Just bought a 150 so this is perfect. Id like to be able to connect this to the 120v power socket already in the back of the prado. No idea how o do that.also...no isolator? Or does the red arc battery charger have inbuilt these days?
Hey mate. Yer the redact BCD’s has an inbuilt isolator so no need to worry about that. As for the power out let in the back I’m not sure we’re that is powered from and therefore we’re you would need to connect to sorry.
So where is the blue wire connected to since you haven’t shown it and the Prado having a smart alternator.
shayne mckay hey mate, the Prado doesn’t have a variable voltage alternator. It has what’s called a temperature compensating alternator so the blue wire Isn’t required to be connected to ignition.
Didn’t you have to earth the second battery and the bcdc charger?
Hi billy, The second battery is earthed through the harness back to the main battery which is then connected to the vehicle body
How’s does the charger go being at the front. With rain and water as such.
Hi Ryan, We only use the Redarc unit in an under bonnet setup as they are waterproof and dust proof. They are a solid state electrical board with no moving parts and the whole circuit board is dipped in a water proof Gell coating. This is actually a bracket made by Redarc and its there preferred mounting location to keep the unit cool while driving. So you can still hit the outback dust and cross deep creek crossings. I recon you could do it yourself. Its fairly easy with a few youtube videos. Just did mine this weekend.
Did you have to move your air con piping? The way it is set up in mine means I cant fit the ARB battery mounting bracket in because the AC pipes are in the way.
Yer mate you do have to move them, the piranha dual battery tray gives you what you need and a small mounting bracket to relocate the aircon pipe.
Good information, if you have a gearbox oil cooler which mounts were the BCDC, what other brackets come with kit. If it's piggy backed on cooler it will block airflow. I've looked at a lot of kits all don't take into account other major items 4x4 people add. Most common, fuel pre-filter, catch can, trans cooler, diff breathers, not much real estate left.
What happens in heavy rain and river crossings over few years. Is there another spot with mounting brackets?
Bush magpie 33 hey mate. Your right there is an endless amount of modification you can choice form for you 4x4. If you already have something mounted in this location and can’t move it I wouldn’t recommend this kit. When someone come to us that has something in the location we want to use we would make up a custom kit using a universal bracket. So maybe it would be best to get a local auto elec to wire up a bcdc or if you know a spot that you can put it and you want to give us wiring loom lengths we can make a custom kit. Hope that helps.
Bush magpie 33 sorry I forgot to mention that the redarc is water and dust proof so still I’m to go through creek crossings ect. That is actually to location recommended for red to keep the unit cool.
What model is the prado you are working on? I have a 2011 prado 150 gx and will be installing my bcdc charger probably this weekend.
Not sure what the exact model of this one was mate it it’s a 3.0l diesel 150series Prado

Hi Andrew. 8 b&s cable would be a good option for the 25amp charger mate.
