Just some thoughts. I do hair mineral balancing. I use a hair sample that tests for your mineral balance and then determine a program for you. Yes high copper can definitely be a problem for people with depression and anxiety. I wanted to keep this video simple but I may discuss that in future videos. Hair mineral analysis can be complicated to interpret and not something a consumer should use without a practitioner to interpret. Thanks for your input
Excess zinc is not stored in the body, and the body doesn't have long-term stores. But the brain, bone, muscles etc do contain zinc, so bloods don't just reflect one specific day's level. Blood testing isn't a perfect measure for zinc but it's the best we've got

Hi Dr Janelle, Thanks so much for the great information. I just wanted to query whether taking zinc supplements is ok for breastfeeding Mums? The NOW foods supplement says not to, what do you think? Thank you.
The upper tolerable limit for zinc during breastfeeding is 40mg, but I'd suggest you test your zinc levels first before taking. Probably best to take 20mg twice a day.
Hi, I’m new to your channel. I am currently taking iron pills. 65mg Iron pills. I take it every night around 8 pm. If I take it zinc what time of the day should I take the zinc. Should I take it in the morning? Would it still react with the iron pills? And would zinc 25 mg stop copper production?
Take iron and zinc at separate times of the day. I normally recommend zinc with good at breakfast. 25mg of zinc should not affect copper levels. But if you are on zinc long-term it is prudent to check the copper levels every year.
Hi Dr Janelle, I work at a health store and if customers tell me they are suffering with anxiety or depression I recommend they see you! We have a lot of different forms of Zinc for sale, is there a form that you especially recommend?
Alot of people with low zinc will have high copper, so copper can make some people feel worse. If you want to take copper, I would recommend you do blood testing for copper (and zinc) first.

Hi Janelle and everybody I've tried few times zinc supplements. Each times after about 1 week, my state becomes worst (with 22mg zinc picolinat and 15mg zinc gluconat)... I need help because I don’t understand... Thx
Firstly do testing to ensure you have a zinc deficiency to begin with. It's possible that you are detoxing high copper when starting zinc. Just begin with a small amount of zinc for a week and see if you tolerate that. Increase if you do tolerate it. Stop it if you don't.
Thank for return... After many zinc tries, I am going to follow your advice and stop my zinc supplementation. Now I am going to try bisglycinate magnesium. Thx
Hello dear, for the past 6 months my emotion became very unstable, I was easily upset (anxiety or depression), and my hair started to lose. I have tried taking the Zinc supplementary for two months and it helps with my hair loss( loss a little less) and I feel much better when taking it. Can these be considered as Zinc deficiency? because I have stopped using it for 2 months and the hair started to insanely fall once again and I'm easily suffered from emotional instability.I'm thinking of taking the supplementary once again, but i afraid it would leave a last long effect on my health. So is it possible for the supplementary to cause me any harm if i take it in a moderate dose (I'm not on any medication).
@@DrJanelleSinclair i have put off some weight for no reason, and my hair started to shed out one by one to the extent that the scalp can easily be seen. Can blood testing reveal whether or not I'm lacking it? because i find it really difficult to cope with the loss
I haven't come across any evidence for that, however I have heard that some psychiatrists say that zinc helps reduce the side effects of antidepressants for some people.

Hi Dr. Janelle, Do you recommend using Zinc or is it best only on it's very own? I take in in a combined supplement with magnesium an calcium. Thank you so much for this amazing information. Just subscribed 🙂
Taking zinc alongside other nutrients is absolutely fine and very normal. You'll just have to check the elemental zinc dosage in the supplement. Most supplements that include zinc have only 15mg per dose, unless it is a specialty product. It's a high probability that the zinc/magnesium/calcium product you have only has a small amount of zinc in it. Refer to the video for recommended zinc dosages.
can too much zinc cause copper deficiency? i hope you can do a video about copper? i like your videos and how you explaining it its very easy to understand :) im from sweden and my english is mayby not the best?
Dr. Sinclair, I live in NJ one of the few states where it’s illegal to request a blood test with out a doctors prescription. I went to a hematologist and got bloodwork done but I don’t know if the test will cover zinc and a lot of minerals. Do you have any suggestions on what I should do other than trying to find the right doctor to beg for a referral for a test in a certain mineral or vitamin deficiency?🙁
I have been wondering if i am low on zinc....i took it one afternoon and the next day my anxiety was better during the day but then got horrible toward the evening...does this mean i should try it again taking it regularly? I am 25 years old 200lbs 6'2 and took 40mg in tablet form
You can't take it once and expect the anxiety to go away. You will need to take it regularly to build up the zinc in your body. Saying that some people experience benefits within a week. But you do have to take it consistently. 😊
Yes zinc does help in men's fertility. This video is on zinc in mental health so I didn't mention all it's health benefits. But it is an important mineral!
Hi doctor, and thanks for the great video. I have a question. In my search for some natural supplements for anxiety and depression, I came across something called Lithium Orotate. My question is that, is it safe to take it while on SSRI? I'm currently taking Faverine 200 mg. I also read that Lithium might cause hypothyroidism, does this mean all Lithium supplements do cause this including Lithium orotate or is it only restricted to the other Lithium that is used as a prescription drug? Thanks again for the great content.
Not normally, but start low on zinc and increase slowly. If you take zinc with vitamin B6 in it, for a small proportion of people the B6 can increase anxiety.

Great vid I've been taking 50mg of zinc picolinate 4 2 years but my levels not going up what's the reason if I take copper will it help 2 raise zinc levels in 2017 levels were 7.9 umol/l in 2018 it went up 2 9.9 umol/l it's taking ages still with symptoms is it cos of taking the wrong zinc foam ?
Hi Omraz. I suggest that you strengthen your stomach acid levels to help you absorb the zinc better. Also pyroluria is another reason for not being able to build up zinc levels. Zinc picolinate is a great form of zinc. It is good to monitor copper levels if you are on zinc long-term. Rather than supplementing it I prefer to recommend copper testing once a year to ensure that they aren't low (and only taking copper if you need it). A lot of people that have zinc deficiency, actually have high copper, so copper supplementation or high copper foods can make them feel worse.
The dose you are on may be a little low for anxiety. However I always recommend taking zinc based on blood testing or at least zinc taste testing. Scientific studies for the treatment of depression often use between 25-50mg per day. There are currently no studies with zinc for depression to my knowledge.
I have multiple Chronic conditions such as Hypothyroidism, sinusitis and oral pain and no taste or smell and Anxiety is disabling me. I can feel strange like a cold panic sensation and it affects my digestion upset and is so overwhelming I can't think.
I think you are wrong on this one. Zinc should never be supplemented. It can cause copper to dump if you take to much. You should only use food for zinc. oysters, pumpkin seeds etc. Also nausea from zinc is a sign of b6 deficiency
@@TroyStewart17 Thanks for the reply! 😊 I've been taking 50mg per day for a couple weeks now. I have been much more energetic, with improved mood, but I've also added other things, so could be the combo. I've found great success from Dr. Carolyn Dean's products. I've taken her liquid mag for a couple years, on and off. I do think it's superior to other types of mag. I started taking her RNA ReBob at the same time as the zinc (a couple weeks ago) and I'm wondering if THAT is the reason for my brain and body boost. I've been doing research on the main ingredient (barley extract phosphorous) and this is something that's been used for hundreds of years to clear muck from ponds and waterways. Makes sense, then, that it would clear the muck from us, as our bodies are very much like aquariums. Just a thought. It's very expensive, though, so I'm researching how to make it myself. It looks like it's lactobacillus-fermented barley, but I don't know if it's the straw or the grain. I'm on an adventure. 😊 I hope you find your answer. 🌸

Just some thoughts. I do hair mineral balancing. I use a hair sample that tests for your mineral balance and then determine a program for you. That said quite often when you have low zinc you may have high copper also women who have high copper are at risk for cysts and cancer. Just some information
Yes high copper can definitely be a problem for people with depression and anxiety. I wanted to keep this video simple but I may discuss that in future videos. zinc is not stored in the body so how can a deficiency test show anything beyond levels on that specific day?

Zinc😂😂😂😂
Hi, I’m new to your channel. I am currently taking iron pills. 65mg Iron pills. I take it every night around 8 pm. If I take it zinc what time of the day should I take the zinc. Should I take it in the morning? Would it still react with the iron pills? And would zinc 25 mg stop copper production?
Take iron and zinc at separate times of the day. I normally recommend zinc with good at breakfast. 25mg of zinc should not affect copper levels. But if you are on zinc long-term it is prudent to check the copper levels every year.

Each times after about 1 week, my state becomes worst (with 22mg zinc picolinat and 15mg zinc gluconat)...

I haven't come across any evidence for that, however I have heard that some psychiatrists say that zinc helps reduce the side effects of antidepressants for some people.

What effects zinc did it help?
Hi Dr. Janelle,
Do you recommend using Zinc or is it best only on it's very own? I take in in a combined supplement with magnesium an calcium.
Thank you so much for this amazing information. Just subscribed 🙂
Taking zinc alongside other nutrients is absolutely fine and very normal. You'll just have to check the elemental zinc dosage in the supplement. Most supplements that include zinc have only 15mg per dose, unless it is a specialty product. It's a high probability that the zinc/magnesium/calcium product you have only has a small amount of zinc in it. Refer to the video for recommended zinc dosages.

Do a zinc taste test.
How effects now? Did it help you?
Brilliant thankyou x

Hi doctor, and thanks for the great video.
I have a question. In my search for some natural supplements for anxiety and depression, I came across something called Lithium Orotate. My question is that, is it safe to take it while on SSRI? I'm currently taking Faverine 200 mg. I also read that Lithium might cause hypothyroidism, does this mean all Lithium supplements do cause this including Lithium orotate or is it only restricted to the other Lithium that is used as a prescription drug?
Thanks again for the great content.
talk to your doctor to be sure.
Add some Magnesium in there too and you will be feeling even better
When you first take it can it trigger your depression or anxiety?

I am taking zinc picolinate 22 mg per day.. I have a bad anxiety .. how much should I take pls?
The dose you are on may be a little low for anxiety. However I always recommend taking zinc based on blood testing or at least zinc taste testing. Scientific studies for the treatment of depression often use between 25-50mg per day. There are currently no studies with zinc for depression to my knowledge.
I have multiple Chronic conditions such as Hypothyroidism, sinusitis and oral pain and no taste or smell and Anxiety is disabling me. I can feel strange like a cold panic sensation and it affects my digestion upset and is so overwhelming I can't think.
No taste or smell can be a symptom of zinc deficiency.
I think you are wrong on this one. Zinc should never be supplemented. It can cause copper to dump if you take to much. You should only use food for zinc. oysters, pumpkin seeds etc. Also nausea from zinc is a sign of b6 deficiency
Goona start trying zinc today.
Awesome. Let me know how you go with it.

@@enlightenedhummingbird5101 seemed to help a little... but not a cure for me. I'm still looking.
