I can imagine Steve in the corner of a bar; glassing
Lmao
You think they allow him to perch up with a blind and camo in his local bar?
"today we're glassing for a cougar, no luck so far over the last few days"
Don't tell the Mrs. that! 🤣
I can See Callaghan at a Biden rally
"I would never marry a deer you know". This is one of the best catch phrases in this show. That, and Cal's "Smell us now lady".
cal is the best!
‘Poke for days’ is one he said after they haul in a giant tuna in Hawaï. Legend
But I do like 'em
I don't even hunt but I find myself watching everything this guy puts out. Steve is a legend and gotta love his perspective and morals on life/hunting.
His books may bring you to tears like a couple of have to me. Watch Tim Wells for more a honest approach to outdoor pursuits.
Totally relatable comment.
I use to watch Tim Wells. I was impressed by the amazing shots he could make. Then a friend pointed out that they only show the good shots. Imagine the wounded animals through the years that they didn't show. Kind of changed my perspective on him@@InTheYear
OCal with a hat on is 26 years old.
OCal without a hat on is 45
Buddy really needs to just shave his head.
If he shaved his mustache with a hat on he'd be 14 years old
My man needs to shave his head and grow a goatee
"Whats the plan for tomorrow?"
"Try n shoot another deer with a tongue"
🤣🤣🤣
I like that phrase
Callaghan is true woodsman. Any time he speaks I am all ears and trying to soak in everything I can.
His story about a feller named Grover really shows the author inside of him, always looking for interesting parts in a story
how cal is telling the story of how he shot the buck and how its sync with him saying "bang!" and the footage of him shooting it. insane editing. like a movie
Two of my conservation hero's right there.
"And the guy's name was Grover." ...I've been waiting for this ep pairing to drop! Two of the best episodes in MeatEater history.
I could watch Steve and Ryan hunt/talk all day long.
Man, I cant wait for some new hunts with these two together... their solo content is great but the two together are a hoot
Definitely my favourite duo.
Can’t wait huh? Dang you must be super excited
I’ve must watched this deer hunt series 10 times and still get as excited now as I did the first time.
It's about time cal embraces the bald lifestyle, he'd still rock it with that stunning moustache
4:42 Lol, that’s an “I’m smarter than you” trot if I’ve ever seen one. 😂
I'll never forget Steve describing fun... the most fun you can have is those days you suffer and work your ass off. At the time it's not fun but you look back 2 years later and say that was one of the best times I've ever had.
Best quote ever.
I love the way you guys did Cal’s side quest here, so good with the narration and highlights after the fact.
Yes! 6pm on a Friday in the UK - No better way to start the weekend than a new Meater Eat vid!
Not being negative, it’s shows like this that have sparked so much interest in hunting. Opening day in Montana and you cannot go anywhere without seeing a sea of orange. From horses, to electric bikes and all the road hunters, it’s nearly impossible to escape.
Steve and Ryan is the dynamic duo of hunting
2:54 I was like "Daaamn!" In sync with Steven when that buck popped up😂
I love the "every year I fail part". LOL. Because fail being more probable than not is the drive that pushes us to continue and Not Fail because we just love the hunt.
I could listen to these two for ever. These men are and will be legends!
Cal reminds me of my stepdad who died 11 years ago. He saved my brother from drowning in a whirlpool near Amanzimtoti. Cal has a similar way of talking and he has a similar face structure. My dad loved hunting- he taught me how to shoot and hunt. It makes me so happy to see there are people like him out there caring about both sides of the game conservation as well as hunting.
This show, Steve, and everyone he hunts with got me back into the outdoors and hunting. It’s all I ever think about - hunting and fishing.
I was reading his survival book when this got posted! Definitely recommend any of his books!
I enjoyed the book a lot. I still find myself going back to read parts of it.
Same for his cook books!
His big/small game books are TREMENDOUS!
Now I just bought a bunch of books that don't pertain to my life much... yet.
American Buffalo was Great!
Ryan is just suck a great hunting buddy, what a shooter, definitely the man that loves what he does and does it with such calmness and accuracy. Way to go guys, great time
I could listen to these two talk all day. Cal can sure tell a captivating buck hunting story.
I love you guys. My wife said “He’s such a great story teller.” of Steve.
She's on point, that wife of yours. His are always my favorite articles in Outside Magazine. Sad to see he started 3yrs too late to be featured in "The Best of Outside: The first 20 years." Guessing they won't print "The Best of Second 20 Years" because it would be subtitled "The Rinella Chronicles." Maybe a "Best of All Time" featuring Rinella, Junger, Frazier, Cahill & Krakauer??? Ah, one can hope!
Found myself watching Rinella for some time now, since I decided to become a hunter and actually go to college for Forestry and Hunting in my country... He reminds me of my late Grandfather. Wise, calm and cool, funny and always full of great comments. I find some comfort in watching him. We need more of this series.
Thanks for kicking off the weekend with this hunt!
Really enjoyed this guy's...love watching cal , you can tell he's passionate about hunting...I can relate..thx
You guys always have a great time together. Your areas are so cool that you guys tend to hunt in. Even, public lands are an adventure. Congratulations Ryan on a great mule deer. Better luck with a nice bear before your trip is over. Steve, I hope that you kill a really big mature buck. I will be waiting on your next video. Deer tongue is something that I have never tried. I have learned never to say never.
Nothing gets my heart ❤️ pumping ,more than big Mule deer bucks 190” + or better ! Been doing it for 42 yrs ,and I don’t plan on ever quitting 👍
I’m late to this channel and all its content but I’ve made it this far, and I can sure tell Cal has made his ancestors proud.
Grover. I had a horse called Grover, a 15'3" hand Roan, I took from Narromine to the Innaminka gymkhana rodeo when I was 15. I almost rode time in the bullock ride. The best of times.
You guys captured this hunt perfectly. Thanks for sharing!
These two episodes are the best of the show...I’ve been waiting months for them to come out
Ryan Callaghan is the man.. I can see why Steve would pass on all but the very best buck on the mountain just to keep the hunt going and spend more time with him.
This has and always will be my favorite meateater episode
Truly the only and the best hunting video content there is! Thank you for making it easier for us, less articulate people, to get across what hunting actually means! Wonderful
(6:03) holy moly Cal's hairline dropped to his stellar mustache. Nice hunt, I never inform anyone I feed tounge to until they finish it. They always like it until they find out what it is.
I looked for this video months back to rewatch it during a workout. Thanks for bringing back 2016 season 6 videos. Put them all on here. 🤘
Kudos to the editor! I was wondering why we don’t get to see Ryan’s bear pursuit while it was happening. Waiting to show the footage during Ryan’s narration was brilliant story telling from the editing room!
This is my favorite duo! Grizzlies or mule deer love watching them do their thing
“She’s a beauty, but not the one for me.” 😂😭 love it
Been waiting for this one. Another Classic 👍🏽
This is getting me even more excited for my deer hunt in central Idaho this fall!!
Good luck! Get some tongue!
Good luck buddy be safe!
It's getting me fired up for archery season
Thanks, guys!
Same! I finally drew a tag I've been trying to get for a couple years now! Super stoked!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE DEER SEASON! 🦌AS WELL AS THESE EPISODES!
I love how Brian‘s eyes light up when steve says I’ll just stay here yeah I’m going😂😂😂😂
These two guys just have a great way to tell a story, they are humble hunters that want to learn everything about animal and the environment.
The photography is amazing, the thing I love I escape with them on the journey, it's not Monday or Sunday, which I unfortunately live to.
I've never held a gun before, I've never killed an animal, I go to the supermarket where its wrapped in plastic at a 'special price'. Sad.
This series has stopped me supermarket meat shopping, I started going to a local butcher, and built up the courage to ask questions and have a conversation about the meat. It's been a refreshing positive change.
These two guys are the best! 🙏
this show is how I relax in this crazy world. Thanks guys
As a guy who spent a life time thriving on the spirit of brotherhood, Team, camaraderie, esprit de corps, etc:, I know good dudes when I see them. Hanging out with these two for just a couple of days would be extremely rewarding.
I haven’t hunted YET, but oh man. Ryan’s buck I can tell is a very beautiful buck. Holy smokes. Can’t wait for the day I get to have my own hunt! This just fuels the fire for my first
"I'm goin!" He couldn't wait!
All time favorite episode of MeatEater.
Cal love when yr with Steven, u two are really something..✌ Stay Wild & Safe my friends.
Cool to see such open and beautiful countryside.
I hunt in Bush where you cant see more than 100 feet. So many deer that at night they come into your campsite and during the day they come watch the kids as they collect firewood and play. Shortest walk to catch an animal from camp was 15 feet.
Totally different worlds
Watching you and Ryan hunt is my favorite
Callahan is the shit. One day I hope to meet him and hire him for a hunting adventure. He is so calm and collected.....seems like an amazingly centered man. A man that I would like to know.
That’s funny!!!!!! Steve at the end of the bar
I‘m not an American I’m a German. We got a totally different hunting system here. But the thoughts are the same and I love this type of connection in mindset of hunters all around the world.
2:52 just cracks me up every time.
My favorite duo 🙌🏽
Pls don’t stop making this show you are the best
One of my favorite episodes
Hooked in to the show, this is one of their finest episode.
I used to have such a hunting area in Maine that was magic as this place!
I love the fact you guys tried the tongue, we do that with elk tongue and they are easily my favorite part of the animal.
Been waiting for these episodes to be posted. This is awesome
Love going on these virtual adventures. I live in idaho but don’t have access like this.
Braised tongue is an absolute delight. Tried beef tongue on a cruise and it was love at first bite.
Cal is an amazing story teller
All the shots taken on MeatEater are so clean. Drops them straight down. Some hunting videos on UA-cam, I can see the animal taking weird hits from weird angles suffering bad.
I wonder if those guys glassing that Steve spotted saw this episode and were like ,”yo that’s us!!”
I wonder if they saw him and were like, "wait is that Steven Rinella?"
Gosto muito de ver seus vídeos Steve, você é um craque! Abraço Brasileiro.
I like being out in nature day or night because the world is perfect and beautiful
Well Done Steve keep up the good work!
I've never hunted, but have always wanted to. I watch all of the Meat Eater videos as soon as they come out. This one has only made my desire to learn to hunt stronger.
I agree! I'm going on my 1st small game hunt this November! Wish I would have learned at an earlier age instead of my early 30's
@@justine42050 I’m 22. I’ve been wanting to start but it’s challenging without any personal guidance
@@cusefan5510 i agree, my dad knows a small amount, but my father in-law has helped me quite a bit, I'm hoping for a Turkey hunt next spring, I'm in Texas so in game stuff is pretty limited from what I can tell
@@justine42050 Texas is weird with hunting. It’s almost all privately owned so getting access must be tough. Yeah I don’t have anyone in my family that hunts or is interested in it so tough to get started. I just shoot for now haha
@@cusefan5510 yea there's a few public hunter spots but it's all smaller public, nothing like CO for instance
cant wait for another
Love these videos! Keep them coming
What I find ironic is that as I attained a high skill level with hunting, and the success that goes with that, the less hunting success matters . Same with fishing. I’m just happy to be in a good place, that’s success!
Guys. Tanks for this vids no kidding.
Please keep up the videos! I love them!
The way steves teeth shines at 5:41 has me mesmerized
Congratulations Cal it's not the wrapping that counts it's the content .
10:07 -Me when my parent's sat me down for the talk
Steve, I couldn’t agree more; “if you’re gna shoot the biggest buck to come out of a state that has such huge bucks like Idaho, you may as well do it with a name like Grover!!!” I couldn’t have said it ANY better myself my dude!!!
Absolutely love these videos
A week from now. We fist fight. 😂😂. I love watching this man.
Steve is on one with the humor in this episode lmao "So, what's the plan for tomorrow?" "Shoot another deer with a tongue. Get some more tongue." xD
You are a strange dude Steve, one of a kind, to be sure.
I've been hunting Mule deer in Idaho for over 35 years. Big buck every year. I've never worn all that gear though, even when i elk or bear hunt.
1 hat with a slick beanie under, 1 scoped rifle with sling, an LBV with 2x US issue ammo pouches in nylon w/black clips to hold some specialty food, a few extra rounds, and survival essentials, 1qt US issue canteen in the old style vietnam or Korean era canvas issue to protect it. A small FAK on the back of the belt, a rediculous untility knife on belt, another for field dressing on shoulder LBV strap pocket, a fanny pack I can jam my beanie or gloves into when it warms up, 10' of 1/2" nylon rope on the LBV rear top. A bino chest harness attached to the LBV and whatever pistol i'm carrying at the time+ 2 mags.on the belt. And even all that is an overgear for me. Magic numbers 39 & 43. Ryan knows where that is. + my fav boots ofc.
I had never ate tongue till I had a boss from Mexico and he made cow tongue tacos its an amazing meat when prepared properly
Always Fun to Watch!!!! MEAT EATER!!!!!!! FTW
Man when he said, "when you touch the trigger the hunt's done". I felt a little sad inside. Although now its almost time for GA archery season and ive got that excitement inside me again. Ive got good spots this year but I hope i let a few small ones walk first.
Man seeing those bulls fighting gets me excited for my landowner Oregon bull tags.
"Its good if you do it with the name grover" That was a good laugh
Cha chas and icecream boys......lotsa icecream.....
