    I really don't know why veneer was invented! To me, it's cheap looking and ugly! I worked and refinished so many pieces of furniture and lifted veneer off gorgeous wood that it's unbelievable! Great job by the way! 😊❤

      Thanks! Some veneers are really cheap but some are shaved pieces of very expensive woods that make it affordable but still beautiful. I don’t understand why there was a trend to cover up beautiful woods but not sure that happens anymore.

    You might find that using plastic sheeting over your towel in the beginning cuts down the number of trips needed to add moisture to the towel.

      Thanks good tip! I think I only had to spray it once but I could be wrong, it's been a few weeks! 😊

    Why would someone veneer over that wood! 😮

      There are many reasons for adding veneer. There is a misconception that veneer is cheap wood. In more cases than not in my experience the veneer is a very nice wood. Veneer is used to get a beautiful finish with a minimal cost because it’s shaved in thin slices from the tree instead of cut in heavy pieces.

    I just leave the wet towel on over night and the veneer will peal off by hand the next day

      That's crazy! The moisture from the wet towels and the iron create steam to loosen the glue, maybe you have the best glue even created! Sorry it didn't work for you!

      This process barely budged the veneer on my coffee table. Gave up and filled in areas with wood filler!!

    The damage wasn’t so bad. Why not repair the veneer, rather than remove?

      @@furniturerecreated Update: Used this technique to remove veneer from an old dresser I found on the curb. Very nice dresser, solid wood underneath.
      Note for future people:
      1) Keep the putty knife at a shallow angle to prevent marking
      2) If possible start peeling the corner with your fingers to reduce denting the corner
      3) As mentioned in the video, if it is excessively difficult to remove veneer, let it soak longer

    I thought they put veneer bec the wood under in not good quality isn't it?

    • @furniturerecreated
      @furniturerecreated  Місяць тому

      That is not necessarily true although the veneer is usually nice wood it doesn’t always mean the wood underneath is bad.

      Sure! You may have to strip the paint first but that’s not difficult.

    Ive got one I jus tried this on last week with not much luck. I might give it another try and leave the towel on longer this time. I do know the smell of the melting glue was ruff. Ick. Lol.

      It’s a multi tool scraper you can find in the paint section of a hardware store.

    Can you use do this over paint or does it need to be the bare veneer?

    • @furniturerecreated
      @furniturerecreated  2 роки тому

      Well..I've never tried it over paint. I think it probably would be best to get rid of the paint first? BUT it is certainly worth a try! Don't be afraid to try, it can't really hurt to try but make sure you don't use a towel you care about and be sure to wear a mask, you never know what's in that paint! Personally I would just sand or strip the paint off first but who knows? Let me know if you try it! 😊

    Nice job, but still am not understanding why you need the gloves. Never saw any reason for using them whatsoever.

    • @furniturerecreated
      @furniturerecreated  10 місяців тому

      Splinters is the biggest reason I use gloves, but the constant moisture, glue and heat can also be hard on your skin. It certainly doesn’t hurt anything. Thanks for watching.

    I have an old mobile home. One of the door trim (lamented wood) has peeled. What product can I use to rub on to peel off laminate without ruing wood trim underneath? Thank you

    • @furniturerecreated
      @furniturerecreated  Рік тому

      I’m not sure but you might try heat (hairdryer?). I don’t think I’d use a heat gun however especially in a small space. I’m assuming it’s peeling? You could cut off the part that’s hanging and sand carefully the edge but hard to say without actually seeing the trim. I hope you can figure something out. 😊

    Is the same process involved for the drawers?

    • @furniturerecreated
      @furniturerecreated  Рік тому

      Yep, the steam loosens the glue that was used to attach the veneer to the material underneath.
