John really uses SNL hosting gigs to let out his inner broadway kid
And do sketches that he might not have been able to do back when he was a writer.
Canais Young He's mentioned this once or twice in Interviews-
He and Some friends wrote and loved the idea for this years ago, but it fell flat at the writers meeting.
He said he was thrilled in hindsight because now he could throw so much more effort at it!
I love the Bodega man. It reminds me of living in Brooklyn and having that damn bodega cat purring against my leg while waiting for my ham and cheese hero!
Okay, it’s official. I’m in love with John Mulaney.

The only thing funnier than a person breaking character and laughing is when everyone around them is dead serious.
Agree to disagree. At this point, breaking character has become so expected and popular that it's pretty inconceivable to think that it's authentic half the time. Or maybe even most of the time. I don't find that comedians pretending they can't keep themselves from laughing when they're supposed to be doing a skit is very funny or original. It's tired and way overused.

The one thing I've learned from this video is that Pete Davidson can be convinced to do anything as long as there is a large ensemble of bizzare characters to sing altered versions of copyrighted songs to convince him to do it!

Thank you so much, you're a saint! I've only seen five musicals so far, so I only knew roughly half of these songs. I'll be honest, I'm mostly here for Cecily Strong. She's just got such a lovely singing voice to me. I totally vibe with her timbre. I hope there'll be another skit like these some day. I'm eagerly awaiting Dance of the Vampires.

Besides Hamilton, Les Miserable is my favorite play so I would agree.
I realized what I had gotten into seconds after I started playing this, and saw it was almost 20 minutes long. I reached to turn it off. I never made it. I watched the whole thing. I regret nothing.

I've been watching SNL since the 80s, and as much as modern SNL pails to the 90s and 80s I have to say this may be the best series of sketches in the shows history lol
I agree! These John Mulaney sketches are brilliant! Do you ever watch the earliest SNL shows from the 70's? They certainly weren't as slick and well-produced as the later ones, but Gilda Radner, Bill Murray, John Belushi, and the rest were very funny. Gilda was my favorite! I drove my Mom crazy doing my terrible Rosanna Danna impression. Actually, since I couldn't come close to Gilda's awesomeness, I would say I was Suzanna Rosanna Danna... her cousin from Texas and went in a somewhat different direction. My friends were kind enough to laugh at my jokes, bless 'em!

I never noticed the French flag they're waving is a diner menu. That's brilliant.
The thing with trad NYC diners is that there's about 1000 things on the menu. Obviously it's all frozen and waiting for years to be thawed and cooked somehow and slapped on a plate.
I love that all the musical theater people love these, but John Mulaney never actually did musical theater as a kid. I feel like it's one of those things he appreciated but he would never want his life to revolve around it. Yet somehow this is better than so much crap that makes it on stage.
