A kid gets punished by a teacher....parent comes in screaming: "You can't do that! Thats my son/daughter." And on and on....
It's the parents (like the guy with the gun) that are to be feared.
I generally trust cops..I've seen them in action at schools....Ive seen them hold off irate parents that want to hit teachers, admin and students.....and I've seen them diffuse really bad entitled parent situations. I fully understand going there.
But unless you arrive before the Police, there really isn't much you can do but wait for the Police to resolve the matter.
Even if you arrive before the Police and go in, either armed or unarmed, you are putting yourself at risk of getting shot or caught in the crossfire.
You could also draw Police attention away from the real perpetrator and it could easily be confused that you are the, or one of the perpetrators, possibly causing more loss of life or injuries because of your interference and distraction to the Police.
Now, if there are only one or two cops on scene and you are armed and volunteer to go in with them, then they should let you team up with them and move in to neutralize the shooter, or at least pin him down until the cavalry arrives.
Look up the Texas clock bell tower sniper shooting in Austin, Texas in 1966.
University of Texas students with rifles shot at former U.S. Marine Charles Whitman from their dorm rooms, distracting him and pinning him down somewhat.
A civilian with military experience volunteered to go up into the tower with several Police Officers.
They were able to stop and kill Whitman, who was later, after sutopsy, found to have a tumor pressing on his brain.

@@winterfell9990 There are multiple officers. You don't need a whole squad to take a detained person and confirm if they are the gunman. Maybe two at most.
I never said to run in there with a gun. Plus, there are multiple teachers, aka ADULTS, in the school so an additional ADULT in the school wouldn't make a difference. They would all be treated the same and cleared.
You are also making up a situation in your mind. And, not a very accurate one. You are assuming a trigger happy person running into another trigger happy person. There would be communication and commands being called out. However, it would get confusing. As I said, I never said to run in there with a gun.
The commenter said nothing would stop him from getting it, which is probably true. You said they'd waste time on him. He never said he would run in there with a gun. He'd be treated no different than all the other ADULTS, aka teachers, that are in the facility.
They should have a tagging system. Where they can give them a colored band or something to wear to show that they have been cleared and allowed in if that were to be a system.
Also, typically, at a school the teachers have seen the parents before, and the kids of the parent would tell the teacher, "THAT IS MY DAD!" or "THAT IS MY MOM!". If they were able to get to their child.
