Evie and Maxine trace back their family history to Pompeii.
This video was specially created for #VolcanoDay, the worldwide tweetalong of the Doctor Who episode 'The Fires of Pompeii' on Sunday 17 May 2020.
Written by James Moran, featuring music by Murray Gold and starring Tracey Childs and Francesca Fowler, this video was home-produced remotely during the 'lockdown' period of the COVID-19 outbreak in May 2020.
All involved in the making of this video contributed their time and talent for free. If you enjoyed it, it would great if you could consider making a donation to The Film and TV Charity's COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund, to support the creative community which has been affected by the Coronavirus pandemic: justgiving.com...

Wouldn't it have been a hoot to see Capaldi playing the dad?
I was really hoping he'd show up.
“HOW DID I GET THIS FACE?”
John Frobisher from Torchwood: Children of Earth was the descendant. He later killed him and his family, as the universe needed to correct itself after the ending of Fires of Pompeii.
Ergo, these two do not have long to live.
@@Toby_Price not true.
Frobisher's children were both school girls. As this is an adult brother-sister pair, it must be a different branch of descendants.
JojoChampion me too.
This is power of "The Doctor's Theme". Normal casual videochat with some nostalgic bits of memories, and then you heard this theme in its simplest variation. And you immediately know what this mean, all story, all meanings, all memories.
The "household gods" are my favorite thing, because the 10th Doctor perfectly fits mythologically to being Hermes.
Hermes is a trickster, god of travel and thieves, but also of science and medicine.
"Music by Murray Gold"
Something I didn't think I'd see on a Doctor Who production anytime soon.
Two series on and he's still sorely missed.
Murray Gold is the GOAT.
Segun's a better composer.
Silhouetters you joking you mean worst
@@HARSA-gn1mp You can't be any better segun's done an amazing job he hasn't created any bad music it may be more atmospheric but he's still an amazing composer
Doctors running in the family is an understatement...
Omg the ending just got me, as if the Fires of Pompeii wasn’t enough
FACTS
If the Doctor has been watching over the family for that many generations, it's strange it took 12 so long to recognize his own face.
If it was 10 the whole time it makes sense. As 11 was around for AGES.
Regeneration trauma, at first. And then keep in mind that the Doctor knew a man named Caecilius and that was how he remembered that face: as that of a sculptor he once saved.
It could be 12 watching over them after remembering where he got his face from. Making sure they were alright and that he never forgets why he chose that face.
Oh I've missed Murray's music
Yes, the Doctors Theme gave me chills but doctor please stop creeping on this familys chats EDIT: WAIUT MURRAY CAME BACK TO DO THE MUSIC
Wait, music by MURRAY GOLD??!!! I never thought I'd see that on a new Doctor Who ever again.
Ok, now this is doctor who. A clip that is under 4 mins and it brings me straight back to the 10 era. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?!!! Amazing job on all of these, i love them.
you're a sad act nate go find delta yeah?
'Like a dream, but one we all share' That is a really beautiful describtion of the fans and the current tweetalongs: A shared dream connecting us.
This variation of The Doctor's theme is hauntingly beautiful. It really is one of the greatest pieces to come out of the show.
That Ten's theme sending chills to me
You give me the Doctor's Theme and I'm satisfied
Actually, it's Donna Noble, but she's kinda bovvered right now with this Scotsman...
Back to when the guest characters actually felt important and fleshed out. This is brilliant.
The alarm beep was the sound of drums (a time lord’s heart )
Yes and we must remember the Noble guardian angel ....
The moment Murray's music comes in it's like a whirlwind of emotions. Miss it, love it, what a show. Seriously hope Murray comes back to Doctor Who, or that we get some more orchestral music/separate themes, instead of general ambient noise with pop songs thrown in. Not terrible, but the music can add so much to a story and the subtext, so I hope they go back to making the most of that.
He is ;)))
This is such a sideways idea. The Family Caecilius' descendents in the present day. It's the epitome of "Why not? That'll be cool!" and I love it. Thanks Mr. Moran!
Even the fictional people are in Lockdown.😥
Image if COVID 19 was a fixed point in time in every universe. Even our own.
Even The Eighth Doctor, according to Big Finish!
Obviously, their "guardian angel" was busy during the Children of Earth event, as they didn't protect John Frobisher and his family.

David-Andrew Creed The Doctor can be incredibly condemning, sometimes. Remember THAT John Frobisher was high up in the civil service, not an architect, and ordered the death of everyone - including Captain Jack Harkness - connected to the 1965 deal with the 456. That probably disappointed the Doctor sufficiently (especially if they were still in their 10th incarnation) for them to not save him.
Who is John Frobisher?
@@leif1075 He's the character played by Peter Capaldi in Torchwood : Children of Earth
@@Pseudonymonic Who RTD suggested heavily was a descendent of Capaldi's character from Pompeii
I love the names of the files on her computer :-)
me too!
I love the twist at the end
Welcome home Murray Gold!
DW Lockdown needs to continue AFTER Lockdown, these videos are great! I’d donate to a Kickstarter to continue these in a heart beat.
Yesss! These make the Whoniverse feel like a lived-in setting.
I love how each clip you Male feels like it comes from the respective era, moffat or RTD. It’s amazing 🤣 this felt very RTD, but the Zygon once with a similar setting/ style felt Moffaty
Fitting, since tomorrow is Volcano Day in Washington State......40 Years ago!
Mt. saint helens mhm
Additional caller?
Can't be; could it? 😳
That nearly made me cry-
Yes it was. ⏰
So Additional Caller must have been the Doctor silently listening in.
That was a delight! Thanks so much!!
Murray Gold 😭😭😭❤️
Why is it everyone of these has to make me cry?! As of lockdown wasn't hard enough? Now I have to go change
Intriguing.
By the way I literally crapped myself when the beeper went off as I thought it was my fire alarm.
Not literally, I hope…
Murray's music starts at 2:16
Dang, doctor, watching them like the FBI xD - also god bless this channel. I'm loving all these videos!!!!
Aw this was a lovely throw back to see these cast members all these years on!
Omg these were brilliant
That was adorable thank you 😭
Good to see both of them again, and to hear Murray's music!
I had tears at the end of the episode and now THIS!! THANK YOU!!
This was so sweet! I loved it! Wonderful music!
Elenore, my grandmother, the War Nurse.... From Hampstead, England sends her regards through me...from Hampstead, North Carolina.

The dialogue here is so on-the-nose that I reckon the family know something or other about the Doctor. This is their careful test to see if their guardian will show themselves if provoked.
Also, the Doctor saved that family, but - and to me, this makes as much sense as anything ever could - in order to trick the timeline into not correcting itself, that family's direct line was restricted to having the same faces and general occupations, so long as they continue. As many details as possible stay the same. Frozen in time, just like the petrified citizens of Pompeii. Time, a fickle creature who enjoys a good metaphor, is satisfied - as far as It's concerned, these Romans haven't escaped their deadline at all - they're as much a squad of living statues as those angels who've just gotten out of the cellar of that old house...
M..m..Murray Gold? 😨😨
THIS SO GOOD UGH MY HEART 😩💖 I LOVE WHAT DOCTOR WHO LOCKDOWN IS DOING TO US WHOVIANS
RTD said once that the Frobisher family ended the line and sort of balanced the temporal scales but maybe there were always cousins
What a beautiful Video! Fires of Pompeii will never be forgotten!
that theme gives chills every time
Tearing up a little 😭😭😭
I’d like to think that the addition person is 10 before he regenerates
Murray Gold?! Plz come back!!!
This is AMAZING! FANTASTIC! Thanks for thaaat💖😍
Love the Doctor Who Lockdowns, perhaps River Song could be in one?
Love the van Gogh behind the mum
LOL. Who was the addional caller that just eavesdrop on their convos without them even knowing?
The Doctor, that much should be obvious
Probably the daily mail knowing them.
If that was honestly NEW albeit a rearrangement of golds music is was pretty damn good
So well done! The ending made me giggle and then brought tears to my eyes.
That “additional caller has left chat” got me so gooooodddddd
The Doctor was the additional caller!
_"Writers are prophets!"_ writes the writer.
Just watched it. Great job, well done.
I always miss the watch along, but at least I can always see these bits.
I was seriously thinking about them making a video to do with the descendants of Pompeii about three days ago. I didn't expect to see this one coming. It's coincidental, kind of spooky. 😂
Brilliant! Thank you.
MURRAY GOLD I LOVE YOU
Quinn of course is Quintus. And did anyone notice Evie's little avatar in the upper right corner of her desktop? Kind of looks like an exploding mountain.
I love this worldbuilding aspect!
I know the implications is that the additional caller is the doctor... but even then the actual horror if someone is there just watching it all.....
oh gosh, the ending got me. my heart skipped a little.
'Additional caller has left video chat' like doctor stop spying- that did nearly make me cry though.
So beautiful.
Additional caller 😍
Murray is back!!! 🥹🥰
The Doctor totally joined this Skype call.......
Lockdown is the gift that keeps on giving
I’d never thought that I’d see Murray Gold’s name on Doctor Who again. It’s nice.
"Additional caller has left video chat" - i'm in tears right now :D
I feel like they need to appear on a future episode with a current Doctor. I feel we need more to this episode.
I was waiting for the tardis vwoorp to arrive or some sort of shadow but the end 🤯
Lovely, just lovely x
This was perfect
Amazing! ❤ Wonder who the additional caller was? 10? 11? 12? 13??
probably 13 since the bbc want to use her in every goddamn story, but it could be 10 because he did say he checked in with everyone before he regenerated.
@@Theskymaster210 She's the current Doctor, like it or not but it worked like that with every Doctors. The current one is always the most represented. But I think we are free to interpret the end of this video our own way, we can imagine any Doctor from 10 to 13 doing this.
@@jujublue4426 I'd say its either 10 or 12, as the Doctors with direct ties to The Fires of Pompeii
Tracy Childs! I love her in Big Finish!
I like to think he checked in on them from time to time as a way to remember and honor Donna
I think the Archangel Islington looks like Frobisher, 'ooo looks like Daddy, 'oo looks Ike....
Nice one, James.
Brilliant. Thanks for these.
Loved that.
Yes!!!!! Fantastic!!!!
Omg I want to see additional caller too!!!
loved it
1:23 doesn't that technically mean each sibling in the family married each other and gave birth?
Probably distant cousins, but yeah.
My brain isn't working. I'm struggling to work it out for some reason 😂🤦♂️
Oh.
So these guys are potentially distant cousins of John Frobisher and his family?
Not as far as I'm concerned. Although, given the two millennia that have passed, Caecilius and his family now have thousands of descendants.
I did the math, at least to 20 generations. Assuming his two children each had 2 kids survive to adulthood, and those children likewise produced two each, there would be well over FOUR MILLION descendants. At 20 generations.
Lovely 💕
The Doctor didn't check on John Frobisher though... 😶 👪🔫
That Wild Thing!
This was so good!!!
...anyone else doing the math on how, based on the assigned jobs for the ancestors, this must be a fairly incestuous family? Like either the brothers are marrying the sisters or they have two lines of cousins interbreeding over and over.
No. The family members are holding these jobs and/or marrying others who hold these jobs. This isn't ancient Egypt.
@@julietfischer5056 Hah, if you say so. I suppose "they're just genetically attracted to people in specific careersfor some reason" is one potential interpretation, but it doesn't seem to me to be the theory that best fits the evidence available ;)
