  • Join Chris Morocco back in his home kitchen as he makes weeknight meatballs. We stripped meatballs down to the most essential elements, creating a recipe that is easy enough for a postwork dinner. Making larger meatballs means they actually have time to properly brown in the oven without overcooking.

Yeah but many of the white superior staff played a huge role in the disparities happening at ba both in the test kitchen and on the videos including pay and overall treatment. Chris’s silence (and later brad’s) have spoken volumes about their priorities. As a former fan I’m so so disappointed in Chris’s lack of solidarity and active role in glossing over ba’s unfair treatment of bipoc employees.

    • @rknl7083
      @rknl7083 3 роки тому +3

@@laurengottlieb6354 I do have to agree with this tho, compared to the other cast members, they were relatively silent. Both have actually spoken out, Chris said more than Brad did (which was disappointing because it was lack-luster), not that it made it any better. I do, in a way, understand their reason for staying on video, they do have young children and video appearance is added income for both. Understanding their possible reasons for staying doesn't mean I'm not disappointed. I'm just pointing out that the ultimate culprit for the oppression at BA and Conde Nast is top management. They are the ones who can change the system and if they don't, nothing will happen. Let's just hope that despite this, Chris and everyone else continues to fight for change.

I'm not optimistic. A lot of the creative force behind both the ideas and styles of the videos many of us liked are gone now, and the creative momentum they had earlier in the year is mostly gone now. Priya, Sohla, Rick (and possibly some others) will not appear in videos anymore. Claire has entirely left BA for good. Hunzi as well, and he was a major driver of the zany fun style of lots of videos, and of course often the actual editor.
In this video alone you can tell the energy and spirit of the previous videos is almost entirely gone. Chris, Carla, Molly, and the few others who are left can't carry it all alone.
BA failed completely to address this issue the right way. Nothing that we saw on screen was problematic, except maybe Adam. Their correct recourse should have been to transparently address the inequities in pay/seniority/whatever needed to be done behind the scenes, and preserve everything onscreen exactly as it was.

Well great that you want to educate yourself. I respect that.
The thing with racism against black people specifically is that it’s a construct of white people, created around the 17th and 18th century, where the white people decided they are of more value, so they could enslave people of darker skintones.
That thought is still present. The ideal beauty standard is someone with light skin, blue eyes, blonde hair. Anything different and you‘re automatically less than.
Of course there are the big things, that are not acceptable anymore, but racism itself is more than calling someone any racial slur.
In BAs case they paid people of different races less. So you have white privilege: white creators got paid more, not because of there experience, but solely because of there „marketable“ white skin, names etc.
Then you have microaggressions. For example me getting asked, is I can’t marry a white dude, because people are too lazy to learn how to pronounce my name. All wrapped in a joke, but still hurtful.
All in all it is a system which degrades, undermines and hurts people who point blank just look different.
So I want to ask you: what is good about it?

Hiring someone overqualified who wants to leverage into a higher position is a problem. While you have another great person on staff you have an additional person on payroll and an essential role left empty. Sohla accepted the position and wage initially, was unhappy with the increases offered her, and when she didn’t receive the wages she felt she was worth... she left. Perfectly acceptable, it’s just business.

It's truly crazy to me that companies that are forced to diversity hire instead of allowing it to naturally occur are the ones getting the flack for it now. Go woke, go broke!

I thought the same thing. I would be covered in tomato sauce splatters, plus the stove top, and you would be finding red tomato sauce spots all over that hat beautiful white test kitchen for days / weeks.

IMAGINE hating on chris in the slightest bro. the problem with BA was never the hosts. No one ever had a problem with chris or brad or claire because they weren't the ones underpaying POC. CNE and Rappo were the issue. Theyre using chris to try to hold onto the fanbase because hes among the few beloved original cast that stayed on(Him and Sohla were always my faves)

The rich white team members didn’t give a crap about the BIPOC staff until they went public with the discrimination. Up until then, Claire l, Chris, Brad etc were quite happy to take the huge amounts they were paid for each and every video. And even then, Chris was incredible lukewarm in standing up for his colleagues. No surprise he’s the first to take the dirty money. Screw them.

@@Zveebo ah yes, those millions of dollars they were taking for every 5 seconds they were on camera, which you know about because you’ve seen their paycheques and know what everyone was making... and of course all the white folks were omniscient to the point of knowing what everyone else was being paid too because wage is such a common thing to talk about...
Or maybe you’re just projecting the image you want them to have onto them because you don’t want to like them

Mad respect to both Chris and the fans. Man, I was scared how mean the comments might be but everyone is so supportive. BA-CN is still questionable but everyone else is stellar. I missed you, Chris! 😭

      A family and a paycheck.
I don't blame Chris and Brad for staying.
Molly and Andy have no kids, Claire seemed to be on the way out anyways. It's easier for them to leave. But not with a couple kids.
