    Another worthwhile addition to the vent covers are the screens that can go into their vented openings. I’m talking about insect screens which you can either get from MaxxAir or DIY yourself by cutting and fitting some nylon screen material into the inside of the provided vent openings. This will drastically reduce the number of times that you have to remove the internal screen that is inside the RV and clean it. Also your wife doesn’t have to look up into the screen and see a bunch of dead bugs lying on it.

      Thank you! My GD screens never fit and i wondered what i could do about tiny critters. I learned in our airy cabin, a candle burning, i place inside a kettle, with all lights out will take care ot almost every annoying flying bug, especially mosquitoes. But younwant it very safe. Heat proof non slippery surface, inside a kettle in case the candle fails, and not where loose clothing could brush it, or pet. Right now in ths cabin, i put the old kettle on the cold wood stove. A range might work...

    I installed the same vent covers a few months ago . Although I do like the etrailer products, I do find them much more expensive than the others.

    It was a good video brother and a good suggestion I was up in Yosemite two weeks ago and left the bathroom vent open and had a thunderstorm come through got quite a bit of water in the RV I have them on my vents now and they work excellent.

    Just added a vent cover about a month ago. Super simple. 👍 My vent kept opening up on my, presumably from wind so we really needed them to be covered.

    A vent cover is on the upgrade list. Especially after an ice storm this winter froze our vent cover shut! Thanks for the video JD.

    When I'm on my roof, I don't face the sides. I make sure I'm facing the front or back, and I frequently look at the edge. I also try to move front or back- that way, I always have the edges in sight to know where I'm at. If I have to work at the very front or back, I face it so I can see the edge. It helps.

      Do you know, do you have to clean the slides if you have the toppers? I am trying to figure out how to deal with roof issues if i can't. Does that endy rving before it begins?

    I put vent covers on my trailer years ago and when I store my trailer I would always crack my vent so that I could keep the air circulating when not in use without worrying about rain or snow getting in the trailer

    This was the first mod I did on my fifth wheel. I love having the vents open when driving down the road on warm days. It does help keep the heat down.

    The first modification to ANY RV we've ever owned is putting on vent covers! I have seen many RVS going down the road with broken vent covers just waiting for rain and dirt to go right into the RV. I've always used the Camco covers, I think about $20 or $30 each.

  • @LordFalconsword
    @LordFalconsword 3 роки тому +2

    I didn't use the Maxair for one reason. My rig was already 13'3", and the Maxair are HUGE, putting them on would have actually raised my clearance height by nearly 2 inches. I went with the Campco instead, which were shorter, and much cheaper.

    Great video. I just installed 2 vent covers on my RV about a month ago. The ones that i went with were a bit cheaper. Aprox $40 each, but same mounting hardware. I had to replace my vent lid's first due to dry rot from the sun, and that's one reason i went with the covers. Protecting rain from coming in the RV is also another great reason.

  • @davemccracken3457

    Thanks for the info. I might get it for my vent that does not already have it. I had to replace that vent a few months ago due to a large (2 inch) hailstone. The cover would have protected it.

    Our 5th wheel was only a months old when we added Maxxair covers. We added them because the oem covers broke due to acorn damage. When adding vent covers, they can increase the overall trailer height depending on the vents location.

    Surefire way to prevent that muscle soreness you mentioned JD:

    These should really be standard on every RV, granted they're very quick to install and not particularly difficult to install either.
    Also the number of these i've seen installed backwards by rv owners driving down the road is ridiculous. Read. The. Directions. People. XD

    If you were buying a new RV and upgrading the cheap bathroom fan to a MaxxFan, would you choose a Maxxfan Plus with this Fanmate cover or get the Maxxfan Deluxe with the built in cover? That's what I am puzzling over.

  • @richardmain8059

    Great add on. Are they taller than your AC height, if so you’ll have to be mindful of the new height of your RV, even a inch or so versus a tree limb could be eventful.

    • @terryhaynes1596
      @terryhaynes1596 3 роки тому +1

      They are not taller than a standard ac. About the same as a low profile ac

    If you use these covers, could you keep the fans running and open while traveling to keep the trailer cool? To me, if that’s possible, that would be the best benefit. Cooler trailer when stopping for lunch and getting to the campsite.

    Would pop-rivets be an acceptable substitute for the self-tapping screws? Screws like that always seem to loosen with time and I suspect that vibration makes it worse.

    I've thoroughly enjoyed this series of videos 😁 about the solar installation/explanation JD.
    As y'all were demonstrating the vent covers, I happened to notice the skylight dome over the shower 🚿 stall. The one on our Voltage cracked (due to age I'm guessing) and was actually seeping through the dome. We ordered a replacement and had a dealership install it. They said it was supposed to be made from a more durable material and it was one of only two available in the USA.
    I'm wondering if y'all have any suggestions for a cover similar to the vent covers or if any of y'all's subscribers has dealt with the issue.
    Found the NRVTA UA-cam channel and checking out now.
    Keep up the awesome 😎 content brother. Giddy up.

    Can you use a vent cover if you have a rain sensing auto closing vent?

    • @joehayes10
      @joehayes10 3 роки тому +1

      Yes you can but it takes the rain sensing out of the equation and just makes it like other vents. With covers you can leave your vents open.
