Marty I've been playing guitar my whole life and I can honestly say I wouldn't be anywhere near where I am now if it weren't for you. I've been watching your videos since 2010 (when you used to record in front of that red curtain!) and in that time youve helped me learn everything from beginner 4 chord songs to guitar solos that I still rock to this day. I really appreciate everything you've done and I just want to say thank you for being the best teacher on youtube

My grandma passed away when I was 7. I never knew that she played guitar until I saw the guitar in my mom's closet. My mom told me that it was my grandpas that killed himself when my mom was 6. There was only 1 song that my grandma knew how to playe, I never got to here her play but my mom did. This song was dust in the wind. I don't get to touch the guitar but I have my own so I am going to learn how to play this for my moms birthday or mothers day. I think that this song means a lot to my mom because it reminds her of her mom. Thank you for teaching me how to play this it really means a lot to my family. I'm hoping to get to play it on my my granpas guitar.

I used to play that song back when I took guitar class in high school and after all this time, had it memorized up to the point of the rest of the song. My Mom used to have me play it everytime one of her friends came over and I got burned out on it and had the finger picking down after all this time until the other day when I actually looked at what I was doing and then I lost it, so, thank you for showing it to me again. I want to see the rest of the song's notes so I will be able to play the entire song once again and my Mom will be surprised still after all of these years when I play it for her again. I never learned how to use a pick but did have my fingerpicking down. Now if I could learn how to use a pick like I want, I can learn the guitar again and this time play like I always wanted to.

Marty I have learned three songs with you so far. This is the fourth song. I don't ever comment on any UA-cam videos, I think mainly because I spent the last 35 years in the Technology industry, but I was compelled to comment. YOU ARE AWESOME!!! My son and daughters heard me playing Metallica "Nothing Else Matters" and gave me a big complement. I learned it all from your videos. I have been messing with these guitars since high school. I play on an Applause by Ovations and a Epiphone Dot Natural. I had a Fender Mustang 66 back in the day. Thank you Marty for being patient and just down to earth. Obviously came from my generation. Stay cool.

THANK YOU!!!! - just on a note, I got the picking and the melody, but I was totally off on the rhythm and even when I went as fast as I could it sounded like a total different thing. It was puzzling me! So, I dedicated my weekend to fix the rhythm and I was only able to do it by using the first few seconds of this video and setting the playback speed to 0.5 and then to 0.75 and playing along 100 times. I noticed my timing was way off by doing that and I was able to fix it! Now my intro sounds very close to the real thing, but my fingers are bleeding hahahah.. Great tip for whoever is learning and having trouble after getting the picking: Slow down the playback time and watch his fingers!

Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I have watched over a dozen videos on Travis picking, and you have been the first teacher that slowed it down so beautifully, that I could actually learn the method. I'm psyched to become a pro at it, like you! Rock on, brother, rock on! Many blessings to you and may your gift get stronger and more magnificent!

Man, heard this song recently and started reminiscing back to when it came out I was just out of high school and through the power of UA-cam found your channel on 6-5-22. Your patience, your voice and the style in which you present this tutorial had me picking up my dusty guitar in the corner, that my friend says a lot. Here’s to cramp callous fingers… again.

I owe most of my guitar playing ability to you so thanks Marty :) I appreciate you a lot from the UK.

Sorry, It was on the old pay site. It's pretty simple though. Play this same "Dust In The Wind" picking pattern on all 3 chords. Just fret a C7 chord at the nut and play the pattern 4 times. Then move the same shape up to a F7 play it 2 times. Back to C7 2 times. Then move the same shape up to an G7 play it once, back to F7 once, then back to C7 2 times. Then start over. It's a 12 barre blues holding one chord shape the whole time moving it up and down the neck always picking the exact same pattern. i believe this same picking pattern is also used on Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide".
