@@chiz7788 Thank you for your inquiry…it has caused me to think a little deeper about the words themselves and not just the feeling that the words produce. The song speaks of a journey…and the “first part” is through an arid , difficult environment where a dry riverbed makes him “sad to think it was dead” . A sense of things coming to an end, nature under stress…Then he lets the horse run free as the sea appears..an endless horizon, renewed possibilities…and the listener feels a sense of relief, freshness, hope. This discovery of the ocean after a rough transit thru harsh terrain is often associated with the West Coast of North America. It is symbolic of the great migration in NA…”go West, young man”….. It was 1972, my dad was 25, driving his ’67 GTO, the rumble of the engine carrying him through a world full of endless possibilities. He had all his life ahead of him-no thoughts yet of a family, no concerns about what time might bring-just the pure, unburdened joy of being young, alive, and free. I wasn’t born yet-he was still a decade away from meeting me in 1981, my sister in 1978-but I can close my eyes and almost feel myself hovering over him as he cruised those roads, the sun warming his face, the music filling the air, his heart beating with the confidence and invincibility that only youth can bring. Sitting in a small town in Sweden listening to this perfect masterpiece. July 2024, forcing ourselves outdoors to the balcony just watching the really clear night sky, with the purple touch to it. This to repeat to repeat.. Chills down my spine thinking about everything in life
I'm on an island near the big town in Sweden, sitting in a rattan chair while huddled in a blanket with a small laptop in my lap, and this playing in the background as i overlook the waves to a view of pretty city night lights in the distance.
Putting my 9 yr old daughter to bed on Father's Day Eve 2024 to this classic... when I'm gone, she'll have memories of her dad and this song (and plenty of others) to share with her own kids. One of THE coolest parts of beyond a dad... planting seeds in her unconscious for my grandkids ❤
I’m 67 and this is one of my most favorite songs. I finally got to see America in concert 2 years ago. Best music and best stage presence. I cried during this song. I was so happy to see them in person Singing it.
I remember driving home from my reservation and this song started playing when I got on the highway. Them beautiful michigan beaches and my lands, man. Made me grateful to be Indigenous. ❤
I was a little guy in mid 70s when this song was used by a small local Italian TV during their breaks. I fell in love then and still love it after (almost) 50 years
This song marked my life in college. I went to California in 1976 and the song was enjoying a revival on the radio. I associated it with travel, growth , and transition.
Playing this next week at my mums funeral she was 92 and sadly passed away from bowel cancer, I remember her singing this in the kitchen I was about 14 at the time God rest her soul bless her 😢
RIP to your mom brother, she is in a better place, no more suffering, no more pain. Bless her soul 🙏🏾 lost my mom last year to liver cancer... Keep your head up, sorry for your loss
Your story brings 😢 to me, a lovely song for your mom. I lost my mom 2.5 yrs ago to ♋️. She was a strong woman, never showed or let her pain stop her no matter what. She took care of my older brother now 49 since 1994 (car accident ). Now I take care of him FT, bathing washroom, feeding "everything " no communication, and my father also FT. I dread the day he goes as it will be a shit show. Stay 💪 my friend.
@@alastor8091 We're talking about the 70's here, and there werent any large scale conflicts in Europe at the time. The worst that comes to mind is the The Troubles in Ireland and some coup d'etat attempts in portugal and spain.
I remember a friend listening to this on the highway, he was singing to it blissfully then got pulled over by cops for a broken windshield which was broken by debris from Wayfarer mid air collision crash. He got too agitated since he was getting a citation then escalated the situation to the point where he got pepper sprayed.
Interestingly, I'd always listen to K-DST while flying in GTA SA, and this song was one of the best ones to just cruise through the sky to, same as in a car or on a bike through where ever I was travelling through. Heard this song in the bank today, made me search it now. Damn good track.
Exactly, this song conjures specific memories of flying through the desert to Las Venturas with the flying car cheat with noticeably shitty screen tearing or other graphic artifacts.
Totally love this song, it's haunting. Brings back many memories of long ago, those amazing friends, the music, the clothes! Wish we'd stayed in touch, miss them even today. Great band, mountains of talent. Wow, such times you can never imagine, or perhaps you do.
@garyhastings, hi! Yes, those were the days , the sing and dance we thought it’ll never end!!!! Best beautiful memories of an era that is unrepeatable. At least for us who lived through it. Great emotional times! I miss the seventies, I’m still stuck in it and will forever be!!!!!!!!
@@carmenkamberos1156 Hi Carmen, totally agree with your comment and thanks. I guess I just didn't think I would grow older and how these times are now mere history. At least we survived it.😎

My go to swing when upset lol I'm 68 also. Such wonderful songs back then. Thanks for commenting I am not alone in my memories when I listen. To certain. Songs. I avoided music due to such sadness at certain parts of life. The songs would ha e me crying
I've never been to the US, but this song brings forward an overwhelming sense of nostalgia over a memory I never even lived. I see myself sitting at a table in a dark brown-wooded saloon interior with a good cup of coffee, tomato soup and a slice of key lemon pie in front of me. What an incredible experience to have through music.
I always wondered why the horse had no name, since it was important for him to be able to remember his own name. Lol! If I had to guess, it would be that naming the horse would have Indicated ownership, and since he set it free, it was as free as he was.😊
This song makes me cry every time I hear it. It reminds me so much of my depression and the desert of isolation that came with it, at first it was comfortable being alone but then the pain sets in fast. After a while once you have the energy to “let your horse run free” and seek help, it’s like you have a brand new life. You see the world so differently.
Born in 1955...my blind childrens' bell choir performed this song in LAS VEGAS........ I just "tear-up" WITH MEMORIES of my "1960's MUSIC ERA"...... (MUSIC THERAPIST/LOYOLA)
It may seem strange, but although born and raised in a Mediterranean country, the sound of America and especially this song has added one defining dimension to the way I see the landscapes and the people I come across for the last 45 years. A timeless classic masterpiece composed by musicians with a rare gift for writing songs and poems. To me this is an anthem to the fabulous '70s. Thank you so much for this upload.

Lyrics On the first part of the journey I was looking at all the life There were plants and birds and rocks and things There was sand and hills and rings The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz And the sky with no clouds The heat was hot, and the ground was dry But the air was full of sound I've been through the desert On a horse with no name It felt good to be out of the rain In the desert, you can remember your name 'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain La, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la After two days in the desert sun My skin began to turn red After three days in the desert fun I was looking at a river bed And the story it told of a river that flowed Made me sad to think it was dead You see I've been through the desert On a horse with no name It felt good to be out of the rain In the desert, you can remember your name 'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain La, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la After nine days, I let the horse run free 'Cause the desert had turned to sea There were plants and birds and rocks and things There was sand and hills and rings The ocean is a desert with it's life underground And a perfect disguise above Under the cities lies a heart made of ground But the humans will give no love You see I've been through the desert On a horse with no name It felt good to be out of the rain In the desert, you can remember your name 'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain La, la, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la, la

In 1972 my mother and father hooked up and I was conceived . there was no relationship or commitment between the parents and I was subsequently sent on to be adopted. For those missing their dad, please listen to a song called Fade in/Fade out by Nothing More. Though new age, it’s timeless in its lyrics and composition and will resonate with any age group.
Peace be with all of you.
definitely a good tune in a GM ! America Built / Fisher Body / deLco remey not todays watered down garbage !
Thanks for the suggestion. I will check on that song. The way you described your great dad's life brings me pleasant memories, too. Thanks again!
Wow what a writer you are! I lost my dad in August 2022 he was 30 in 72. I was just born in 71. I can so picture my Dad young and healthy and free too. No thought of illness or death.
Sitting in a small town in Sweden listening to this perfect masterpiece. July 2024, forcing ourselves outdoors to the balcony just watching the really clear night sky, with the purple touch to it. This to repeat to repeat..
Chills down my spine thinking about everything in life
Fuck yes this gave me a huge smile
a purple touch...I saw that when I was on shrooms...beautiful night sky with a purple aura around the trees?
I'm on an island near the big town in Sweden, sitting in a rattan chair while huddled in a blanket with a small laptop in my lap, and this playing in the background as i overlook the waves to a view of pretty city night lights in the distance.
Putting my 9 yr old daughter to bed on Father's Day Eve 2024 to this classic... when I'm gone, she'll have memories of her dad and this song (and plenty of others) to share with her own kids. One of THE coolest parts of beyond a dad... planting seeds in her unconscious for my grandkids ❤
Man thats a beautiful thing....
Im just blessed to have two grandsons 2 and 3 will consciously now make that a little mission also
Thanks
Concurrency is key!
i love that
I’m 67 and this is one of my most favorite songs.
I fell in love then and still love it after (almost) 50 years
Un saluto da Trento
I love it and it inspires me when I am soloing on my guitar
Di che parte del paese sei? Saluti da Foggia!

One of the best things of having musical parents is that they share gems like these.
Proud to have my dad’s music taste. Music is such an important part of my life and he showed me that
This song marked my life in college. I went to California in 1976 and the song was enjoying a revival on the radio. I associated it with travel, growth , and transition.
It's been many decades and you've been through so much with that horse. Give him a frickin' name already.

Playing this next week at my mums funeral she was 92 and sadly passed away from bowel cancer, I remember her singing this in the kitchen I was about 14 at the time God rest her soul bless her 😢
My condolences
RIP to your mom brother, she is in a better place, no more suffering, no more pain. Bless her soul 🙏🏾 lost my mom last year to liver cancer...
Keep your head up, sorry for your loss
What a sweet memory 😢
Your story brings 😢 to me, a lovely song for your mom. I lost my mom 2.5 yrs ago to ♋️. She was a strong woman, never showed or let her pain stop her no matter what. She took care of my older brother now 49 since 1994 (car accident ). Now I take care of him FT, bathing washroom, feeding "everything " no communication, and my father also FT.
I dread the day he goes as it will be a shit show.
Stay 💪 my friend.
So sorry..May she Rest In Peace
Music from the 70's told the stories of life in a way that any generation could enjoy, they were really that well done.
This song takes me back to a good time in the 70s when life seemed to be more carefree, especially as a kid.
Even with all the wars and stuff?
ABSOLUTELY!
@@alastor8091 I don't remember there being any ongoing wars in the mainland U.S in the 70's... Or any first-world countries as a matter of fact.
@@stuff1044 the wars in Europe would give reason to not feel so safe just like they do now.
@@alastor8091 We're talking about the 70's here, and there werent any large scale conflicts in Europe at the time. The worst that comes to mind is the The Troubles in Ireland and some coup d'etat attempts in portugal and spain.
One of the greatest songs of all time
I remember a friend listening to this on the highway, he was singing to it blissfully then got pulled over by cops for a broken windshield which was broken by debris from Wayfarer mid air collision crash. He got too agitated since he was getting a citation then escalated the situation to the point where he got pepper sprayed.
Amen!!
Interestingly, I'd always listen to K-DST while flying in GTA SA, and this song was one of the best ones to just cruise through the sky to, same as in a car or on a bike through where ever I was travelling through. Heard this song in the bank today, made me search it now. Damn good track.
Lmao, I also listened to this while flying in GTA
Yes man, nothing like that old feeling.
Exactly, this song conjures specific memories of flying through the desert to Las Venturas with the flying car cheat with noticeably shitty screen tearing or other graphic artifacts.
oddly fitting visual as someone whose never played a gta game
Yes!!! That's exactly how this song exists in my mind. Just flying a car through endless fog.
It's the harmonies in this song that make it one of a kind. The melody is unforgettable...
Gerade weil sie so monoton und besonders ist, ist diese Melodie unvergesslich!!😮
Totally love this song, it's haunting. Brings back many memories of long ago, those amazing friends, the music, the clothes! Wish we'd stayed in touch, miss them even today. Great band, mountains of talent. Wow, such times you can never imagine, or perhaps you do.
For me, Kwajalein.
For me this song was playing in the arena while I was taking my first riding lessons on a horse . Well, it stuck for sure 30 years later 💜
At least we survived it.😎
I played this while driving through the Atacama Desert to San Pedro de Atacama. Best drive EVER
This past February I was driving my van through the Arizona desert with my little frenchie named Gracie....This song came on and I was overcome with a deeply peaceful feeling . I was on the road with my little buddy and just couldn't be any happier....Thanks America ....

Your so.lucky to have grown up in the good times when music and people were ❤
I've never been to the US, but this song brings forward an overwhelming sense of nostalgia over a memory I never even lived.
I see myself sitting at a table in a dark brown-wooded saloon interior with a good cup of coffee, tomato soup and a slice of key lemon pie in front of me. What an incredible experience to have through music.
Tis is very funny. My wife say mayb you are reliving a past life🙂

It's a song you can't get out of your head.
It has a good story
And a nice beat.
This song is just beneficial to listen to overall, puts you in a good mood
I love it
And vocal harmonies, and good session musicians. It would get even more amazing with time when they had George Martin as producer a few years later.
@@mustanggt35r44 I think it's more lethargic but it is somewhat calming, yes
I always wondered why the horse had no name, since it was important for him to be able to remember his own name. Lol! If I had to guess, it would be that naming the horse would have Indicated ownership, and since he set it free, it was as free as he was.😊
This song makes me cry every time I hear it. It reminds me so much of my depression and the desert of isolation that came with it, at first it was comfortable being alone but then the pain sets in fast. After a while once you have the energy to “let your horse run free” and seek help, it’s like you have a brand new life. You see the world so differently.

I am a Butler, and I feel the same way. Looking at how people, land, and culture meet, in a song, is fascinating. Gracias.!

You can feel when who composed a song is someone who really deserve all the attention he get or if it’s just temporary, they are musicians real ones and you can feel it even if u don’t know much about music
They were living in England at the time & were really missing sunshine.
The music is simple, the poetic is high level, and the message transcends generations.

Lyrics
On the first part of the journey
I was looking at all the life
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz
And the sky with no clouds
The heat was hot, and the ground was dry
But the air was full of sound
I've been through the desert
On a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert, you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
After two days in the desert sun
My skin began to turn red
After three days in the desert fun
I was looking at a river bed
And the story it told of a river that flowed
Made me sad to think it was dead
You see I've been through the desert
On a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert, you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
After nine days, I let the horse run free
'Cause the desert had turned to sea
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The ocean is a desert with it's life underground
And a perfect disguise above
Under the cities lies a heart made of ground
But the humans will give no love
You see I've been through the desert
On a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert, you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
This needs more likes
Thank you very much!
Now I can sing like Walt, thanks
💪🏽❤️💪🏽

In 1972 my mother and father hooked up and I was conceived . there was no relationship or commitment between the parents and I was subsequently sent on to be adopted.
