Himeno wasn't affected by the Gun Devil, at least not directly. Those graves are allegedly all devil hunters who have died on the job, that's why there was so many in one place. Aki is Himeno's 6th partner.

Aki was explicitly affected because the actual Gun Devil itself really did kill his whole family in front of him. Denji was implicitly affected because he has to fight devils on the streets, and all devils were made stronger due to the actions of the Gun Devil. That's all OP is saying. Neither of you is right nor wrong, you're both just looking at it through different lenses.

Imo, you dont even have to be in love. Getting three touches because of a deal is just like transaction and it is so limited, you barely get to register it in your mind. Being able to hold that person and get all the touches that you need feels infinitely better, especially knowing that you are actually wanted there. You dont necessarily need to understand each other all that well to enjoy that phyiscal aspect. But love makes it feel even better than that, that's true.
Foreplay and setting the mood are important. That is basically the difference between the two scenarios.

It was cut for time. The scene in the anime was only like 30-40 seconds. Text would've been jarring and out of place and narration would've taken longer to sell it.

the thing with the ending change is because after the studio dropped the 1st trailer in 2021 and it had so much views like 10M+ in less than a week and trust me that's a lot for a brand new anime (jjk only had 2M+) So a lot of music labels contacted mappa because they wanted their artist do music for the show so the director suggested to have different ending for each episode and it turned out this way and also it benefits the show popularity so much like all the artists are quite popular in japan so their fans will be watching the show (it's a win win)

It's not uncommon for these things to happen in anime, but it is common for people to spoil certain information because it didn't happen in the same order as it did in the manga (like with Goblin Slayer).

One thing I love about this series, is the monster design. Fujimoto can really craft some creepy and disturbed monsters.

Himeno gave up her right eyeball for the right arm of a ghost. I don't see any reason why she would have a limit to use it. It's just the right arm and nothing more. I think it makes sense she can just use it whenever since she has no right eye anymore. It's a fair trade imo

A lot of people think the terrorist attack is 9/11, which isn't technically true. The terrorist attack happened in 1984 in the show.
However it is very similar in a symbolic sense, and borrows some imagery. The way the whole world watched on TV, and the horror and fear that spread globally as a result. Showing the level of fear that led to the birth of the gun devil
yeah it's not LITERALLY 9/11 but it does borrow the symbolism and narrative of what 9/11 brought and how it affecteed the world.
Just, in this case, the 9/11 analogue brought upon the world a powerful, deadly devil.

I like how Denji does the typical shounen protagonist thing of spouting how sex is only meant to be with the person you love, only to immediately give in to a tempting offer in the moment.
The thing about the bullets and aki's house is something being discussed right now. Some poeple say that aki's house was probably destroyed by a bullet shockwave, so that got me thinking : Who the hell was the unlucky soul to get hit by THAT bullet?
I think people speculating that it's from a shockwave instead of some sort of bullet mean a SONIC shock, like a sonic boom from the Devil passing by at such massive speeds, rather than from a bullet.

But I agree, these episodes go by VERY fast, it's wild. This episode actually made me want to go read the manga, but I'm holding off still. When the season ends, though, I'll probably have to read it
so abotu the gun devil: it ONLY ever did the ONE attack 13 years ago. What wasn't mentioned in the anime but was mentioned in the manga was THIS: The gun devil traveled throughout the ENTIRE world within 5 minutes, and in thse five minutes attacked SEVERAL countriesincluding america, hawaii, japan, china and russia among others. Each seprate attack took at least less than 1 second (I think one example was like .45 seconds or something?) and the longest taking like 2 seconds. One of thos attacks hit Japan, killing Aki's family (and MANY others). I forget the exact death toll but Japans was in the THOUSANDS.WITHN ONLY A COUPLE SECONDS AT MOST.
So yeah that's not 1.2 million in america. Thats 1.2 million WORLDWIDE. IN FIVE MNUTES. AND THIS IS ONE DEVIL.
THIS IS WHY DEVIL HUNTERS EXIST AND WHY THEY TAKE CONTRACTS WITH OTHER DEVILS JUST TO STAND A CHANCE.
THIS THING IS OUR APPARENT MAIN ANTAGONIST.
And to clarify, no Himeno wasn't affected by the Gun Devil, as far as I can tell.. Aki was clearly much older there in the flashback. However, she's been in the devil hunting game a long time and has had six partners prior to Aki in said career, and eahc one died on the job. (so no, most likely none of them were killed by the gun devil unless Himeno was working as a devil hunter 13 years ago, which feels unlikely). That grave site is likelyeither jsut a general grave site, or one housing devil hunters specifically, there is no inbetween.

I really enjoy seeing the different reactions from guys and gals on Denji's motivations, with guys usually instantly understanding and comiserating and gals usually taking some getting used to lol But it's cool seeing you laugh more now and the undertones really getting through more over time, like all the "I got what I wanted so what now?" type of thing

I’m still pretty sure this takes place in the 90s due to the Japanese companies, cars, and magazines used.
I think the Gun Devil attack might be based on a real-life story that happened to a Japanese exchange student that was going to a Halloween party (in the early 90s, I believe). He went to the wrong address, thinking he was going to a Halloween party. He wasn’t fluent in English and the person at the house he went to got a gun and told him to freeze… he didn’t comply and the man shot him dead. Since then, Japan has always been wary of gun violence in America.
I’m glad you guys picked up the fact that Denji is a teenager and makima an adult in this situation
Not only that but Denji is a stunted teenager due to not having a stable environment in those formative years thus why his dreams aren't very refined and his social norms aren't very normal

The terrorist attack probably wasn't 9/11. It was described as a terrorist attack involving guns. There were no guns used in 9/11.
The gun devil's attack that killed Aki's family was not the event that hurt the other devil hunter at the cemetery. That was several years later after Aki went through training.
The pieces of the gun devil are torn off when it moves due to the fact that it moves so fast.
The age of consent in Japan is 16. Like it or not, Makima isn't doing anything illegal by the standards of Japanese law.
Also, grooming is a different thing than just exchanging sexual favors for labor. So what Makima is really doing is just plain, old fashioned, prostitution.

I'm not quite sure what you expect Denji's life to be? He has no opinions. If Makima didn't come a long he would probably be hunted to death as a demon. I'm not sure where your mistrust is coming from. So far she has told no lie from what we know.
Their mistrust comes from experience. Makima has been openly treating him like a dog. Telling him to do something for a treat. As we and Makima sees, Denji had been in a leash in such a long time, making him ignorant to things such as seeing the depth of someone's care, making him way more vulnerable to manipulation; just as Makima does. Aside from Makima's restrictions and the discipline that she shows as their kind of like supervisor, she's been acting like it as if she has a bigger goal. That "deal" she's offered to Denji this episode's already a big ahh red flag. She's literally doing what people does to train dogs. She's constantly making deals with him, doesn't lie, and says and does what he wants to hear and feel. The red flag is that it's just too good to be true, saying all of it must have a price.
She told him he'd be put down if he disobeyed her.
The terrorist attack in America is definitely meant to evoke 9/11 in terms of imagery, but explicitly isn't 9/11 (note there's only one tower). It won't be overtly stated probably for a while, but the series does canonically take place in 1997, so 'thirteen years ago' would be 1984.
I think someone else also shared it, but a detail communicated as narration/text in the manga that I understand not necessarily making it in to the adaptation (Makima doesn't say it, and the show hasn't used and tonally wouldn't suit a narrator), but that I nonetheless still miss: the time the Gun Devil spent at nations across the globe and the local death tolls. It really builds the suspense and fear surrounding the Gun Devil (while still ominously not showing us even a glimpse of it!) and drives home the thematic tie to and commentary on gun violence in the real world.

Makima's manipulation skills are top notch.
Denji and Power's dynamic and friendship is one of the highlight of the series, they are both idiots that vibe in the same wavelength is amazing. It also helps that the both of them have an emotional connection already thanks to their pets
the scene between makima and denji is peak in all sense, you can feel everything, the music , direction , the way the hands move, the looks are very well done , just perfect truly conveys everything that happens there, also makima seiyuu was perfect there , his tone of voice and the way she speaks transmits too much
regardless of what makima intentions may be, I am talking about what the scene achieves, not how she is as a character, which is quite interesting, She knows how to keep him busy and motivated as well as teach him how to pursue something he wants ... she understands everything that goes on around her. Makima doesn't hide the fact that she manipulates denji, on the contrary she knows how to play with things in her favor which we see a lot in real life , I give you something you want, but you have to do something for me.

I thought his disappointment was less "I got tricked by pads" and more realizing he's just squeezing random lumps of fat. He even says it himself that his grand goal want what he hyped it up since all he's squeezing is the fat lumps of a crazy girl who tried to kill him and doesn't flush or bathe.

If you lose an eye you also lose your depth perception, so you wouldn't be able to tell how far away things are, which makes it near impossible to catch things and really hard to drive safely.
Also, I think Aki only had to sacrifice some skin to his devil because, since he summons it's head to bite things, he is also feeding it every time he uses it. So from the devils point of view, he got a small down payment, but payments continue on a per use basis. Himeno is using the ghost's arm as a tool though, with no return for the ghost devil, and so it took payment in full, up front for the contract, and so it was a much higher price.

Gun devil attacked different places for about 5 mins. in total. Spending seconds on different countries, moving places so fast it drops some of its parts
There have been a lot of terror attacks in the US besides 9/11. Heck the WTC had been attacked before that. In the 90s the US had quite a few attacks across the country, some mass shootings, others bombings. The show is referencing these attacks in general coupled with the high gun deaths, using the lens of stopping a bad devil by a good guy with a gun as the motivating factor across the world for broader gun use. Even with that though the US had the most violence so it was hit hardest by the Gun Devil. Someone else in the comments will undoubtedly post the details of the GD attack so I'll save myself the trouble.
