Can you try playing the e minor with a Gb (second fret on high e string)and D (third fret on b string) ? I hear that once the bass starts. What do you think?
America (the band) were phenomenal = Unique and catchy-strumming patterns. Love the vocal harmonies. Some of the greatest songs ever written, were in the 70's.
Agreed. The Beach Boys have recorded with Gerry Beckley who happens to be an amazing musician, as is Dewey Bunell, they all wrote the songs they performed and they all had their own styles. Dewey Bunell songs (like this one) always had major 7ths and other extensions. And yes the harmonies were tight and beautiful
I heard statistics from a radio announcer that the 70’s had the greatest diversity of genres hit wise .. so much good music .. yes I agree and later 60’s Great music that is being rediscovered by millions … Thanks Marty
In my opinion, this is the first song you should learn on guitar. Its simplicity helps you get used to the basics, such as how to hold a guitar, how to properly strum, become adjusted to chords, etc. After mastery, you can start to move on to harder beginner challenges, like in my experience, Hurt by Johnny Cash (originally Nine Inch Nails). Just a friendly comment to help those still at the very beginning like me :)
It is the 1st song I learned but struggle with it sounding right. It is actually a 9 chord song rather than only one. For newbies that might be hearing the same. Was happy to see this added to your collection. Can you do Far Behind, Candlebox and Fade into You, Maddy Star pleeeeeeease!?
Marty's the only person to have been with me my whole guitar career. From first learning to intermediate, then from taking a long long break to coming back. OG fr
Thanks! Marty thanks so much for your lessons, I'm a third time trying adult beginner. Your videos and the positivity you imbue them with are really helping. Sending you appreciation and a couple of bucks from Ireland :)
@@Butchass6969 Marty works and makes people happy and satisfied, Marty made this guy happy and satisfied so he gave him money because of his work. What about you, what do you do to deserve money like this?
Nice video! This is the music that I was hearing as a child with two older siblings. America’s sounds always seem so vibrant and capable of affecting my emotional state - like it just takes you to another place and time - IMHO 👍🏻
The way you were playing it I was hearing a couple of notes that reminded me of a song called Spooky by The Atlanta Rhythm Section. I've always loved both these songs.
Holy smokes, Marty! You've got it all!! Every song I've looked to learn this week is on your channel, I can't believe it!! I am so sorry it took me so long to find your channel, if I had found your teachings years ago, I never would've stopped learning! Thank you so much for all the hard work, I've actually enjoyed practicing and learning chords and for the first time in my life I feel I'm beginning to understand!!🤯
Marty music, talented guy with even spreaded positive vibes in every single videos, full of energy and always there to teach them beginners! Thank you marty💪🏻
Literally first day learning how to play guitar and just learned EM A9 for this song. Long story short idk how y’all do it I feel like the bit of knowledge I got today is just a grain of sand in the guitarsphere
I just started learning to play this song, and while it is definitely one of the easiest to learn it still has that curve to it. At the time of writing this, I think I'm about 30 - 35% of the way through playing this song right. For context, I started playing guitar almost 3 months now (started the first week of October).
Classic song this is. it was one of the first songs i learned on guitar ,great beginner song though probably one of the easiest keep up the great work marty 🤟
I just started watching some of your tutorials and this was one of the songs that came to my mind to learn how to play, so it's so cool seeing that you just released this just days before.
Thank you Marty, great help in brightening up this song to make it more interesting, and easy too! You've helped me before, thank you. Steve (UK) (subscribed).
MARTY PLZ: Then Came the Last Days of May Blue Oyster Cult guitar tutorial!!! I can't find one anywhere and the licks are awesome. Love the channel, have learned so much over the years :)
Hi Marty. I love the stuff you’re putting out lately, but I did realize that your Sultans of Swing mini series doesn’t have a lesson for the lead guitar licks and arpeggios. Could you make that? It would be extraordinarily cool and will complete the series imo because you’ll know how to play every part of that song. It’s now my favorite song after picking up guitar.
An incredibly overwhelming amount of the greatest music came from the seventies, absolutely true.. 60's too.... And 90's for sure. 80s even carried some of the best, and the 2000's... but NOT the 2010's, and well see about the 20's
Marty have you ever done a lesson of a song called We are the people from empire of the sun, Its such a beautiful song and when ever i watch someone else teaching there not as amazing as you. Not sure if people request songs but this one would be a good one. Been watching you for 11 years now and have always succeeded with my guitar playing skills. (Also im trying to impress my girlfriend as she loves this song)
Hello Marty, It would be a massive help if you could make a tutorial on Wednesday Morning 3 AM by Paul Simon. It is a great song and I love your videos. Massive Thanks.
Too bad were not in the same neighborhood I've known the bass lines for this song for many years, actually since it came out in 1972. One of the first songs I learned on bass guitar.
I'm having a really hard time understanding the strumming pattern when it's just spoken verbally, I've tried turning on the captions to see it written out but I can't figure it out or when we change chords :,)

Last sentence is pure fact. The best songs are 60s - 70s
Unnecessary comma

You can also keep circling back to this song, learn slap strumming, triplets, embellishments, apply the rhythm to getting the horse trot.
You've tought this about 10 years ago.
This is how I've learned my first guitar song. 10 years ago!
Thank you!

Definitely one of the first songs I ever learned. A simple, yet very powerful song to show how intricate it is. Cheers as always Marty
