- There's been a new arrival at Henry van Statten's museum...
Introducing alien researcher Sven, Adam Mitchell's predecessor at GeoComTex. Sven will feature in the forthcoming Dalek Target novelisation.
This video was specially created as an introduction to #TheMetaltron, the worldwide tweetalong of the Doctor Who episode 'Dalek' on Thursday 30 April 2020, the 15th anniversary of its first broadcast.
Written by Andrew Ireland and starring Leo Flanagan as Sven, this video was home-produced remotely during the 'lockdown' period of the COVID-19 outbreak in April 2020.
All involved in the making of this video contributed their time and talent for free. Oh dear, I think I know what happened to Sven before Adam arrived. To quote "The last guy who touched it, burst into flames".
There's part of me that wishes he said "I can't wait to touch it" or "I can't wait to get my hands on it".
It's obviously all there for jokes, but I actually like the idea that by touching artifacts linked so inexorably with the Doctor's timeline, information just sort of bleeds through....like, by finding the wires the phrase "do I have the right" just simply appears in his mind.
"Eldrad must live" at least makes sense.
If I'm remembering the story right, anyway.

All this proves is that Four needed to wash his scarf more often.
Part of me is sad he lost his scarf. Other part of me wants to ask the Doctor why he never washed it.
She got it back in Resolution so all's well.
My mother and I knitted my Tom Baker scarf in 1982. As much as it really does need a washing (almost 38 years later), I'm afraid of ruining it...all 12' plus of colorful scarf.
The Fourth Doctor was, in fact, the biggest source of panspermia across all of space and time.

I agree. The Sarah Jane one almost made me cry, then I see this one in my recommended and it makes me laugh. Such a roller-coaster with these things innit? Lol
Damn, now I wish we got Sven instead of Adam. References to The Ark in Space, Genesis of the Daleks, The Hand of Fear, Meglos, The Face of Evil (The story where the Jellybabies were most used). I'm missing something.

Sven probably would have been more sensible than Adam, I doubt he'd have wanted a hole in his head!

This video should totally be included on the next Fourth Doctor season set considering it features his scarf and a bunch of references to his era.
The 4th Doctor always had loads of stuff in his pockets, imagine what would be in that coat of his.🤓

You don't wash away evidence, especially temporal archaeologic evidence. But, how did they acquire the scarf in the first place???

@@marauder08901 Good point. I'm sadly not as up on the Classic series as I am on the Revived. I know the Classic series in broad strokes but details can be a different story. I did remember the Doctor changed his costume a bit towards the end of his run
@@bransrubar It was a unilateral decision by the new executive producer, and remains unpopular with fans of the original series to this date.If I remember, he's the guy who ultimately ran the show into the ground, leading to its cancellation.
But your question raises a good in-universe explanation for the change. The Doctor never washed it,and finally got rid of it because of the smell.

@@sarahtaylor5356 the Ark in Space, Tom's second story, and one of my favourites 😃. It features a giant insect called the Wirrn, and in its grub form it's basically a lump of bubble wrap 😄

I wish they had referenced the scarf in the credits. My mother has been making similar coverings since 1980. I would like to know if it was crafted especially for the video.
The one most amazing thing about this is that Tom Baker didn't catch that scarf on something over seven years and break his neck a couple of times.
He did actually trip on it during the Sontaran Experiment. Apart from that...
We see him get his scarf caught on the TARDIS door when he's going in

Conceived during lockdown the first thought was what props did I have that I could use? That led to the scarf, and the idea that relics of adventures got caught in the wool, collected by the museum that hunts alien artefacts. Plus like the idea of bridging the classic series with the new series!

The repetition of "Eldrad must live" makes me wonder if they're teasing a possible return..
Maybe if given the chance, that bit of Eldrad would’ve regenerated (maybe into a hand) and had Sven doing its bidding. Presumably it’s under concrete now.

I was thinking of Eldrad himself, though. it's been 30-plus years, but didn't "Hand of Fear" end with Eldrad alive but trapped alone in the ruins of his world? We've learned that the Ood live near the Sensorites, we've met an evolutionary relative of the Nimon, and the new show even started out with a fresh return of Autons and the Nestle consciousness.
The new headwriter isn't as in to fan service as Moffat was, and thank goodness, but the return of classic villains like Omega, Eldrad and even the Toymaker is probably never entirely off the table.

Well, Sven is a Swedish name, used in Norway and sometimes in Germany too. So I would assume the character is Scandinavian.

It's a sound-alike of that era by the composer Blair Mowat.

The Doctor destroyed his scarf after he regenerated into his Fifth incarnation. Thereby this video makes no sense from the continuity point.
this is the 4th doctors 1st scarf, near the end of the 4th doctors run his outfit was switched to a dark red color plus the scarf so the scarf that was destroyed was not the same scarf at the start of the 4th doctors run.

Obviously it's funny and the references are cringe in the best way (mega loss 🤦) and I like it as a little joke like the strax video, but it's tonally so jarring as a prequel to Dalek.
Honestly, this is my least favourite lockdown story. It just felt too contrived. The Fourth Doctor changed his scarf multiple times, and having bits from various aliens in it is just silly. Not to mention how low budget this was.
Low budget? That's interesting. I wonder who you think is paying for these? People are making new content for free, at zero budget, to support the tweetalongs which is all in a great, great cause. You don't have to like the film, that's totally your choice, but don't criticise the budget - blimey!

This? It's just a random guy who opens a puffa envelope with some shoddy print-off stickers on the front.
The props look lazy. On eBay, you can buy all sorts of interesting containers that would make a for more convincing prop.
plus, to get really nitpicky, he didnt have that scarf for his last year, and he also wouldnt have had a bit of Meglos....
