed.

while show don't tell can be great in many times just like telling too much it also is a flaw. I think in that aspect jujutsu kaisen is more digestible for you to understand despite some of it's complexity's.
I feel like chainsaw man with it's chaotic pacing even more so then JJK and the speed of conflict and the devil stuff I think chainsaw man takes a bit longer to digest. Like I can remember jujutsu kaisen of my head way easier then chainsaw man chainsaw man feels like it may need at least a second reread for a good digesting of the story not that it is a bad thing.

I think you guys aren’t grasping what exactly Power is. She’s not the case of Denji who’s a perfect Devil/human hybrid. She’s a corpse, who is being possessed by a Devil. The girl we’re seeing probably died months ago, and all that’s left of a Devil using her body to move and talk, like the bugs in Men in Black
And most importantly, Fiends, are known by everybody. To the point that it’s even taught in SCHOOLS. Because they are that dangerous as they are devils hiding in human form. That’s why she needs to stay out of sight.

But at the same time, I understand that Sam's not that very familiar with anime in general, I do admit that I struggled myself when first started watching animes after AOT, because of it's realistic take on the events, other animes felt stupid to me, cause I expected in a world with devils/curses, the characters should be scared.. But I can tell that both Jujutsu Kaisen and CSM are trying to balance that through comedy and goofy stuff. At the very least to me since I'm an anime only, even JJK's goofy moments were for a reason(Yuji fought a doll, to show the principal's cursed technique and to say to each has its own technique, it also helped Yuji steeling his resolve if he chose to be a jujutsu sorcerer..), I think since CSM's author is close with Akutami(JJK's mangaka),I'm pretty sure that there will be more to Denji than just that..
Ah complaining about something that makes complete narrative sense if you use even just 2 brain cells for more a single second to ponder on Denji as a character and what you know about him and this world thus far. Gotta love when people don't understand basic narrative things.
I'm with Will. JJK does have some stupid things but the whole premise is stopping an immensely powerful evil entity from awakening and taking over the whole world from episode 1. And it has pretty mature and dark stuff going on sometimes besides the goofiness. It's very different. Now, we are just in episode 2 of this anime. I agree with Will that it would get boring if it's always only about boobs but I'm sure it will get more complex. People praise it and I'm confident there are more reasons than 2 for it 🤣. They still have plenty of room to add nuance to the plot and characters. I'm faithful.

Yes denji is funny and pervy but chainsaw man is a very dark show I think it's probably the darkest shonen manga currently fujimoto gets away with a lot of gore, i was thinking about jujutsu kaisen but i say that is more chaotic and more murder happy then jujutsu kaisen. So I would say it is a few inches darker then jujutsu kaisen.
Also when it comes silly premises about characters don't forget that todo beat up megumin just because he didn't like his answer on what type of girl he liked. But I love my boy todo tho but yeah.

I like the main character of chainsaw man more than jjk. The main character of jjk is very faint compared to other characters. Denj's purpose he is very serious about it and not like a pervert, he just wants what is within his reach.

Premise of the show ≠ Motivation of the main character, I would say not at all
So unlike other, like all other, shonen protagonist, Denji has had the worst life you can imagine. He never went to school, he hasn't had a parent since he was like 7, he had to sell organs(those numbers were in yen. So 100,000 yen is like a few hundred dollars). He has never had any of the basic life necessities and he is young and going through puberty. If you catch all the way up in the manga, he is just now getting to the point at which all other protagonist start their adventure or journey on. It's really sad. And this is an absolutely brutal manga.
Like, it's hopeful but depressing. Just don't get attached to anyone. The dog stuff isn't really a kink either. It's a very deep anima, and if you only skim things over, it's gonna catch you off later. You kinda have to really look at what is being said, the tone, emotion etc.

He doesn´t have what we could call "trascendential motivations" bc he barely survirved day to day eating only bread. Yes, it can be quiet tedious having a main characters only thinking about boobs and women, but until now, he bottled other needs (bc of work and paying debts) and now he has the chance to let them flow, so now that he has the time to think about women, it is flowing rlly hard (also, remember that he is a teenager)

Cause watching these reactions with him being a man baby about a teenage boy who never got to properly mature or develop as a human being a fucking teenage boy is annoying AF and is making watching this unbearable.
